Delicious authentic Vietnamese cuisine in a cozy, family owned and operated restaurant in Chinatown. Nothing fancy or pretentious. Place is bright and clean with polite service from the family.

I think this is Ottawa's SECOND best Pho. But it's truly a great little Somerset gem. Caesar is an awesome server. Super friendly and loves to talk. His Mom (or aunt or grandma) is typical Viet old lady - not friendly...super curt and a bit rude. But to the food: Pho is delicious. Broth is fragrant and flavourful. Only comes in one size - take it or leave it. Grilled meats with egg over rice is delightful. And the Banh Mi are amazing. To go and only $3. Who the fuck would go to Subway when you can get 3 of these for the same price? Small place so don't expect to always find a seat.

Highly recommended!! Co Cham is a hidden gem located in Ottawa's Chinatown! Got there around noon over the Victoria Day long weekend and the place filled up pretty quickly. We ordered 3 dishes and shared them among 4 people: 1. Grilled Pork+ Shredded Pork + Fried Egg + Rice 2. Spring Rolls + Vermicelli 3. Rare Beef Pho The portion was huge and the food was so delicious! My favourite dish was the Spring Rolls + Vermicelli. The spring rolls were deep fried and were really crispy. The fish sauce was lacking a bit of flavor though so I kept asking for more to go with the vermicelli. We left the restaurant with full bellies! :)

Assorted meat banh mi $3 (buy 5 get 1 free).

Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) at Co Cham are great. They are $3 each and if you buy 5 you get 1 free. The banh mi are for takeout only, you can't eat in if you're just having banh mi. There aren't many places that sell banh mi in Ottawa. Co Cham is the best so far. I will go back sometime to try their other food.

Grilled chicken, beef and pork over rice for under $10. Oh yeah!

Co Cham represents what I love in inexpensive Vietnamese food. Rice, noodles, basically anything you want to order off the menu that is delicious! It's all that folks and then some! I've dined here on five different occasions now and each time I've left highly satisfied and with a full tummy. The bun vermicelli's are outstanding! The phõ soups are equally as delicious. The spring rolls fresh and fried and large and in charge. We ate here just recently and the matriarch of the family was very nice to my family wishing us happy new year on many occasions. It's a family owned and operated restaurant. Outstanding. Come check it out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

    Number 28!

This is a super cute family owned restaurant. A little small and cozy for size but nice interior for a Vietnamese restaurant. Very clean and tidy. The dishes are all under 10$ which is nice on the wallet. I go here for the rice dishes!! Number 26: grilled beef and chicken on rice is my absolute fav. It's 9$ and is such a comforting dish. The chicken is always cooked to perfection - thinly sliced but still juicy -- and the beef is just as good! Both are packed with flavor. This dish is ever so simple but is just so good every time. Bun Bo Hue: special noodle bowl form the Hue province. I really like the broth in this noodle soup -- its just slightly spicy in a beef broth - I do however prefer it with rice noodles so I do always swap out the noodles that it does come with (typically thicker and more cylinder shaped noodles instead of the flatter thinner rice noodle) Also ordered a vietnamese iced coffee: bold, smooth and strong with the slight sweetness of condense milk. You should definitely try vietnamese coffee if you haven't yet! Sandwiches : Your average vietnamese sub - nothing too special. I've yet to try the vermicelli dishes or pho here.

    Pho with rare beef!

I found the pho here just ok. It lacked depth of flavours that other places have, and was a bit too salty. Their sandwiches are pretty average, I wish they could improve on the flavour to be more similar to ones in Toronto. Ottawa's pho game is strong, but not so much our Vietnamese sandwiches. Service is very friendly and quite quick though!

    Delicious appetizers!

The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. All the nearby spots are reserved for the apartment dwellers in the building. Ordered a Huevo Ranchero ($16) - which came with scrambled eggs two corn tortillas with salsa, cheese, sour cream and a side order of fries. The eggs could have used some seasoning even with salsa it needed something extra A Vegan Breakfast Bowl ($14) - a mixture of tofu, spinach, mushrooms and tomato chutney - which somehow tasted to all 4 of us like onion chutney. The vegetables done good, but tofu again had just no flavour. Tofu had a spice rub all over, but it tasted like plain tofu. The Bacun strips were rice paper rolls with some attempted flavours but none came through. And two Vegan Bennies ($16) - a super grainy slice of bread topped with the same tofu, green onions, Bacun and some red pepper strips (NOT Coulis as described in the menu). If some person was having a tofu dish for the first time I think they would describe tofu as no flavour at all. We vegans know that you can do amazing things with Tofu. The home fries in the above dishes was the best - now that we could give 5 out 5. All of us had to go and get Sriracha and Ketchup from the counter to rescue the dishes. Coffee was too weak as well. When you go in and order on the counter and you get food delivered to your table. Should the restaurant still offer to tip on the machine BEFORE even we were served? The order did take a long time, the table not clean when we sat, no condiments on the table and coffee refills slow. An extra star for giving tons of vegan options
