My husband and I came here for some takeout and it was great! Their menu is very simple, sandwich, salad or rice bowl. Chicken, beef or tofu. Toppings include lettuce (iceberg), red cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. Sauces are special sauce or spicy sauce (or both). Whatever your choice, it's $12.50. I got the Chicken Rice Bowl with all the toppings except for onions. Both sauces, but light on the sauce. My husband got the beef Donair sandwich with all the toppings and both sauces. My rice bowl was delicious! I loved that the chicken was crispy. Ingredients were fresh. And they didn't overdo it with the sauce. It was perfect. The tomatoes are slices as are the cucumbers. They are the same in the bowl as in the sandwich. I think in the bowl, diced would be better, but that's just a suggestion. It was still really good. The chicken was lean real chicken breast. It was well seasoned and the sauces were flavourful. The spicy sauce is not that spicy. The special sauce is creamy. I had a bite of my husband's sandwich and I enjoyed it too. The Donair meat was great. Didn't taste like cardboard, which is my common complaint with Donair. They went easy on the sauce for his sandwich too, which I liked, hehe. And they didn't give him onions either, haha. That made the sharing of his sandwich more enjoyable for me, so I'm not complaining, and it actually didn't bother him, even though he loves onions, lol. So I think they switch up their bread provider often. I advised the staff I couldn't eat sesame seeds and he advised me the bowl did not contain sesame seeds and their bread sometimes does, but not currently. Score for me, hubby had no excuse not to share his sandwich with me then, lol (don't worry, I shared my bowl with him too). Staff were super nice. They sell some branded merchandise in the store. They have some patio seating in front of the store, but just 2 tables. We enjoyed our meal there and would eat food from there again. Street parking only.

    Tofu doner! SO GOOD! (takeout)

This....is...the...best...thing...that...I...have...had...in...Ottawa...in...the........LONGEST TIME! The hubby ran into Wolf Down to grab some doners. I got the tofu one, he got the other two choices. I believe it was steak and chicken. Clean & simple menu. Clean, fresh ingredients. I got my tofu doner all dressed: purple cabbage, lettuce, cucumber, onion, the white sauce and the spicy sauce. That spicy sauce was BOMB, and nothing like I have had before. I loved that it had a hint of curry in it. Delicious! The bread/bun was amazing, soft and chewy. It's made by art is in bakery. Tofu was crispy and seasoned well. It tasted a lot like greek style chicken. Get the tofu doner! Trust me!

There's merch as well as delicious food!

I'm a sucker for donairs, and apparently the Germans are too, calling it doner. Wolf Down is Ottawa's latest German doner restaurant. Tasty meat, spicy sauce and a delicious sandwich that I forgot to photograph made for a delightful lunch. My only complaint: Ottawa folks, stop being so cheap! When I asked to add a tip before I tapped my credit card, the guy at the counter had to stop and figure things out - nobody had done it before.

Went here for my lunch break for the first time. It was really delicious. I ordered the rice and chicken bowl (box?) with all the toppings and both their secret and spicy sauces. Seriously good, and big portions. I think I paid around $15 which is reasonable considering the size. Recommend!

Was craving a filling big lunch after a late night out and this place came through. Not only was the food fresh and delicious, the portions were massive. I don't eat dairy and usually miss out on tasty secure so I Love love loved that they offer vegan options.

    Beef rice bowl

Ordered home delivery and the food came in cold - probably because they didn't cook it fresh as the delivery took only 6 minutes. The beef was dry and stale. Sauce tasted like regular mayo - what's so "secret" about it? The rice was overcooked and soggy. Few of the toppings were messed up - why provide the options to choose from if you don't follow the instructions? The portion was minuscule - which I was glad about because I didn't wanted to eat it all. I never thought I would say this, but Shawarma King does better platters for half the price. Avoid.

The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. The eggs could have used some seasoning even with salsa it needed something extra A Vegan Breakfast Bowl ($14) - a mixture of tofu, spinach, mushrooms and tomato chutney - which somehow tasted to all 4 of us like onion chutney. The vegetables done good, but tofu again had just no flavour. Tofu had a spice rub all over, but it tasted like plain tofu. The Bacun strips were rice paper rolls with some attempted flavours but none came through. And two Vegan Bennies ($16) - a super grainy slice of bread topped with the same tofu, green onions, Bacun and some red pepper strips (NOT Coulis as described in the menu). If some person was having a tofu dish for the first time I think they would describe tofu as no flavour at all. We vegans know that you can do amazing things with Tofu. The home fries in the above dishes was the best - now that we could give 5 out 5. All of us had to go and get Sriracha and Ketchup from the counter to rescue the dishes. Coffee was too weak as well. When you go in and order on the counter and you get food delivered to your table. Should the restaurant still offer to tip on the machine BEFORE even we were served? The order did take a long time, the table not clean when we sat, no condiments on the table and coffee refills slow. An extra star for giving tons of vegan options

The pistachio cream was what made the sandwich. It really added that je ne sais quoi to it. I went in and ordered and got it to go while my husband walked around outside (he's intense about maximizing his steps and heart points on his fitness tracker, lol). We stuck with a small bowl of fries for the kids, which we ordered promptly, and it arrived promptly. The hubby and I also had a hard time deciding what we wanted to eat. He went with a prime rib sandwich and I went with the crudo salad. He enjoyed the sandwich, and upgraded his fries to a poutine which was good. My crudo salad was boring. I'm trying to eat healthier when dining out, but it was very, very boring, and quiet large. Enough for two to share. I actually ponded half of it off to my husband, which he tried refusing. The salad was super oily, consisting of mostly arugula, with some bocconcini, crispy chickpeas, green beans, red onion cucumber and tomato. It was missing some zing. Service was OK, I guess. I think the bartender may have been serving us, since we were the only diners indoors. She tried her best, was nice, and brought us what we needed when we asked, checked in on us once, but it was not very attentive. My water glass was never refilled, and we had to ask for other drink refills, while other water glasses sat empty. Settling the bill took a while.
