The eggs could have used some seasoning even with salsa it needed something extra A Vegan Breakfast Bowl ($14) - a mixture of tofu, spinach, mushrooms and tomato chutney - which somehow tasted to all 4 of us like onion chutney. The vegetables done good, but tofu again had just no flavour. Tofu had a spice rub all over, but it tasted like plain tofu. The Bacun strips were rice paper rolls with some attempted flavours but none came through. And two Vegan Bennies ($16) - a super grainy slice of bread topped with the same tofu, green onions, Bacun and some red pepper strips (NOT Coulis as described in the menu). If some person was having a tofu dish for the first time I think they would describe tofu as no flavour at all. We vegans know that you can do amazing things with Tofu. The home fries in the above dishes was the best - now that we could give 5 out 5. All of us had to go and get Sriracha and Ketchup from the counter to rescue the dishes. Coffee was too weak as well. When you go in and order on the counter and you get food delivered to your table. Should the restaurant still offer to tip on the machine BEFORE even we were served? The order did take a long time, the table not clean when we sat, no condiments on the table and coffee refills slow. An extra star for giving tons of vegan options

So it was on a recent Tuesday morning that I popped in and ordered the Banana Bread French Toast ("House banana bread, served with cinnamon apple compote, local maple syrup, fresh whipped cream") for takeout. The food was ready about 10 minutes later and I was back at the rental and eating five minutes after that. It's really, really good. The French toast by itself is impressively not too sweet, but the when you eat it with the syrup and the apple compote and the cream, it turns into a perfectly balanced, super delicious concoction. I also got their ice coffee and we both agreed that it was far better than most ice coffees we've ever had. What an awesome little place.

Truth be told, we initially went to a different diner that serves their entire breakfast, lunch and dinner menu all day. My husband likes getting breakfast at restaurants, I do not, so I had my heart set on a Hot Chicken Sandwich with fries, yep at 9 in the morning! Haha. I got a Western Sandwich ($7.95). I was asked what I wanted in the Western so I choose ham, peppers and cheese. I got it on brown bread. It was good, but the thing with breakfast, is unless it's Eggs Benedict, or souffle pancakes, I feel it's something I can easily make myself at home (Hollandaise sauce is difficult for me, haha). When I go to restaurants, I want something I can't easily make at home, this is why I'm not a breakfast restaurant goer (well, unless they deep-fry their home fries, because I don't deep-fry at home, lol). Anyway, my husband enjoyed his breakfast. I did notice that they cut their sausages in half lengthwise, which means more cooking surface and they get crispier, which is awesome! I had some of his home fries, they were nicely seasoned. Our server was the owner's daughter (when I asked if they were serving lunch menu items, she said she had to ask her dad). She was very pleasant and we got our food quickly. The atmosphere is old school diner-like. No frills, very utilitarian. Prices are good for these days. The most expensive thing on the menu is less than $15. I saw they had a sign that Sunday is customer appreciation day and for a limited time (not sure until when) everything on their menu is $8.95 all day. It's located in an industrial park just off Clyde. So their signage says "home of the bulgogi hoagie." I love beef bulgogi, so I went in with the intentions of getting that, but I discovered that the meat is marinaded not only in sesame oil (which I can eat), but also in sesame seeds (which I can't eat), so I could not experience their bulgogi hoagie :( and had to order something else. I settled on the fish tacos ($8) with a side garden salad (the menu said $4, but I was charged $4.25, and I wasn't going to quibble over a quarter, lol). I got 2 tacos and they were 2 large pieces of pan-fried white fish on top of iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes in a soft flour tortilla. I did appreciate that the fish wasn't oily/greasy though. So anyone who knows me knows that I look upon iceberg lettuce with great disdain. So I was really disappointed that the salad that I received was mostly iceberg lettuce (3 simultaneous sad faces!). I was trying to be healthy, but I should have just gotten the fries, haha. Service was very friendly and efficient. Decor is typical diner. The breakfast menu is varied enough to keep it interesting, and the service is good. The staff is friendly. It has been under newer ownership for about the past 2 years, and I only just found out about it recently - through the Stittsville News (boy oh boy do I miss those community newspapers! Shame on them for closing!) It's not a fancy place, with cement floors, but they have art for sale on the walls, which brightens the place up a bit. The pace is cozy and casual and seems to attract many regulars. I would like to get my little group of knitting friends to meet here at least occasionally. Shopping local really works!
