TL;DR/The Short Version: Deli serving up loaded sandwiches…read morein Hintonburg. A bit pricey, but tasty. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. (Quarantine review)…read more There was an offer for where you can buy a New Yorker combo and get one for free, which is what I opted for. The portion sizes for the combo are definitely filling. For one New Yorker trio combo, you get a sandwich, drink, and a side of your choice (fries, poutine, or onion rings). You can't really go wrong with onion rings; just as such, since the fries were disappointingly soggy and the poutine was really just fries slathered with gravy. Overall, if you need something to fill your belly with, you can't go wrong with Centrale Bergham.

We've walked by their downtown Montreal location (on Ste. Catherine West) several times and wanted to try it out but never got the chance, so we were happy to see that one opened up here in Ottawa. We were not disappointed. They serve sandwiches, wraps and burgers with an international twist. They have 14 different sauces that each pay tribute to a different country. We sampled the Algerian (slightly spicy and creamy), the Tunisian (very spicy) and the Chili Thai (sweet and spicy). When my husband asked about the American, the staff member said "nah, you don't want that, it's meant for kids it's just ketchup mixed with mayonnaise." I thought that was funny. I got the Shish wrap combo ($9.99). I got salad instead of fries, and a fountain drink. I chose the Algerian sauce. My husband got the Gyro sandwich combo ($9.99) with fries and a fountain drink. He chose the Chili Thai sauce. I loved my wrap. It was filled with lots of chicken and also lettuce and tomatoes. The chicken was tender and juicy and tasted so good with the creamy and spicy Algerian sauce. The salad was fresh and crisp. It had lettuce, cucumbers, sweet peppers and black olives. The dressing was sweet and tangy. They put too much dressing on it for my liking though, so I will ask for it on the side next time. I had a bite of my husband's Gyro and it was great. Really flavourful and also lots of meat. His fries were also great. Thin and crispy. It's fast food, so no servers. The staff though are very nice. They let you sample the sauces and answer all your questions. I also noted that staff with beards wear beard nets and all staff wear hats to cover their hair. I approve of cleanliness and staff not getting hair in my food. The food here is Halal. The restaurant is next to a Tim Horton's and there's a small parking lot in front with free parking. We will definitely be back!

The candied club was delicious - you can get it with crispy or grilled chicken and it comes with candied bacon, lettuce, tomato and red onions but you can customize it your liking. My husband got the fuhgeddaboutit which was with salami, capacollo and prosciutto. If you get the candied club, you don't have to wait in line. You can go straight to the cash since that's their best seller. It's mostly a take out place so there isn't much of a place to sit but they did have two picnic tables outside. A great Ottawa gem!

It's tucked away in an industrial part of town, but those who know know they make incredible sandwiches. Their Candied Bacon Club is their most popular sandwich. Prices have gone up over the years. It's currently $11 (as of June 2024). You can get the chicken grilled or breaded. It's real chicken breast meat and is delicious with the sweet candied bacon. My only complaint is they are too generous with the sauce, so the sandwich is a little too wet and messy. You can choose your bread. The Jalapeno Cheddar is the best, IMO. However, Italian Herb seems to be the most popular. They also have rotating special sandwiches. The Honey Tender ($11) is great. It's chicken tenders dipped in a honey hot sauce with pickles and lettuce. It's also really saucy and messy to eat, lol. You can also build your own deli sandwich for $10. You choose the bread, up to 3 meats, and a cheese. They have a list of toppings you can choose, as well as different dressings. Service is courteous and efficient. Even though there is always a long line up. The line moves fast. There are a few seats along the window to eat in but pretty much everyone just gets takeout. If you eat in, you will have a constant stream of people lining up next to you, lol. The sandwich shop is in a little plaza and there are some picnic tables near the parking lot. If you have to eat on-site, I'd recommend eating at the picnic tables or in your car ;) Lots of free parking available in the plaza parking lot. If you like sandwiches and you're able to make it out to Antares Drive on a weekday (they are closed on weekends) between 10am and 3pm (their business hours), I recommend giving this place a try. I don't live or work in the area anymore, so their limited hours make it hard for me to go there. Otherwise, I'd be there often. (128)

We were there around 3pm on a Monday and I was really disappointed that the only bread selections left were whole wheat or white :( They didn't have any cheese bread or olive bread left :( I ended up getting my sandwich on whole wheat and my husband had his on white. My whole wheat bread didn't taste all that fresh, it was a bit dry. My husband said his bread was "ok" - whatever that means, he is a man of few words, lol. I got the #2 ($6.95), which is ham, chicken, roast beef, marble cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. The default comes with mayo, but I said no mayo. There wasn't too much meat in the sandwich, and it tasted alright, but nothing special in my opinion. My husband got the #16 ($6.95), which has Calabrese Soppressata, Spicy Capicola, Prosciutto, Provolone cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Service was friendly and efficient. We went during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The lady there was wearing a mask (so were we). We were the only customers there, which was a good thing because the place is small and narrow and physical distancing would be difficult. There are tables at the front and side of the convenience store for you to sit and eat. I liked that some tables had umbrellas so you can be in the shade. Street parking only (paid parking, it was $1 for 20 minutes).
