We passed by this place during the Italian festival, and they were kind enough to fit us in as walk ins. They had a modified menu for the Italian festival. We had the ceaser salad, zucchini fries and calamari for starters and they were all very good. When it came to mains our server got things mixed up, so there was a bit of a delay but even the dishes weren't as good. The pesto cream pasta was pretty oily and to be honest couldn't taste the cream it was mainly pesto! Our server after the mix up not sure why she was upset never offered us parmesan chess we had to ask for it and we felt wasn't as nice! We had to ask another waiter to pass us some salt and pepper! Pizza was ok

My husband and I had dinner here during their "Presdelicious" Event and it was fantastic. Now "Presdelicious" is similar to "Winterlicious" and "Summerlicious" where restaurants make a special fixed-price menu with a set number of courses (the name is from the the participating restaurants all being on Preston St). At La Roma it was $38 for a 3 course meal. We each agreed to get different things, so that we could sample more items. Luckily, we each ended up getting what we would have wanted anyway. We were given complimentary bread and spiced olives to start. The bread is baked in-house and was quite crusty, but still very good. The olives still had the pits inside, and I found them really salty, although I liked the spicy kick. We got 12 and I ate 2 (my husband ate 10, lol). I started with the Arugula Salad with Spicy Shrimp. I asked for the dressing on the side, but unfortunately the salad came already dressed. It didn't look overly-dressed and I was quite hungry, so I just ate it. I got 2 large shrimp (although I gave hubby 1) and they were juicy and had a mild spicy kick. The arugula was fresh, and I liked the shaved pecorino cheese on top. The dressing was a pomegranate vinaigrette, but I mostly tasted oil, I didn't taste too much sweetness or tartness. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the salad, although it was a tad over-dressed for my liking. The hubster got the duck prosciutto, which came on a bed of arugula with asiago cheese. I had some of the duck prosciutto and while it was good, I much preferred my shrimp. For my main I got the Salmone al Cartoccio. Since I'm not familiar with Italian terms, I didn't realize that it was essentially "en papillote" (wrapped and cooked in parchment paper) until it arrived at the table. It was so delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked and it was on top of a slice of orange, which was on top of some heirloom carrots, which was on top of a bed of red quinoa. The quinoa was a little crunchy along the edges and the texture went really well with the softness of the carrots. This item should definitely make it to their regular menu! My husband got the Ucchelletti, which was veal stuffed with shrimp, capicollo, and a blend of cheeses. It came with some heirloom carrots, bell peppers, kale, and potatoes. I had a little taste and it too was delicious, but very rich and filling. Again, I was much happier with my choice. The Ucchelletti is on their regular menu. For dessert I had the Cannoli. OMG, the best cannoli I have had in my life (although admittedly I've never been to Italy). The pastry was crispy and not overly oily. The filling was thick and creamy and had little discs of chocolate in it. I tasted a citrus element to the cannoli which was different, but I liked it. It was big, which I liked too ;) My husband got the dark chocolate torte. I only had a tiny bite, but it was rich and creamy as well and full of chocolate flavour. My husband said he could smell the chocolate from the table. It was also delicious, but I'm glad I got the cannoli. Service was very friendly and attentive. Decor is very pretty and uncluttered. Washrooms are downstairs. There's a nice sizeable patio out front if you want to eat outside. There is a private parking lot at the back of the restaurant (entrance on Norman St) but it is not too large and when we arrived at 5:30pm there was only 1 spot left and it was really narrow because the adjacent cars spilled into the spot, so we just parked on the street. I think it's mostly for staff because when we walked in there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant, so at most that would have been 4 cars, but more likely 0-2 cars. So I wouldn't rely on the private parking lot for parking, especially if you're dining at more peak times. My husband and I are rarely in this neighborhood and we're glad we checked out La Roma because of "Presdelicious." I would definitely go back :)

Had a great dinner at La Roma! Service was attentive and pleasant, food and drinks were delicious and the interior decor was very nice! Started off the evening with an Aperol Spritz which was excellent. We ordered the Colosseo pizza and the braised beef ravioli. The pizza was not lacking of toppings - the Italian sausage was yummy and plentiful! Great authentic thin crust pizza! I didn't try the ravioli but my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. We ended the evening with cannolis and tiramisu. There was nothing left on our plates at the end! Perfect Italian meal. The restaurant was very clean and all tables were nicely spaced out.

Lonely table just for one. Famished after the interview and a lengthy reading and exams. #stressReliever #foody

I had an interview and training today. I skipped breakfast and the interview lasted past lunch. I decided to have a stroll down Preston Street and decided to drop by at La Roma Restaurant. I was craving for something Italian. ;) Anyhoo, the place , food and service was great although I would recommend Rideau Bakery's everything rye bread to start. I finished it off with a glass of Grand Marnier on the rocks to settle my digestion. Lol. It was a first for me. I don't usually dine out alone in a fancy resto but I'm glad i did it. :)

gnocchi and a vegan option :)

all around amazing! great food, exceptional service and friendly atmosphere :) very accommodating to my dietary requests, tons of vegetarian options. make sure to try the gnocchi (and save room for the tiramisu) definitely coming back my next trip to ottawa :)

    The special that night.

This place was great. I was there mid August on a Saturday evening with 10 other women. We had a reservation. They gave us a private room upstairs which is probably a good think cause 11 women together can get loud! We arrived a little early so we ordered drinks at the bar. I ordered a lemon drop martini. The martini was just ok...they didn't rim it with sugar. Another lady ordered a whiskey sour and also thought it was just ok. The other lady's had no complaints. We were shown upstairs and ordered a few bottles of Italian wine to go with our meal. Their wine list is quite good and reasonably priced for a nice restaurant. We all ordered starters. I had the Caprese Salad which was really good, nice and fresh ingredients. Our waiter was really good too. Our mains were all great (see pics), we were all satisfied at the end of the meal. BTW, the restaurant offers gluten free pasta but you have to ask for it.

    Anti pasto for 2.. yummy

Oddly quiet for a Friday night, but could be the weather. . Started with antipasto for two.. we were hungry. . But it was delicious! Then we had spicy pasta with sausage. It was really spicy, but excellent! Service was great too.. but it was very quiet! Definitely recommend it!

After I ate the amazing salad, which had romaine lettuce, parmesan, and croutons. The salad was also pretty good, and I ate it pretty fast. I went with my mom, so she gave me some of her mussels, which were delicious. The waiter saw that I demolished the bread, so he gave me more. Did I say the bread was good yet cause it was GOOD. Service is solid but the food doesn't come close to an Italian restaurant in Italy, or New York or San Francisco or even Boston. Calamari was good but came with cocktail sauce in stead of marinara. Odd choice. Salad was solid as was the pesto pasta. But the chicken parm was way to thick, gloppy and not that great. Looking around the restaurant, I saw other gloppy looking food. In any case, this seems like a restaurant it is better to stick with the pasta (a word also pronunced differently in Canada, lol.)

A few people had mentioned this place but there were zero reservations available until the following week. So... I called and asked if they could squeeze in a party of two. They were so incredibly accommodating! We had a table for dinner within a minute of me calling. When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly valet attendants. The hostess led us to our table, and our incredible dining experience began. We were greeted by Karsten, our waiter, who had the biggest smile I have seen in all of Ottawa. His customer service was unmatched! He offered a solution for each complication and made us feel like royalty. 1000000/5 for the customer service here! Drinks: Old Fashioned: 5/5. A great job done on a classic beverage. Giovanni's: 5/5. I love tequila and love trying a martini that allows the flavor of the tequila to shine with a hint of fruit. Sauvignon Blanc (Family Tree, Canada): 5/5. A crisp, white wine that is refreshing and was the perfect accompaniment to the carbonara. Chianti (Caposaldo, Tuscany, Italy): 5/5. A beautiful, deep, red wine that went perfect with the lamb and lasagna. I may or may not have a case of this wine on order after dinner... Food: Calamari Fritti: 4/5. I loved how crispy the calamari was, but I feel as though the batter needed a little bit more seasoning. Just a little bit more. Bruschetta: 4/5. I needed a little more flavor in this. The bread was also slightly soggy. But otherwise, the tomatoes were fresh! Lasagna: 5/5. This platter was INSANE. I'm still getting used to Canadian portion sizes. This could've fed 2-3 people. It was delicious. The lasagna was finished in the oven, so the top of it was extra crispy (literally the best). Highly recommend this dish! Spaghetti Alla Carbonara: 5/5. I have to order the carbonara if it's on the menu. This one was incredible. The flavors, the consistency, the lightness of it... everything. I was in heaven with every possible bite. One thing I loved about this dish was that it was not heavy like most carbonara's are. I enjoyed every bite! This was also a 1/2 order, which was still massive. Costolette D'Agnello (Rack of Lamb): 5/5. I rarely ever see lamb on the menu at restaurants and was so excited to try this one. IT WAS YUMMY. I got the 1/2 order of this because we were already ordering so much food. Im so glad I did. It came with potato cakes, spinach, asparagus, and the best carrots. Delicious. Not to mention, the lamb was cooked to the perfect temperature. Forget a 5/5, this dish was a 50000/5. Bravo!

Luckily I didn't come in at a crazy time. The service was quick and friendly. I started off with the sourdough bread with cultured butter. I loved that it was the right size where you don't end up full on bread. The cultured butter was a nice touch but they didn't offer just a chunk where you feel you have to use all of it. (the difference is cultured butter has more flavour and a bit tangy). For the main I decided to go the red pie road and ordered the Sweet Tony. My oh my how delicious this was. That hot honey really added some fun flavour that cut through the Fior di Latte and the basil added that freshness it needed. The pie was the right size for two people however if your party is larger perhaps order two pies! I will definitely be stopping by and trying a new pie next time I'm in Ottawa.

We were seated at a table in the inside of the restaurant, which was actually quite warm as the main doors were open, which minimized the coolness from the air conditioner. We were served by a nice middle-aged gentleman, whom provided us with menus upon arriving, giving us ample time to decide. Since we weren't too hungry, we settled on sliced bread with butter (which was $8.00), and a margarita pizza. The bread had a strange burnt taste to it however, with the butter, the burnt taste wasn't as apparent. Also, the amount of seeds on the bread's crust were overwhelming, which made us mostly taste the seeds as opposed to the bread itself. We also found the price much too high for sliced bread; many restaurants provide sliced bread for free however, this restaurant charged an exuberant amount for it. The margarita pizza looked appetizing upon viewing it for the first time however, once we had bitten into it, the cheese on the top was overwhelmingly salty. We were surprised, as margarita pizza usually doesn't have cheese that is that salty. As well, the price for this pizza was $20 +, which once again, we found much too expensive for what we were receiving. Overall, we wouldn't come back to this particular restaurant. Although the service was attentive and the atmosphere was inviting, the food wasn't very good, and it was overpriced. We certainly wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for an authentic Italian meal.

However, once we stepped into the restaurant, we knew that it would be a tad pricey. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time when we arrived therefore, we were given a round table near the window. Once we were seated, we each received a menu, and settled on our items. The restaurant itself was quite fancy, with the servers wearing formal attire, and the table setting/wall decor boasting an expensive flair. Once we had settled on our meals, we were given a basket of nicely warmed bread, with olive oil mixed with vinegar, along with peppers and olives on the side. The bread was amazing, and we were able to ask for seconds. The basket was never full, as we continuously ate what was placed inside of it. It was a great start to the meal! Once our main dishes arrived, we were surprised to see how much food was included. The chicken cutlet was quite large, with my son unable to finish it. It was also tasty, as I had tried a few bites. My daughter's meatball however had a strange spice which didn't sit well with her. As well, the dish that my mother and I had settled on had various pieces of burnt pasta, and it wasn't too appetizing. Since the prices were so high for each of the dishes, we were surprised that the taste wasn't adequate. Since we had such a positive experience with the complimentary bread, we expected the same for the main meal. However, we weren't too pleased with most of the items we had ordered. I have to give kudos to the service at this restaurant, as we were always doted on, from start to finish. We even saw the manager (or owner) come out to greet all of the guests individually. Although this restaurant was on the higher-end, the food just didn't suffice, and wasn't worth the price that we had paid.
