Wagyu beef from Japan
Emilie D.

I tried this beautiful place in little Italie. We started with the oysters, and had the Wagyu beef from Japan. This is definitely a treat. The dessert are amazing, The service was amazing, everything was great. it was nice to go out again. I took the 5 oz, I was informed that only two place in Ottawa had the Wagyu boeuf. The taste is like becon steak hard to explain. If you love the taste of butter and something rich you will love it. Great experience I will need to come again.

Pasta Trofie

Great service and delicious food. We went for a Birthday dinner on the Canada Day weekend. They greeted us warmly and seated us at a table with crisp white lines. We enjoyed warm rolls as we waited for our Mushroom Risotto, Gnocchi with Rose sauce and Pasta Trofie. We all enjoyed our meals, particularly the Pasta Trofie - a pistachio pesto with a fillip of burratta. They surprised us with a chocolate profiterole birthday treat for dessert. They exceeded our expectations.

I was looking forward to coming here and trying the carbonara but was pretty disappointed when it arrived with loads of thick bacon which isn't typically like that elsewhere for that dish. I probably wouldn't order the carbonara again but I'd try another pasta. My husband got a steak and said it wasn't the best he's had either especially for the prices we paid. The zucchini sticks and bread and butter were great. The service was one of the best parts.

Tiramisú - $8.95

Came by for a late lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised. The interior of the restaurant was pretty upscale and we were immediately brought to a table and offered to check our coats. Started off with the Fried Zucchini and Fried Calamari, both of which were very good. They were nicely fried and tasty. ...portions were too large to finish! Moved on to the Veal as the main entree and it was excellent. The veal was very tender and flavorful. The sides were both fresh and well cooked too. Ended off the meal with the tiramisu which was excellent. Not too sweet and very fresh and moist. Service was excellent throughout the meal. ~$60/head after tax and tip for lunch.

Fettuccine Alfredo at Giovanni's

Hey there yelpers! So I'm travelling in Ottawa, Canada for a few days and I ate here last night when I was craving italian food (almost a normal state for me pretty much all the time). Located in the Little Italy area the outside of the building was a beautiful sight to see. When I went inside I was greeted warmly by both the owner (or someone important to Giovanni's) and seated within ten minutes, despite it being packed inside. The décor inside was extremely nice and upscale but without the snooty, arrogant feel that similar places in America show. When I sat down in the bar area, the finely dressed barkeep took my order and I got the food delivered to me in about 10 - 15mins. I had the regular Fettuccine Alfredo and what is called a Summer Colada there (Ciroc French Vanilla vodka and a splash of pineapple juice) and I can honestly say that was one of the best alcoholic drinks I've had and some of the (if not the best) best pasta I've had. The entire staff was very nice and helped each other out. it was almost as if the wait staff had no specific section they worked in and just regularly helped out as they felt was necessary to ensure people were having an enjoyable stay. The pricing of the place is a bit pricier but I think that for the quality of food and level of service provided made that a non-thing. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Italian place when visiting Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Happy yelping!

Requested to have Italian food for my birthday dinner, so boyfriend decided to take me to Giovanni's upon a friend's recommendation. He had made reservations for 6:00pm. It was fairly quiet when we arrived but got busier as time went by. We were seated and our waiter was attentive right away, he was very knowledgeable of the menu too, which was great. We started with some cocktails which were awesome, followed by mussels for appetizer. The sauce for the mussels was so delicious and they were cooked perfectly. We were provided plenty of bread to dip in the sauce. Our main dishes came fairly soon afterwards; the dish of the day was seared fish which is what my boyfriend ordered and I got the ricotta & spinach stuffed pasta in creamy tomato sauce. Both were very delicious. My pasta pieces were gigantic and fresh, perfectly cooked and the creamy tomato sauce married well with the stuffing. We left the restaurant stuffed and satisfied. I would return for special occasions as this is normally out of our price range, but highly recommended for great services and delicious Italian food!

King crab seafood risotto

We've been going hear every Valentine's Day for three consecutive years. Our yearly treat. The service has always been exceptional. From the moment you drive up to the restaurant, valet, checking in, coat check, menu selection etc... Attention to detail is phenomenal. For the price, the service AND menu items are totally worth it. We always go for the seafood entrees. Great newly renovated inside and outside adds to the already great ambiance. Highly recommended.

Service is solid but the food doesn't come close to an Italian restaurant in Italy, or New York or San Francisco or even Boston. Calamari was good but came with cocktail sauce in stead of marinara. Odd choice. Salad was solid as was the pesto pasta. But the chicken parm was way to thick, gloppy and not that great. Looking around the restaurant, I saw other gloppy looking food. In any case, this seems like a restaurant it is better to stick with the pasta (a word also pronunced differently in Canada, lol.)

The veal chop was huge and had a great portion of gnocchi. The pescatore was also very delicious, although 1/6 of the mussels were not open, which was disappointing but it happens. We split the escargot appetizer and it was delicious!! They were also very kind and pre-split it for us, so it came out on two plates. For dessert we had the tartufo and the apple crumble. Both were amazing, but special shoutout to the apple crumble- it was spectacular. All in all a great visit and will come again. They have a huge patio, but the restaurant inside is a little on the smaller side.

Soft sweet interior of zucchini was good and outside was light crispy with some nice flavour from seasoning. Ranch on the side to add some fat. Nice to try, but would not get again. Calamari - Lightly breaded squid and lightly seasoned. Definitely needed the cocktail sauce, or ranch from zucchini fries to add flavour. Good amount of squid for the price. Nice to try. Chicken Parm Sandwich - Nice sandwich, large flat piece of chicken with a good amount of cheese and tomato sauce. Bread was decently fresh as well. Fries were undercooked... Would recommend, ask for extra crispy fries to ensure they cooked through. Unlikely to come again as so many other things to try in the area.

The pizza is very good and if you like a gourmet pizza this is the place to go. The seafood pasta is also a good choice. I'm giving it three 3 stars due to the service we received this evening. The server did not ask how our dinner was and in the past the waitress would always ask. We had to ask another waitress for salt and spicy oil for our pizza crust, as the waitress serving our table was no where in site. The pizza was dry and the sea food pasta was al dante, when we mentioned this to our waitress she said that she'd mentioned it to the kitchen. The service was a disappointment to say the least. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant 3-stars is because we've received 5-star food and service pre-COVID.

Luckily I didn't come in at a crazy time. The service was quick and friendly. I started off with the sourdough bread with cultured butter. I loved that it was the right size where you don't end up full on bread. The cultured butter was a nice touch but they didn't offer just a chunk where you feel you have to use all of it. (the difference is cultured butter has more flavour and a bit tangy). For the main I decided to go the red pie road and ordered the Sweet Tony. My oh my how delicious this was. That hot honey really added some fun flavour that cut through the Fior di Latte and the basil added that freshness it needed. The pie was the right size for two people however if your party is larger perhaps order two pies! I will definitely be stopping by and trying a new pie next time I'm in Ottawa.

We were seated at a table in the inside of the restaurant, which was actually quite warm as the main doors were open, which minimized the coolness from the air conditioner. We were served by a nice middle-aged gentleman, whom provided us with menus upon arriving, giving us ample time to decide. Since we weren't too hungry, we settled on sliced bread with butter (which was $8.00), and a margarita pizza. The bread had a strange burnt taste to it however, with the butter, the burnt taste wasn't as apparent. Also, the amount of seeds on the bread's crust were overwhelming, which made us mostly taste the seeds as opposed to the bread itself. We also found the price much too high for sliced bread; many restaurants provide sliced bread for free however, this restaurant charged an exuberant amount for it. The margarita pizza looked appetizing upon viewing it for the first time however, once we had bitten into it, the cheese on the top was overwhelmingly salty. We were surprised, as margarita pizza usually doesn't have cheese that is that salty. As well, the price for this pizza was $20 +, which once again, we found much too expensive for what we were receiving. Overall, we wouldn't come back to this particular restaurant. Although the service was attentive and the atmosphere was inviting, the food wasn't very good, and it was overpriced. We certainly wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for an authentic Italian meal.

I also did try out some of the tiramisu they had and I really loved the flavour and the taste of the tiramisu. I also loved the fact how they had a wide variety of different food and drink options you can choose from on the menu at this location. The service at this location was fabulous because the staff were very friendly and helpful towards us when we were being served. Our meal arrived in a timely fashion too, which made this dining experience lovely. The ambiance at this location was fabulous because it was very modern and clean inside the location and I really liked the overall visual appeal of the restaurant. The price of the food and beverages is reasonable considering the high quality treatment at this location. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly recommend and encourage you to visit this location because of the amazing food, spectacular service, and great ambiance.

However, once we stepped into the restaurant, we knew that it would be a tad pricey. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time when we arrived therefore, we were given a round table near the window. Once we were seated, we each received a menu, and settled on our items. The restaurant itself was quite fancy, with the servers wearing formal attire, and the table setting/wall decor boasting an expensive flair. Once we had settled on our meals, we were given a basket of nicely warmed bread, with olive oil mixed with vinegar, along with peppers and olives on the side. The bread was amazing, and we were able to ask for seconds. The basket was never full, as we continuously ate what was placed inside of it. It was a great start to the meal! Once our main dishes arrived, we were surprised to see how much food was included. The chicken cutlet was quite large, with my son unable to finish it. It was also tasty, as I had tried a few bites. My daughter's meatball however had a strange spice which didn't sit well with her. As well, the dish that my mother and I had settled on had various pieces of burnt pasta, and it wasn't too appetizing. Since the prices were so high for each of the dishes, we were surprised that the taste wasn't adequate. Since we had such a positive experience with the complimentary bread, we expected the same for the main meal. However, we weren't too pleased with most of the items we had ordered. I have to give kudos to the service at this restaurant, as we were always doted on, from start to finish. We even saw the manager (or owner) come out to greet all of the guests individually.
