Really love the interior- although it was so loud in the restaurant that it was difficult to hear folks from across the table. We got the nachos to start, and i got the cobb salad, while my partner got the ribs. the nachos were good, although they were a little too salty. but i can appreciate that the chips seem to be fried in house, which is a bonus for sure. My partner said the ribs were fantastic. He really enjoyed the sauce. The cobb salad, while I really enjoyed the jammy egg, was really annoying to eat. It comes deconstructed (although i'm not sure that's the right word) and the lettuce isn't chopped.... which i found to be a bizarre choice. I highly recommend stopping in during happy hour. It's on the quieter side and the happy hour menu is one of the better ones in the neighborhood with some great options. We came here with the kids last week, and it was a great time. Service was fast, and again, it was quiet. I had no intentions of including Moxies on my Cheeseburger go-to list. Unfortunately, it is but not for the right reasons. I had a craving but knew my Euchre Club was that same evening so I had to have an early dinner. I recalled that Moxies have a Happy hour from 2 til 5 each day and low and behold there is a Bacon Cheeseburger on the Happy Hour specials list. So off I ventured to the locale Moxies closest to my card playing engagement 2 hours later. There was some large group event so I got thrown off my game and had to sit at the bar - I had brought reading material expecting to be alone at a table with all the space I needed. My first mistake was acting like I knew what I was doing. My second mistake was ordering a cheeseburger with fries and coke. I should have asked about the 'Specials' as it is a Bacon-Cheeseburger on that list. Or at least asked for a menu. The good news is I was asked what I wanted on it as I like my pickles on the side. I don't remember being told about a special sauce - again I should have asked for a menu. When the burger came it was instantly obvious that I am in the minority. Why are all restaurant burgers so packed with fillings and small buns? I had enough lettuce to make a personal salad. The good part was it came shredded - just the way I like it. Accompanying the patty, sauce and lettuce were tomato, pickle and onion. Again in hindsight I should have reduced the quantity of fillings but most times I think I should eat an item as served because there may be a rationale to it. Therefore, it goes without saying, it was not an easy bite - constantly readjusting patty in relation to center-of-bun. Stuff falling out. Overall, nothing exceptional to say. Moreover, I just wanted to finish it and did not take the time to notice whether or not it was dry. As stated, I know it was not remarkable or tasty in any manner. Which brings me to the fries. It was very similar to eating McDonalds fries in my opinion. Why I usually do not eat McDonalds anymore is the food, especially fries, are rarely fresh. The temperature gets cold very fast and by the end of the portion it is like eating old damp newspaper. Not that I ever have. Moxies fries do not resemble the McD' fries nor do they taste initially like them. It is about 5 mins in that the experience is similar. Limp and tasteless. I take half the blame for my hurried dining experience, as I said I just wanted it to be over, but when you are typically paying $20 plus for a burger combo in a restaurant these days you want something memorable not necessarily OMG but leaving you looking forward to the next time. Sometimes less is more when it comes to condiments. N'est-ce pas? And when did special sauce become a thang? What happened to good ol'catsup, mustard or relish. We arrived before our 6 pm reservations & were seated promptly. My wife has food allergies which were accommodated. Much appreciated. We ordered by 6:10. I had a bowl of Boston Clam chowder which was quite good & was served quickly. Our main courses arrived at 6:55, 45 minutes after ordering. My wife was starving. My wife's chicken was dry & the whole meal was drenched in salt & pepper, perhaps to make up for the lack of spices. She was noble to eat it and left more than half. I ordered short rib beef dip & as I lifted the gravy bowl to move it, it stuck & spilled. I asked our waitress for the table to be cleaned or for something to clean the table. She left to get it. The table had a huge amount of gravy all over which she saw and which had reached my wife's plate. 10 minutes passed. Nothing. I walked to the kitchen and asked for some napkins for a huge spill of my gravy bowl. A super nice employee (a blonde haired waitress? whose name I didn't get. Thank you!) gave me the napkins & showed up minutes later with a bowl of gravy. Our waitress showed up minutes later and asked if we got the napkins. She forgot. My food was getting cold by this time but at least the gravy was hot. My beef dip was good, not great. The coffee in a large mug I had was hot and excellent and the dessert we shared was good, but not what we ordered (brownie). The service and wait time here was terrible, the food ok to good and decor nice. It was an anniversary dinner which the waitress was aware of. My advice? Don't have a special meal here. There seemed to be many waiters & waitresses but service was almost non existent. To summarize: 1 inedible meal. 1 warm but not hot meal. Terrible, extremely slow service. Very disappointed. September 24/2021: This is more like a 4.5-Star vs a 4-Star. Very good meal but the service was quit slow. Mine was the Blackened Chicken Burger. $18.75 + $3.00 for a side salad vs side fries. All good but portion side was small & the chicken itself was VERY small. Poppy seed bun was a great flavour profile for the blackened chicken. I've been coming to Moxies for nearly a decade, it's always been a safe bet when finding somewhere to eat. I think the decor is very modern and attractive. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi, the presentation was very attractive and the flavor was good but I would've preferred a stronger seasoning on the fish. Their renowned dessert is the white chocolate brownie, you can't leave here without trying it, it absolutely delicious and decadent. Fiancé and I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather on a Wednesday. I began looking for places that have patios around us and found Moxie's. I've never been to this location before, but I have eaten at Moxie's and enjoyed their food and drink. We had already eaten but decided to go for some drinks on the patio. I called to find out about patio availability and was told that there would be a 45-minute wait. I asked to put my name down and waited for a text. So, we waited for 45 Minutes and never got the text, but decided to go regardless and see for ourselves. Once we were greeted I said that I had made a reservation and we were told that there is a table ready for us... why no text? Who knows. But there were 2 tables available on the lower patio, not sure about the upstairs one. Regardless, the weather was beautiful and I was excited! I was contemplating between the peach Bellini and the rose sangria, but with our waitress' recommendation I went for the Bellini. I got it double Moxie'd or whatever the saying is for a bigger glass! Fiancé got a beer and we opted for two mini desserts: the white chocolate brownie and the toffee. Both SO good! The brownie wasn't as warm as it usually is, but then again...I've never had the miniature version. Toffee was very buttery...so I would only indulge this one rarely. Pricey but worth it. To give you an idea - lunch for three of us without any alcohol and including two teas and one dessert came to $83 and some change and that's not including a tip. Our table had the Ramen with shrimp which was absolutely excellent. I had a spring salad that was exceptional with Cajun chicken. The Cajun chicken was good but super salty. Came here for a team dinner Ambience: has a nice outdoor patio, bacalony, and lots of room. Came on a week day night, the place was half full. Food: we ordered two apps to share - lettuce wraps & calamari. The lettuce wraps were interesting, it came with about 6/7 plain lettuce leaves, some chow mein, and we added some stir fry chicken on the side to add to the wraps. It's a do it yourself type of wrap. The idea is interesting, but the chow mein was very oily , and did not add much taste when added to the lettuce leaves. The calamari was standard, nothing special. We all ordered our own plate after. I had the seared tuna salad with marinated tofu. I specifically asked for no dressing, and confirmed when the waitress when the salad came that there was no dressing in the salad. But what do you know, there's dressing in the salad. Anyway, the seared tuna didn't look very fresh. But overall, it tasted okay. Everyone else enjoyed their meal. The menu had many asian inspired dishes - tuna poke, ramen, seared tuna power bowl, DIY lettuce wraps. And they even offer the trendy " beyond meat" burger. Cleaniness: this is one area where they have lost major brownie points. Their plates were greasy.. which is pretty gross for a huge food chain such as Moxie's. They don't put all the prices on the menu. Draft beer is $8.75 for 16 ounces. I ordered a pint and found out when the bill came that I was given the larger ones for $12.75. No wonder they don't put the prices on the menu, almost $13 for a beer. Could not afford to eat after the beer. lol I am going with one star because I didn't eat and not putting prices on the menu and then upselling without the customer knowing is pretty much a violation of my consumer rights. read more

Moxie's has been a family favourite restaurant for a few years now, dining there infrequently a couple of times a year. The restaurant on Riverside is our usual haunt, however, last week we decided to give the venue on Ogilvie a shot. I'm sad to say that we were disappointed. We arrived in a party of four at 6pm on a Sunday night. We were promptly seated and the specials were explained (they were featuring their Caesars, my Dad got one and wasn't blown away but enjoyed it well enough). That was when the lights went out, or seemed to at least. The house lights were turned off completely, and the mood lighting was so dark that it was actually hard to read the menu. When our waitress arrived, we actually asked for a candle for the table to provide a bit more illumination. We received our candle promptly and our drinks shortly after. Little did we know, it would be our last short wait of the night. I am not a fan of being made to wait. When a restaurant is full, I understand that circumstances need to be taken into account. However, during the early evening of a Sunday when the restaurant is barely half full ... I'm a little less lenient with my patience. It was a fairly long wait for simple meals, the kind of wait that is so prolonged that you actually go from being hungry to being apathetic and disinterested. When the food did arrive (I would have asked our waitress for an ETA, but she was MIA), I do admit that I thoroughly enjoyed what I ordered. The veggie burger was flavourful and well-cooked. I enjoyed the goat cheese on top, and had asked for the burger without the pesto and special sauce. While I believed the bun to be a little too big for the burger, I'll admit that that comment is nit-picking, especially considering the fact that I enjoyed the bun very much. I had the side house salad along with it -- various tossed greens, cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries, and what I believe was their grapefruit vinaigrette (I wasn't asked of my choice of dressings or informed of which I would receive, but I'm glad they decided to go with my favourite of their selections). Unfortunately, I'm the only one of our party who enjoyed their meal. A caesar salad had to be rid of croutons by the patron as the waitress was nowhere to be found, a pasta dish was declared sub-par containing mushrooms that were undercooked, and a "very disappointing" beef vindaloo with cold rice definitely not made to order (my Dad rarely sounds dejected when speaking of food, so his heartless pronunciation really hit home for me). My fellow diners were all too polite to complain, though admitted as we left that each should have sent their dish back. Our waitress appeared once, barely a minute after we received our meals, to ask how we were enjoying them, and was not seen again until we were finished. She told us that she was bringing the dessert menu, but did not return with it for at least 20 minutes. We only contemplated dessert because we were celebrating a birthday, but quickly decided against it. Much to our chagrin, it was yet another 10 minutes before the waitress returned. We settled our bill and left with sad hearts. Moxie's has never disappointed us in the past. I am not certain if it was the change of venue or simply a fluke that caused this evening, but it's only saving grace for this night in my eyes was the fact that I enjoyed my meal. It was definitely not enough to balance the overall disappointment, however. We will be returning to Moxie's, but never again to that location. read more

My in-laws took me for a meal at Moxie's during my first visit to Ottawa in June and I thought it was a very stylish place. The design and lay out of the restaurant with all it's split levels makes it a very interesting place to dine. The cocktails were absolutely amazing! During my meal I tried 3 different ones that the cocktail menu had on offer and each one tasted more fabulous than the last. I think I could have easily spent all night just working my way through the cocktail list! The food was excellent too and there is plenty of selection. The bathrooms at Moxie's have to be the most exquisite I've ever seen and I'm not just talking about cleanliness here. There's a widescreen TV, a couch and vanity tables where you can sit down and do your makeup. I obviously have no idea if the gents bathrooms are just as classy but ladies should definitely go check them out...even if you don't need to 'go'. It may seem weird that I've just written an entire paragraph about the bathrooms at Moxie's but I was very impressed and you will be too! OK, now we get to the reasons why Moxie's doesn't have a full 5 stars. I REALLY didn't like the way that the management there are trying to drum up business. All the waitresses are barely out of puberty and wear practically nothing which, in spite of the classy surroundings, fancy drinks and gorgeous food gives the place a really sleazy feel to it. The kid (and I mean that literally) who showed us to our table was extremely miserable and not especially polite or welcoming. However, the waitress who served us our food and drinks for the rest of the night was lovely (and now I think about it, she was a lot more modestly dressed too....it's not that I'm a prude or anything. It's just that if I wanted to be served by girls wearing naught but tiny skirts and blouses that are practically see-through, I would have gone to Hooters.) Also, the light above our table was broken. Moxie's has very low lighting anyway (which I like a lot - 'mood lighting' is always good) but with no light whatsoever over the table, we could barely see each other or read the menu. When we arrived, the place wasn't that full at all but they didn't let us switch tables to one with a light that worked, despite there being plenty of others, which I didn't really understand. read more

As I have said previously, I am not a huge fan of chains and if I go there, I expect a bit more. Went to this location for dinner on a weekday. It was surprisingly busy but the overall service was pretty good. Their food was pretty standard. My order included sweet potato fries, chicken fettuccine and umm a couple of glasses of inniskillin white...lets just say a couple of glasses. The service was good but the server really didn't want to be there. I couldnt get her to smile or say a word more than she had to get our order. She really got to me for some reason and I am not even that picky. -1 star for service. I'd rather go to the Hunt Club location which I think should offer me a membership! read more

I was there a few months ago and told them I had food allergies. When the waiter brought my food, I was assured that none of the foods I react to were included in the meal. I broke out into a rash that lasted two weeks. Today, My work colleagues went as a group to have a lunch celebration for getting a big project finished. I told my boss who was booking the reservation that I don't trust them so he asked if I could bring my own food. They said yes, so I did. While we were eating, the "manager" Dorothy came over and told me that I was not allowed to eat there if I was eating my own food. I was totally embarrassed and so was everyone at the table! My boss told her that the manager from the day before told him that I could and she just said, "well we don't allow it." I basically told her I wouldn't be back. She just said ok and walked away. I was quite impressed by the atmosphere at this restaurant, what with it being in Gloucester. I loved the decor, the small bar on the second level, and the bathrooms! The food was pretty good, and not too expensive. I've heard some friends say the food is just ok for the price, I only went once so far. I was there for a holiday dinner with colleagues. I had the steak with prawn butter. The steak and vegetables were cooked well but the chimichurri was very salty. I guess that this there way of ensuring that patrons drink more. I had a cranberry juice martini which was oh so nice. My colleagues enjoyed their dinners too, with some taking home the extra portions. The prices are reasonable, the wait was not long, the service was good and the reservation process was easy. I am writing about the Gloucester Centre location of Moxies. I have been to Moxies many times and I always had good service and good food. Last night (Jan 14/23) I made a reservation in the afternoon by telephone. I received a confirmation by text. When my husband and I arrived - we are seniors - they immediately took us to a table downstairs where another 'senior' couple were seated and said here are your dinner companions. Unfortunately we had never seen them before and we were not meeting anyone. So back to the front desk we went, where 4 pretty young women tried to deal with us. There were empty tables everywhere. I pointed to an empty table and said how about that one and they said, 'no, that one has a reservation." I must have said a dozen times, "WE HAVE A RESERVATION". When I showed them the confirmation on my telephone that just caused more confusion as they couldn't find it on their computer. So they decided to put us in the bar. They showed us to a table right in the centre of the bar with high tables and stools and a noisy football watching crowd. I did see a table in the corner that might be quieter but they said that that one also had a reservation. I was assuming at that point that all reservations were not equal. Then back downstairs we went to the front desk. Finally they gave us a table in the dining room. Almost right away I got a phone call - from the front desk - I could see them talking to me from across the room. They said that they found my reservation and that I had booked it under a different name - just one letter off of my own - basically a typo on my part. I again explained that I PHONED in the reservation and it was unlikely that I would SAY my name incorrectly so could it possibly be their error? They never admitted they could have made a mistake, never said the word sorry - just implied that I had done something wrong. All of this took 15 minutes. In the end, we had a lovely server and good food. The meal was spoiled for us as we had lost so much time and had a movie to catch so it turned into a quick eat and run as opposed to the lovely dinner we were hoping for. read more

My friend told me about the 1/2 off bottles of Wine on Wednesday so we obviously had to go! From the moment I got there it was packed, but we said we were happy to take a bar seat and from there the night was so much fun. They recommended several great bottles of wine, we drank two and both were right on par with what we ordered. The only complaint I had was when they brought out the dessert trio, I mentioned the brownie was a little dry. Right away they brought out a full size brownie dessert for us to share at no charge - definitely not necessary considering we were full but it was a wonderful gesture. One of the most overrated places on earth really. Besides cramming instagram model wannabes into skintight black dresses I'm not sure what they're good at really? They do make a mean $12 martini mind you. Food wise I've tried the full spectrum and never really liked anything enough to order it again. My wife really liked the med bread which is essentially a warmed up pits bread with a couple dipping sauces....yawn. Sausage and pepper penne just ok. Steak less than ok for the price. Chicken sandwich messy and trying way too hard. Last time I got a burger and guess what? It was ok. My wife and I have been on a health kick for at least the last two years. It has been rewarding, in the sense that we feel better about ourselves and feel healthier too. But, although I am content with healthier food choices, there is one thing that I still crave - the Monte Cristo sandwich from Moxie's. Most restaurants are on a health kick too, so it is tough to find the Monte Cristo anymore (for those of you not hip to the Monte Cristo, it is basically a ham and cheese sandwich, but dipped in egg and fried like french toast. Great ambiance, great meeting place, near the Gloucester Cineplex. This is a fav foodie dive for us if we can't go try something new in Ottawa. This is located in a shopping outlet area with a nearby Walmart as it's chief anchored Tennant. In the past we ordered tuna tartar, chicken with avocado, spaghetti Bolognese to name a few. The Good: caters to family, intimate dinners and group events. something for everyone. We suggest to go during the week as there are many specials like guacamole and nachos, 2:1 beer nights and fried spare ribs. Order their cheesecake with white chocolate dressed in eggrolls- chef favorite and ours too! Good selection of vino. The Bad: the do offer honey garlic steak which is pricey but lacks in innovation- you can get steaks at specialized eateries which would be even bigger for your buck. The Ugly: where this one is located a lot of competition at more affordable prices so this is at high end of franchised typed fine dining. Tip; Ask for specials it's a great start. $$-$$$ read more

There were 2 of us and there was nothing outstanding about our meal, there was nothing terribly wrong with it either. I found that for the price it could have been just a notch better. We had the table side guacamole as an appetiser and then I had the salmon/avocado salad. The guacamole was OK although we both thought there could have been more since thee was a huge container of nacho chips, and I found that my salad had too much dressing - ease up so that the other flavours are not drowned out. Once I scraped most of the dressing off, the salad was good. Service was good, and as I started this review, the whole night was nothing outstanding, nothing terribly wrong. read more

Had they even looked at it before plating they could have seen it. Oh and the waitress was the topper! She was sitting at a table two tables away from us and was so distracted. We truly felt like we were a bother. She consistantly fucked up, forgetting to place my order for my appetizer while placing my friends order, So i watched her eat as we both wondered why hers took so little time and mine so long. We enjoy Moxie's because of the service, quality, and consistency. We had never tried the location on Ogilvie Road, but my partner and I decided to try it with her parents last night. It did not measure up compared to any of our previous meals at other Moxie's locations. First off we ordered red wine. We did not order hot red wine, but that's what we each received. All had to be chilled in an ice bucket. Serving wine at the correct temperature is basic, but not for this location. 3 of us ordered steaks. 2 of the 3 (steak and shrimp and butcher block steak sandwich) had sinew running through them and were chewy and virtually inedible. One was ordered medium-well and was cooked medium rare. I asked for a sauce of some kind for my onion rings. Our server suggested a garlic dipping sauce, which she charged us for. Our server was new. She did try hard, but was not very familiar with the menu and did not know enough about the process to try to make any of this right. The ambiance and food were very good. However, their accommodation of my son's numerous and severe food allergies was outstanding. With only a quick phone call made a few hours ahead, the chef and manager came up with a number of nice options that were peanut, tree nut, dairy, egg, sesame, fish, shellfish and beef-free. My son enjoyed his meal with no problems and we were certainly made to feel welcome. Thanks again! read more

Went this Saturday. Not impressed. Staff was wonderful. Food nothing to write home about. My friend liked her vindaloo but you call that naan bread. My other friend had the short rib burger but found it bland. I had the Madagascar peppercorn steak a supposed NY strip. Five peppercorns that had no taste. All I could taste was butter or some kind of grease that covered the steak. They must have butterflied the steak to give two portions. It was very small for the price - steak a few fries for 26 bucks. A lot of fancy words and what a disappointment when you get your order. Ill stick to the Keg much better food. Only good thing was the dessert. Toffee sticky pudding! read more

WORST MOXIE'S TO GO TO!!!!! It's hit or miss service. Don't do it, don't chance it!! We were there on a friday night served upstairs by "one of the top service girls" I think not!! Not even a do you want another drink or would you like dessert. Thanks but no thanks moxie's in Gloucester, I'll chose another location! Calamari was discustingly greasy and nasty. The spring rolls were great and so we're the wings though! 5 stars for that. 0 for service! I ended up leaving with the worst taste in my mouth for this place. read more
