We ordered the steak with lobster, lobster spaghetti, truffle parmesan fries, and their signature sangria. The steak was cooked spot on: medium rare and just a touch on the rare side, exactly how I wanted it and mentioned from the get-go. Everything arrived promptly, which made the whole experience feel smooth and well-paced. We placed 4 happy hour sangrias, which were perfectly balanced and refreshing. What really stood out was the service. Our server, Ace, was wonderful, attentive, friendly, and genuinely engaging. She even surprised us with a complimentary dessert to celebrate, which made the evening feel extra special. We were able to walk in for dinner on a weekend. The service was friendly and the restaurant was large. They have plenty of booths and the restaurant is dimly lit. We ordered the tacos, salmon, and lobster pasta. Everything was well prepared and tasted good. The baja fish tacos were shrimp & cod, guacamole, valentina's, fries, and it was 2 tacos. The herb crush salmon was served with truffle beurre blanc, preserved tomatoes, creamy mashed potatoes, and snap peas. The lobster pasta was served with atlantic lobster, prawns, white wine, shallots, cherry tomatoes, italian parsley, and a lobster-lemon butter sauce. October 18/2024: Dinner with Dan & Vera. Our annual pilgrimage to Ottawa & we decided to eat here. I'm well aware of the Joey Brand in Western Canada & have eaten at a Joey location many times before. This was a terrible food experience & definite MISS by the restaurant chain! To start with they were understaffed so we ended up waiting for a table even though there were tables available. To my recollection, dinner happens EVERY day at roughly 6:00pmish. Our server was Sydney. She was very good, quick witted and polite. The place was loud & busy but still a decent atmosphere....then the wheels fell off. I ordered the double crispy fries (not the truffle fries). They were advertised as extra hot & crispy. They were neither & for the minute order size the restaurant should have been embarrassed to serve them. They were removed from the cheque when I sent them back. My main was the blackened chicken breast with warm potato salad & side slaw ($37.00). The chicken breast was tiny, the coleslaw was just ok & the warm potato salad should have been hotter. I've had this meal on a number of occasions & this was FAR under par. Earls Restaurant from the same neck of the woods does a far better job of this exact meal! There were few redeeming factors to this meal. I left feeling under feed & had to go get additional food after dinner. In my opinion this was terrible & definitely NOT a do-over. read more

Joey is a place I'm familiar with since there is one in LA. The service is always good but I felt the service in the Manhattan Beach location in Southern California was a little better. We got there for happy hour but just ordered off the main menu. Overall the food was good with my favorite being the Cobb salad. The dumplings and kung pao cauliflower were excellent. My burger was disappointing because it was way too salty. I still ate it. The atmosphere was a little on the subdue side given it was early happy hour. That was nice since we were with family. The restaurant has a very chic - modern vibe and the cocktail bar is pretty phenomenal. I was in awe seeing all the fresh cocktails being prepped and delivered. The food was good and the entree - Bombay tofu could have been better. The pappadamas were not fried and delivered raw. I sent it back and they just placed it on the table as if it was nothing. A little more attention wouldn't hurt but overall the experience was good. I recommend this restaurant but I felt like I had to call on them several times to take care of me. This place deserves every star I gave it, I swear. I don't even know where to begin, lol. First things first, they greet you at the door and offer you a glass of champagne. If that doesn't make you feel special, idk what does. Second, the service here is great. They take great care of you. They make you feel special, and if you add a note in your reservation, they will be sure to remember. We got seated by the kitchen, and it was awesome! I think it's petty considering how little it costs to make and the cost of everything else. They were more than happy to give attention to the alcohol drinkers though. Came in here for a large party on a Tuesday night and was surprised how busy it was. Apparently when you first come in youre' supposed to be offer a complimentary champagne but our entire party of 18 was not given that. My table started with some drinks, guac and the sweet potatoe fries, for the size of the items we got the price is extremely high. The size of the app sweet potatoes were the same size I received with my burger so to pay over $14 for them was a bit much. The service was extremely slow, we asked the server multiple times for drinks, water, cutlery, etc and it took us asking 2-3 times for us to finally receive it. A friend of mine ordered the spaghetti and ended up with a hair in the dish a quarter of the way into her dish, but considering she hardly ate her dish a replacement should've been offered. I got the veggie mushroom burger and was impressed at the flavor (highlight of the whole night). This place has great food and service, but it also has something you would not believe...free entertainment. The last time I was there I watched a man almost dying of an overdose just outside the doors, before that a woman danced right outside the window stating at us for 2 hours, and before that there was a woman who walked past the glass walls exposing herself. The time before that we were confronted be protesters who were attempting to prevent people from entering. But I still go...why? I love the atmosphere (inside not outside), the service, and the food. This is not being said against the restaurant at all. It is a story of what downtown Ottawa is due to a lack of resources, and shows how hard businesses are trying to try this around on their own. read more

JOEY Rideau is one of my go-to for quick, trendy eats. The last few times I've had reservations there, they offered a complimentary glass of champagne which have been nice surprises. For the past few years of me coming here, service has always been great. They've been accommodating with food substitutions (as needed), they check in on us enough but not so much that our conversations keep getting annoyingly interrupted. Staff have always been really nice. I'm girl with that likes a routine so I always order the same entree ( rare steak with torched salmon sushi). The sauce for the steak is quite flavourful with a hint of spice but not overwhelmingly spicy. The salmon sushi reminds me a lot of what we normally get at our fave sushi spot in Toronto (Miku) so its nice that I can get that here in my hometown. I do love their ever evolving dessert menu though. Its nice to change up desserts every now again. I am currently obsessed with their italian donuts (as pictured) and I also got their creme brulee cheesecake for takeout for hubby and he is in love with it. Joey is one of my favourite go to restaurants in Ottawa because it has a good vibe, good food, and a very extensive menu that can cater to anyones food preferences. It has everything from pasta, burgers/sandwiches, butter chicken, to sushi/fish. Its one of those restaurants that I would order anything on the menu and know that it will be good quality and delicious. I've been here a few time and my favourite appetizer to share is the hummus ($17). It is sooo delicious (and I'm not even a big hummus eater), very generous portion that can easily be shared as an appetizer between 3-4 people. I've also tried the sushi cone ($5), its good and presented very nicely. Getting 1-2 cones is a perfect light appetizer for one person. As for mains, I've had the California Chicken sandwich ($19) twice and its very good and filling. Recommend if you like a solid grilled chicken sandwich. I've had the chicken parmesan and it was delicious but a bit small in portion size for the price in my opinion, but would definitely order again. I think the chicken parm could also be plated better with the chicken on top or beside the pasta. At first I thoUght they forgot the chicken but it was just hidden underneath the spaghetti. I've tried the steak and lobster ravioli ($30) as well, and it was good but very small portion, it had maybe 8-10 raviolis. A bit pricy for the portion in my opinion, but would order if I got a bigger appetizer or was not very hungry. As for drinks, Joey can make anything you ask for but one of my favourite cocktails on their menu is the raspberry mojito. Service and vibe: Service is always great, extremely friendly and accommodating staff. They have a great summer patio and love the inside vibe of their restaurant. Downside is that they do not take reservations and can be a long wait to get in. I also noticed that they seriously lack in diversity among their staff which is highly questionable, which is why I gave them 4/5 stars. Overall, this place is great for any occasion whether it is Friday night drinks with friends, dates, family dinners etc. Their extensive menu will have something that will appeal to everyone. read more

When in Ottawa, JOEY'S is a must. The food is cooked in a kitchen that can be seen from almost every table in the dinning area. Exceptionally clean with a friendly staff. I have been here multiple times. I'd recommend ordering the "Steak and Sushi". This is a dish that is slightly off the grid, but they two courses compliment each other perfectly! Sushi Cones during happy hour are also a must. JOEY'S can be on the expensive side, but when the food is good I don't mind forking out the money. We didn't have any reservation so we did a walk-in reservation. The hostess told us that it would take 1 hour of wait time, however we got a text after 30 mins saying our table was ready. The restaurant was clean, the staff were very helpful in terms of helping us make the right choice of food. The guacamole was delicious, it had different textures and explosions of flavours. The tuna sushi was very well presented and definitely a must try! The sushi cones were good but I preferred the sushi rolls. I'm often skeptical when I order grilled chicken sandwich sometimes, but our waitress Isabella took her time to explain how this dish was made and I trusted her opinion. The chicken was tender and the sandwich was extremely juicy! As for the steak & sushi, I highly recommend this dish! It was my favourite! Overall, we had a great time despite the wait of our food but the service made it really enjoyable. One of the best places I ate at in my Canada trip. Our party of 3 was seated quickly and service was excellent. We ordered gyoza and Salmon Sushi to start. Off to a great start as both dishes were great. Our entrees were the cod, salmon and ravioli....all excellent. For dessert we got the chocolate molten cake...excellent as well. I love Joey! It's a very nice and aesthetically pleasing patio with a great variety of foods. I've gotten the lobster ravioli, the hummus, the California chicken and the baja fish tacos (pictured here). Ravioli was very tasty! Just a bit expensive and you do not get a lot of food, maybe 8-10 pieces of pasta. The hummus is delicious. It's a mix of hummus, tzatziki, olives and garnish. Comes with a basket of pita chips and it's a large portion. It's good for sharing! California chicken was a good sandwich and came with fries. The fries taste like McDonald's but if you love McDonald's like me... it was nice surprise. Good portion size for the price. Baja fish tacos were one of my favourite fish tacos I've ever had. They were pretty filling and the sauce + guacamole were really good! Definitely will get these again. Their drink menu is fairly extensive and has options for many different tastes! The food is excellent. We had a filet mignon which was very tender and juicy and a burger also very tasty . The service is a little slow . I asked for an espresso coffee I got the coffee without any sugar on the table and no spoon. I asked for sugar the waiter brought me sugar but no spoon by the time I got the spoon the coffee was too cold. A nice atmosphere although too dull with faded light.
