By this, I mean you show up as a solo diner and they treat you like you are not worth their time. It took me almost an hour just to park. This is a very busy shopping/dining centre, which I didn't mind, but the parking garage was packed, hard to find a spot. But I did it. Went up to the restaurant. There were four groups waiting...I counted them as I went in. Many empty tables. This was the classic case of a bunch of people standing around at the front like deer in headlights. They ignored me and two of the three walked off before anyone even acknowledged me. Finally, the young lady with dark hair wearing a green cardigan spoke to me. I was a waitress in college many years. Some of this generation (not the amazing restaurant I went to after) wouldn't know customer service if it slapped them in the face. She asked how many and as soon as I said, "Just one," she screwed up her nose and made a face and totally wrote me off. I got the copout: I can seat you at the bar. I explained I have RA and those stools are torture for me (also twisted my knee and the bar stool at Prohibition the night before was so painful I had to move). She said I could eat outside. It was 83 degrees. I told her it was too hot. She said there was a 2.5 hour wait. Bullshit. I've worked in restaurants, eaten at MANY. Four groups waiting? She just wrote me off. Too bad for you. I order appies, drinks...have a bill like a couple and tip to make up0 for it too. Ask the servers at restaurant I went to instead. So rude. No wonder so many restaurants are closing. I wouldn't go back if you PAID me to eat there. There are far too many options to treat paying customers this way. If she is any indication of the service there, I dodged a bullet! Our appetizer was the Chicken Lettuce Wrap $(24.75). This was delicious & was a decent size portion. My main was a tiny Chicken Club sandwich with an equally as tiny side of fries ($25.00). While in Ottawa on vacation, I met up with a former colleague who turned into my friend. We both used to work and live in Winnipeg. We oddly didn't work in the same department, but we knew each other. We both started out in technical support and branched out. I leaned towards technical writing. He became a manager. We have similar life events. We have both moved around. These days, he lives roughly thirty minutes south of Ottawa. While I was in town, I got to watch him play a hockey game at Carlton University. We caught up after he was done playing. We then drove over to JOEY Lansdowne to grab dinner. I parked at the underground parking lot attached to TD Centre and more. He got to this eatery first and added our name to the waiting list. I'm so glad that we were texting each other. I got there and didn't see him in line. It turns out that he was heading to a spot on the patio with a staffer, so I joined in perfectly. It's amazing that years have passed since we last saw each other. Yet, we are so similar, to the point where we both ordered the same thing, except for drinks. The patio was lovely at around 9 pm onwards. The sun had set and the heat had greatly dissipated. It was enjoyable spending practically three hours catching up with each other. He got a Sapporo as his drink of choice. I went with a Diet Coke. Both were icy cold. So good! Our mains and dessert orders were identical: - Six-ounce sirloin with garlic butter, rocket greens, preserved cherry tomatoes, and fries. - Warm Italian donuts with vanilla marscapone cream and lemon curd I got my steak medium well. He went medium rare with his. Our meals came out roughly twenty minutes later. It was pretty busy when we were there. We were so engrossed catching up with each other than this wait didn't feel long at all. The food was delicious. The sirloin steak was cooked perfectly to my liking. The garlic butter made this already seasoned steak even better. Each steak morsel just melted in my mouth. I loved the rocket greens that had preserved cherry tomatoes. The dressing was light and yummy. I also enjoyed the fries that came with ketchup. They were lightly crispy on the outside and creamy inside. Delightful! The portion size of this meal was perfect. It was nice to have more fries and salad than steak. We felt like dessert. We also didn't want the evening to end. We both got warm Italian donuts. They were bite-sized and had a light dusting of powdered sugar. They were indeed warm, with the best vanilla marscapone cream and lemon curd accompanying them. The vanilla flavour was subtle. I loved the marscapone cream. The lemon curd was tart, which made this dessert awesome. It was the perfect end to our mini reunion. We both didn't expect to meet up, but we made it happen and it all worked out nicely. It was great seeing and spending some time with him. Our server was attentive throughout our dining experience. He brought Worcestershire sauce for my friend for his steak. He also refilled my Diet Coke. We settled the bill. I paid with a credit card. I tipped. Done! We both used the washroom before we parted ways. Each washroom stall was gender-neutral. The one that I used was clean and nicely maintained. I loved dining here. I have passed by this eatery a handful of times the last two visits to Ottawa. It was nice to finally dine here and meet up with a friend. Once again I had the steak sushi ($34) very good value. Love the sushi this time I tried the tuna avocado. It really hit the spot. I have tried both the salmon and the tuna. Don't make me pick one. The tuna is a safe pick but the salmon has a nice little kick. For the steak I took the 7oz option for ($4) more. I asked not to add in the sauce as my medium rare was well done the last time. It was perfect today. My partner got the butter chicken really good ($28) with extra naan ($4) Like a good partner I stole a bite. Even if I had it before it has a very soft taste. I could not leave before having the creme brûlée cheesecake. Like I said last time the perfect dessert to share. It come with two squares. We received a gift card from a family member for $100 USD as a Christmas Present and were excited about enjoying a meal at this restaurant. We went and everything initially about the restaurant was very enjoyable. The food was very good, the service was attentive and we enjoyed our experience until the cheque arrived. When we we presented the gift card (electronically) our server went to speak with a manager and then returned to inform us that the $100 USD would be honoured in Canadian dollars. $100 USD is worth $144.50 Canadian dollars according to google when checked today. We paid the bill and tipped the service team 22% and left after effectively having $44.50 taken from us and our family member in what felt likevyo us, theft by conversion. The manager in question did not come to follow up after our expressing our disappointment JOEY's is already a very expensive restaurant. Further, the gift card information indicates that Joey's has US based restaurants. I'm quite sure that Canadian dollar gift cards are not accepted at par in the US. This ruined for us, what was otherwise a positive experience, through what felt like to us, an act of corporate greed and impersonal profiteering. After this experience we will not be back and sadly, I cannot recommend JOEY's as a place for anyone else to dine at. read more

I love the vibe at this restaurant. The lights are usually always dimmed, and this along with the elegant decor work together to create the perfect dinner mood. It's honestly like the type of restaurant you'd find characters in at movies- that's the best way I can put it. The food is pretty good, which it honestly has to be with the way things are priced. Our waitress was very kind and the food didn't take too long to come- which is an improvement from the last time we visited. They also had great music this time which is honestly a big plus for me! Filling fell out everywhere, fish was soggy, fries were lukewarm). Hubby got the burger and fries. He said it was good, fries were lukewarm. I have been eyeing the fritter buddha bowl for a while. To be honest, it was pretty boring. There wasn't anything to make the bowl stand out. No pop of flavours. The fritters were mushy and again, had no remarkable flavouring to them. Rice was cold, fritters were cold, you get the story.... The warm italian donuts were good. Also ordered two side orders of garlic toast, meh. The free small gluten free brownie that they threw in was amazing though. A great spot for food and drinks! Loved their ample patio space, and prompt service we received at 3pm on a Saturday. All the servers were wearing their clear masks and there was hand sanitizer at the entrance. I love how dine in happy hour is back daily 2-5pm, and Sunday -Thursday 10pm to close. I had the sangria for $5 and the tuna poke bowl for $18. Was very satisfied with my meal! Only thing was water - it was a pretty hot day, and the server never filled up our water glasses. I used to love how they welcome you with champagne when you come in, asked for that and they said they are currently not serving it without giving any reason or details - I don't know maybe since it is during the happy hour (3:30ish), at Lansdowne. My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna burger that was amazing. I ordered the steak Frites (6 oz steak) which did not live up with the usual quality I am used to from Joey Rideau and Lansdowne. The steak was done as asked medium rare and the flavour was good, but the cut of meat maybe had 2 oz fat and the rest was impossible to cut or chew ( I was able to get two bites in); I informed our server, who took the plate to the kitchen and then handed it back to me saying that is how it supposed to be, I put the plate aside and ordered the sliders (they were alright). The tab came and they charged me for everything not even an apology or acknowledgment that the steak was off. It's been a couple of years since I've been back home to Ottawa and it seems that Joeys is the new trendy restaurant in town. The restaurant is super busy, we had to wait over an hour for a table but I wanted to see what all the hype was about. We were also told numerous times by the staff that the dining time is restricted to 90 minutes. The members of my party were really off-put by that but I get it, they are trying to make up for lost revenue during the pandemic but they should find a more tactful way of conveying that. I ordered the Buddha bowl with tofu, I really enjoyed it, the ingredients were really fresh and the presentation was appealing. Had lunch today with my wife and daughter. It was perfect! On arrival the hostess politely gave us a choice of tables outside, allowing us to choose a table in the shade. The food was delicious. We started with a tuna sushi roll followed by Japanese pork dumplings and a Mediterranean chicken bowl. All were excellent. The server, Dennis Chan, was outstanding. It was first time dining at JOEY, although I like the interior and the atmosphere I have to say that I wasn't satisfied with the food. The hamburger and Slider's Royale's bread was stale. Parmesan fries was average. The Spaghetti Pomodora was quite nice, my friend enjoyed her meal. I understand that it was a crowded night but unfortunately the stuff member were quiet late with our orders. We waited for a small amount mayonnaise for way too long but at the end we had to ask for it more than couple times. The portions were on the smaller size in comparison to its prices. We ordered dinner from JOEY a few times before they stopped delivering to our neighbourhood. Oddly, LOCAL still does, which is their more casual, sister restaurant that's right beside them at Lansdowne. We basically ordered the same things throughout the month or two that they were delivering to us - alcohol, sushi, steak, and dessert. They were one of the only places delivering alcohol to us at the time, so we got mostly wine and beer the first time. We had to get food as well, so we got some seared salmon sushi as an appetizer, and just made dinner with stuff we already had at home. The sushi is nigiri style with the fish on top. The salmon was torched and the slices of serrano pepper on top were just the right amount of spice. It was really good, but had a higher $17 price tag for 6 pieces, in my opinion. With two of the cheaper bottles of white wine, 6 Coronas, and the sushi, plus tax, tip, and fees, it came to $110. The second time we ordered steaks and some more wine for our wedding anniversary. It was an even bigger price tag, but we wanted to splurge. My husband got the prime sirloin, which came with seasonal veggies and crispy mashed potatoes. It says on the menu that this steak is considered the most flavourful cut. The veggies were roasted asparagus and the potatoes ended up being mashed potatoes deep fried in spring roll wrappers and came loaded, topped with bacon, cheese, green onions, and sour cream on the side. I got the steak and lobster ravioli - sliced grilled sirloin and lobster and prawn ravioli with truffle beurre blanc. The ravioli was really great - al dente with really rich sauce, but just the right portion. The steak was good, but honestly not as good as my husband's. I didn't realize my dish didn't come with any veggies at all, which was disappointing, but my husband's was nice and enough to share his. They also threw in a brownie square for free, not even knowing it was our anniversary. Guess we got lucky! It was super dense, super moist, and super chocolatey. Delicious, and I only needed a mini bite or two at a time to satisfy that after-dinner sweet tooth. We tried ordering a brownie later down the line but it wasn't the same and was more cakey than fudgey like we enjoyed the first time. There was also another time I got the yellowfin tuna salad for delivery, my favourite in person. It has seared ahi tuna, mango, peanuts, avocado, crispy noodles, and cilantro ginger dressing. Truthfully, the delivery version wasn't my favourite. They left the dressing and the crispy noodles on the side, which was great, but for some reason it didn't taste the same. My husband was craving the steak, so this time I decided to stick to steak and got the prime sirloin, too. My steak was cooked medium rare - a little bit more than I normally like (I like it on the rare side), but still good. Overall, I think there's just a bit of a lack of consistency, but the food really is good. They also use better quality containers and still try to make it look pretty, even though it's for delivery. They're definitely not cheap eats, but they make a dinner date night in feel a little more special! read more

I said yes, 2 hours. 10 minutes later someone came and said that the next party was there. While I understood we had a two hour time to be pushed out after 70 minutes was not cool. We weren't given a chance to order dessert or coffee. Server disappeared. We came with 2 kids and the waitress immediately asked us do you want to get the kids food first or with everyone else- this question alone shows that they understand a lot about how to handle kids and provide a great dining experience. 5/5 What abkut the food? While their fries are just ok, I had the best impossible meat burger I ever had. I love this place. Food and staff are incredible. I recommend the sushi cones. They are amazing and served nicely and elegantly. Also, check out the deep fried cauliflower because they are great too; tangy with a little heat. The decor is very hip and the place is alive. An awesome date place if you're looking to have a good time in a happening atmosphere. We've been here three times and always love it. Weekend nights, I recommend getting a booth reserved if you can because it gets full fast and the bar space can be tight. We're in Phase 2 finally! We went to our favorite restaurant Joey's in Ottawa. The outdoor patios are now open. Only the Joey's at Lansdowne had a patio. I thought I would call in for a father's Day dinner reservation but I was told that they do not take any reservations whatsoever. Upon our arrival, we were told that the waiting time was 20 minutes. As the patrons slowly started to be seated, others decided not to wait and mentioned that they would sit on the other side (a make shift space in front of the bank next door not covered like Joey's patio) so they ate and drank under a scorching sun. We were too involved with our DMs and noticed late that the group after us was getting in to be seated, to which my wife pointed out to the newly arrived hostess that we came in before them. The hostess had mentioned that she didn't notice our name was ahead of that group since she had transitioned to do her work shift. Wouldn't you do this first when you arrive, we thought so you wouldn't upset patrons who had been there longer? We got no apology and she had asked us to wait again. Nearly 35 minutes in we were finally shown to our table however due to a large family gathering near us bordering very close to our table and us being mindful of social distancing, we had asked to move to a seperate corner table and under a shade. We had been escorted to that table, sat down and started reviewing the menu, we thought since Joey's had specials from 2-5pm and it was close to 5pm so summonning our waitress was a priority and we wanted to order our appetizers right away. To our surprise, the same hostess who had just transitioned in told us that we couldn't be seated there because it was already reserved. To which we said ok and I quickly pointed out other tables with shade and she said that they were all reserved by the friends of the owner and manager which was contradictory to what I got when I called in. I told her I thought that there were no reservations at all! She directed us to sit in the second make shift patio facing the bank. However we protested that we waited 35 minutes just to be seated at the real Joey's patio under the shade. We were shown two tables in the make shift patio to which I replied that a couple was getting up from another table on the Joey's patio which had shade and we prefered that instead. The second hostess agreed and after escorting us to the table and already seated, that same hostess told our waitress that this table was also reserved. (BTW this table only got seated after 13 minutes) We insisted to be seated on the Joey's side and we ended up sitting near the patio entrance where from time to time, social distancing was not being followed between those standing waiting for a table and those sitting. We reminded some waiting patrons not too be to close or to lean into the backside of our bench seats. The coup de grace was when two ladies were seated to the next table and they quickly asked if they can move to the first table where we were kicked out from. That hostess quickly said yes and yet she knew that we had just been there less than 5 minutes ago and she had told us a different story. We were already frustrated and now we were truly upset. We waited over 45 minutes by the time we got our first drinks and we were moved to 6 different tables by the time we finally sat. We wanted to speak to the manager and she mentioned again that she forgot about us as she rolled her eyes. Still no apology. Tyler, Joey's manager, was super accommodating, apologetic and understanding completely opposite of our worst experience from a hostess ever. Our waitress Sam was equally nice. However the whole experience with that hostess was unforgiving and we didn't enjoy one bit of our time. We would look over from time to time towards that hostess who was indifferent and under her direction, patrons already seated at the Joey's side of the patio moved around when they asked her. I counted at least three couples! But we were told by her that we couldn't move around from any of the table we were shown due to social distancing. Tyler offered to pay for everything which was great (tx again) however it didn't take away the bad taste we had already. It carried throughout our dinner. We left very frustrated and forgot to give a tip to our waitress (of which we will return soon to give it to her). We just wanted to leave. Our bad experience stemmed from that one person, it doesn't reflect at all the wonderful people and the impeccable service we had had over the years( we celebrated our birthdays at Joey's, had family and friends gatherings, had office lunches, etc. over five years of our patronizing). We only hope that at least at the Lansdowne Joey's location, they can work out the kinks for the patio. Openly make it known that there are discretionary reservations being made. More importantly that all employees of Joey's especially it's hosts and hostesses treat all patrons with understanding and equally. . read more

Location: Near the Byward Market. I'm not too sure about the parking situation since I went on a Sunday and parking is free on weekends. We did park a few blocks away and walked over. The place: The restaurant is quite big and also has outdoor seating. Decor is dark and somewhat dimly lit and despite its size, it kind of gave me a lounge vibe. In my opinion, Joey's are managing the COVID restrictions pretty well; you're given hand sanitizer before you go in and asked for your name and contact info. In the event that a COVID case is detected, someone will call you. We sat indoors, and every second table was out of service, ensuring that the 2M rule was respected. Staff were wearing masks. The goods: I ordered a frozen lemonade and the tuna poke bowl. The lemonade was really good but warning for the faint of heart: it is TART! The poke bowl was delicious - tuna, fried wontons, avocado, brown rice. The portion was also quite big and I had a hard time eating the whole thing. The dishes that my friends ordered were equally appreciated. Everything seemed fresh. Service: Great - everyone was friendly! I need to come here a couple more times to be sure about the rating. It is a great looking space with fancy decorations yet with an intimate feel and a lot of good and professional looking staff with nice uniforms. The menu is somewhat similar to Milestone's or Moxies but with some interesting twists. My friend and I tried the Korean Fried Cauliflower and were impressed. It tasted like chicken nuggets. It could have been a little spicier. My friend ordered fish tacos which she thought were tasty and fresh. I had the salmon rice bowl which was tasty. The rice was very nice- the plump, round and sticky kind. The stir fry vegetables were fine. The wine menu is extensive. There are some interesting cocktails too. Overall, the place has cachet and reminded me of a Joey I went to in Vancouver. It is a notch above the Milestone or Moxie's in terms of food quality and menu selection. I'll be coming back. Ridiculously good food, service and a gorgeous restaurant but be prepared to cough up some cash. Went for lunch. The place is very nice - open kitchen, comfortable booths, very hip - but it's dark. I think I'd enjoy the ambiance more at night. I'm not crazy about dark places at lunch but that's just me. I was so impressed with the menu. They've got one of the best you'll ever come across. I swear I tasted the best mushroom soup I've ever had. I also had the salmon bowl and it was exquisite. Husband had the poke bowl also a winner. Super nice waiter. Lunch for 3 was 75 with no drinks and not including the tip. If I had an expense account, I'd be there all the time! read more
