    Outdoor patio

It was a beautiful day to enjoy the nice patio! The service was great but the food and drink was even better. We shared a beached fish bowl drink and it tasted so good! I normally don't like alcoholic drinks but you could not taste it, it just tasted like blue candy (I think it might be a little dangerous!) The burger was so juicy and fresh, I managed to devour it quite quickly. The fries were nothing special but they got the job done, haha. Definitely looking forward to coming back especially for a girls night to share some more or their signature fish bowl drinks!!

I love Jack astors it is my favourite restaurant and their food is amazing. My dad used to through a big Party there on New year's eve. The location is great, with many other restaurants around but Jack astors is the best. "Sorry, we're Open"

Drinks and Appetizers. During the reopening stages of the Coronavirus pandemic - patio only. Enjoying a delightful evening in Landsdowne for the night, We ordered the crispy calamari and lobster dip along with some drinks. The crispy calamari consisted of the smallest pieces of squid known to man in a delicious deep fry batter. I'm a man that would rather have fewer large pieces of calamari than tiny bits and pieces. Nonetheless it was delightful. The lobster dip was the real deal. It was certainly expecting the classic frozen-thawed-premade lobster dip most restaurants opt for. I was astounded to taste such a scrumptious creamy dip that screamed homemade. Served with pita bread and tortilla chips. A lobster dip that takes first place in my experience. Compliments to the chef. Amazing date night!

Really great service and amazing food! I've been to a couple of other jackastors around the GTA but I found the Ottawa location is much better for quality! We got our food piping hot and it wasn't too long of a wait. Super crispy, and juicy chicken, absolutely enjoyed every bite.

Memphis with a bit too many fried onions, but still delicious.

So I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure whether I should leave this review a 3 or 4 stars. Let me explain..this might be lengthy. We decided to come to Jack Astor's on a Friday night the day they were lighting the tree at Landsdowne. So, we expected the surrounding places to be packed and made reservations. We didn't have to wait long to be seated despite there being a pretty large lineup at the door. Once seated, we got our drink orders in and began deciding what we'd eat. Our drinks took some time, but it wasn't too bad of a wait. Again, we knew the place was jam packed, so we were prepared. We ordered our food and that's when it went downhill. Let's just say, thank goodness Jack Astor's provides crayons at every table. My boyfriend and I were extremely hungry and had to wait over an HOUR for our food to arrive. Okay, it's a Friday and it's a night where the restaurant should have been expecting more people than usual due to the tree lighting. The couple next to us were waiting forever too and were visibly upset, because they were going to miss their movie. We were really hoping not to have to finish our drinks before the food came, but I was nearly done mine and it was hitting me on my empty stomach. At about the 40-minute mark, we asked our waiter what was going on and he apologized saying that the dishes weren't going to be ready for another 10-15 Minutes and asked if we wanted to cancel... what?? Obviously we said no and decided to keep waiting. He was kind enough to offer us some tortilla chips while we waited, but those took forever as well and they came with a nice chipotle sauce and mayo...ew. Anyway, we devoured those very quickly. At about an hour, we couldn't hold it and finally asked someone passing by to see when our items would come out. Finally our food came and honestly, it was delicious. We both ordered steaks. I had the Memphis and my bf had the bourbon. My steak was done perfectly and it tasted incredible, as did the sides. My bf felt the same about his. So, this is where my dilemma is with the stars. Though the food was great, our waiter was really good...the wait-time was absurd. Our waiter finally told us that they had a few new holiday chefs come in, which resulted in a back-up of orders. Unfortunate and poor timing by management, but in no way our waiter's fault. Therefore, I'm giving this place 4 stars for now, as I definitely think I'll be back for steaks and their amazing blue raspberry lemonade. However, I really hope I won't have to wait over an hour to receive my food next time.

I am a long time JA lover it was my first time at this location and I was deeply impressed. The look of the restaurant alone is amazing but what gets the 5 star the most is the amazing service . Our server was will, and he was very knowledgeable but incredibly down to earth. My meals are always quite particular because I am vegan and the DM Andrew came out and showed me the exact ingredients in a bread i wanted, and told me how it's prepared . Andrew went above an beyond and both him and will are most definetly The food and sangria is obviously to die for also

YUMM. This place was great! The food was wonderful, the service was excellent and the drinks were cheap! Best tip about this place: they have outdoor seating, but tvs are only inside.

It's nice without being pretentious. Not much has changed since I was here last, which was about 7 years back, and before that, 15 years back? I was in town to see friends and chose this place. We grabbed apps (fries, curly fries, and deep fried pickles). The food is still pretty good, but the regular fries are much better than the curly ones and the pickles were tasty. All three are very small servings for $10 each or $9 each when you order two. The tables are still in good shape and the vibe is good. The service is a mish mash. First, we had Sarah. She was the highlight of the service night. Attentive, friendly, professional and able to switch gears from small chat about her team the Oilers to what the best IPA they had was, and came by to check on us regularly. The next server wasn't around much, and forgot items, then we got Lee (I think I got that name wrong) who was also a total pro. The staff seem really good except for that one in the middle and I think overall their staff is really good. Not sure I get all the 3 stars, but I don't live in the city anymore and my experience is limited at this place. Overall, I'd say go!

We arrived in Ottawa on our road trip and decided to find a nearby place to eat. We stopped at the Clocktower Brew Pub and were warmly greeted by staff and had our choice of seating. Our server was Sean/Shawn, a friendly man who offered custom drinks, and helped us choose our "sharing" options. He was very enthusiastic and friendly, making our table chuckle at his jokes quite a few times. Sadly the Chef that works at this location didn't come in so the manager of another location came to cook so everything was slower to come out of the kitchen. On top of that, once we got our entrees I was salivating at the mouth to try their Thai Peanut Bowl but they closed off the kitchen because of the persons exhaustion. Not anywhere near the closing time. The plus of this evening was we got a free drink that was originally forgotten because of staff confusion. The pirogies I ordered to share with another group member wasn't filling or appetizing. Definitely going back to the hotel and ordering at least a piece of toast to eat. That was really disheartening after the six hour drive from Quebec to here, and enjoying the lovely environment and vibe of the restaurant. It was not their fault though, the staff present weren't responsible for this issue, but it's still saddening.

We have many great memories here! And this has nothing to do with the staff - they've always been wonderful But the quality in the food over the last 6 months had dropped off a cliff. The portion sizes have shrunk to a pathetic level yet the price keeps going up. Even their pogos had the pogo logo on the stick (two for $9) clearly taken frozen out of the box. I keep ordering different items hoping it will be better but it's worse and worse. My fish tonight was the size of a kids crayons and the meal was $16. Get it together Clocktower

Their "Non-Beer" is mostly wine, and soda pop. They have some hard liquor, but it's limited (and just the regular vodka, rum, whiskey, etc. no liqueurs or anything fancy. I asked if they had sour mix and they said no, so I'm guessing they only mix with soda pop). Food menu is small. I came with some beer lovers. They had beers. I wanted a whiskey sour, but they couldn't make it, so I got a non-alcoholic drink (root beer). I'm not going to fault the place for this because their focus is obviously beer. The place is kind of small. They have some TVs with sports streaming. They had a really big screen that showed the menu. I thought that was weird. Why didn't they show sports on that screen? We already have the menu in front of us, lol. We got a basket of fries ($5). They were shoestring fries and really good, although a bit too overly salted. Their menu looked interesting, but we already ate before coming. Our server was nice and friendly. She seemed to feel bad that I couldn't find a drink that I liked. She even gave me a sample of some raspberry sour beer to try. I didn't like it, but not her fault, and at least she tried. I think this would be a cool place to hang out for beer lovers.

The mozzarella sticks were ok (need to be more crispy), and the cauliflower had a bit too much sauce. However, the food is generally tasty, but it's a hit or miss. At first glance, the place is a bit cramped and chaotic, with minimal counter service and not much signage to help you out. But once you get the flow, it's straightforward. The menu is tight: Burgers, Fries, and Shrimp. That's it! There was a line out the door, which usually means good things. The small Asian lady working the grill was super nice and honestly seemed like the only one who had a handle on things. The burger joint itself is a haze of burger grease and onions--smells great while you're there, but be warned: you'll carry it with you the rest of the day. Food-wise, it's solid. The smash burger had a great crisp with a chipotle mayo or ranch-style sauce. Fries were better than average. I didn't try the shrimp, but people around me seemed happy with it. Now, the not-so-great part: they couldn't process any of my U.S. credit cards. That was awkward. My total was $23 CAD, so I just handed over $30 USD and told them to keep the change. Could've avoided the mess by ordering through Uber Eats (assuming you want to use a card). Bottom line: The food is worth it, but the payment situation and setup could be smoother. The Long Version: I've been meaning to try Smash Daddy since they started their food truck on Preston St, but never got around to it. Then on a Sunday in February we were walking around downtown and checking out Winterlude and came across this Smash Daddy location. It's an actual restaurant (not a food truck), but is mostly takeout. They have 7 stools along a counter if you want to eat-in, but it's a bit snug. My husband and I got the original Smash Daddy ($13) to-go to share. It's 2 smashed beef patties, 2 slices of cheese, pickles, onions and Smash Daddy sauce in a buttered brioche bun. It was delicious. My first time having smashed burgers. I like my burgers well done, so this style is to my liking. I liked the crispy edges. I found the price a bit high for just a burger, but those are the prices everywhere these days :( Service was pleasant. There's really no decor to speak of. You go there for the food, not the ambiance, haha. Happy to see this business expanding. They have 3 locations now. I think 2 food trucks and this restaurant. Street parking only. Review #60 (2025)
