just wanted to share some feedback about my visit to your bar at Lansdowne off Bank Street yesterday afternoon. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. Our server did an outstanding job managing our large group of around 50 people all on his own. However, I later found out from my colleagues that the bill already included a gratuity. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of that at the time and added an additional 20-22% tip. While I don't mind tipping for good service, I was a bit disappointed to learn about the automatic gratuity only afterward. We popped in for a couple drinks and a snack following an event and found the atmosphere to be comfortable and the staff to be very pleasant. This place is huge, has an extensive beer menu and very good food menu (although expensive). However despite that we found the service somewhat lacking. Perhaps it was on account of being a Sunday afternoon, but we had to sit at the bar even though most of the tables were empty, and our bartender kept changing. They seemed to come and go, and not return when you needed them! Beer wise, I was hoping for more of a seasonal selection this time of year, i.e. some darker beer such as a stout or porter to suit the cold weather. The Calabogie brown did the job but there wasn't much else in that category. They have plenty of nice fruity pale ales and other summery beers. These are all minor gripes compared to what follows. Unfortunately they did not inform us (or other customers around us) about the HAPPY HOUR specials. There was a small menu of heavily discounted drinks and food that I discovered hidden off to the side! It runs every afternoon and all day Sunday. Had been recommended that I check out Craft Brunch for some time now as friends said they served a delicious weekend brunch for a very fair price. I had the breakfast poutine with bacon and eggs which was a very good size and very delicious - I'm often disappointed by these dishes as they tend to serve you way too much food and you get uncomfortably full after it but this was the perfect size. I had dinner here recently with some fellow Yelpers. We were a group of 7. Overall, the place was good. The place is huge. I think I heard it seats 500 people (including the patio). And there are over 100 beers on tap. I'm not a beer drinker, so not so much of a pull for me in that regard. They apparently have a lot of local beers and unusual stuff. The space is large and open concept, with an open kitchen (and we were seated right in front of it). It's very clean and modern looking. Service was excellent. Our server was very friendly and she checked up on us often. I had the Green Goddess Salad ($17.50). It had spinach, kale, cucumbers, green chickpeas (which is the hottest trend now, essentially young chickpeas), roasted broccoli, Brussels sprouts and grilled chicken. It usually comes with an avocado and basil dressing but the server said that that contained sesame seeds, which I can't eat, so she suggested we substitute for the chili lime dressing instead, which we did. The salad was a good size, although still a bit pricey for $17.50 in my opinion. There was so much dressing on the salad -- way too much for my liking. The chicken was also a strange texture to me, like a bit rubbery and "squeaky." Other than these 2 things, it was pretty good. I loved the green chickpeas, and I like how it had a lot of healthy ingredients. I think it could benefit from some crunch in the form of nuts, pumpkin seeds, or something crispy though. I also had a kombucha (from Culture Kombucha which is brewed here in Ottawa, yay local!). The flavour they had (it changes regularly) was ginger. It was good, but I found the ginger flavour too subtle and it had this slight unfortunate aroma of stinky feet. I've had my fair share of kombucha, and I have never had one with this stinky feet scent, so I don't know what was going on there. I will have to try more kombucha from this company to see if that was just an anomaly in that batch or if all their kombucha has that aroma. Yes, CRAFT is a mega chain, but at least it's a Canadian mega chain (from Calgary), lol. I think this place would be very cool for beer enthusiasts, especially those who like microbreweries. We started by ordering a flight of beer - the World Tour Six Pack Sampler, which has different beers from around the world. This was a great variety and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try new beers without committing to a full pint. My friend and I were really indecisive about what food we wanted. We both wanted a burger and were eyeing the 20 Napkin Burger, but didn't think we could finish one each ourselves, so we decided to split it. Honestly not the best item to split since it's so messy, but super filling and cheaper than getting a burger each. It's a double patty with brisket, bacon, cheese sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a brioche bun, garnished with a mini burger and served with a side of fries. It was cooked really well, on the less done side like I like it, but if you're a slow eater like me, you risk your bread getting all soggy. The food and drinks were better than your average bar, though I wish we had more attentive service. We had to ask for water multiple times, more napkins, and kept having to flag her down throughout the night, since she either didn't come to our table or only served one person from our party at a time before running off. Decided to stop by for some drinks and apps after visiting the farmers market this past Sunday. Got to check out the patio this time and it was nice and quiet, only a couple of tables out there. Our group of three got a nice corner seat, but lacked an umbrella which would have be nice so that we had some shade. Ordered the fish tacos and they were actually pretty good. I loved that the flour tortillas were grilled, and the fish was pretty awesome. Also had the poutine and that was also really good. The hubby and I split the poutine and the waitress was awesome by splitting the poutine into to bowls for us. I know, it is a chain and the foodie in me wants to support local businesses and unique food experiences as much as possible and I do! This place is one of my favourite chain restaurant with lots of beer options as well as children friendly options. The beer selection is the first thing to highlight. There is over 100 beers on tap! There is a tube system that ensures that even if the keg is open, the beer is sealed and remains fresh. The wine is also tapped the same way. It makes a huge difference. The food is also among the best in the Landsdowne park complex. There is a wide and eclectic selection with some fun Asian influence (tuna poke bowl, curry, sushi burgers) and quality mains such as squash raviolis or crispy chicken sandwiches. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and was really impressed. The usual sides (fries, soup or salad) can be substituted with mac and cheese or Poutine (although at a fairly high addition). The mac and verse is beautiful though. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Not a big fan of this place. I'm not a big drinker but they're known for local craft beers. I've tried their happy hour menus and I am really disappointed. Our server was honest telling us to get the Hawaiian poke as a full appetizer instead of the Happy Hour version. You save a dollar but that's it. The poke bowl tasted like fish sauce and salty. We ordered the kale margarita flatbread as well. That one was soggy and salty. It was something that we wouldn't order again. We also had the craft burger with fries. We've gotten to know a few servers by name and even one of the managers goes out of his way to say "hello" to us. This place offers "Hoppy Hour" every single day from 3 pm to 6 pm and ALL DAY on Sunday. All local craft beers are $4 (usually $6.75). Where else can you get a deal like that?! Nowhere! We've tried several (if not all) of the local beers on tap, including some rotating taps. My go-to local beer is Two Flags IPA by Dominion City. The food is decent. One of four beers arrived - one they didn't have - re-order - another wait - very little wine for those of us who didn't want beer. At least 1/2 hour to get a beer and menus! Meals came, no cutlery, no water. Bills came - we were charged for four beers instead of two, server took the bill and brought it back with three beers instead of two. Third time lucky! I really enjoyed our trip to CRAFT. We came in as a group of Yelpers and were offered some $5 off coupons to help celebrate their new menu. Hubby tried the new chicken burger and I went for the blue cheese and bacon burger, with a pint each. Both meals were very yummy but I must say that I was not a huge fan of the seasoning on the sweet potato fries - they are good as is, they didn't need the extra flavour and sauce as well. The ambiance was that of a modern beer house - kegs in the back room behind glass windows, and a windowed view into the kitchen. A very transparent image for what they do, which I really liked! But once I spotted Fish Tacos on the menu, my mind was made up! They have an appetizer size for about $14, and meal sized for about $16.75 - to which they add a salad. The waitress asked if I'd like to top it up with avocado for an extra $2 and I agreed. In the end, the tacos were ok / only good, but there was not enough fish in them. And I'll have to remember that I do not like lime on my fish! Besides, I am always comparing with my favourite fish tacos, from Tacofino in Vancouver! No, this was not that; in fact, for the fish tacos alone, this place would garner only 3 stars (sorry!!) But overall the experience was good. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, and the salads were great! Mine was full of those unusual greens (I'm comparatively boring at home - I like Boston lettuce), and had bits of pear in it; the dressing was good without being overpowering. The service was pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. Be prepared to pay generally more than average; it's not cheap, but it's worth it. The one odd thing that made me uncomfortable was the appearance of things dangling from the open-space ceiling in the ladies room. One looked like a camera - but if it was, it shouldn't have bee placed where it was, looking into one of the stalls. We hit up Craft Beer Market this evening with some friends who said that they were fans. Never having been there, we figured okay let's check this place out. Good: they had lots of beers to choose from, their menu was vegetarian friendly (for my wife) and the rest of the menu was pretty broad with some interesting items that sounded good. Bad: they serve beer not by the pint but rather the half pint - super painful. Their food was mediocre st best. My ribs were dry, the chicken was bland and over cooked and my wife's "power bowl" was more of an overcooked bowl with a side of salt. Ugly: service was brutal. I get it they were busy but our server was not attentive at all, was borderline rude, and made no attempt to provide decent service. I have no idea why the place was packed. We ordered the Nashville Hot Cauliflower, Fried Pickles, Baja Fish Tacos and the Mexicali Flatbread off the happy hour menu and the Mediterranean Power Bowl off the main menu. The Hot Cauliflower was very spicy - don't attempt if you can't handle spice!! Fried pickles were delish and accompanied with a nice ranch dip. The fish tacos and power bowl were also a hit! Our server was very friendly however at times very distracted and slow. We have been here a couple of times. The first time my boyfriend and I had dinner with friends. I had the ravioli and he had the mac and cheese. We both weren't very impressed. The mac and cheese was watery and not very cheesy and the butternut squash ravioli lacked flavor. The beer selection is extensive. I love the Rodenbach sour. It's so delicious and CRAFT is the only place in Ottawa that I've seen it on the menu. My boyfriend got the World Tour flight and he really enjoyed it. We would go back for the beer selection but weren't impressed with the food. More recently we had the salt and pepper wings, they were okay but very pricey. We asked for ranch sauce to eat with them and it never came. Great for beers, still not sold on the food. Parking in the arena is paid street parking or underground paid parking. I went three times around CityFolk. Their beer selection is excellent, and they have "happy hour" every night after 9pm and all day on Sunday with $4 beer. That is excellent. The food is good but not spectacular and I find it a bit overpriced for what it is, but not really surprising given the neighbourhood it is in. The local competition will be similar. I was disappointed in the service all three times though. They paid little attention to me, didn't check in on me, and let my glass go dry. We were with a big group of friends and my baby son. Because he's too young to eat adult food, we brought his own baby food and asked if they could help microwave his food for us. The girls at the front said they didn't have one, so I asked for some hot water. After a few seconds of not responding (what restaurant doesn't have hot water?), the waitstaff went to go check for us, only to come back and say outside food was not allowed even if it's for a baby. After waiting for an hour we were going to stay, but kept getting attitude from the waitstaff. On top of that, we were told that a booster seat would take longer, but there were no other babies around taking up any other booster seat. Being a parent is hard enough already with preparing our baby's food, carrying around all his gear. All we wanted to do was relax and enjoy a beer. So, it seems that rule #1 when going to CRAFT is to NOT ask the server what they have on tap. And with over... 100 beers? I can see why. (And, no, I didn't ask as they have a menu to go over all the beers they have). And this is probably a good segue to CRAFT's probably two main strengths, their beer and their service. BEER As noted, they have a plethora of choices for beer. I think the only other place I have been that has that many choices is L'Autre Oeil in Aylmer (which probably has more). What's nice with CRAFT was their desire to try to find something by giving you samples. I don't know if our situation was unique but I had one friend who didn't quite know what they wanted to drink. The waitress inquired as to his likes and proceeded to bring numerous samples until he found one he liked. The free samples also get recorded on your bill so you can use it as a guide to remember what you liked and don't like. FOOD On the food side, things were a bit more mixed. We started with an order of nachos which we all enjoyed. Not so good were the fish tacos I ordered which were overly bland. The night we went had fish tacos on special and there were loads of them being brought to tables. When we left, we talked to servers at reception and they said they had heard people weren't too happy with the fish tacos so hopefully they'll change their recipe. The others at our table ordered burgers and a steak sandwich. Visually these looked quite good and the impression was that they were decent. SERVICE As mentioned, the service around the beer was quite good. We did find the waiting a bit long though which could be too many tables for our particular server. AMBIENCE What can I say, it has really high ceilings and mostly bar stool style seating and if you arrive early, this is where they try to seat people. This was a bit of a negative for me as I'm not a big fan of those tables and chairs but they do have regular tables in the outlining areas. Noise level is a bit high but maybe it is quieter in the table seating areas. OTHER - PARKING Being at Lansdowne, parking can be difficult. If you park in the main parking garage on site, CRAFT doesn't validate your parking. If you need some groceries afterwards though, you can go over to Whole Foods and buy a few things as I think they validate if you have $20 worth of purchases. Your other options are to find street parking on the streets off of Bank. You'll eventually find something even if it involves a bit longer of a walk to the restaurant. ---- All in all, I enjoyed the place and would go back again. read more

This is a great spot on a Sunday cause there's lots of patio space and even the inside is massive, with a great "happy hour" menu on Sunday we got to try the tacos (chicken and fish), I preferred the fish cause it was cooked beautifully and tasted fresh. Went here with a group of 18 for a birthday. Maybe because it's new, they do not take resos for Friday or Saturday nights, so going with such a big group was a gamble. Luckily, since the place is so huge, we didn't have to wait too long to get a table. The restaurant is huge and very nice looking. A massive bar in the middle, huge windows hat open up to Bank street on a nice day. A bright, and bustling environment. A couple of service issues -- main dishes came out before appetizers were done. Plates not cleared away, so table was crammed. My main was the lone forgotten dish, which meant that most of our table was done eating before I even got my food. That being said, I was surprised, given the size of the restaurant and our group, how quickly the food jhat did come, came out. Friends ordered the nachos to start which looked very impressive when they arrived (they're served on the lid of a keg), but were underwhelming -- very expensive (around $20, maybe more with the chicken), and not nearly enough 'stuff' on them. I tried the korean lettuce wraps (decent), and had the Brewmasters chicken sandwich (pretty tasty) with the chai spinach salad (overdressed but yummy with interesting ingredients). I'm told the ahi tuna poke was very good, the salmon was delicious, and the charcuterie board looked quite nice. Side note: they offer a neat birthday deal -- for the birthday person, they take your age (in percentage form) off your bill (not including alcoholic beverages). I can't comment much on the beer offerings except that they had a billion of them, and the Erdinger non-alcholoic, which is my fave; though it was a little pricey at $6-7. I awoke suddenly to the unmistakable smell of vomit. It became clear that my sleeping toddler had thrown up all over her blanket. My first instinct was of course deep concern for her well-being, but immediately thereafter came a sudden wave of realization and regret. Regret that I hadn't heeded the warning signs during our dinner that night at Craft Beer Market, Ottawa. Five hours earlier, we had hurried in the door of the restaurant and headed straight for the washrooms, to accommodate my toddler's tiny bladder. We walked into the men's room, I helped her do her business, then to the sink to wash up. After multiple failed attempts to find a functioning soap pump, I realized that there was no soap to be had; the germophobe in me wondered how many people before us had failed to wash their hands properly. In retrospect, my critical mistake in this situation was that I didn't abide by my own golden rule: never eat at a restaurant that doesn't have soap in the bathrooms. This may seem like a minor issue but is typically a red flag. Thus began the comedy of errors that was my experience at Craft Beer Market, Ottawa. Three employees (one Male and 2 female including a manager) and over ten minutes later, I still hadn't had the opportunity to wash my hands, or my daughter's, with soap. And of course neither of the hand dryers were working. But nevertheless I decided, for whatever reason, to stay and order drinks and food. The second red flag came a few minutes later when my daughter's mac and cheese showed up disturbingly quickly, before the drinks in fact. (A few hours later, as I stared at that same macaroni in vomit form, I kicked myself for being too complacent). While my daughter's confirmed case of food poisoning was of course the central issue here, other highlights of my Craft Beer Market, Ottawa experience included: - The manager laughing at me when I asked if a female employee could quickly put some soap in the dispenser in the empty men's washroom, as no male employees were available; - The obnoxiously loud (featuring airhorns) private DJd event at the restaurant, which included a full PA system cranking hard rock that competed gratingly with the already more than sufficient house background music (our third server of the night confirmed that this was confusing to staff as well); - The parting words of the front of house hostess as I left, who puzzlingly told me: "Don't worry, I still believe in you" which I could only assume was some sort of reference to my daughters Pink Paw Patrol backpack I was currently wearing. After this dreadful experience, I fully believe one thing: everything I witnessed that evening showcased the systemic mismanagement at Craft Beer Market, Ottawa, which ended up making my daughter sick. In my lifetimes experience of the restaurant industry (including a stint living in a pub as a child, working at multiple restaurants, and taking part in almost every aspect of the service industry), this was by far the worst example of gross incompetence within a restaurant that I've ever had the misfortune to experience. (Even worse than the time I had to kill a mouse in the stockroom of a major Canadian restaurant with my bare hands.) I witnessed a sickness within the walls of Craft beer Market, Ottawa that I can only assume starts at the very top. Unfortunately, on the night of Thursday, September 28th, that sickness bled all the way down into a 4 year olds bowl of mac and cheese. Our group of hockey friends were looking for a place to enjoy Ottawa Senators hockey on a big screen along with a few beers and pub food. You would think a place like this would be perfect - well think again!!! Six of us arrived this week to watch the return of Brady T., and while the server was awesome, the best they could do was show TSN best of - No Sens Hockey!! Guys if you want us to come you have to show the home team come on! We left and were told that at least another 18 people had asked for the game, that's 24 people out the door of a pretty big and empty pub!!! read more
