It was our last night in Ottawa and I wanted to check out a local dive bar, so Thr33's Company Snackbar seemed like the perfect choice. I showed up around 8:00 on a Tuesday and the place was impressive packed, but I nevertheless managed to snag a spot at the bar. After looking at the menu for a few minutes, I noticed a heavy emphasis on gin, so I figured I should probably stick to that. They even have a gin cocktail on tap (which, on that night, was a Lime Rickey), so obviously I went with that. It was seriously delicious. I felt like I should probably get some food, too, and my server recommended the Triple B ("BEEF-BROCCOLI-BRIE / pan fried striploin / broccoli / brie sauce"). It arrived a short time later and it's okay. The big issue is that the beef was a little on the tough side, but beyond that the dish was just lacking in strong, delicious flavors. I didn't let that disappointment stop me from ordering a Gin Flight (local), though. I've never seen a gin flight on a menu before, so I really had no choice. The four offerings were all delicious, but my favorite was the Dunrobin. Aside from that less-than-memorable dish, I loved spending time at Thr33's. It's just such a cool place.

A super cute spot on Bank Street just past the Queensway. Lots of delicious drink options and interesting cocktails - I also really liked the mango cocktail on tap! The food are sharing plates - my friends and I got a selection to share. So the food itself tastes great but wow, these plates were really small for the price point... Scallop - cooked perfectly but only came with two pieces. Turkey meatball - great sauce but I felt like the turkey could have been grilled more. Crispy tofu - they use a firm tofu and it had a good crisp. Mushrooms - star of the show, I loved this dish! Pork belly - felt like it could use more flavor. I didn't care for the carrot on top. Halloumi - very nice served warm, the blueberry in top added an interesting flavor profile. Cake in a jar - something about this dessert was off. Something was bitter - maybe the way the yuzu paired with the cream cheese? The bottom Oreo cookie layer was good, the middle not so much. Cookies - nice and warm!

Southern hush puppies

Came here on a late Wednesday evening for some small bites and drinks. We were greeted by a friendly server and had our pick of tables. The music is good here and not too loud. We ordered some drinks, the Southern hush puppies, frog legs and drumsticks. Both the hush puppies and drumsticks were on special that night for the late night crowd (9pm-2am). For that price, pretty great value. The hush puppies were pretty ordinary and I would've preferred a bit more sea salty/briney flavour since there's clams in it. The sauce it came with was very dilly and fresh though. Drumsticks were fried nicely but I felt that the seasoning didn't penetrate through the chicken and relied heavily on the peanut sauce that could be a bit more savoury. Favourite dish of the night was the frog legs. Surprisingly meaty frog legs with spot on seasoning, a nice smoky grill flavour and topped with some fresh greens and a tasty yuzu sauce. I hardly ever see this kind of dish in Ottawa so I appreciate the bold move and flavours.

Snack bar is the best! I have been here many many times and I always enjoy it. The menu has something for everyone and it's a perfect spot to share several plates with friends or for date night. The food is always extremely delicious and elevated but still very good value in my opinion. They also have different gin and tonics on tap which is amazing.

I was SO stoked to finally visit the Moonroom after seven or so years of wanting to go!…read more After a Saturday night at Bluesfest, we waited somewhere else for about half an hour before they told us the kitchen was backed up, so we walked down Preston and I was so glad the Moonroom was still open. We didn't get there until about 12:30am and it was pretty full. We didn't leave until maybe 2:30am and it was still pretty full considering the time. They're not normally open this late, but it seems like a lot of the businesses on Preston decided to stay open later to catch the post-Bluesfest crowd. Good call! We decided to sit inside since there was an empty table, otherwise I would've liked to sit out on their back patio, which looked really pretty with the lights. Inside was a nice vibe though, too. It's small/narrow, dimly lit, with sheets covering the different coloured ceiling lights, and candles on the table. It's very intimate and pretty romantic. We sat close to the bar and there was another party of two beside us. The music was a bit louder so we couldn't really hear the other table's conversations, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. They were playing the Bee Gees when we walked (danced) in, so we were really about the jams. My husband got a rotating draught IPA by Daft Brewing, can't remember which one it was. I got the Jill Collins, which had Tanqueray Gin, Affino Limone, fresh lemon and mint, cane syrup, and a Moon soda top. It was super refreshing, bright, and not too sweet, which is exactly what I wanted. We shared/I mostly ate the "OG Grilled Cheese" and "Panzanella-esque Salad". The grilled cheese had aged Balderson and cream cheeses in a crunchy baguette smothered in toasted garlic butter, served with Moon ketchup. It was exactly as described, with very crunchy, buttery garlic bread and creamy cheese. The Moon ketchup is made in-house, thinner and chunkier than processed, store-bought ketchup, with stronger flavours. It was okay, but I didn't need to dip much in the ketchup because I really enjoyed the sandwich and it was on the saltier side itself. Because it was a lot creamier than gooey, I'd say it was more of a sandwich than a grilled cheese, but still very tasty. I really am not a huge fan of salad in general, but I can't complain when it was burrata on top. It also had salty bread, arugula, roasted tomatoes, fresh peaches, herbs, and honey. The peaches were more firm than ripe and juicy, which was good for a salad, though I wish they were a bit sweeter. The burrata wasn't creamy inside like I expected, but I love cheese in any form. I really don't know what possessed me to get salad, especially after a bunch of drinks in the wee hours of the night, but my body thanked me later. Salty, bitter, a little sweet, fresh, and not heavy, even with (more) bread and cheese. It was great. They unfortunately ran out of the affogato, which probably would've convinced my husband to stay longer. Too bad. The vegan dark chocolate gelato from Farinella that they put in it sounded amazing. The beer was $10.50, my cocktail was $19, grilled cheese $16, and salad $17, which was pricey. BUT, the fresh herbs are from their garden on the back patio, they make their own soda and ketchup (among other things), everything was delicious, and even late at night the cocktails and dishes were still well put together and tasted great, plus I finally came here after so long. No regrets! Our server was super nice, same with owner and one of the bartenders, who even popped over and sat with us for a bit to chat. And not in a weird/creepy/in-your-face way lol she was cool. She was the one who greeted us when we came in and said bye to us on our way out. There's no flash photography (I forgot to turn my auto flash off for my salad, sorry!). They're open all week from 5pm to 2am, no reservations, no large groups, and no phone (just stop by). I wasn't sure if it would meet the high expectations and hype I had built up in my head after waiting so long to visit, but it totally did. It's such a nice spot, we had an amazing time, and we will definitely be back!

Met some local friends at Stolen Goods and wow!…read more I loved every bit of this experience from the super creative drinks to the super cute raccoon theme found throughout! We sat up on the bar so we got a front row seat to all the magic. I was super impressed when the bartenders told us they kind of shoot from the hip for all their drinks in that they don't test it prior! They'll make small adjustments usually for acidity or sweetness but otherwise, you're basically experimenting alongside with them if it's on a recent menu change! My favorite drink of the night was the drink inspired by green curry. First and foremost, I was so confused when it came out clear! But when you took a sniff, you get the fresh scent of basil with some kaffir lime. On first taste, you also pick up some creaminess with the herbaceous notes which really makes it reminiscent of green curry - but it wasn't?! It was confusing, in a good way. My second favorite (of three) was the fruit loops infused drink. It paid homage to childhood Saturday mornings perfectly with the fruit loops whipped topping and the fruity cocktail underneath. It was a fun and lighthearted drink! My third was a drink featuring honeydew. It's such an underrated flavor because it's so hard to find a GOOD honeydew. In similar fashion, this drink also fell a bit short in the floral, sweet honeydew flavor and the cucumber flavor overpowered the drink. Having said that, the cucumber was really refreshing on such a humid day! All in all, loved the concept, loved the experimenting, and really enjoyed the vibes!

We got the King's ransom, Them's the breaks and Petty Theft. King's ransom came in an adorable pig shaped glass and had a fruity yet very smokey flavour. Them's the breaks was also lovely with some familiar fruity strawberry sweetness and a very interesting Merlot pink salt. Last but not least, Petty Theft was our favourite of the night with familiar SE Asian flavours and the nitrogen meringue experience which you pop in your mouth before sipping the drink. This one was $24 since it's a cocktail with a 72 hour process. This is a great spot if you love trying new drinks. The service is friendly, the music is on point and the overall ambience is perfect for a night out. They also take reservations - I recommend the bar seat.

(Expect 45-1h wait time.) not bad as there are a lot of cute shops around. Both me and my partner got the Belmont breakfast. Has a bit of everything ($23) I gave my partner the bread and got his salad. He said the bread was really good. I really enjoyed my salad nice and fresh not sure what kind of leaves was used. First time I see that shape. Back to salad it was light and a little bit sweet. Potatoes are the next best thing on my plate. I like them he spice that was used, I added a but more salt on mine. The breakfast sausage did not give me heartburn... not guaranteeing anything but worth mentioning. I believe they were lighter in oil simply. My partner always trades them for bacon. I only got a half sausage, he had the rest. The last thing I want to mention is less positive. I usally like breakfast beans. Got excited when I saw the black beans. However, really disappointed nothing more than warmed out black beans. Not what I would expect from breakfast beans. I expect a maple or sugar flavour. You can pay $5 to add to your breakfast... mine came with them but I would skip. Unless unflavoured black bean is your thing.
