This place was recommended to us by the person we were house-sitting for. I can see why. This place has a great indoor space and outdoor space, and on a hot day it was nice to be inside for a bit. Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Servers were really friendly getting us situated with our daughter and the wagon we use to transport her around. Very family friendly as we saw several other parents with strollers as well. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. I was craving a sandwich & I came hoping to have a good one. Service was splendid. The ambiance was very nice (they have a really nice outdoor patio) & the background music was great. Unfortunately, the food was not all that! I expected more. The nachos were OK. The jus dip was bland, the sandwiches were poor in flavor & the fries were overcooked or maybe even preheated. It's Friday, music out side was done by 9:30pm. Empty stage looking sad inside. Karaoke could of taken place inside, stand up comedy could of taken place. Response, Manager said too much effort to get inside stage going. No creativity to increase revenue and to keep people from leaving the Establishment to go elsewhere. I had dinner here with my husband and we really enjoyed it. Food, service and atmosphere were all great. I love that they have Happy Hour 7 days a week. Most places only have it Monday-Friday. We were there on a Saturday. They have selected beers on tap for $3 from 3pm-3:59pm, then $4 from 4pm-4:59pm and $5 from 5pm-6pm. Happy Hour is 3pm-6pm. During this time tacos are also $3 each. I had the Taco Platter with a side salad ($12.95) and my husband had the Canadian Burger with shoestring fries $15.95. For their fries you have the choice of shoestring fries or regular cut fries. I thought this was awesome because I love shoestring fries!! My husband also tried their Greenfields Blonde and Greenfields Amber beers. He thought they were good. So the tacos change daily. Saturday is steak tacos. They usually come with jalapeno peppers and sour cream, but I asked them hold these, so my taco was just steak and pico de gallo. It was still pretty tasty. The steak was good, not tough or chewy and it was done medium well. I love that the taco shells were corn tortillas (not yucky flour tortillas). They held up pretty well and didn't fall apart. The side salad was great. It was real mixed green with carrots, cucumbers, and grape tomatoes. They also sprinkled some fried onions on top which provided a nice crunchy texture. I got the house dressing on the side, which tasted like a Golden Italian dressing. I would love to come back on a Sunday and try their Lobster Tacos! Needless to say, I had some of my husband's fries. They were good, but a tiny bit too crunchy for my taste. I prefer them to be a bit softer on the inside. My husband enjoyed his burger, but it was really juicy and big so he had to eat it with a knife and fork part way through. It had Canadian bacon, cheese, onions and mushrooms in it. I had a tiny taste and it was too greasy/fatty for my liking. I definitely preferred my own meal. Our server was Brendan (or Brandon, sorry I'm not sure which) and he was really nice and attentive and checked up on us appropriately. Most people were on the patio since it was a nice day, but we sat inside so it was quiet in there (which I prefer as I like to be able to have a conversation without having to yell or talk directly into someone's ear). We got a booth so we had more privacy too. This place is a bit tricky to find. It's in the same strip mall as Pharma Plus and Food Basics, but it's behind the back towards Larkin Dr. There's lots of free parking. read more

After a Halloween event where we were outside for hours - I just wanted to have a nice meal near my house. We got to Greenfields - haven't been in a while and I liked it the last time. It was Friday night. There was a band playing. We just wanted to eat. No interest in music. But there was still a cover charge. They wouldn't let us in unless we paid the cover. Fuck me. Can't remember if it was $5 or $10. Either way it was BULLSHIT. Anyway. We paid the bullshit charge and sat down. Cute waitresses. Decent service. Measured drinks. Food was nothing special. Chicken cheesesteak. Fries were good. Wife and the two others we were with (can't remember what they had) but none were overly impressed with their meals. It was fucking loud as hell and I had to pay cover for a band I didn't want to hear. Sorry - that's bullshit. Yeah, I'll still return because I want to support local businesses. We haven't been to Greenfields since the renovation but decided to go today and it was AMAZING. The food was really impressive. I honestly don't think there's anything quite comparable in Barrhaven. I mean I can't say enough about how incredible the food was. I got French onion soup as a starter and the fish tacos as the main with a house salad and both were incredible. I find most restaurants over-salt their French onion soup but this one was perfect and the fish tacos were deliciously tangy and perfectly cooked. My husband got the steak stew in a bread bowl and I tried some and it was phenomenal. ATMOSPHERE: Whoever did the redesign did a fantastic job. It's sort of rustic mixed with industrial, making for a very inviting and warm space. It's too bad they're not more visible from the street. They'd probably be packed every day if they were. Have yet to go at night, interested to see what the Friday night vibe is like. read more

A very decent neighbourhood bar/restaurant located in a mall area in Nepean, the interior is kind of standard, but spacious, with a variety of seating. I was lucky enough to visit on the first decent weekend of the year and thus enjoy the nicely appointed outdoor patio. A fair selection of decent beers, including several local craft offerings and a varied menu, delivering excellent food. If you live within walking distance of this place, you are indeed fortunate to have such a local pub. read more

The good: Atmosphere was great, onion rings were good and my wife really liked the Buffalo chicken wrap. Solid beer selection. The Bad: Service was terrible. Extremely slow and the waiter barely checked in on us. I had to get quite cranky to get things moving. Menu was very odd. Loads of high end meals at $30 plus and then a few standard items in the $13 to $17 range. Very little in between. We have two kids and an hour for chicken fingers is not reasonable. When we got it there were two tiny chicken pieces. I had the burger and it was really dry. I was told they put chorizo in their burger meat which clearly dries the burger out. I'm embarrassed to say I only discovered Greenfields recently and haven't been here yet for dinner or drinks. We were looking for a place to get some late, cheap breakfast before going grocery shopping (yes, I know we could've just made it ourselves). We didn't want to Broadways and Jonny Canuck's was rammed, so we thought we'd head towards Food Basics anyway, and maybe we'd find a place on the way. Greenfields is sort of hidden in the back corner of the same plaza, and has a surprisingly large patio, but has got some outdated decor inside. We didn't quite know what to expect when we walked in, but it wasn't packed and we were seated immediately, which was great because we were getting pretty hangry at this point. We were given the breakfast menu, which I don't think is available online, and my husband and I decided to split the Irish Breakfast plus a medium-poached egg on the side, and our friend ordered the breakfast poutine plus a fried egg on top and a caesar. The caesar came with celery, a green olive, a hot pepper, lemon and lime slices, and a slice of crispy bacon. The orders came with homemade "campfire" beans and both dishes were huge and delicious, especially the poutine, which could have been easily split between two, maybe even three, people. The Irish Breakfast came with coffee and also had three slices of all different kinds of bread - sweet bannock, potato, and house soda breads. I would suggest just eating these with butter or your eggs and bacon, but the homemade strawberry jam is worth a try. The sausages are the plump and juicy kind, not overcooked. The homefries weren't overcooked either, and are made with some cooked chopped onions. With the additional poached egg I ordered, my husband and I were able to split and finish our order and still leave full. Our server was great - funny and personable, in addition to being attentive and just overall competent. We ended up paying about $20, which, between two people, is cheaper than many of the other more popular breakfast places around. We will definitely be back for some drinks and grub! read more

I know it's boring to order a burger but I do think it's a good way to measure the attention to detail a restaurant takes. A good restaurant should be able to make a good burger. This place makes a terrible one. It had a strange texture, more like meatloaf, with flavourings I couldn't place. It was super over-cooked and served on a spongy snow-white bun. Not even the cheese and bacon could salvage this burger. The side salad had little frizzled onions on it which I liked, but it was otherwise ruined by the fact that the lettuce leaves were swimming in a syrupy sweet dressing. I'm usually here at least once a month for Metal Shows. They have great live entertainment, on what is probably one of the nicest stages in ottawa. Really nice to have a place like this to showcase local talent. The food is not greasy pub food either. You can tell the chef takes care to prepare new dishes to the menu. They are also very family oriented during the day. Including having Santa Claus come in December for breakfast. Servers are nice and courteous.
