A neighbourhood pub with local artists' work on the walls and 60's jukebox hits in the air. :) Food was delicious! Loved the Eggplant Parmesan sandwich with sweet potato fries, and my companion enjoyed the Shepard's Pie. Bottomless fountain drinks for the win. Bathroom stalls painted beautifully. Only drawback was the upholstered bench we sat on. The odour was like a grandparent's basement -- a mixture of dust and old cigarettes.

Some great artwork on the walls of this place!

Had the burger and beer Wednesday special. Burger was great and tasty, and was a handmade patty. Servers were very friendly and service was good. Nice selection of Ontario craft beers on tap. I will return the next time I'm in Ottawa.

I was in Ottawa recently and friends coerced us (which I'm glad they did) into going out for some Monday night karaoke at the one and only Atomic Rooster. After a few $5 king cans (Red Stripe)! and some much needed liquid courage a friend and I decided to perform the infamous "Africa" by Toto. As we approached the stage from our semi-hidden back booth I couldn't quite get over how intimate the setting was. The stage is front and center and all eyes are naturally drawn to it. This was definitely a new experience for me as the bulk of my limited karaoke exposure has been in private rooms where singers are all generally acquainted. After calming my nerves with a few timely swigs of Red Stripe enroute to the stage I settled in for an enjoyable rendition of Toto's classic. The acoustics in the Rooster were surprisingly decent and fellow singers were openly supportive which is always appreciated when treading in unfamiliar waters. When all was said and done and the damage was in I spent under $40 for approx. 6 tall cans and 1/2 price wings. The karaoke/wing pairing was definitely appreciated. However the wings were passable at best, I opted for honey-hot on the suggestion of a local and kind of wished I hadn't. I may be becoming a bit of a wing snob as I have been so utterly spoiled by the Wheat Sheaf, but as a wise man once said "it is what it is." For affordable fun in Ottawa you can't do much better than the Rooster, the local for-sale artwork on the walls was an added touch and staff were friendly and attentive. If you find yourself at the Rooster on a Monday night be prepared to give your vocal chords a work out.

Got food poisoning. I wrote the establishment and heard nothing back. I wouldn't risk it.

Small little bar specializing in beer. I loved how their menu is split into "Beer" and "Non-Beer"…read morelol. They have lots of canned beers and some on tap. Their "Non-Beer" is mostly wine, and soda pop. They have some hard liquor, but it's limited (and just the regular vodka, rum, whiskey, etc. no liqueurs or anything fancy. I asked if they had sour mix and they said no, so I'm guessing they only mix with soda pop). Food menu is small. I came with some beer lovers. They had beers. I wanted a whiskey sour, but they couldn't make it, so I got a non-alcoholic drink (root beer). I'm not going to fault the place for this because their focus is obviously beer. The place is kind of small. They have some TVs with sports streaming. They had a really big screen that showed the menu. I thought that was weird. Why didn't they show sports on that screen? We already have the menu in front of us, lol. We got a basket of fries ($5). They were shoestring fries and really good, although a bit too overly salted. Their menu looked interesting, but we already ate before coming. Our server was nice and friendly. She seemed to feel bad that I couldn't find a drink that I liked. She even gave me a sample of some raspberry sour beer to try. I didn't like it, but not her fault, and at least she tried. I think this would be a cool place to hang out for beer lovers.

There's a huge selection and all the empty cans are displayed on the wall. Right after work there weren't that many people but it got steadily more full. I tried three of the food dishes, and the Nashville chicken was definitely the best as it was spiced enough. The mozzarella sticks were ok (need to be more crispy), and the cauliflower had a bit too much sauce. However, the food is generally tasty, but it's a hit or miss. Presentation was better than expected for a beer place! Service is quick and attentive. Pretty cozy spot to relax over some beers!

Sussex & Co. - A New Ottawa Gem Worth Every Bite and Sip…read more We had the pleasure of visiting Sussex & Co. last night to celebrate Mother's Day early with an evening date night -- and what an experience it was! From the get-go, communication with the restaurant was seamless. I reached out via social media requesting a booth, and not only did they respond within minutes, but they followed up with a phone call confirming the reservation. That level of service before we even arrived set the tone for the night. The anticipation was real -- their social media teasers had us excited -- and they delivered. The design of the space is simply stunning. Warm tones and classy touches give it a cozy yet elegant vibe. The main bar is a showstopper with its extensive liquor selection. I was on the hunt for a tequila I'd never tried, and the bartender delivered -- an excellent pick, delicious and reasonably priced. Now for the food: We started with oysters and the burrata. The oysters were fresh, flavourful, and the rosé vinaigrette was a standout touch. The burrata was rich and creamy, and we loved being able to choose the bread it came with -- a small detail that made a big difference. For mains, my wife had the steak frites -- a surprise hit. Incredible flavour and an unbeatable price. I had the ribeye (medium rare) with dauphinoise potatoes, and let me say this: I've eaten at every top steakhouse in Ottawa, and this was hands-down the best steak in the city. Perfectly cooked, beautifully marbled, and seasoned like a dream. The potatoes? The bomb. We kicked things off with a couple of cocktails -- an off-menu espresso martini and a whiskey-vermouth martini-style drink. Both on point. The wine list impressed us too. The GM personally offered pairing advice and introduced us to a bottle so good, we ordered a second. Too full for dessert -- a rarity -- we ended our night in their hidden speakeasy. This space is jaw-dropping. Intimate, stylish, and full of charm. We capped the night with an expertly crafted old fashioned, the perfect end to a perfect evening. Special shout-out to our server Brianna -- despite it being their second night open, she knew the menu inside and out and guided us like a seasoned pro. Sussex & Co. is a must-visit. If you appreciate top-tier service, an incredible culinary experience, and a beautifully designed space, go now... and then go again. We're already planning our next visit.
