    a pool table

I went with a group of about seven people to play pool. We had our own table which was nice. The pool tables are pretty big and spacious. We ordered two pounds of wings, chicken taco nachos and curly fries. The honey garlic wings were really good, the nachos were loaded with veggies and pulled chicken and the curly fries were really good and came with a delicious sauce. I was really please with the food, the pool tables are charged by the hour (12$ an hour). Overall the food was good and ambience was pleasant. Why I gave it two stars: when my husband went to pay for the food in the middle of the game he went to the young blond cashier lady at the bar. We paid for the food, for the pool game she said we can only pay once we're done which is fair. Then she said "make sure you pay don't just walk out, it happens at least three times a week." I found that so unbelievably offensive. We just paid over 50$ for food what makes her think we'd walk out on a 12$ game? We were planning to stay so much longer, but at that point we just finished up the game, PAID and left. For that horrible service I would never go back. Such a shame for I really liked everything else.

    Meat lovers nachos

First time visiting MacLaren's for food and not just to play pool. We came to watch the football games for American Thanksgiving and were pretty impressed with the setup. There are large tvs all around the place with one section that just has a row of tvs and tables to sit and watch the game. The food wasn't half bad, I tried 2 different items while I was here. The meat lovers nachos which consists of pepperoni, sausage, and bacon on them. It was pretty tasty of a dish. It came with 2 sides of sour cream, I found that it would have been better with more salsa on the nachos or a side of salsa with it. I also tried the wings. I had the honey hot wings which were alright, only real issue I had was that they weren't really that hot compared to most other places I have tried. Overall it is a pretty good place. There is a good selection of beers and ciders to choose from, both in bottles and on tap. Everything is also reasonably priced.

We arrived in Ottawa on our road trip and decided to find a nearby place to eat. We stopped at the Clocktower Brew Pub and were warmly greeted by staff and had our choice of seating. Our server was Sean/Shawn, a friendly man who offered custom drinks, and helped us choose our "sharing" options. He was very enthusiastic and friendly, making our table chuckle at his jokes quite a few times. Sadly the Chef that works at this location didn't come in so the manager of another location came to cook so everything was slower to come out of the kitchen. On top of that, once we got our entrees I was salivating at the mouth to try their Thai Peanut Bowl but they closed off the kitchen because of the persons exhaustion. Not anywhere near the closing time. The plus of this evening was we got a free drink that was originally forgotten because of staff confusion. The pirogies I ordered to share with another group member wasn't filling or appetizing. Definitely going back to the hotel and ordering at least a piece of toast to eat. That was really disheartening after the six hour drive from Quebec to here, and enjoying the lovely environment and vibe of the restaurant. It was not their fault though, the staff present weren't responsible for this issue, but it's still saddening.

We have many great memories here! And this has nothing to do with the staff - they've always been wonderful But the quality in the food over the last 6 months had dropped off a cliff. The portion sizes have shrunk to a pathetic level yet the price keeps going up. Even their pogos had the pogo logo on the stick (two for $9) clearly taken frozen out of the box. I keep ordering different items hoping it will be better but it's worse and worse. My fish tonight was the size of a kids crayons and the meal was $16. Get it together Clocktower

Small little bar specializing in beer. I loved how their menu is split into "Beer" and "Non-Beer"…read morelol. They have lots of canned beers and some on tap. Their "Non-Beer" is mostly wine, and soda pop. They have some hard liquor, but it's limited (and just the regular vodka, rum, whiskey, etc. no liqueurs or anything fancy. I asked if they had sour mix and they said no, so I'm guessing they only mix with soda pop). Food menu is small. I came with some beer lovers. They had beers. I wanted a whiskey sour, but they couldn't make it, so I got a non-alcoholic drink (root beer). I'm not going to fault the place for this because their focus is obviously beer. The place is kind of small. They have some TVs with sports streaming. They had a really big screen that showed the menu. I thought that was weird. Why didn't they show sports on that screen? We already have the menu in front of us, lol. We got a basket of fries ($5). They were shoestring fries and really good, although a bit too overly salted. Their menu looked interesting, but we already ate before coming. Our server was nice and friendly. She seemed to feel bad that I couldn't find a drink that I liked. She even gave me a sample of some raspberry sour beer to try. I didn't like it, but not her fault, and at least she tried. I think this would be a cool place to hang out for beer lovers.

There's a huge selection and all the empty cans are displayed on the wall. Right after work there weren't that many people but it got steadily more full. I tried three of the food dishes, and the Nashville chicken was definitely the best as it was spiced enough. The mozzarella sticks were ok (need to be more crispy), and the cauliflower had a bit too much sauce. However, the food is generally tasty, but it's a hit or miss. Presentation was better than expected for a beer place! Service is quick and attentive. Pretty cozy spot to relax over some beers!
