A Perfect Day at Tavern on the Fall This time around, I brought my daughter with me to Tavern on the Fall, and I have to say--what a great choice that turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was electric yet laid-back, striking the perfect balance for a relaxed family outing. The music, the people, and the riverside vibe all made for an inviting setting. The weather was on our side too--sunny with just the right breeze--making the patio experience even more memorable. It honestly felt like we were on vacation without leaving the city. My daughter absolutely loved the place. From the cool decor to the delicious food, she couldn't stop talking about how "fun and grown-up" it felt. The menu hit the mark for both of us. Everything we ordered was fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. You can tell they put care into both their food and their service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. There's something special about a place where you can unwind, enjoy a great meal, and still have it feel family-friendly. Went with a couple of friends for a light lunch while visiting the city because the view is so pretty. The 2 meat and cheese charcuterie board while delicious was overpriced. The Yellowtail Tuna tartare on the other hand was well priced, fresh and delicious. My friends each had the dogs and really liked them. Service was very slow but pleasant. The bee situation was out of control and made it very uncomfortable to enjoy. read more

This place is an Ottawa gem. I went on a cool weekday night but don't worry... they have a fireplace and heated lamps to stay warm! The drinks were tasty but we went to the bar to get them then sat down. My friend and I went later at night and even when they closed, the server let us stay as they were cleaning up. read more

Make no mistake, the view is fantastic. The food is basic and overpriced and the service is average. Also, the washrooms are on par with your average hockey arena and the music is what your dad listened to in high school. My recommendation is that you go here, take your selfie and go somewhere else. read more

A great hidden gem off of tourist beat. I had a chance to stop in here Thursday evening to meet up with a local friend when in Ottawa for business. A great selection of drinks and interesting selection of food / snacks. I went with their gourmet spin on a hotdog. My choice, the Backyard - "Bbq pulled pork, slaw, bacon bits, pickled jalapeños". For $11, I expected to be wowed, sadly the dog left me wondering where the backyard was. Rather than heaping piles flavour, I could count the chunks of pulled pork, and only two jalapeños as an example. Don't get me wrong, it's a unique spot in the city, with super friendly and quick service. Enjoy the view, the sunsets, and the company. The food - will hit the spot, but nothing to write home about. read more

I enjoyed our stop here. There were some great hot dog items on the menu. We enjoyed our meal. The location is fabulous and you can't get a much better decorator than mother nature. However there are a few things I would change on the man mad side of things. It is extremely exposed to the sun so more umbrellas or othe sun protection that can be put up or down as the weather dictates. About half the tables are proectes from the sun. Once seated you cannot see the beauty around you. You see a concrete wall. I get it; safet and all that. It would be great to have bar level?seating around the outside of the wall to all some customers to enjoy the view - could even be a stand up area with a ledge wide enough to perch food and drink on. Maybe there are regulations that make this not doable. Don't know but the seated view was a let down for me. Still worth going to. It can get quite busy with line-ups to get in so try to get there during an off hour to avoid. And of course it is seasonal. Check the website for hours. Oh yeah, location is quite good to bike to and you may be able to visit the geologic society in the same trip. You may have to work to find parking close by as the area is busy and spaces limited. Would I return? Yes Would I recommend? Yes but avoid the lineups. read more

An excellent follow up to last years tavern on the hill. Perched over the Ottawa river immediately beside the Rideau river falls this patio offers spectacular views of the river and fabulous sunsets. Just beyond the Byward market it is a little less hectic and a great place to relax with friends. The gourmet hotdogs are very good. The addition of Bridgehead pastries, coffee and snacks provide some diversity's well. Planning a trip? Keep an eye on the weather as you are al fresco and rain could either hamper your outing or make is a splashing good time under the umbrellas. read more

Great vibes on the patio overlooking the falls, lovely separated heated seating with fire pits! However, the bartender was unnecessarily cranky and seemed to want to kick my friends and i out...he rejected my ID that was a month expired (to be expected, but i (and all my friends) are clearly 21 and offered multiple other forms of ID which he rejected). He then threatened to kick us out for me taking a photo with a drink, not even drinking it. :/ cheer up guy, ur tiara is slipping. Great place otherwise! read more

Came on a summer Sunday afternoon. The place is very nice and big with nice view from upper deck. Unfortunately, the place wreaked of garlic everywhere. They must have a garlic hot dog or something, which unfortunately you can't avoid anywhere on their property lol. The other negative, service very poor. Female bartender spilled a drink all over me. Barely says sorry then ignores it. Doesn't ask what she can do to help. I had to go to the men's washroom to clean up. She never offered a complementary beverage or anything. read more

As we sat outside waiting for a table I noticed there were a bunch of crayfish claws (for real) on the ground where they had us wait. Like, there were a LOT of claws down there you guys. I realize now that this was an omen from the gods telling us to walk away, but at the time I assumed it was just another one of those weird things that happens in Ottawa that nobody talks about. When we got onto the patio I had to use a napkin I had in my pocket to wipe off all the crumbs on the cushions before we could sit on them. It was a real mess. My working theory is that the party that sat at this table before us was a homeless person feeding pigeons. I had to wipe off the table too. Well, I call it a table but it was really a fire-pit of some kind which maybe they should have lit? Fire cleanses. And this place could sure use a bit of that. And the ground (which was carpeted in luxurious AstroTurf) had all kinds of crud and crumbs on it, including a cherry tomato that was stomped deep into its fibers. Tomato and synthetic grass coming together as one, like God intended. I ordered the Calabogie IPA, but when I tasted it it was definitely the Calabogie Pilsner. Which is a good beer and at this point I needed a drink, so, you know. No biggie. They enforce a 20% tip [air quotes] due to COVID [close air quotes]. The place is self-serve though. And you pay before you pick up your drinks at the end of the bar. Tipping before you experience the thing you are tipping for is kind of not how tipping works. And I am not sure what COVID has to do with tipping or how it affects tipping or what the deal was with them dragging COVID into this? Anyway I gave this place three stars, one each because 1) the people who worked there that we talked to were nice 2) the location has quite a lovely view and 3) the pilsner was delicious. This is a really cool place. It's got great views of the falls, downtown and Hull. We biked down on a Saturday in September around lunchtime and had a wonderful experience. I had the Canadian, Eh! hotdog which came sprinkled with chips and smothered in gravy and cheese curds. I asked for it without a bun and they were happy to oblige. My husband had the mexican hotdog with spices, avocado and salsa on it, served in a bun. They even provided blankets to battle the cool September breeze, so it was lovely to cozy up and bask in the sunshine with the falls nearby. read more

Great views and drinks. Their gourmet hot dogs are also good. For the summer, they also offer 2 types of popsicles. Arrive early to get good seats; only half the tables have sun umbrellas and they do not take reservations. Tip is fixed at 15% to limit keypad touching due to COVID-19. read more

This place is over-rated. Supporting the staff is the only reason to come. Otherwise, I will take Costco hot dogs and smoked meat sandwiches anytime. They don't even give extra long hot dogs ... The smoked meat with one paper thinned slice of meat might as well be call coleslaw and pickle sandwich. Service was painfully slow .. If you come in a large group ... don't expect to the rest of the group to wait if your food doesn't come. I didn't think this restaurant was part of the the Canadian Tire Centre. read more

Went for "so called" gourmet dog and ended up with beef dog with artificial bacon bits, dry bun, couple shreds of lettuce and a disgusting sauce as the "Canadian dog $8.45. This is my go to fall spot with my bumble date. The view to the Ottawa locks is stunning and the gourmet hotdogs and wide variety drinks allow you chat and try so many new things. It always gets packed so I suggest coming in before 3-4 pm. The energy is lively and there is always a good buzz at this place. Would definitely recommend!! read more

I've complained high and low on how Ottawa, surrounded by 2 rivers and a canal, has hardly any waterfront walkways bursting with cafés, boutiques and restaurants. Thankfully, someone has had a vision (and an epiphany) and opened this sweet spot at Rideau Falls, one of Ottawa's less known scenic area. Lucky for us, we happened to go on one of those perfect summer evenings: no too hot, not too humid and without a cloud in the sky. So let's say the mood was set to be happy with our visit. And yes, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Tavern on the Falls. It's easy going and simple. The bar offers a great selection and the dawgs are really good. Some may say a bit pricey for hot dogs but considering this place probably costs a fortune to run and can only sustain itself for a very short season, I found the prices quite reasonable. And because the menu is so simple, pretty much anyone can drop in, enjoy a spectacular view while sipping on a drink (food is optional). Everything is self serve and the only draw back is having to line up twice if you are eating and having a drink: the bar and the food order area are two separate entities. My only complaint was the bathrooms: they really needed a bit of TLC by 7pm at night. read more
