I had a craving for fish & chips and Aulde Dubliner was where I chose to fill that need. Good choice. First $24 you get a large piece of Nova Scotia Haddock and delish crispy chips. I liked the fact that it wasn't a piece of fish with a ridiculously thick batter. It was delish and will return next time I return to Ottawa. There is a good beer selection to choose from. This time is Aulde Ďebliner. It's a part of the Heart & Crown pub group. We've been to Heart & Crown before so a bit hesitant at first but once we learned that Aulde Debliner has several local craft beer on tap, we got motivated to try! Many pubs in Byward do not have much craft beer selection, usually they stay with classic ones like Bud, Keith etc.... but here was a bit different. We had - Beyond the Pale Co. IPA - Dominion City Sunsplit IPA - Sangria - Cheese Burger - Chicken Curry with rice - Poutine Beer was both good, served promptly with right temperature . Sangria was just OK. Burger was a bit dry. Super average. Poutine was the same, nothing stands out. Curry was... spicy but rice was a bit soggy.... Overall, no matter how busy this place was, how delayed some items were, and in spite of the so so food, everything turned into pleasant, thanks to the person who attended our table. This pub is at a good location (in a popular part of Ottawa) and is convenient to get to (because it's near the big mall and Byward Market)! It has a variety of seating (indoor, outdoor, balcony) and is always filled with people! We went for lunch one day and sat inside. Food came pretty quickly and our server was helpful. The Irish whiskey stew was really yummy and so filling. It was so flavorful and the crostinis were the perfect addition! I thought it wouldn't be enough food, but it's more filling than it looks! My friends got the fish & chips which were huge portions. The chips here are on the thicker side so they're less crunchy, but still yummy! Overall, this is a yummy and safe place to go if you're looking for a meal in the area! We walked in and went up the stairs to the second floor. Very cool atmosphere with a bunch of TV's and seating at tables or the bar. There was a good selection of alcohol. This was a great little pub with a cool interior...lots of great seating options (especially in the summer...sitting up top and seeing the whole square!). Service was fantastic, our server was super nice and made some great recommendations. I had the fish and chips, and it was tasty! I recommend ordering the chips well done - nothing beats super crispy fries! The fish was a nice big portion, not too greasy and the batter was amazingly crispy. My go to pub whenever I'm in Ottawa. The service is good and there's usually hockey or other sports on the TVs. The poutine is very good. On my last visit, I had the Hairy Larry Ceaser which was delicious, and my husband had a nicely made espresso martini. I have enjoyed the burgers here several times as well. The atmosphere inside is cozy, and the outdoor spaces are lovely when it's warm out. I hope to return again soon! read more

Wack. They are getting away with high prices and mediocre food because of its location and cool upper balcony overseeing the byward market. Really that was the only reason why we came. Had the ceaser salad and salmon. Cesar was one of the worst I've had. Cheaply made with only iceberg lettuce. I paid $9 extra for a piece of salmon and was quite possibly the smallest salmon portion I've ever seen at a restaurant. My husband had the fish and chips. Only saving grace was that this meal was actually decent and this review has 2 stars because of it. However for a $19 meal they included such few fries that we had to promptly notify our server who took care of us. I'm not a picky patron by any means (check my other reviews) but with so many other competing restaurants in the area, this place really needs to invest in the simple things to step their game up. Def won't be back as I doubt there will be incentive to change given their prime location in the market but be forewarned that you will likely leave feeling ripped off. read more

I have been coming to the Aulde Dubliner for many years. The menu has downsized in recent years, but they still have a good variety on there. The service is always very friendly and helpful, and never made me feel like a burden when I ask about allergy friendly foods. They have 2 levels to choose from for seating, and a patio. I went with the Dub Club and soup and was not disappointed. It's made with real chicken breast, not shaved meat which was good. My partner went with the mushroom burger and it was so tasty!! The fries here are thick cut and cut perfectly. Not pictured is my sisters fish and chips, the fish is huge, and comes with a side of tartar sauce, I'm told it's really tasty, but I think fish is disgusting so I can't tell you. But from my fish eating friends, it is one of the best in the city. So if you're in the market and looking for a place to eat, that's moderately priced (20+ a person) then give the Aulde Dubliner a shot. read more

The restos in Sandy Hill have been closing distressingly early, so have been heading to my go-to late-night patio for a post-workout celebration.s Have been to the Aulde Dubliner before, a late-night port in the early closing storms. Can't beat the food and drink offerings, access to sports on the big screens, and people-watching opportunities as the young & restless go about their late-night rounds. Locked my bicycle on a recent visit and was greeted and seated by Lauren, a friendly, thoughtful, and welcoming lass. Turns out she's an English major at my alma mater, and a poetry afficionado. Am an ex- Fulcrumite so the literary nature of the evening was established. Lesley K came by to take my order. Took the quart-sized Corona, hadn't had a quart- size in years, highly recommended. Took two hands to do the lime-flip but everything worked well. Went for the wings and had a basket of fries for desert. Very nice! The food was a tad overpriced but the Corona was great value-for-the-dollar. Can't beat the view from the patio. The late-night antics of Byward denizens never disappoints. Turns out Lesley K is visiting from Nicaragua. She owns a restaurant called Juntos Beach Bar there, and is back in the national capital during he off- season. Good convo about Nicaragua being a safe place for expats. She recommended getting my passport and dropping by on the Pacific side. Not a bad idea. Lesley K filled me in on the history of the restaurant and the affiliation with the Irish Village. Am appreciative of all things Irish, being from County Kerry on me mam's side. Will order a Guinness next time and hoist one in honour of the Emerald Isle and all who left on the coffin ships in search of a new world. Had such a great time I went back the next night after another satisfying heavy-lifting gym session. Farron D was my server. Settled on the quart-sized Coronas. I went to the pub today, with it being very nice summery day. We started with the draft beer and ordered some nachos for appetizers. The nachos were great and the beer was nice and cold. Then we ordered veggie burgers for our supper. The burgers were very salty, there was no other flavour in them. I would not recommend them, however the fries were really good and the salad was good as well. When I got the bill, we noticed that they had charged us for beer taster, it was not mentioned when asked for tasting as we were contemplating ordering it. Service was good. We went to this pub for a couple of drinks in the late spring evening and got ourselves some nice patio seats. There was a band performing inside providing music and entertainment. We had some great and friendly service who was receptive to our orders and was quick in helping us out. The drinks are fairly standard at an adequate price point, so I went for some of the local options they were serving. There was an IPA that had notes of citrus which I took a liking to. This Irish pub at one point competed with the Scottish Highlander Pub next to it. Since then, the Highlander shut down, but it still has to compete with the other taverns dotted around the Byward Market. Aulde Dubliner sees success due to its prime location and view. Overall, I'll recommend coming here for drinks. I can't say anything about the food served here, but I may try that out next time. read more

Lovely patios for summer dining. Seated quickly by the staff and our server hurried our order out because we had show tickets and had only 1.5 hrs to eat and get to next event She was great. We ordered a seafood chowder which was rich and creamy but too fishy smelling for me, others in group had the bbq burger which was very tasty. I was told and then a corned beef salad and a poutine. Nice place to catch a game. The menu is fairly large. That said, not every dish on it is a winner. My first night here, the fish and chips were really good. The fish chowder wasn't bad, but it was pretty skimpy on the fish and the serving wasn't worth the 10 dollar price tag. My colleague had a jambalaya that didn't really resemble one. Also, the shepherds pie got decent reviews, but nothing amazing. My second time out, I had the Bushmills burger and, outside of it being a bit salty, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My hubbie, sister, daughter and I stopped by here for an unplanned Friday pint and though I had been there before, this time around was a totally different experience. The other times had been mainly for eats and it was what you would expect- traditional pub fare also we had always been seated downstairs. We passed by this morning, saw a sign that said "Enjoy Irish breakfast with us" and we did! The eggs benedict was great, cooked exactly the way you want it, with the perfect serving of hollandaise sauce poured peameal bacon and Irish muffin. The bytown breakfast (eggs, ham/sausage/bacon, homefries) was good, too. What stopped me from giving 5 stars was the very looooong wait. It was a busy morning so we waited at least 45 minutes to be served. If the food was mediocre we would have gotten VERY upset but as it were it was great and was worth the wait. Conveniently located in the market, we had drinks, lunch and brunch during our long weekend visit. Enjoyed each visit, but a have to say, the brunch was the highlight. We both had Irish breakfasts and the combo of eggs, 2 meats, beans, potatoes, and toast was prepared perfectly and enough to last well into the day. I recently came back to the Pour House with my friend and his girlfriend on a Saturday night. The place was pretty dead but they had a live band going playing which I thought did a fantastic job! I was really bummed at how dead Pour House was. We sat ourselves at a table on the balcony and nobody came to serve us so after about 15-20 minutes I just walked to the bar to get a pitcher and some glasses. They did have people working the floors though as we saw them walking around. At least I got served this time...I must be moving on up at this place!!! read more
