The decor is very British pub-like (lots of British memorabilia). Charming if you like that kind of stuff. I had the Salmon Boxty ($14.99). I thought that salmon, cream sauce and sun-dried tomatoes sounded like an interesting combination. The combination tasted not so much interesting, but rather odd. It was edible but I would not order it again. The Boxty came with a salad which was ok. Others at the table had the Steak and Kidney Pie, Ashton Chicken and the Grilled Salmon Dinner. They liked their meals better than I liked mine. I did notice on the menu that they had Rarebit. I love Welsh Rarebit and I rarely (haha, pun intended) see this on the menu anywhere in Ottawa. I regret not ordering it while I was there. Service was competent. It looks like they have lots of regulars. Servers seemed more friendly with the regulars than us non-locals. I am not a beer drinker so the fact that this is a brew pub makes no difference to me, but my husband enjoyed trying their beer. I think this would be a good place to go if you live in Ashton or happen to be driving through. I personally would not make a special trip to go back though.

3.5 Stars; when oh well will Yelp give us those half-stars to vote for?!…read more This place is still good. The food is good; they've upgraded the menu. The service is good, if a tad slow. Not an overabundance of wait-staff in this place. On the down-side: it was so busy in here! Such a popular place, even on a Wednesday evening - full to the rafters! You couldn't hear yourself think! And it was so H O T in there! The flies were having a party! On the up-side: our group of about 15 people was part of the problem: loud, and hungry and thirsty! Even better: they have started selling little brown jugs of their home brew. Yeah!!! We'll definitely be back.

While we were wandering we found PJ Murphy's! It's a pub style restaurant with a bar on one side and tables and booths throughout. There are well situated TVs closer to the bar and they were showing the hockey games at the time. It was a cooler day and we had to wait a bit before being seated which was fine because they have a real fireplace right by the doors for you to warm up. They were able to seat our party with some rearranging of tables. The host that led us to our seats warned us that it was a busy night and apologized in advance for the service being slow. It was nice of him to do so but it was actually quite reasonable! Their menu featured many Irish themed dishes. I don't think it was just for St Patty's Day so you get to enjoy it anytime. The Irish stew sounded pretty irresistible and it was! It came plated very stylishly, more than I would have expected for a pub! The stew was very hearty with LOTS of meat and carrots, potatoes, and onions cooked to perfection. There was also a large puff pastry that was served on the side. This was seasoned generously and a wonderful accompaniment. I thought it was pretty unique addition. My boyfriend ordered the Shepherd's Pie. This was another modern plated dish. The pie filling could be seen quite well as there was only a swirl of potatoes in the middle, kind of like whipped cream on a dessert which was not exactly as expected. It was also a much smaller portion than my entree so he wound up eating some of mine. The service really wasn't bad at all! Drinks and food were received in a timely manner and we were offered refills too. When it came time to pay for the cheque, they were willing to let us each pay separate which was no small feat for a table of 7 and was much appreciated by us.

The food is great -- fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. It's the kind of place you want to like. That said, for the price, the portions feel underwhelming. The smashburger, while tasty, is about the size of a standard McDonald's cheeseburger, and a handful of fries just doesn't cut it at this price point. A bit more generosity on the plate would go a long way in matching the quality of the experience with the value. Still worth a visit -- just don't come too hungry.

I only recall trying poutine when I was younger so I figured I'd give it another try. They have Poutine as a whole order, but I was glad to see that they have it as a side option. The food entries comes with a side of your choice (fries, house salad, sweet potato fries (+$2.99) , caesar salad (+$3.50), or poutine (+$3.50)). The portions of the food were huge, so you definitely get your bang for your buck here. Each dish was neatly placed and was so good! The bread from the club was crunchy yet soft and the chicken was moist. The ingredient felt very fresh! The poutine was a tad salty, but I think that is how poutine is? Since it's gravy and cheese (two salty ingredients). It was just the perfect amount to share with the family since we all just wanted a little bit to refresh our taste buds. My family also ordered the Chipotle Chicken Caesar Wrap with the house salad ($19.99); Fish and Chips ($19.99), and Grilled Chicken Club with the house salad ($19.99). The chipotle chicken caesar wrap was HUGE. My mom said it was very good and that it wasn't too overpowered with all the flavors and sauces. I was able to try a bite of her house salad and was also impressed by the fresh ingredients of the salad. You can tell it is a good salad when the salt actually crunches and does not just wilt there. The Fish and Chips were pretty good according to my brother in law. Crispy, not totally too greasy and a large piece on top. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here in this small town. It had a cosy interior with very nice staff. FYI, the menu is located solely online! Reception could be a little spotty, so they have wifi for you in case you need it! We waited at the front for a few minutes before we were greeted by a young Hostess. The restaurant was not packed by any means, but there were a few other patrons, mostly older people. It made me wonder if they were doing what we were doing: grabbing a bite before the show. Our waiter admitted that he was in training as he was new; this is his first week and only his 3rd day. He and another waiter served us for this visit. Oddly, the veteran waiter welcomed us back - and thought we were here recently! Perusing the menu, they offer good specials during the week. We both chose the 1 piece of fish and chips which is normally $15.00 and on special last night for $11.00. and a beer (Keith's I think??! at $5.00 on Wednesdays - a different beer every night.) I found all my food was delicious and would not hesitate to order it again here. I loved the batter on the fish, and the coleslaw was tasty if a bit too much sauce on it. Our service was reasonable, although they were a tiny bit slow bringing the bill. They must be aware of the theatre diners... None the less, I would go back.
