We really enjoyed the food. The small charcuterie board was a great way to wet our appetites. The micro greens and caramelized peaches elevated the Burrata plate. The flank steak was a very good dish, the chimichuri had a good kick, but did not overwhelm my palette. The deconstructed key lime pie was unique and a reason for me to go back in the near future. I found this place online while trying to search for something near where my friend lived (Kanata). We visited on a Thursday evening so it was not busy. The service was superb. We got seated at the window and were given a free appetizer on the house. We ordered baguette bruschetta, lamb shank, shrimp risotto, and poached pear. Everything was tasty and very well plated. I've been here twice and will most definitely be back. It was a random restaurant we chose to go to after a sad event. We were hungry and wanted somewhere nice to go to. We found them on Google. It's a tiny little place in a strip mall in kanata. We were pleasantly pleased when we called and they had a table. When you walk in, you are greeted with a smile and a welcome both times. It is comfortable and beautifully decorated. It's very classy but you can also come in casually dressed. Their menu is diverse, and everything I've had both times here has been beyond delicious. We usually try a few appetizers to share, dinner, and dessert. Whatever brand of prosecco they have, there is the beat I've tasted in a restaurant. The bartender/waitress/owner is super friendly. Both times, we had such a nice chat with her, and you just get these genuinely nice vibes. I've left happy and relaxed both times and have recommended this restaurant to so many people. The food is delicious, but quite pricey. The location is unusual for an expensive restaurant. It's in a bit of an industrial strip mall, and it faces a body shop and car wash. Eating a $45 main course and looking out the window to see mechanics fixing cars seems a bit weird to me, but hey, whatever. So Amuse has a mix of "sharing plates" and main dishes. Like I mentioned earlier, prices are high. Sharing plates run from $15-$23 and they are really small! Mains are $29-$45. They also offer a charcuterie board that ranges from $18-$55. I had dinner here with my husband and father-in-law. We started with the Walnut Bruschetta $16. It's 5 tiny pieces. However, I have to admit that it was delicious. It was served on a crostini and the toppings were tomatoes, arugula pesto, feta, walnuts and olives. They also gave us an "amuse bouche" which was tomatoes, cucumber, yellow wax beans in a balsamic reduction. Both my father-in-law and I had the Sambuca Shrimp ($29). Now this dish is usually a pasta dish, but the server told us they didn't have any pasta, so it would be a risotto dish. We were ok with that, but I feel that it would have been better with pasta (especially after having had it). They bring it to the table with a spoonful of flaming Sambuca and that they then pour into your dish. It's kind of cool to see your dish on fire for a little bit, lol. You do get 5 very large shrimp which were cooked to perfection. However, I found the dish a bit too rich (garlic cream) and it had minimal vegetables (just caramelized onions and slivers of fennel). It was tasty, but too decadent for me. My husband had the Duck Breast ($33). It was served with roasted potatoes and vegetables (wax beans, bell peppers and onions). They sliced the duck breast and then topped it with strips of duck fat. Sounded and looked really fatty/greasy. He enjoyed it though. Service was great. The place seats 29 at maximum capacity and there is only 1 server for the entire restaurant. It wasn't full when we were there, but busy enough. The server was friendly and attentive and checked up on us appropriately. Decor is nice. However, when you look out the window it's not a pretty view; you feel like you are in an industrial area. I feel like there is a huge dissonance between the prices and the food and where this restaurant is (and the way it looks on the outside). read more

Four stars cause only locals and businessman would find themselves here. Three stars if this is being compared to what the rest of the world has to offer. The foie gras dish was like watching my own son fumble through a piano piece. He's actually playing the song fairly well, but there are moments where chords are played wrong. The pacing isn't exactly right the whole time. That's how I felt with this dish. Even with its glaring pain points, like a super small portion of foie gras and the profile being dominated by the bread, this dish still has quite the charm. It offers a comfort element without going overboard. Although boisterous, the volcano sea salt, garlic butter, and maple sriracha offer a sweet, salty, and potent flavor. The bread, which I imagine was toasted after searing the foie gras, had an intense flavor. To the point where in the first two bites, it was the forefront in the flavor. The apple compote looked like pineapple, and reminded me of pie filling. It was not the higher of quality, but it was pretty good still. The grilled prosciutto and pear dish was not what I expected. It's served in a warm fig sauce that surrounds the whole plate. The second thing was how they layered the ingredients. In a narrow strip of bread, layered with pears, brie, and strip of layered ingredients was a tad cumbersome to cut through, but it all managed to pick on my fork. The Brie was super gooey, the pears were quite firm, and the prosciutto was textbook standard what what I'd expect. The fig sauce was the most peculiar part of this meal. Heavy and creamy, yet packed with fig taste. On second thought, this dish feels like an Italian chef wanted to make a sauce based dish, but only had a charcuterie board at his disposal. I admire the creativity, but I think this dish should be tweaked for complete harmonization. The Brie and fig sauce felt like a duet belting out their notes along with the ensemble. I think it's great there is some semblance of fine dinging in the suburbs of Kanata. This place definitely has a lot to offer compared to the surrounding chains in the area. I hope the chef has a fruitful venture at this place, although I hope he honed his craft for harmonization for his meals. He's probably using a food truck distributor, but he's doing great with what he has. But if this place was in Manhattan, it probably would have been shut down after 3 months. read more

We went to Amuse for Mother's Day as my parents live in the Ottawa, and have to say, driving up to the strip mall behind a gas station made me question what the experience would be like. I am so thrilled to say that I couldn't have been more wrong - every single thing was absolutely spectacular, from the wine recommendation to my dad's perfectly cooked and seasoned steak. I had octopus that was by far the best octopus I've ever had in my life, and it's one of my favourite foods, so that's saying something. I was out shopping in Kanata with my mom decided to Yelp restaurants in the area and Amuse peaked my interest. So we decided to try it. It exceeded my expectations! We had 4 share plates. Burrata salad, walnut bruschetta, candied pear salad and the arrancini. I took pictures of 3 out of 4 dishes. We devoured the arrancini before I remembered. We've heard great things about this restaurant and enjoyed the food while we were here, however the server Eric completely ruined the evening for us. We were celebrating a very special occasion and we're looking forward to this award winning restaurant and spend money on this experience, but Eric made sure to make us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. He clearly was in a terrible mood right from the beginning and made absolutely no effort to hide this from us. There were a handful of snide, under-his-breath comments, rude responses to very simple questions such as asking where the washroom was and aggressive body language and serving. I've never seen someone pour water with so much anger. We will return to the restaurant to support this local business and the owner, however we want to make sure Eric's horrific customer service does not go unnoticed. Eric - if you read this, we sincerely hope everything is okay with you as we recognize we can't know what everyone's home life is like, but please try to realize that this is a very special and expensive outing for some people and your attitude makes a huge impact on our day. read more

This is a tough one to get accurate. Spanish/continental style. The decor and seating are plain. The food is clearly well prepared and executed, but there is an issue. Because it is French/Spanish style, the food is very "rich". This is tempered a bit by the sauces, which are served sparingly. This is good for balance, but may be a devil in disguise. Do not forget there is fat and salt in abundance, especially in the Sobrasada. A medical condition gives me a "tell" when I eat too much of either of these, and I was "told" quite clearly. For those with no obvious reaction, suffice it to say that the food is wonderful, but you are eating very rich cuisine. Our server (pleasant, attentive) advised that we consider two sharing plates each as a good quantity to order, which we did. We had Proscuitto and Pear, Foie Gras, Sobrasada, and Chilled Crab Cake. The proscuitto/pear was very sweet. We had it last, and after the previous "heavy' dishes, it felt a bit "lost". Pleasant, but still rich. Verging on too sweet. The Foie Gras was excellent. Fried, beautifully presented, as you would hope. The crab cake was fine. It was shredded, naturally sweet crab meat, on a bed of delicious aioli. (This is one where clearly the stars were the sauce and presentation, however.) Finally the Sobrasada was fatty and salty. Perhaps as it should be, but for me it was unpleasant. Sorry. A place, perhaps, for a special outing, but go in accepting that you are indulging, and it will be a very good experience. read more

We shared the grilled halloumi. Then I had the chicken on mushrooms, and my hubby had shrimp risotto. We had a bottle of red Syrah from BC. Everything was delicious and well presented. Cute little place in Kanata for a nice night out. The menu is small but well executed. We had the Halloumi, Scallops, Lamb and Caprese Salad and they were all quite tasty (never had prosciutto on a Caprese Salad before). We even had room for the Bananas Foster dessert which was a nice way to cap off the evening. The only complaint we had was the size of the restaurant. It's a little small so some of the tables can get a little tight making for private conversation difficult. Other than that though, a nice little escape in Kanata from all the many chains that exist. read more

I love Amuse! It is so nice to have really good quality food without going downtown. I have been well over a dozen times in the last year, and although it is expensive, it never disappoints. I've tried most items and enjoy the interesting and unique tastes and flavour combinations. Service is top notch too! For my son's birthday (turning 12 -he's a bit of a foodie like his parents), he ordered a meal that was not to his liking, only because he really dislikes tomatoes and didn't realize it was a main part of the dish. They quickly and kindly replaced his meal and he was thrilled. They went above and beyond to make his night special and didn't charge us for the first meal. I will keep going to Amuse! read more
