The guys in the open kitchen are, at the moment, performing some legitimate sorcery with a plate of grilled salt-roasted carrots laid on a bed of harissa yogurt, zucchini pesto and pistachio. I cannot even describe the flavour of this dish except in superlatives. It was one of the best things I have tasted in years; a stop-me-in-my-tracks, silence -inducing burst of sweet-laced, wood-smoke tinged umami. This is the kind of dish I know I will forever try to recreate but will never come close to. Other stuff on the menu is great too. But while they have them, get the f-ing carrots.

A glance at the menu drew me to the smoked meat spring roll, but upon hearing the daily special of the salmon wrap and butternut squash soup was what I chose. Issue #1. The bread was Texas Toast cut. Issue #2 - If you want mayo and a lot of it. ask your server. The tiny Dixie cup that came with the meal only managed to be enough for one layer on the first half. Issue #3 - the French fries were like match sticks. Tasty but they cool very quickly. By the time they arrived they were cold. But it is a meal unto itself. Only if you are super hungry should you add fries to your meal I had the 2 lbs of naked wings. Served hot and fresh Slight issue #1. Don't get the fries. They were cold before I had finished my fourth wing. Slight issue #2. If you do get 2 lbs consider mixing flavours 1 lbs of this and 1lbs if that. 2 lbs of anything and the taste can be overwhelming. Slight issue #3. Save room for the sticky toffee pudding. Big issue #1: Noise!! In my group were at least 17 bodies and given a low ceiling at the entrance and with regular patrons it was almost impossible to hear anyone or anything above the din.

The food, however, was mediocre overall. We had the albacore tuna sashimi and foie gras terrine to start. The sashimi was actually a nice portion of thick cut sashimi, but the sauce and garnishes could have complemented the tuna a bit better. The foie gras terrine was ok - not enough crostinis to go with the foie gras. Flavour wasn't too strong. For the pappardelle, it looked like chunks of pork belly instead of pig cheek? The pork belly was nice and crispy but overly salty. On the other hand the pappardelle and sauce was super bland with zero flavour. Overall, the food didn't meet my expectations.
