Fish and chips ok. Everything else not so much. A bit smelly inside and the patio is ok. View is disappointing.

This is going to sound ridiculous but I'm going to recommend that you go to this place and order…read morecarrots. The guys in the open kitchen are, at the moment, performing some legitimate sorcery with a plate of grilled salt-roasted carrots laid on a bed of harissa yogurt, zucchini pesto and pistachio. I cannot even describe the flavour of this dish except in superlatives. It was one of the best things I have tasted in years; a stop-me-in-my-tracks, silence -inducing burst of sweet-laced, wood-smoke tinged umami. This is the kind of dish I know I will forever try to recreate but will never come close to. Other stuff on the menu is great too. But while they have them, get the f-ing carrots.

We got lucky today they had a table for 2 left in the corner. I took steak and eggs. It comes with a crispy egg but over easy...(very delicious) but I don't know how we call it. On top of the eggs you will find; onions, tomatoes, feta cheese and fried onion. Under all the goodness was sliced steak. ($28) the portion are good. Salade was made out of pomegranate, cucumber and radish. Not the highlight of my plate but good combination. My partner got the BLT he loved it. Because of the wait for our plated they gave us a complimentary dessert. Partner said it was delicious.

My in-laws saw The Old Mill at Ashton Pub on a local TV show and wanted to try it, so the four of…read moreus went. It is a bit of a trek from Ottawa proper. The decor is very British pub-like (lots of British memorabilia). Charming if you like that kind of stuff. I had the Salmon Boxty ($14.99). I thought that salmon, cream sauce and sun-dried tomatoes sounded like an interesting combination. The combination tasted not so much interesting, but rather odd. It was edible but I would not order it again. The Boxty came with a salad which was ok. Others at the table had the Steak and Kidney Pie, Ashton Chicken and the Grilled Salmon Dinner. They liked their meals better than I liked mine. I did notice on the menu that they had Rarebit. I love Welsh Rarebit and I rarely (haha, pun intended) see this on the menu anywhere in Ottawa. I regret not ordering it while I was there. Service was competent. It looks like they have lots of regulars. Servers seemed more friendly with the regulars than us non-locals. I am not a beer drinker so the fact that this is a brew pub makes no difference to me, but my husband enjoyed trying their beer. I think this would be a good place to go if you live in Ashton or happen to be driving through. I personally would not make a special trip to go back though.

3.5 Stars; when oh well will Yelp give us those half-stars to vote for?!…read more This place is still good. The food is good; they've upgraded the menu. The service is good, if a tad slow. Not an overabundance of wait-staff in this place. On the down-side: it was so busy in here! Such a popular place, even on a Wednesday evening - full to the rafters! You couldn't hear yourself think! And it was so H O T in there! The flies were having a party! On the up-side: our group of about 15 people was part of the problem: loud, and hungry and thirsty! Even better: they have started selling little brown jugs of their home brew. Yeah!!! We'll definitely be back.

Issue #1. The bread was Texas Toast cut. Issue #2 - If you want mayo and a lot of it. ask your server. The tiny Dixie cup that came with the meal only managed to be enough for one layer on the first half. Issue #3 - the French fries were like match sticks. Tasty but they cool very quickly. By the time they arrived they were cold. But it is a meal unto itself. Only if you are super hungry should you add fries to your meal I had the 2 lbs of naked wings. Served hot and fresh Slight issue #1. Don't get the fries. They were cold before I had finished my fourth wing. Slight issue #2. If you do get 2 lbs consider mixing flavours 1 lbs of this and 1lbs if that. 2 lbs of anything and the taste can be overwhelming. Slight issue #3. Save room for the sticky toffee pudding. Big issue #1: Noise!! In my group were at least 17 bodies and given a low ceiling at the entrance and with regular patrons it was almost impossible to hear anyone or anything above the din.

This place…read morehas a great indoor space and outdoor space, and on a hot day it was nice to be inside for a bit. Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Servers were really friendly getting us situated with our daughter and the wagon we use to transport her around. Very family friendly as we saw several other parents with strollers as well. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.
