I got my Super Burger keto style. My mom got the Classic Club, on rye (which turned out to be marble rye, which she was delighted by.)

May 20, 2022: Ate on patio at Lieutenant's Pump. Beautiful setting, nestled in courtyard of an old apartment building. Lots of people of all ages sitting on patio, making for a casual, lively atmosphere. Our waitress was caring and attentive, bringing us more water unasked. I asked if she could make my burger keto-friendly, with a lettuce wrap. She thoughtfully offered a gluten-free bun but I said that didn't address the carbs. So she got it done in lettuce. It was yummy and filling.

Nothing like a few good pints and some tasty comfort food after a 5 hour drive from Toronto to Ottawa. I was overwhelmed by choice on the food menu, lots of options. Plus the beer menu was full of choices. The beer was a bit on the expensive side but I didn't mind because I knew I was getting good quality based on the selection. I indulged in the Table 23 burger, which has Brie cheese, mushrooms and bacon. Talk about perfection. We tried to come back on the next night but it was super busy and no tables were available. I would definitely hit this place up again during non-peak evenings. Yum!

When you visit Ottawa for a weekend, invariably you take on a brunch of some sort. As such, everyone tends to have their favourites, so when it was one of my party's turn to pick, we hit Lieutenant's Pump. Found downtown on Elgin Street, you figure it's going to be packed with a line-up out the door. A quick glance as you approach confirms your fears. The layout of the Pump is kind of, for lack of better description, all over the place. An atrium of seats exist immediately as you enter the pub, with a narrow hallway past the bar leading you to a large L-shaped area at the back. It's small enough that you can find your way around and find others in your party, but I feel sorry for the folks who may be drunk and trying to find a bathroom. The place is definitely pubby in style and does not have any of the airs or affects of a franchise pub. This has the warmth of a local neighbourhood pub and I've experienced it several times at night. However it's on the brunch that it staggers a bit. The menu is genuinely wide enough to please most-to-all and as such does make it a great place to go. Sadly, it's in the service end where things begin to fall apart. The staff seems somewhat overwhelmed with the rush that they inevitably get every Saturday and Sunday morning, leaving you waiting for a longer time than expected, and reasoning exactly why it is they have a line-up outside. Once it's there the food is decent enough, though I wonder at times if it is genuinely worth the wait.

I love coming to the Lieutenant's Pump for their Sunday roast beef dinner; it is a great way to end the weekend and when it is too hot to cook. The beef is tender and the sides are fresh and seasonal. I also love coming for their weekend brunch; the two eggs standard is excellent value for the price point. Their chorizo scrambled egg burrito is also very good. The staff is always friendly and service is very prompt. It is a popular place for friends to meet up. Also, on weekends, their mason jar drinks are only $12.00 before 5:45 pm; their grapefruit refresher is perfect on a scorcher of a day.

Fun place to go out. All the young crowd goes there. Would recommend. Dance floor gets too sweaty though

I was SO stoked to finally visit the Moonroom after seven or so years of wanting to go!…read more After a Saturday night at Bluesfest, we waited somewhere else for about half an hour before they told us the kitchen was backed up, so we walked down Preston and I was so glad the Moonroom was still open. We didn't get there until about 12:30am and it was pretty full. We didn't leave until maybe 2:30am and it was still pretty full considering the time. They're not normally open this late, but it seems like a lot of the businesses on Preston decided to stay open later to catch the post-Bluesfest crowd. Good call! We decided to sit inside since there was an empty table, otherwise I would've liked to sit out on their back patio, which looked really pretty with the lights. Inside was a nice vibe though, too. It's small/narrow, dimly lit, with sheets covering the different coloured ceiling lights, and candles on the table. It's very intimate and pretty romantic. We sat close to the bar and there was another party of two beside us. The music was a bit louder so we couldn't really hear the other table's conversations, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. They were playing the Bee Gees when we walked (danced) in, so we were really about the jams. My husband got a rotating draught IPA by Daft Brewing, can't remember which one it was. I got the Jill Collins, which had Tanqueray Gin, Affino Limone, fresh lemon and mint, cane syrup, and a Moon soda top. It was super refreshing, bright, and not too sweet, which is exactly what I wanted. We shared/I mostly ate the "OG Grilled Cheese" and "Panzanella-esque Salad". The grilled cheese had aged Balderson and cream cheeses in a crunchy baguette smothered in toasted garlic butter, served with Moon ketchup. It was exactly as described, with very crunchy, buttery garlic bread and creamy cheese. The Moon ketchup is made in-house, thinner and chunkier than processed, store-bought ketchup, with stronger flavours. It was okay, but I didn't need to dip much in the ketchup because I really enjoyed the sandwich and it was on the saltier side itself. Because it was a lot creamier than gooey, I'd say it was more of a sandwich than a grilled cheese, but still very tasty. I really am not a huge fan of salad in general, but I can't complain when it was burrata on top. It also had salty bread, arugula, roasted tomatoes, fresh peaches, herbs, and honey. The peaches were more firm than ripe and juicy, which was good for a salad, though I wish they were a bit sweeter. The burrata wasn't creamy inside like I expected, but I love cheese in any form. I really don't know what possessed me to get salad, especially after a bunch of drinks in the wee hours of the night, but my body thanked me later. Salty, bitter, a little sweet, fresh, and not heavy, even with (more) bread and cheese. It was great. They unfortunately ran out of the affogato, which probably would've convinced my husband to stay longer. Too bad. The vegan dark chocolate gelato from Farinella that they put in it sounded amazing. The beer was $10.50, my cocktail was $19, grilled cheese $16, and salad $17, which was pricey. BUT, the fresh herbs are from their garden on the back patio, they make their own soda and ketchup (among other things), everything was delicious, and even late at night the cocktails and dishes were still well put together and tasted great, plus I finally came here after so long. No regrets! Our server was super nice, same with owner and one of the bartenders, who even popped over and sat with us for a bit to chat. And not in a weird/creepy/in-your-face way lol she was cool. She was the one who greeted us when we came in and said bye to us on our way out. There's no flash photography (I forgot to turn my auto flash off for my salad, sorry!). They're open all week from 5pm to 2am, no reservations, no large groups, and no phone (just stop by). I wasn't sure if it would meet the high expectations and hype I had built up in my head after waiting so long to visit, but it totally did. It's such a nice spot, we had an amazing time, and we will definitely be back!

This is going to sound ridiculous but I'm going to recommend that you go to this place and order…read morecarrots. The guys in the open kitchen are, at the moment, performing some legitimate sorcery with a plate of grilled salt-roasted carrots laid on a bed of harissa yogurt, zucchini pesto and pistachio. I cannot even describe the flavour of this dish except in superlatives. It was one of the best things I have tasted in years; a stop-me-in-my-tracks, silence -inducing burst of sweet-laced, wood-smoke tinged umami. This is the kind of dish I know I will forever try to recreate but will never come close to. Other stuff on the menu is great too. But while they have them, get the f-ing carrots.

We got lucky today they had a table for 2 left in the corner. I took steak and eggs. It comes with a crispy egg but over easy...(very delicious) but I don't know how we call it. On top of the eggs you will find; onions, tomatoes, feta cheese and fried onion. Under all the goodness was sliced steak. ($28) the portion are good. Salade was made out of pomegranate, cucumber and radish. Not the highlight of my plate but good combination. My partner got the BLT he loved it. Because of the wait for our plated they gave us a complimentary dessert. Partner said it was delicious.
