We were coming back from across the river and on the hot day were just wanting a nice cold beverage and a bite to eat. This was pretty close to us so we popped in since it looked like an Irish pub and it is usually hard to go wrong with one. The hostess was nice and got the three of us seated pretty quickly, it seems like they have a "family" section where they stick people with kids which was a bit annoying but I understand for the rest of the patrons. Our server came up and we ordered, it was clear he was not happy with us ordering a shareable, 2 drinks and an ice cream for the three of us. He basically dismissed us the rest of the time we were there, so for that particular waiter basically a zero star rating. Thankfully another waitress or maybe a manager checked in with us and fixed everything since the moron forgot to bring the ice cream out first as requested and we had to wait until after we were done. Drinks were as expected. The mini yorkies were delicious and I would highly recommend them. Service from the wait staff is laughable, that guy would have gotten a decent tip if he just actually did his job and didn't have to have a manager or fellow waitress save his bum. The waitress was lovely, but all the burgers were well done and they brought my son a chicken sandwich instead of a burger. When we pointed this out it took another 15 minutes for him to get his correct order. My husband's burger was Luke warm and the bacon was burnt. The waitress was covering quite a few tables and doing her best but clearly the kitchen needs work. We were also seated inside downstairs and the air conditioning was blasting on us the whole time. One guy in our group was enthusiastic and merry about this place. We were optimistic and settled in this spot while listening to some David Bowie. While in Ottawa for the weekend, a friend suggested we try D'Arcy McGee's Irish Pub. When we arrived, the pub was quite full so the hostess was going to seat us( a group of 7) in two separate tables of 4. We had to ask for the small round tables to be placed together which they did, however we weren't sure why the hostess did not put one small round table together with the rectangular table of four. In the end our waitress help put that together which was nice and also gave us a lot more space. Shortly after our waitress took our meal order. As my sister and I weren't very hungry, we ordered a variety of items to share with the three guys...such as the Nachos with ground beef, poutine and Buffalo Chicken Wings. The three guys ordered the 2 Piece Fish and Chips, the Guinness Beef Bowl and the Lamb Shank. Our food took approximately 20mins to arrive which was nice. However the food was quite salty. During our outing in Ottawa we were suggested to try D'arcy McGee's because the first pub we went to couldn't accommodate us because we had a baby with us and the only tables that were available were high tops which wouldn't have worked out for us. D'arcy McGee's is under the Recipe Unlimited Corporation which owns many restaurants that we are more familiar with such as Swiss Chalet, Fionn MacCool's, Harvey's, The Keg and New York Fires just to name a few. We arrived and the hostess arranged for a table for 7 right away for us but a bit of a hiccup, the hostess arranged the table all cramped up in the corner with no room for the kids. Our server was quick and noticed what we were trying to tell the hostess and she quickly moved our tables to a better spot. Service was good quick and harmless our server kept our whistles wet and alcohol flowing. As for food I thought it was ok nothing special I ordered the Guinness Beef bowl, my friend got the Lamb shank, the kids got the Mac and Cheese, my wife, sister and brother in-law shared fish and chips, wings, nachos, and poutines. My beef bowl was salty and tasted average same with the Lamb shank and everything else as they all seemed slightly on the salty side. We were at the Winterlude Fest and decided to eat lunch here as it was very close to Confederation Park. So glad we ate here. The food is brilliant and is so the service. Friendly servers with great menu suggestions. We shared a bacon burger(perfectly cooked), poutine(delicious), baked buffalo cauliflower (We have had buffalo cauliflower at a lot of restaurants but this was by far our favorite) and the star of dinner Rover Bites ooey gooey from inside, perfectly seasoned and addictive. Down at the Porter end of YOW, there's only a couple options for a sit down meal - Byward Taps and D'Arcy's. Having been to the Taps a couple before and not being impressed, I decided to take the extra steps down the terminal to try and find something better. D'Arcy's may be a chain pub in an airport, but it was going to be hard to be worse than the Taps was. There was a few tables occupied when I arrived, and some more filled up over the course of my mea, as a new round of departures were coming up. The restaurant is more closed off from the hustle and bustle of the airport than some of the other food options, which was nice, but unfortunately it also seemed to inhibit the airport's wifi. D'Arcy's menu is pretty sizable, but doesn't reach the ridiculous levels of larger chains like Boston Pizza. There's the typical pub fare, as well as a good amount of Irish items like steak and mushroom pie, shepherd's pie and boxties. I'd never had a boxty before, which is an Irish potato pancake, so I went with the steak and mushroom boxty. Not wanting to be a complete glutton, I got the house salad on the side. It wasn't long before I had my plate of Irish-ish food. The boxty was folded over a thick pile of hunks of steak, whole mushrooms and gravy. I enjoyed the boxty itself; it had a soft, slightly chewy texture that was somewhere in between a tortilla and naan bread. The steak was moist and tender, and the mushrooms being whole added more texture than just having slices. The gravy was rich and flavourful, although I can't say I could detect any of its Guinness base. The salad was pretty basic - comprised of mixed greens, pumpkin seeds, and a light balsamic and oil dressing. The greens were fresh though, and it was all a nice balance to the hearty boxty. D'Arcy's has some solid food and is a nice reprieve from the masses of the rest of the airport. Just save your data-heavy surfing for the Porter lounge. read more

I'd had them a couple months ago at their sister restaurant in Toronto, Fionn MacCool's, and liked them. They were good but they weren't hot ... they were barely warm. I also ordered Ma's Crispy Chicken (without the slaw). It too was barely warm but the creamed corn was hot. I found the chicken and potatoes really salty. Plus for the cost ($15), the two chicken pieces were small. One was a breast and other was ... maybe a thigh? It was a weird chewy piece of meat. I wouldn't order this again. Favorite place in Ottawa. Beer selection is really good, with the local rotation on tap always a winner. Went in last night with a group of 7 (three kids). Sat us in 5 mins, and the waiter was awesome with the kids. Joked with them, and had the knowledge to brin the kids meals as soon as they were ready. I read other posts about the Cobb salad being bad. Two in our group got it, and loved it. The D'Arcy MCGee history is a great story for the table for those who are from out of town. OK, I just had one of the worst lunches of my life. I went there at 11:55am with some coworkers for lunch. We ordered promptly upon arriving, (so maybe 12:03pm?). At 12:30 the waitress came and apologized, said our food was almost ready, at 12:45pm I went to find her to cancel my order since I had to go back to work. So she tells me it's ready and she can pack it up if I want... so I said OK (big mistake) I take my lunch with me back to work to eat at my desk. It's a cob salad, that I paid nearly $20 for. There were 4 cherry tomatoes on it, but two of them had been cooked (so I assume they were taken from someone else's order), the chicken was boiled with no seasoning at all and to top it all off, the feta cheese on it has mold in it. I'm going to have to return it later (since I'm now stuck at work). But the worst part, I'm still starving and have nothing to eat. This bar has very friendly and attentive staff. The server recommended that I try the fish tacos with some extra wing sauce and it was amazing! They should seriously consider making it a staple. The beer was good and also local. The beer menu had a km rating to show how far away the beer came from which was very cool and it's always good to know when you are trying to support local businesses. It's very convenient to eat here when you are going on the haunted walks as it is right next door! It's also very close to the Parliament buildings. Dropped in for dinner on a Tuesday night after checking out reviews and the place was packed at 7.30pm. We got the last table and sort of expected the food to be below par due to the wait staff who were rushed off their feet. But it wasn't. The fish and chips were surprising good, came out seriously hot off the plate (fryer) and tasted home made, whether it is or not is open to debate but having had fish and chips all over the world and coming from Britain it's pretty good praise. Yes it was busy and the attention to detail (ie more staff to alleviate the work load) would have got the 5 stars. But this is a drop in snapshot of this place. Maybe we caught it on a good night? My friend and I visited here for the first time on New Year's Eve. Our original intention was to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a few pints, and then go watch the "Leaf Drop" on Sparks Street at midnight. We arrived at around 9pm and we were told there's be about a half hour wait for a table. No problem, we went to the bar to enjoy our first pint of beer. Almost immediately, we were welcomed by one of the bartenders who helped us select a beer (Honker's Ale!) About 15 minutes later, we were seated at our table. It's a pub. It's an old pub. It's not very spacious so don't expect a lot of privacy for a conversation. But we loved it! My friend said she had visited the Darcy McGee's in Orleans and this one beat it hands down. If you like an old-time pub atmosphere and decor, this is for you. We both had the fish'n'chips, and enjoyed it. We had four or five beers each, all different. Our server was very helpful in selecting each one. All great craft beers! All things considered, the service, food, and beer were great. We will be back for sure. (P.S. Bought tickets for this place for New Year's as I was visiting friends in Ottawa. It's a pretty nice bar, actually really big if you include the basement. The men's washroom is a pain in the ass to get to, but the staff was good. I thought the drink prices were reasonable, but I'm not that familiar with Ottawa drink prices. The manager did us a solid as someone in our party couldn't make it and he bought back the ticket, which a lot of other places definitely would not have done. Then got a burger served to me.. the bun was stale and gross... Try again.. got a better bun this time.. didn't quite make up for the lifeless burger. Came in (accidentally) during Oktoberfest. Yay? The female servers were scantily clad in German-esque garb (definitely not a Dirndl) and the male servers had hats on. Where's the Lederhosen at? Tacky, but whatever. I ordered the Guinness burger, switch to veggie patty, add bacon. The server found my request amusing but she was gracious and the kitchen provided the substitutions for my meal. The Guinness cheese in the burger was amazing. You could see the brown Guinness marbled through the cheddar. The bun was subpar. It tasted like something I had purchased (sadly) from the Hartman's "bakery" last week - plasticky outside and whiter-than-white inside that deflates as soon as you put any pressure on it. Gross. The veggie party tasted like dry tempeh with little flavor. I have a lot of veggie burger experience and this is not one I'd recommend. I will note, however, the fries were wicked. Thick cut and deep fried to perfection. The beer selection was pretty good as well. There was a bottled beer called the Amsterdam - Boneshaker available for $5. Amazing stuff. I ordered "The Club" sandwich, which is basically a turkey sandwich on re. It comes with a side of fries or Caesar salad, which was what I had. In addition to the meal, I asked the waiter for an appetizer (the Shepherd's pie mini yorkies) for our table to share while the food was being prepared. He told me that the food we were ordering was a pretty large portion and that we should probably reconsider. I'm glad that we did, because when the food came out, it was absolutely very large. The sandwiches were doubled stacked and filled with meat (which was very impressive). Overall, I enjoyed the food and the service. It's a bit on the pricey end but totally worth the try. I hadn't been to Darcy's in a while but ended up there last night for some food after having seen a movie at World Exchange and it is still as average as I remember it. I guess I am just a bit bored with these stereotypical "Irish" pubs because to me they are all the same and a good pub has to be unique in my mind, otherwise why would I choose there over any other place? Tom's pub philosophies aside Darcy's is not bad. The beer selection is pretty good (although I was disappointed to see that they didn't have any local microbrews on tap like they used to) and the food is not bad. I had a Haddock and Shrimp curry pot that was pretty good but not over the top amazing but the rice was a bit cold. My friend wasn't eating but she had a pint of Cider that was pretty good and the German beer I had (forgot the name) was average but not amazing. In terms of the service our waitress was very friendly but when I tried to ask her some fairly basic (in my mind) questions about the beer she was clueless. She was also a bit "in your face" when talking to us, which was a bit unnerving. Overall the only reason I went to Darcy's was geography. I couldn't see myself going out of the way to go there, which is sad because the location is excellent. read more
