When we started planning our Ottawa trip, I was excited to discover that we'd be staying close to a local brewery called Flora Hall. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this place exceeded my expectations considerably. I showed up at around 7:00 on a Tuesday and the place was already hopping. I snagged a spot at the bar and started off with a pint of their North East IPA. It was seriously delicious. For food, I decided to check out the Burger ("potato bun/ fresh ground beef/ cheese/ mustard/ ketchup/ lettuce/ onion/ pickle"). I was hoping it would be tasty but it far exceeded my expectations. This is one delicious hamburger. Everything works really well together, from the smashed patty to the toasted (yet soft) bun to the various toppings. The menu recommended pairing it with the American Oat Pale Ale and that's exactly what I did. It was a perfect combo. Flora Hall is exactly the kind of awesome, low-key brewery that I love visiting. I'm sure I'd be there all the time if I lived in the area.

probs one of the best Brew Pub I've been. I like when house draft is made in house with pots and barrels. They also got taco Tuesday and Monday Happy Hour all day for heavy drinkers. Second floor lounge has bourbon and scotch whiskey, and it looks like a good lounge. I wonder why these babes were not in the menu or extended ones, so do customers keep their bottles here so they can go to quiet space and drink whiskey than the owner availing these for more inclusivity? I would enjoy this space with whiskey lol.

The vibe in this place is so nice that invite you to visit again and again. The brewery offers interesting flavours but nothing I have not seen before elsewhere however, the food was very good, great choices in a small menu that doesn't need more... just perfect. Server and host were kind and friendly all the time.

I rarely doc stars based on service, however I am going to in this case. Flora Hall Brewing is a cool building on a neat neighborhood street. The three beers I tasted were OK to excellent, depending on style. The food I had was good, four stars. Both beer and food are a bit pricey. The reason for only 3 stars is the look and reception I got when I arrived. I'm from put of town, first time here. "Wait to be seated," OK, but the wait was pretty long for how busy it was. Then the woman who came over gave me a look like I was a recurring visiting vacuum salesman - very sour and unwelcoming. I had to say, just for one please, and then she took me to a seat. Sat upstairs and the server there was fine. The same unwelcoming woman delivered my food and was already looking away when she set the set the plate in front of me and said enjoy your meal. Maybe she had a bad day. Doesn't matter - in the service industry you have to suck it up and be at least somewhat pleasant.

Not guacamole! Yum. Tons of vegan options.

Not very happy here. Staff was a little rude, took a lot away from the whole experience which is too bad because the place seems to have a decent ambiance. Not sure if I will go back any time soon. Friends had burger and a vegan dip which they say was good.

*Updated* Service- mixed reviews, not super friendly. Food - the charcuterie plate with mussels was not as expected. Food option seemed to be Indian fusion inspired. Beer - cherry sour beer was good, oat beer decent, and some average beers. Upstairs is cosy and warm. They didn't let us sit there because the table for four had six chairs. So they were saving it for a party of six even though downstairs both long tables were free. She wasn't pleasant either. Downstairs feels more modern and its cold. Wore my coat. No flights available. Isn't easy to get samples. Can get $5 for 7 ounce pour. The charcuterie board - The House Pickled items came with a tiny dish of pickled grapes, pickled celery. Mussels were served directly from can. Spanish olives half of them have anchovies stuffed inside but they don't mention it on the menu or from the staff. Bread was so so and homemade. Sad board, wish I had gone with the grilled cheese. Bf: "even if I won the lottery I'd feel bad spending my money here" Basic brewery. Really wished to have a great spot here.

Comfortable spot, welcoming staff, and contemporary decor! I went upstairs to get out of the heat and try one of their many beer types. They also carry a full liquor bar and several taps from "guest" breweries. For lunch, I ordered the bulgogi chicken wings. These wings were blanketed in korean goodness, were also crispy instead of soggy. The meat was bountiful and satisfying. The overall flavor was bold, smokey, gradually spicy (still blew my nose!), and not sweet at all. Back home I'm used to bulgogi flavor being really sweet and I highly appreciate this difference. I wish I had more time to enjoy the ambiance and additional beer selections. If you're ever in Ottawa, give this place a try!

One of my local favourites! Have been here for drinks multiple times in the past but this was my first time ordering food. We got the brisket in the picture. Prices are slightly expensive and the portion sizes aren't huge but the food is SO high quality and delicious and it's barbequed using their charcoal BBQ. For drinks, you really can't go wrong. I'm not a huge beer drinker myself and don't love IPAs but their Farmhouse Saison is delicious as are their Sours. Very friendly service and can't wait for them to open up the inside as there is so much seating inside and the patio is always busy because of how delicious it is!

I would say that the selling point here is the atmosphere; there are 2 floors, wood everywhere, and it's super cozy with high ceilings. If you want to come here to relax for a while or enjoy time with a group, this would be a great spot! However, there were only a few beer varieties on tap, and most seemed hoppy/were IPAs. I tried a cider, and decided to leave to get food elsewhere. Service is attentive at first, but to pay you might need to get the attention of the server.

La Taverna - Pulled pork croquettes

This place is such a gem! We came to have a drink and some eats before walking to Bluesfest. I…read morethink it's meant to be more of a tapas/small plates/shareable food menu. There's a larger patio in the back/side (separated by a wooden fence) with games, but we sat on the front patio and it was a lot more chill. We were a party of four and sat next to the fence. The table and chairs were a bit rickety and it was a pretty tight, so were thankful our server cleared our table often. My husband ordered a tall can of local City Goose California IPA and I ordered the grapefruit Old Fashioned. I thought the Old Fashioned was a nice refreshing change from a regular Old Fashioned, and not too strong. It had Bulleit Bourbon, Dolin vermouth, orange bitters, grapefruit juice, and smoked orange rind. Just what I was looking for on a hot summer day on the patio for someone like me, who isn't into super sugary drinks. Our friends had been a few times before and ordered the house fries. They're not just regular fries - they have honey chili, scallions, and sesame seeds. They were delicious and definitely meant for sharing. Our friends said the last order of fries they had were crispier, but my husband and I thought they were still quite crispy and more sticky than saucy, if that makes sense. They also ordered an off-menu garlic aioli with it, which I would absolutely recommend. What are fries without dip? On our friends' recommendation, my husband ordered the pulled pork croquettes. Even the server said it was one of their most popular menu items and that he wished they made a ton of them to eat like Timbits haha. They had beer-braised pulled pork, chimichurri, topped with house beer BBQ demi glace and scallions. I had a taste (of course), and they really were tasty. Nice and crispy on the outside and much meatier than I expected, with minimal breading, and not too salty. I ordered the salmon ceviche. I was worried that it would be cooked salmon (I've mistakenly made the assumption in the past that it was raw), but our server confirmed that it was true ceviche, with raw salmon that was "cooked" in the acidity of the citrus. It was 7oz of salmon, charred cobbed corn, plantain chips, and charred jalapeno. It also came with thinly sliced red onions and cilantro on top of the salmon, and, to my surprise, a side of mixed salad greens, as well as a citrusy green dressing. The jalapenos weren't spicy at all (no seeds other than one stray), and the corn was tasty, but I cut off the kernels so that it was easier to eat all together. It was the perfect light and refreshing meal for that day, yet still filling and extremely satisfying. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and attentive as well. The door to the indoor part of the restaurant was open, not sure if there's no air conditioning or they just chose not to turn it on. The washroom was clean but a very tight space, even for little ol' me. I would absolutely come back here!

Servers were really friendly getting us situated with our daughter and the wagon we use to transport her around. Very family friendly as we saw several other parents with strollers as well. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.

My husband had the duck salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite the place not being busy, service was slow. I had and will always order their freaking amazing fish and chips that are cooked to a perfect golden brown crisp. Portion is quite large but I believe the price is very fair and can be split between 2 people with a smaller appetite. I will be posting a picture of the dish because the presentation is beautiful! Details about my dish: The fries are shoe string cut seasoned fries that are damn good. You get 3 filets of haddock that are never soggy with a perfect amount of crisp. The tartar sauce is paired with an alternative guacamole type spread that is equally as quite tasty. Ask for garlic mayo and it is great on the fish and chips or with the fries. There is a salad in the centre with mixed lettuce and a vinaigrette sauce that is also great... But not as great as the fish!
