O'Brien's is a local pub for your average guy. Nothing fancy here... just good food, good beer and great company. Don't let the shabby outside fool you; the pub is friendly and warm within. Sure, the pictures and posters don't match and the bannisters are falling out of the floor, but it's cozy. Last visit my friends and I had a pitcher of beer and tonnes of wings (current price $0.40/wing). The place was incredibly busy and the poor, lone girl staffing had to serve all the tables AND mind the bar. Translation: slowish service and slightly cold wings but we were in no hurry and could kick back and relax. read more

Verdict: food was good, but the ambiance was, well, a bit off. To put this as straightforward as possible, the food that we ordered, the pizza, was phenomenal. It was reasonably priced, and was easily enough for two hungry people with a slice leftover. Regarding the ambiance/location, the best way I can describe it is that it was anyone's guess as to whether or not our car was still going to be in the parking lot when we left, and it was mid-afternoon. I would strongly advise avoiding the establishment on a Saturday evening, or, well, any evening for that matter. My son , my mum and I went there this evening for dinner . Our server was rude , didn't introduce herself. My son ordered a steak with fries , med rare , it came back very well done . My son, being a polite young man, attempted to eat it , he took a couple of bites and didn't eat anymore . When he told the server , she asked if he wanted another one ,he said no, my mum and I were already done . He asked for just ceasar salad . She offered no apology nothing ...Not acceptable for the food industry . He was very polite to her , and she was VERY RUDE , and unprofessional ! WE will NEVER return to this place read more

Great place for getting together after work. The prices are awesome for the amount of food! You get a pizza pan sized poutine for $6. The service is great, they even have started to know us by faces (this could be a good or bad thing haha) Definitely worth checking out, friendly neighbourhood bar with great food :) read more

O'Brien's is just around the corner from our new apartment in Ottawa, so immediately it became "our local hangout". It is a cozy little pub with great beer (at GREAT prices!) and a great deal on wings. There are a number of big flat-screen TVs featuring sports and the music is a mix of vintage and new-ish rock. The menu features all your pub favourites and features a lot of package deals (pizza and beer and wings and beer deals) - which is SO cool in a city as expensive as Ottawa. And, best of all, O'Brien's has karaoke every Friday and Saturday night. If you go for the karaoke, beware of the guy who sings Tom Jones - that will be me! read more

A little racism with your karaoke, perhaps? It gives me no pleasure to say that the karaoke experience there would have been great, if not for the server, who claimed she was the manager. Black lives don't matter to her, I'm afraid. First she served my husband a rum and coke with no rum in it. That was strike one. Then, when two people left a table, we left our barstools to take their place. We were told no, we keep these tables for larger groups. Clearly not true... only two people were sitting there before. That was strike two. We didn't wait for strike three. We paid our bill, and will not be going back. The woman at the barstool table beside us was sitting alone at a table for three. She asked us why the server wouldn't let us sit at that other table, about the same size as hers. Because she's racist, I answered. What happened to the owner, a great guy who welcomed Blacks years ago? I remember going to that same karaoke night and having so much fun at his restaurant. This doesn't even feel like the same place. Owner guy, if you're reading this, I remember you. You're wonderful, but your server/manager lost you two customers for good. read more

I had a nice vegetarian pizza at O'Brien's as a solo diner at the bar on a Friday night arriving around 9:00pm. The bartender was quite the entertainer pouring, drawing, mixing, shaking and performing sleigh-of-hand with a butterfly-bottle-opener! There was a Sens game in progress and the spirit of the crowd was high and infectious. It was too loud to talk and i conducted my whole visit in gestures as i have a quiet voice. Service was good, and buses there and back on the 112 went smoothly. I am happy to have discovered a weekend spot in my own neighborhood. There was no sign of karaoke, tho. I guess there's none on game nights. The only thing that discouraged me from staying later was the music which was awful disco / dance music which seemed inappropriate for a sports bar / pub. I have a very low tolerance for that type of music and i left before i was ready to, just to get away from it. How about some nice rock music, O'Brien's, or even newer alt rock -- something with some robust guitars and feelings to it instead of that annoying saccharine disco??? I'll go back -- i'm glad i didn't let the humble exterior discourage me, it's actually quite nice inside. Perhaps an earlier visit during the dinner hour would be better for a solo experience. With soda, tax, and tip it was a very reasonable $15. Well worth the trip!!!. Happy pubbing! read more

The pros: very good food, excellent service The cons: we went on a Saturday night which is Karaoke night, provided by Dog and Pony Karaoke. Having gone to many different Karoakes over the years, I have to say, this one is the worst one I've ever experienced. Firstly, and most problematic, despite having a sound board, the sound quality was absolutely abysmal. WAY too heavy bass, and more importantly the singer's mike was always too low. At first, I thought they were simply soft singers not singing into the mike, but as the night wore on, it was clear that it wasn't the singers as every single singer had the same problem. It was confirmed when my sister finally got her turn to go up to sing. She has an exceptionally powerful voice, but even she was drowned out by the music, including even the backup vocals (!). The DJ with curly black hair and glasses really ought to learn how a sound board works and adjust appropriately. Secondly, the DJ was completely inept at ordering the request slips. We arrived at the start of the night (9:30), but we didn't get our one (and only) turn until midnight, and only after going up to ask about it. Prior to this, there were other singers who had gone up 3-4 times and even a blonde lady who came in long after we submitted our requests got her turn before we did. My advice to O'Briens - consider a different Karaoke provider if you want to sustain your business on Friday/Saturday nights. We will not return. read more

My buddy and I went on a Saturday night. It was karaoke night, to our surprise. I didn't think I'm a big fan of karaoke, until I went to O'Brien's. It definitely added some excitement to the night! We each ordered wings and despite their small sizes, the quantity and quality made up for that. They tasted good! The waitresses were really friendly and homey! Prices were extremely reasonable! Very rude staff. Would refuse to pour drinks unless their tip was 15% or more. Tipping a buck on drinks that took under 30 seconds to pour is reasonable, but the staff refused to hand the drinks over unless they got a larger tip. Same goes for getting food. The waitress demanded a tip before food was even ordered. What sort of wait staff does that? A tip is reward good service. Unfortunately, there isn't any at O'Briens. read more

This pub is small, old, a bit run down but is full of the regulars. It a neighbourhood watering hole with a pretty loyal clientele. I have ordered lunch from here a lot of times now and have rarely been disappointed. Lunch specials like a big plate of lasagne is about $7.50! They serve a red from a microbrewery; gristone red...so good. And a pitcher is about 15 bucks. They have 40 cents wings specials Monday to Wednesday. The wings are a bit on the smaller side but the flavours from the sauces is good. They have karaoke Fridays and Saturdays. This is a good place to catch a game and booze up on the cheap! If you are looking for a casual pub to hang out at, this could be an option. read more

O'Brien's for me was a lovely surprise to discover. Looking quite spiffy since renovations, good food and affordable drinks are served by above-and-beyond friendly staff. It's an after-work favourite amongst my friends. For those not fond of the deep-fried, cheese-laden traditional pub fare, O'Brien's also serves tasty fresh hummus and tabbouli. The business info indicates that the pub isn't child-friendly, with which I would have to disagree. I've been there early evening and at lunchtime with my two kids and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. It was a very clean, safe environment in which to eat with the little ones. All in all, pretty impressive for a place I first deemed skeezy from the look of it when I moved to Ottawa ten years ago. read more

Lousy food and poor service with crappy attitude. Their pigeon wings are a joke and you get better pizza from a Pizza Pizza walkin special. Even though they renovated the exterior / interior ...its still a dump. Save yourself a night of leaning over the toilet. read more

Amazing servers, however, terrible food. We've come here for over two months (weekly) because of the servers and it's local. The nachos are the worst we've had, the fries over cooked, and the Lebanese platter is shameful. Great ambiance for swilling beer and conversation. Anything else is disappointing. read more

Very nice place inside. When pulling in I was a little unsure. I ordered a pitcher and 21 wings not sure why the 1 but they were very good and would go back even though the bill was just a little on the high side. And I was in and out with in one hour and the people were very friendly. $33 read more

If you like local pubs, this one is the best. I have nothing to complain about. It can get busy on weekends with the karaoke. On weekdays, it has the perfect mix of busy and quiet. The recently renovated it too. Nothing fancy, but not dingy either. My only reservation is that there were some bikers or something that used to hang out there a lot, but not anymore. read more
