Admittedly, I am not usually a huge fan of chain restaurants, and much prefer independently owned "mom and pop" kind of places, but I was at this Milestones recently and I was quite impressed. I had dinner there with my husband and father-in-law and overall everyone enjoyed their meals. We started with the Wham-Bam Shrimp Appetizer ($14.50). It was breaded and deep fried shrimp tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce, with a chipotle aioli dipping sauce on the side. This appetizer was excellent. I loved the spicy kick to it and the sweetness made it not too hot. I also liked that the entire shrimp was peeled, including the tail. I had the Surfside Salad ($23) which was mixed greens, pineapple and tomato salsa, avocado, grilled salmon and 4 grilled shrimp. The mixed greens were a mesclun mix with some romaine (thankfully no iceberg lettuce) and all fresh, no wilted pieces. The avocado was also ripe and green with no black or rotten pieces. The salmon was nicely seasoned and grilled. The shrimp while a good size, were way too salty for my liking :( However, this was the only disappointing thing about my dish. I asked for the dressing on the side and it arrived as requested. And overall, I liked the salad. My husband had the Wagyu Meatloaf ($25) which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables (bell peppers and asparagus). He liked his meal but commented that the meatloaf was a bit salty. My father-in-law had the Grilled Sirloin ($26) which usually comes with vegetables and roasted potatoes, but he asked for fries instead of roasted potatoes and they were ok with that. He asked for his steak medium-well "with some pink in the middle," but he felt that his steak was overdone as there was "no pink in the middle." He still enjoyed his meal as he said the flavouring was excellent. They ended up discounting his steak by 25% which I thought was a nice gesture. The fries were shoestring fries (my favourite cut) and I had a few and they were delicious. Very crispy. Service was excellent. I was most impressed by the hostess who through the windows saw us coming with my father-in-law walking very slowly with his walker, and she came out and held the doors open for us. How nice was that? Our server (who was training a new employee that evening) was courteous and attentive. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and proactively asked about allergies and food restrictions. Decor is neat and modern. The restaurant is in The Kanata Centrum. The ambiance wasn't that great, i was expecting a fancy restaurant and wore a dress for the occasion but unfortunately, we were disappointed and overdressed. Even at the bar, the lighting wasn't great, the staff didn't check up on us even if there was no apparent rush, we had to call them to order a drink, everyone was in a rush and while we tipped them well , there wasn't much service provided really. We ordered the pesto penne chicken asiago and blue and black beef burger. The burger was one of the most expensive ones and it was not juicy at all. Overcooked and dry. The fries were cold and soggy. My penne chicken had a sour taste and there wasn't much chicken at all in the plate. it was filled with penne pasta and bell peppers , which was really okay but the sour taste quickly leaves an bad taste in your mouth. I'm not sure if the sourness and acidity are due to the excess parmesan or maybe because its overcooked with the parmesan ? i'm not an expert but needless to say, I'm never having that again . We don't go to Milestones that often, but this was the 2nd time we've been to this location - both times being in the same year. Whoa! First time was celebrating a birthday; 2nd time was "just because", with some friends. I ordered what I wanted and it was tasty, but this is an upscale restaurant as far as prices go. We sat near the front door, and my seat was facing the entrance, which was perfect because I love to people watch! Sure enough, someone else I know came in; and I happen to know she had just cause to celebrate! The greeters at the front door are all very pretty young ladies, all wearing tight and short black dresses, but the serving staff was not dressed that way. One greeter looked a bit uncomfortable, pulling it down in the front of her dress as if it kept creeping up (it's funny what you remember!) However, the service was attentive, which I appreciated. As for the food, it was very tasty. Although I asked for my steak to be done medium, and I had a discussion with the waitress that that meant "pink not red inside", it still came out more red than I would have liked. But it was juicy and tasty. It will be interesting to see how this place fares, with their latest competition in the neighbourhood: The Keg just opened up at Hazeldean and Huntmar. Maybe it won't make a difference? A little competition is healthy. The service and the food were very good here; I can't complain. However, due to the prices, we won't be eating there too too often. This was a beautiful restaurant. The interior is very classy with dim lighting for ambience. The staff were all very friendly. The waitress gave me tips on the drinks I was ordering and I'm very grateful for that. She saved me from wasting my money on drinks I wouldn't have liked and were strong with alcohol. I had the lobster and shrimp bisque and it was delicious! The cheesecake was also delicious. The bellini is a favourite drink and you can't go wrong. It's a definite must try. The prices are a little above average but not bad. They have some pretty awesome daily specials like their Monday girls night/boys night and their Wednesday date nights. They also serve brunch on the weekends. Overall, I will return. My only complaint was that the waiter messed up on distributing our scene points. He put them all on the first card he received so the rest of us didn't get our points, which sucked but wasn't the end of the world. read more

The music is never too loud. Just a very comfortable atmosphere. The menu selection is great - pastas, burgers, fish, chicken dishes, vegetarian options, sandwiches...etc. I'm a pretty picky eater, and I have loved everything I have eaten. The food is always so fresh and perfectly made. Never cold, over cooked or undercooked. For a fancier place, the portions are huge too. I am always stuffed when I leave. Went to Milestones today, in Kaata, we go almost every weekend. Had the usual, eggs benny. Eggs and ham were completely cold. Waitress was good. Told her about eggs and they took $3.00 of the bill We have been going there for years. They could have at least taken the coffee off. We will have to rethink breakfast there. read more

I've been to both this location and the one off Pinecrest Rd and I have to say there's an issue with consistency between the two. Don't get me wrong the food here is great but I find that the food at the Pinecrest one is consistently better. My recommendations are the Pesto Chicken Penne Asiago and the Stacked Burger. Service however at both locations is amazing. An example of this is when I've dined with my kids, and I only order a kids meal for them to share. They go above and beyond and split the meal into two plates so the kids each have their own plate. In addition to this they even give them each their own drink, and each their own dessert despite me only ordering 1 meal. Great place to enjoy good food with good company and good service!! We went on a Monday, which allowed us to have the Monday night special of 4 Bellini's and 4 appetizers for $40. It was great for our group and from there we ordered a few entrées. I had the chicken portobello pasta, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There are two reasons this restaurant is not 5 stars. One, they recently revoked their military discount, which I think is a shame. Second, half of the tables are enclosed by decor that I can only describe as a wooden cage. We sat at a table that was "cage-free", but were I to sit there I would feel as if I'm eating a meal behind bars. Photo to follow. Hubby and I came here last night for dinner and were very happy with the service. The waitress was friendly and happy, even when we needed more time because we couldn't make up our minds on the menu hehe. Hubby got the prime rib slider and the Thai Curry Bowl while we shared the Yam Frites and I got the Chicken Pesto Penne Asiago. The apps were good though the mains were slightly less impressive. The curry bowl was really dry so that just may be a kitchen choice but hubby was expecting more of a curry curry bowl with the sauce and all. The Asiago pasta was quite a bit heavier than I expected so it made it slightly difficult to eat though it was tasty. so we tried this on a Wednesday night for the "date night" deal. We were very pleasantly surprised. Although we couldn't get a place on the patio because we showed up "late".. 6pm! lol it was super warm weather and everyone had the same idea, we settled for the air conditioned dining room and it was just fine. A little chilly under the direct vent, but the wine warmed us up :0 We started with a shared breaded calamari which could easily have been the run of the mill bouncy like bubble gum wrapped in greasy breading, but it wasn't. It was light, tender and moist. Very pleased with our choice. I had the salmon as my main dish, and my main squeeze had the steak frites. Again, pleasantly surprised as the salmon (although likely a frozen fillet) was not overcooked and quite moist was served over a very lovely nest of wild rice and fresh bok choy. My husband's steak was surprisingly tender, with an au jus sauce and parmesan fries. Delissshhhh We finished with the shared white chocolate cheesecake. Knew it wasn't house made, but still tasty and just enough for the both of us. This Wednesday night date night special for $50 is brilliant as far as I'm concerned. Oh and the wine is $5 dollars off the bottles. What's not to love? read more

Milestones Kanata is a very nice restaurant. New, clean, modern. Nice looking staff who are friendly and accommodating. The ambiance is lively. The food is really good, although the portions are a little on the small side. I had the portobello mushroom chicken with capellini pasta. The chicken was absolutely delicious but the pasta I could take or leave. I would order the chicken again but would ask for something other than pasta. Mashed potatoes might have been a good option. My husband and friends ordered the steak, salmon and halibut dishes. Everyone said their dishes were very good. We all shared the dessert sampler - 5 small shot glasses, each with a different dessert. To be perfectly honest the flavours were underwhelming and I'm not sure how fresh the desserts were. I wouldn't order that particular dessert again. We sat on the side that had the bar. The wooden table where we were seated had a rustic look and feel to it. The rustic finish on the table made for a less than even tabletop which looked cool but made for very tippy and spilly glasses. It wasn't really functional for drink glasses and the drink spilling from the wobble got annoying very quickly. My wife and I decided to go to Milestones for lunch today. A few weeks ago, we tried Milestones in Kanata after getting bored of some of the local restaurants. We like to sit at the bar so we can watch live sports coverage like hockey or curling. The bartending staff are always friendly and love to chat with their clients. Also, the food is exceptional. Today I ordered the Cajun seafood bowl and I was really surprised at how good it was. The Cajun spice had just the right amount of heat without being overbearing. My wife ate the spinach, feta, tomato omelette and she said it was the "best omelette I have ever had". This place is absolutely fantastic. This is our goto spot now when we want high quality food and great service. I know I'm sounding like an info commercial but if you read some of my reviews, you will see I don't compliment very often. :-) read more

Not withstanding the delay in service (almost 1 hour) somewhat understandable given that it was father's day. The quality of the Roma Chicken Parmesan order was much less than what was expected. Specifically the chicken was dry (over cooked), the Parmesan crust was burnt and the advertised roma tomato sauce was not included also the pasta was mushy/overcooked (also) and needed copious amounts of water to ingest. Typically I would have returned the order/complained, but given the amount of time to receive the order and given the other guest's orders were apparently good, I just wanted to leave... I should note, that we (party of 3) were offered a complimentary dessert related to the delayed service, but after talking my wife's dessert order the waitress quickly disappeared not asking my son, nor I what we might want. My wife, family and I have been to Milestones numerous times over the past (months / years), but we will think twice in the future. This establishment has definitely gone down hill! read more

We went here tonight to celebrate a graduation. Despite the restaurant being 3/4 empty on a Tuesday night, service was extremely slow. We ordered a soup while we were getting our drinks ordered, asking the server to bring it as soon as possible (our daughter had not eaten all day). The drinks arrived after a while, and our main course order was taken. The soup arrived 35 minutes after the order was placed, with the excuse that it was delayed to coincide with another appetizer. When the server was reminded that we wanted the soup earlier, he simply shrugged and walked away. After over an hour waiting for the main course, we simply gave up and asked for the check. An adjoining table also complained that they waited over an hour for their meals to arrive. This restaurant normally performs much better, and the manager seemed sympathetic but no answer was given for the excruciatingly slow service. On the plus side, both the soup and the calamari were well prepared. Too bad the wait was too long to sample the entrees... Had the server paid more attention to his job, this could have been a positive experience. Unfortunately, we will now have to find another venue to celebrate tomorrow. read more

The service was awesome, the food was delicious and totally worth the price we paid. The restaurant has LOTS of parking (especially since the Futureshop is closed now). And the inside is white enough that you can talk but segmented enough that you never feel like people can hear everything you say. Coffee was delicious too. read more

Great place. Celebrated B-day. Got complimentary surprise-dessert Yum for the occasion! Enjoyed our meals. Food was very good. We were seated in a booth and it felt Cozy. Waiter was super nice and wanted to go extra to get you excellent service. Can't remember her name, was so busy eating and chatting. Shame on me! Had Mediterranean Chicken. Was juicy and tasteful. The food was presented beautifully. Use of different quality oils and great spices for sure! Also, we had an appetizer Platter to share with all four of us. Was delicious, I would order that again for sure next time. We were quite full after that alone. Soup had interesting flavour and quite filling for a starter. Others got Presto Chicken Penne Asiago- great and tasteful. Could not finish it, after that starter! Slow Roasted Prime Rib, which was also very good-looked like half raw initially, but it appears it was marinated and very slow cooked. Not bad. It came with a salad on another plate. Portions are huge for that. Another ordered salmon - was very soft and had lots of different spices, which are just delicious and mouthwatering. So we go here quite often. I can count on one hand how many times I've ever sent back food I really don't like doing it but the steak i got was way overdone. There were a couple other temperature issues with food in this visit.They were very apologetic and sent another steak and the manager asked me to cut in to it to see if it was done the way i ordered it. Unfortunately it was not. The manager was very apologetic. The service tried hard but the their kitchen just wasn't doing well. I will go back, it has never happened before but I hope they read this and take corrective measures because it's a nice place and nice staff so it would be a shame to see the quality slip. It was a birthday as well so it was a bit of a bummer. Update: they did read this and take corrective measures. Almost immediately. I have tried to add a star but the system won't allow so plse keep this in mind one extra star as the restaurant has been in touch, looked into the issue and we are looking forward to returning. I want readers to keep in mind that anyone can take your money when things go perfect but things happen and the mark of a good business is shown when things don't go as planned. We feel valued and will return! I believe in modern times business is a two way street between the customer and the business. It's not easy to run a restaurant or any other establishment in this day and age so great customer service is paramount and in the reverse extra effort from a satisfied customer to support the business is important.
