Service: Great. Greeted at the door as soon as we walked in (no reservations) and found us a table right away. Waitress was great and food was delivered fast. Food: great. We just ordered appetizers. Don't make a mistake like we did and order too much! Portions were huge. Complimentary bread and olive oil with balsamic was delicious. Lettuce wedge was fresh with just the right amount of dressing, meatballs were huge and good, and the flatbread was great with arugula and large pieces of garlic. Saw a couple next to us share a lasagna. Definitely enough to share.

Stopped by for dinner with a friend a few weeks ago. Had an enjoyable time and a very attentive server. The restaurant does get quite smoky though. I ordered the lasagna ($23). It was super tasty and filling - super cheesy just the way I like it, and came with two pieces of really delicious garlic bread. My friend got the linguini pescatore and it was really delicious as well! Good portion sizes and flavor.

We went on a week night so there were not a lot of people. Staff were friendly and food came out fast! Everything we ordered was delicious. Nice place for grownups to hang out after work.

ok so plating is a bit of a mess but taste was pretty mediocre. like definitely a positive but not really much of a strong positive? the pasta tasted kind of microwaved (middle was explosively hot while the outside was normal), the sauce had oil separation which isn't always fun but the taste was good. portion sizing was good. service was nice. place was pretty busy and relatively loud on a Friday night, they had a really nice looking patio area as well

I'm back, obviously. This place is seriously the best. This time I can with my parents as they were visiting me and since I've been hyping this place up, they had to come try it for themselves. We got the Calamari Fritti, Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad (unpictured), Linguini + meatballs, Johnny Farina Penne, Rigatoni, and Dessert trio. The calamari was amazing. Crispy, flavourful, and amazing. The red pepper aioli was to die for. The strawberry goat cheese salad was really good as well, but def not the star of the night. For the pastas, I was expecting smaller dishes, but oh my god did Johnny Farina come in clutch. The portions were HUGE. Definitely worth the $$!!! The pasta was cooked perfectly. Chewy, but not overdone. The pomodoro sauce was *chefs kiss*. The meatballs were so good. Not too salty, not too fatty, just perfect. Each dish had their own uniqueness. I loved loved loved the Alfredo of the penne. Did I mention how amazing the dessert was? The trio comes with three desserts half size, but the size of the tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding would be regular size at most restaurants. Each dessert in the trio was superb! However, I wish the cannoli was filled through all the way. I know the full size one is stuffed but the smaller ones were hollow :/ The tiramisu was light and fluffy, the sticky toffee pudding was sweet and the ice cream went with it perfectly. Never misses. Johnny Farina, you've done it again. 10/10.

Pizza Take-out Review: Overall: A solid Neapolitan style pizza with good flavour and toppings. Service: We walked up and the hostess was quick at taking our order. The pizza was ready in roughly 15 minutes. Taste: We ordered the Diavolo and the Carbonara pizzas. The Diavolo was the perfect mix of sweet and spicy and I loved it. The Carbonara comparatively had less taste. I would say stick to the Rosso(red) sauce pizzas as the sauce itself was incredibly good. Presentation/Look: Is there anything sexier than pizza? Pizza was well put together and I was extremely excited to get at it! Price: This is a tough one for me as I feel prices have gone up everywhere so I don't know what's a good value anymore. Two medium size-ish pizzas were $45, personally felt like it was a lot but burgers are $25 now so who knows! Would I go again? Yes! I want to try all the red sauce pizzas!

The food here was pretty good and the serving sizes were very big, the environment also made the restaurant feel like it was very old. The servers were also very nice and welcoming, however they were also very slow to bring out the food.

3.5/5 I came to this restaurant a few years ago and at the time my husband and I really enjoyed our food. After coming back to Ottawa again (we usually come 1-2 times a year) we decided to try this place again since it was so close to our hotel and we needed somewhere to eat for lunch (and not all restaurants were open on Family Day). They did have a table which I was able to reserve (there were 6 of us) and together we ordered 3 pizzas and 3 pastas. I didn't try the other couples' orders but I will do a review of the two that we got and we did share an appetizer for our table. Pasta- we ordered the Johnny Farina penne and we changed it to a pomodoro sauce since I have a lactose issue. They were more than happy to change it. The pasta was good but I felt the ratio of sauce and pasta was a bit off in that there was more sauce than pasta... and compared to our other friends who ordered linguine they got a lot more pasta than we did, so we felt the dish was on the heavy salty side as a result since there wasn't enough pasta to balance it out. The pizza we also changed to tomato sauce instead of the pesto base for the seafood pizza (fruitti di mare). The pizza was wood fired oven baked and was very good, we def enjoyed our pizza very much. The toppings weren't as generous and some slices there was only one or two seafood things on them and just cheese. So def toppings they could've improved for this particular pasta. Our friend ordered the same pizza and felt the same way. The third couple ordered Canadian pizza and toppings were good on theirs so just seems to be some inconsistency with the toppings. The calamari. I do wanted to like it and eat it for that matter. The first time there was no seasoning on it. Literally just batter and the aioli but it's supposed to come with some sort of Cajun seasoning which was clearly missing. It was quite bland. We sent it back and the waitress didn't give us a new order. We then asked the manager for the dish and told him there wasn't seasoning before so just wanted to make sure this time there's seasoning. The second time we got it, all I could taste was salt. It was as if they did 2-3x seasoning. We even told the waitress to try it because it was so disgustingly salty. I think it was a misinterpretation in that they thought there wasn't enough seasoning the first time when it was actually a LACK of seasoning. Anyway they did not charge us for the calamari. I was disappointed. And the calamari was just okay nothing special, aside from the seasoning ordeal. I def like their pastas and pizzas but there seem to be some inconsistencies this time which made the experience not the greatest.

This was a great place to host a large birthday dinner. I came here for my bestie's birthday and the experience was great. Great Italian restaurant that serves great pasta and pizza. The food was delicious and the service was great! Fast and friendly service. Dinner comes with complimentary bread, which was baked light and fluffy. I ordered a seafood pasta and it was delicious. The price was fair and the restaurant was just a classy place to catch up with friends. I would definitely come back to try other things on the menu.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. We were staying in Byward market area. Then I found this place - highly reputed among locals for its sandwiches using high quality deli meat and condiments from eastern Europe. They are open at 9am! Perfect! Nice little deli with one table in the store. Take-out spot. We got the following: # Turkey sandwich: Thick cut, generous turkey slices (taste like actual tender turkey breast) with lettuce, pickle, tomato, mayo, mustard, and roasted red pepper spread. Paired with smoked cheese slice. It was DELICIOUS. What set this apart from other sub/sandwich places is the use of roasted red pepper spread. It is a game changer. Bread (Kaiser) is fresh, crispy on the outside, slightly sweet and light interior, perfect for the rich meat slices. # Schnitzel sandwich: Pork schnitzel topped with sauerkraut salad and served on a toasted Kaiser. This was a bit disappointing - the schnitzel was very hard and dry. However, the sauerkraut salad and again, the roasted red pepper spread was perfect accompaniment. # Homemade Vienna cheesecake: Delicious!!! $2.99 per cake, homey taste. Fresh and light, with a hint of orange. Although I expressed negative for their schnitzel this time, I still want to rate 5. Affordablity, quality of cold cuts, selection of bread and choice of toppings and seasoning, and pleasant and efficient customer service- they do have something very special that I really want to recommend here highly. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. ARRIVAL: -I was in Ottawa from nyc for a couple days for work in September of 2022 (last year). I wrote this review then, but forgot to post it. -I came here in the afternoon on a weekday. There were a few tables occupied, but the place was largely empty. -When I was there, it was not actually open 24 hours. I could not find the hours posted anywhere online. Google maps and several other places still listed it as 24-hour. I showed up around 11pm the night before, found out they were closed, and saw the hours posted on the door. So I came back the next day. FOOD/DRINK: -I had the Reuben w/ home fries because I wanted to try some of their "famous" smoked meet. -The sandwich tasted good and was a good amount of food for the price, but overall the quality was very average. The meat was sliced super thin, had a rubbery texture, and did not have a lot of flavor. -The home fries I had with the Reuben were above average though: perfectly crispy cubes of potato with soft, fluffy insides. SERVICE: -Servers were friendly and capable. ATMOSPHERE: -It's sort of like a mix of a sports bar and a diner. There are tons of tables and booths like a diner or chain restaurant, but with decor and style more like a bar. -The only real problem with my experience here is that there were wasps flying around my table. I was sat near a window and it was a nice day so all the doors and big windows were open. I know they were wasps because there were several of them, they landed on my table a few times, and I killed one. I know there's not a lot a restaurant can do about flying bugs like that, but they were there when I arrived and they were there an hour later when I left. I don't understand how no one noticed them or why they would still sit me near a window if they did. Maybe they mistook them for flies or bees, but either way someone could have offered to move me when they saw there were so many bugs flying around my area. One of the servers even commented on them as he walked by and then opened up more windows. I assume he was trying to give the wasps more ways to leave, but it just let in more. It really ruined my experience because I worried about getting stung and about them getting on my food the whole time.
