Awesome food, great service- 50 years and running. Business casual to casual dress w/ great lighting and atmosphere.

Went here for a family gathering and really enjoyed it. The place has a dark, intimate vibe that feels cozy. We ordered the escargot and fettuccine gamberi, and both were delicious. Service was great too--friendly and attentive. Solid spot for a nice dinner, would come back. read more

Lovely heritage building, cosy atmosphere. Interesting menu choices. I had the lamb ragu parpadelle which was tasty. It was a bit spicier than I expected but still very good. Service was verb friendly and attentive. Highly recommended! read more

Reservations were made for a Friday night. (Recommended.) You really are paying for the ambiance here. I found it pricey. It's a lovely old house, converted. Service was friendly yet polished and attentive. The food to me, was average for the prices. It was fine but nothing to rave about. The calamari was nice and light to start. The mains were a rigatoni with sausage and a seafood spaghetti. Italian is a fave of mine and I cook it often... I wouldn't get either of these dishes again but, hey, personal taste. Skipped dessert, left full and I had some leftovers to take home. I enjoyed the red wine. The bread was good too. I kept passing by this place wondering how it was. Now I know! I'd go back again and I would recommend it. It makes for a nice evening to throw on a dress and go here for something more special in terms of atmosphere. Parking in the rear of restaurant. read more

What an awesome, family style Italian restaurant. I had two dinners plan with customers this trip to Ottawa, and my colleagues recommended this Italian restaurant for one of them. We started off with a couple of platters that featured sausage, calamari, fried zucchini, and much more. For my entrée, I selected the Fettucine Gamberi. It was served with shrimp and scallops. Very flavorful and filling. I was not a fan of the mixed drinks, and neither were some of my colleagues. I recommend soft drinks and wines here. Overall, it was a great experience, especially for a large private party. This place is most definitely worth making the visit. Bon Apetit. read more

Always excellent. True Italiano, family run with style and quality, extensive menu, historic stone house setting. Colleen Fraser read more

We ordered Fettuccine with shrimps to take out as all tables were sold. Stay away from their seafood dishes. They have no idea how to cook it correctly. They served it undercooked, which triggered severe food poisoning. The next day was my 40-year anniversary, and I had to spend all day in bed. They ruined all our plans. Never again!! read more

I love how the owners of Cabotto's have kept as much of the Victorian style house their restaurant is in original. It makes for a great atmosphere in a place that has historical relevance (read the framed article in their reception area to learn more). The food is rich and filled with flavour and their service is second to none. In fact, I am pretty sure that you will find no other place where you can get a great plate of pasta, and learn about a clandestine group who plotted against Canada. read more

We celebrated Valentine's day one day early - to avoid the crowds, but you wouldn't know there were less people on this date! It was busy enough: Eighteen tables around this one room of this converted house, and all were occupied, with a steady stream of patrons. I have to say that I've been to Cabotto's at this location once before - many years ago, and swore we'd never go back due to the bad experience at that time (a story for another day). However, this day we had different staff serving us, excellent service, delicious food, and it was all very pleasant. We made reservations, which was a good thing. I ordered a glass of red wine to complement my meal. We tried to order "different" food than we would normally make at home, so no spaghetti meat balls this time. What we did order were a garlic soup, and Pollo Amaretto, which is chicken with a sweet Amaretto sauce. There was enough on this plate to fill me and take home leftovers, for lunch the next day. The setting was nice - although the room was full, we were not right on top of the people beside us. The volume of noise in the room was not bad. Service was attentive without hovering over us; the waitress kindly filled our water glasses without being asked. All in all, the experience was enjoyable, which I did not expect here due to previous experience. As a result, I would consider going back. read more

My husband and I received a gift certificate for this Restaurant. My husband had the 3 pasta dish and I had the chicken Parmesan with a side of spaghetti bolognese. The chicken was fair, it was heavily breaded and dried up around the edges. The red sauce was a big disappointment. I immediately tasted a burnt flavour in the sauce. Without telling my husband I asked him to try my pasta. He also said the sauce tasted burnt. His 3 pastas all had the same red sauce, and they all tasted burnt. The fried zucchini was cut shoe string which took away from the zucchini; it would be better to cut the zucchini larger so it would not feel like you are eating fried batter! We both had the creme brûlée which was rich and delicious except it didn't hold its shape, it either didn't have enough yolks to firm up the custard or it didn't have enough time to chill. read more

Food and service is always fantastic. The ambience is also on point. one of my favourite Italian restaurants in Ottawa.

My husband, father-in-law and I went back to Cabotto's recently. I'm still giving it a solid 4 stars as the food and service were once again excellent. I wanted to update my review to say that the website now lists prices on the menu, which is great. You can read my previous review for my opinion of places that don't list their prices on their online menu. We were seated upstairs this time, near the bar. It's still very cozy and feels like an intimate setting. I started with the Italian salad ($11). It was romaine lettuce, spinach, artichokes, black olives, marinated roasted red peppers, peperoncinis and asiago cheese in an herb vinaigrette. The ingredients were fresh and the flavour combination was excellent. I loved that the olives had the pits removed. The asiago cheese was really sharp! My husband started with the roasted garlic soup ($8). He said it was creamy, rich and phenomenal. However, he reeked of garlic for 2 days. Not just his breath, but his hair, his body, everything. The stench of garlic was oozing out of his pores! You have been warned. (He did say it was worth it though). My father-in-law started with the escargot ($11). He liked it but felt there was too much cheese. I had the Salmon ($25) as my main. It was the most generous portion of salmon I have ever had at a restaurant (awesome!). The sauce was a honey dijon sauce. The salmon was nicely done. The salmon came with roasted potatoes which were ok, and an unusual mixture of julienne carrots, spinach and sliced almonds sautéed in a sweet and overly buttery sauce. I would have liked it more if it was less buttery/greasy and less sweet. My husband had the Veal Saltimbocca ($24), which was veal with prosciutto on top. His meal also came with roasted potatoes and the carrots, spinach, almond mixture. He really liked his dish. He also felt that the carrots, spinach, almond side dish was too buttery but he didn't find it too sweet. My father-in-law had the Fettuccine Gamberi ($26), which was fettuccine in a sundried tomato basil pesto with tiger shrimp and scallops. He was disappointed that the shrimp and scallops were not more plentiful. They were a good size, but only 3 of each. He did not feel that the seafood to pasta ratio was sufficient. He ate all the seafood and left most of the pasta. Overall, I was happy. I would return :) read more

My husband and I ordered a takeout meal from Cabotto's for Valentine's Day and we really enjoyed it. The meal was packaged perfectly, which doesn't seem like much but when you have salads, a main course and dessert. The container they go in makes a huge difference when you are eating them. The food was packed with flavour. All in all it was exactly what we needed - especially during these days. Thank you very much to Cabotto's for making our night. read more

Started with the bruschetta, it was absolutely delicious and plated very nicely. My main was Tortellini Sebastiano, it was absolutely delicious and there was perfection in how the pasta was cooked. My wife had the trio, she absolutely loved it. Would recommend eating here to anyone. read more

We recently went here for an anniversary dinner, and it was based on a number of recommendations from friends and family. We weren't dissapointed. Located in an old house near Stittsville, Cabotto's is still divided like a traditional houses, with tables located in different rooms. It adds to its charm for sure, and it's a very intimate atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and helpful in making wine suggestions. The food was delicious, we had the rack of lamb, and the fillet of sole, both were well-balanced, flavourful meals. We wish we had saved room for dessert, but we indulged in our main course instead. A place we will return to, and recommend to others. read more

Honestly was not a big fan of Italian, mostly because I've always felt that most of their food tastes the same since they consist of mostly just pasta dishes. I was told, however, that I only felt this way because I've never had real, authentic Italian. Whoever said that to me might have been right. This restaurant is pretty much just a big house, transformed into Cabotto's. I love it. I love the fact that it's an old cobblestone house. It adds to the feel of it actually being family owned. When you walk in, you will be greeted by the hostess, who will either seat you on the first floor if it's not crowded, or the second floor. Both floors have a separate kitchen! I ordered the Fettuccine Savuto, which is fettuccine pasta with chicken, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms in white wine basil pesto cream. I loved my dish! It was creamy and al dente, which is the way I enjoy my pasta! The Linguine Pescatore, linguine with black tiger shrimps, scallops, clams and mussels in a tomato sauce with fresh basil, was also very delicious! The house wine paired well with my food, and their tiramisu wasn't to bad, either. The entree dishes come in big servings, so make sure to keep your stomach empty before entering this restaurant, because you will definitely leave full. This restaurant is a bit pricey, but what authentic Italian restaurant isn't? Cabotto's has helped me appreciate Italian cuisine a lot more. I will be sure to come back. read more

A lovely and cozy little place in Stittsville, with a recently remodeled decor, adding to the overall enjoyment of your time spent at this establishment. The food isn't breaking any ground in creative cuisine but it tastes good, and you will leave satisfied...most likely with a to-go container, thanks to the more than generous portions. I had the braciole, a AAA angus steak, wrapped around gooey provolone, covered in a rich gravy, and it was so very yummy! The veggies accompanying the dish are grilled, which adds a bit of flavour and flare to what is usually decorative. I would stay away from the appetizers, as they are pretty ordinary and you will need the room for the main, which are totally worth it. Can't wait to go back! read more

We have frequented Cabotto's for several special occasions over the past 20 years because it is that kind of place: the special occasion place. My husband and I have never been disappointed. Last Thursday, I went with a group of friends and it was just as fabulous as I remembered. To enjoy Cabotto's fully, you need to slow the pace and savor the moment. Everyone single person in our group of 11 loved their meal. And as for me, other than the amazing veal Fiorentina, it was the side vegetables that conquered my heart. Move aside plain broccoli florets: this Julienne of tender and fresh vegetables perfectly seasoned were simply amazing! I appreciate a chef who puts as much love in the sides as he does the main. Cabotto's may be a bit pricier than your average spot but frankly, you should go! read more

This is really a very good Italian restaurant, in a west end area with not that much selection, very convenient to Scotiabank Place. Why don't we go here more often? read more

I went here last January to meet my boyfriends parents for the first time. To make things even more awkward I wasn't nearly dressed up enough as we were supposed to go to Napolis instead. With that being said cabottos is very dressy and highly pricey. The food is good but my 20$ gnocchi is not something is rave about. My boyfriend ordered the trio and that was a much better value and a very large portion. I didn't like the atmosphere either. It is beyond quiet and extremely intimate. read more

If you cannot tolerate the quiet of an adult eatery, and delicious Italian cooking causes your belly to do the Lambada, then avoid Cabotto's, one of the best restaurants in Ottawa. But seriously, you need to go there at least once, if you enjoy great food, great atmosphere and great service. I had the Italian wedding soup and my wife had roasted garlic soup. Both were excellent, although I liked hers more ( we always give each other at least one taste of our dish). The main dish for me was veal parmigiana, for my wife, veal marsala. The meat was exceptionally tender, the cheese was yummy melty, and the sauce, bellisimo. My stomach sent a Thank You card to my mouth. I had a lovely Chardonnay to add to the night. Great place for a date with someone you want to know better--you can actually hear each other talk. Didn't see any urchins, so check if you need a kid-friendly place. Cost was fair and reasonable. The bill came to about $103 plus a tip. Highly recommend. read more

I had went to this restaurant last night and I had tried there spaghetti and meatball and it took an hour just for the food for a table of 5 people to even be served to us and that was disappointing because there was a table of 2 that had ordered 20 minutes after our table and they had received there food before us. read more

Went there for our anniversary in 2015. Found the food ok but not great. The chairs were very uncomfortable where we were seated. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. The prices were too high for the quality of the food. This was my first visit and it was okay. The food was okay not great service was good. The hostess wore a fedora that was kinda odd but whatever. What I didn't like was people coming in with baseball caps jeans and t-shirts. I thought it was fine dining but there were lots of kids not dressed for a restaurant unless it's a food chain then its acceptable. I am more old school that when you go to a very nice restaurant you dress accordingly. Even adults were dressed like it was a diner.. Not sure if I would return but it was a nice night out. read more

Let's start with the entrance. It's kind of creepy. No one is there and I was expecting uncle fester to show up. It's very spooky. Not bright and welcoming. I would do something about the entrance. Then a guy walks up from behind. I felt like I was in a horror movie. Oh well enough of that. Then the poor guy had no idea where to seat me. There is a left side and right side. He picked the spooky side with no one in it. Said hey come in here and I'll turn the heat on. So just a side note for stupid people. It takes time to heat up a room. It's not instant. The bigger the room the more time. So thanks for freezing my nuts off. Stay in school people. So then I was told there was a cannelloni special. And that's it. So when the guy came to take my order I asked if there were any other specials and he was confused and said they didn't tell him anything. Ok who's relative is this. Who have this kid a job as a favour. There are professional servers that would love a job. Need to keep family out of the business. By the way I have been writing this while I'm waiting for my appetizer. The service for a slow place is not good. I can picture them in the back on google. Ok my smelts came. Let's get this right and clear they are fabulous. The temperature is right on. They are crispy and seasoned perfectly. When I make they don't come out this good. It's a good portion size. There are about 15 of them. I had this type of fish in Amalfi and it wasn't this good. Ok so now that's out of the way time to order something else. Yes I order in stages. It's a pain for the kitchen but I need to test them before I commit to the whole meal. Oh and I don't know who made this music play list but it's all my favourite Italian songs. I have to mention the most uncomfortable chairs I ever sat in. They are poor quality and wiggle and there is no padding. So here come the cannelloni. Alright all finished. It was ok but just as I suspected mass produced. There is not much wrong with it but I can tell. The filling is just a bit under seasoned. And the dough is a bit too thick. I would roll it out at least two more settings. It was more like a burrito. So I give this place a three star. It needs some work on the place as the age is showing. read more

This is the absolute favorite restaurant for my wife and myself. Once we stumbled upon Cabotto's, we made it our regular place to go and have a nice quiet dinner. Staff is great, owners are always there, quiet and very cosy, excellent food, great wine. Can't say enough good things. read more

This place is very fancy and I'm sure the food is normally very good, but they forgot to add the wine it seems I'm the Marsala sauce. Kind of weird to have to tell the chefs how to cook. Thankfully a fresh batch of Marsala was brought out, but we had already eaten most of the meal by then. I guess it was our fault we should have sent it back right away. Usually when the food gets ruined I expect restaurants to give a steep discount on the meal, even after the problem is fixed. Still the cost was about $30 a person with no discount. I think it only makes sense to come here when you have a coupon. I would also say that this place is too fancy for kids and the demographic is very much on the older side. Although this place is very nice, the floor shakes when the waiters walk by and the chairs creak noticeably which detracted a bit from my overall experience. read more

My husband & I went to Cabotto's last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Decor is very old fashioned and the dim lighting makes it feel a little gloomy, rather than romantic. The final bill was very expensive ($133) for two people and not worth the price we paid, considering the main course dishes were just unremarkable pasta dishes. Expect to pay $35 for a $15 bottle of Chianti Ruffino. Maybe that's a normal markup - I don't know. I had the Fettuchine Gamberi which was listed as a house special ($26) The description was sea scallop * tiger shrimp * sundried tomato basil pesto* I suppose I could be happy that the description wasn't taken literally and receive one scallop and one shrimp, but two toonie-sized scallops (overcooked) and three shrimp on a pile of fettuchini covered in cream sauce didn't impress - no mention of cream in the description of the dish! I voiced my disappointment to the waiter about the lack of seafood. He did ask if I'd like something else instead, but that wasn't my complaint. All this to say, I've experienced better. read more
