The BEST Italian restaurant in Ottawa hands down! Why? Because the food is actually authentically delicious. And the generous portions wouldn't make your nonna feel embarrassed about the plating efforts resulting in making guests leaving hungry. I haven't seen chef Emmanuele in a while, but he and his family operated this place and their presence on-site made it feel like you were stepping into their heart and home on every visit. So I finally went here and dined-in recently (instead of just getting delivery). The place is nicely decorated and small and cozy, but also very noisy. The tables are not that close together, and you can't really hear people's conversations, it's just really loud in there (maybe due to the high ceilings). The service is friendly and competent. Waters were re-filled without prompting. The presentation of the food is much nicer when you eat in compared to delivery (where everything is just slopped into a container). I had the Cannelloni ($19). The plate had 3 cannelloni on it. They were rolled really skinny, but were stuffed with ground meat. The menu said there was spinach in it, but I actually didn't see or taste any. The cannelloni were covered in a meaty tomato sauce and melted cheese. The dish was delicious and I quite enjoyed it. The sauce had a lot of meat in it and they were generous with the cheese. My husband had the Gnocchi Sorrentina ($19). I stole a gnocchi from his plate. It was nothing remarkable. It was in a tomato sauce without meat and covered in melted cheese. The portion was generous. My husband liked it, but I found it rather boring. My father-in-law had the Salmone Alla Griglia ($24). I talk about this in my previous review. Again I didn't taste it, so other than the mention of the price, I have nothing to add from my previous review about this dish, except the presentation was really nice at the restaurant (the dill sauce was in a little bowl on the side) and vegetables were nicely arranged), as opposed to in delivery when the sauce was everywhere and the vegetables, potatoes and salmon where all over the place. The complimentary bread was fresh and warm. It was a little doughy and yeasty, but still good enough to soak up the delicious tomato sauce. Our dine-in experience was better than our delivery experiences. Just a note: as of the writing of this review, the prices on their website are lower than the prices in the actual restaurant by a few dollars. read more

3.5/5 We never go to Stittsville, so when an opportunity presented itself, especially during dinnertime, I was excitedly looking for a restaurant to remember Stittsville by. I was craving pasta, so the choice at the time was between Pocopazzo and Napoli's Cafe. We also had a baby in tow, so I didn't want anything too too fancy, and Napoli's sounded like it was just that. So Pocopazzo it was. It was already later in the evening (closer to 8) during a weekday, so the dinner-rush crowd was starting to thin out. The restaurant still did feel like a smidge fancy for us though, and with the tables close to each other, dim lighting, and slightly loud atmosphere, we seriously contemplated ordering takeout instead. But because we live a good 30-minute drive away, we knew that our food would not taste as good by the time we got home. We reluctantly sat down and placed the car seat under the table and out of the very cramped aisle. We were hungry anyway, so we figured we'd dine in at 20 mins max. Anything we don't eat at that time would have to be packed up in a doggy bag. The hostess did offer to move us to a different table once one with more space opened up. When the table did open up, it took her too long to initiate the move (we had already finished), but no big deal. My partner ordered the seafood papardelle and I had their fettucine poco pazzo. They brought out fresh bread with butter and balsamic/oil dip. Had we known the portions were going to be bigger than average, we wouldn't have gone to town on the bread. The pasta itself was delicious. My partner and I both preferred the papardelle, with the jumbo shrimp and scallops. The cream sauce was very rich and flavourful. The seafood to pasta ratio wasn't as high as we wanted though; we wished there was more seafood! The poco pazzo also had a rich white cream sauce, but tasted a little different with a brandy base. Both were very, very heavy dishes that you'd probably best only eat during cheat days, even if you weren't on a diet... definitely carb-loading at its finest. And if you are lactose-intolerant, they definitely use full-fat cream, so don't regret your dish after! The service was attentive and the food came out fast. I guess it wasn't a terrible experience for a first restaurant in Stittsville. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there again, but if I'm in the area, and maybe not with a baby in tow, I might consider eating there again. Only on a cheat day of course! ;) read more

I've been pretty consistent with rating poor service in my reviews. This is the first place that I've received poor service and rated it more than 2 stars. Please read on... We arrived at Pocopazzo around 11:45 am for lunch. We sat down to wait for the rest of our party and let our server know that we were waiting on others. We were the only table at the restaurant. When our group arrived we decided to go outside and our server helped setup a table outside. It took the server a good 15-20 minutes to get us water and some cutlery. This should have raised a flag as we were the only table at the retaurant. I want to avoid going into every detail but the server turned out extremely slow, got 3 out of 5 orders wrong, the manager came out to find out what we ordered and apologize as the server was new. One of the lunches were brought out. We waited another 20+ minutes for our meals. The fifth person with us ordered the same thing as the person who had their meal brought out and got his meal a good 10 minutes after everyone else. Our bill was incorrect due to our incorrect order. The update was still incorrect. It took another 20 minutes to sort out the bill. When the orders were incorrect the owner came out to offer us free drinks and we turned it down as we weren't really interested but really appreciated the offer. THANK YOU to the owner of Pocopazzo for being the first restaurant in Ottawa to offer me a comp when the restaurant messes up!!!!!!!!!!! This is the first experience in 6 years I've had in Ottawa were I've been offered a comp due to horrible service or an incorrect order and its happened to me quite a bit. I've been to many restaurants out of town and been comped for less than what happened at Pocopazzo. Again I've rarely accepted anything it's just the gesture that is awesome. This is the first time it's happened to me in Ottawa. Apart from the bad service experience I have to say the pasta dish I had was really good. The pasta was well cooked and the pasta was nice, the gorgonzola sauce was creamy and delicious but not overly thick and the chicken was cooked well. If I come back and the food is just as good Pocopazzo would definitely get 4 stars out of me. read more

This restaurant is a strong 3 star choice, in my opinion. They do have two locations - the other one is on March Road but I've never been there. My husband and I decided to go to this local restaurant for the pasta to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's not a fancy-dress restaurant, it's about average. The prices are on the higher side, but the decor is not so upscale to compensate for the prices. It's small things, such as dim lighting; the crowded tables, and the chairs aren't that comfy. It was hard to talk to my husband without feeling like the people at the next tables were listening; certainly we could overhear people around us at the other tables! Don't look for an intimate meal here, which is unfortunate! On the upside, service was good if not overly attentive (there were 3 or 4 servers, and the place was quite full, including the patio out front). the food was very tasty and the plates were quite full! Good things about the menu: "Angela's favourites" - this is the Chef's wife, who has listed her favourite items throughout the menu. I believe she is right! I ordered a soup that was divine, and the main course was very good. Not so good: I wish the menu items weren't listed only in Italian! After asking about the name of the dish, I had something called "Gemelli con Manzo" (Gemelli turns out to be some kind of pasta). This was delicious, and very well laid out on the plate. My husband seemed to enjoy his meal too. And this is one place that offers you starter-bread with dipping oil which was very tasty. read more

Pretty impressed with the food. Have been to many outstanding Italian restaurants within Canada and the US and must say that I am impressed. Try the mussels in white wine sauce-best I have ever had! Service was good, waitress was quite pleasant. Could have been a little more attentive but not complaining. Small place and seemed to do a good business on a Monday evening. Wine selection was small but served Masi Valpolicella by the glass-nice!!! Overall, I would say that I was happy and left full. Give the place a try! read more

My husband and I showed up here on a Saturday night, I'd been once before and remembered the food was good. We were able to get a table but there were only a couple free-so next I will make sure we reserve. It is a cute place, nice ambiance, great for a date night. The food was terrific! We shared an artichoke appetizer, amazing bread, and pasta that wouldn't quit-read big portions, we had leftovers. If it weren't for the service this place would be 5 star-but the service was lack luster. Took 15 minutes just to get in a drink order. If they get a handle on the service they'd turn tables much quicker. It seemed the whole place had tables of people who looked frustrated and tired of waiting. I take -2 stars, it was bad. The food however was ahhhmazing! And perhaps now I will opt for take out?! read more

OMG! We knew this restaurant had been in Stittsville for a while but sort of dismissed it as another pizza place. We were very wrong and now very much regret missing out (until now) on such get food! We ordered the Polette (pork meatballs) appetizer. Here is where our lesson in fabulous Italian food began! First you get 2 massive meatballs sitting in a lake of thick meat sauce and 5 pieces of nicely dense bread. The meatballs break up with a fork are tender and perfectly spiced. The spice was beautifully balanced between sweet and savory! The meat sauce at first seemed dull but after a moment on your tongue it blossomed into a delightful partnership with the meatball. Adding the bread to 'mop' up the sauce is brilliant. The bread is too dense too be enjoyable on its own but is the perfect compliment required for the sauce. Am taking a break before trying the Canneloni but will let you know what we think! Love this place so far!!! read more

Nice restaurant, albeit in a strip mall. This being said though, nice ambiance, not too many tables. Food was excellent. Their pesto sauce is very good! Would have preferred pine nuts over walnuts in sauce, but that might personal taste. Veal Marsala was also ordered at my table and it looked great, wish I could have tried it. I have dined at this beautiful, quaint restaurant with friends many times, and have NEVER been disappointed by the food, service or ambiance of this restaurant. I would caution those that are reading other reviews to try Poco Pazzo for yourself, and not be dissuaded by the few negative reviews. I can't imagine what these folks are looking for in a restaurant. We have eaten at two other local Italian restaurants (one in Stittsville and one on the border between Stittsville and Kanata...) and I can tell you that the authenticity and quality of the food at Poco Pazzo far exceeds that of these other two restaurants. The service can be slower, but if you're actually looking to dine quickly then go on a slower night or try somewhere else. We like to take our time eating. The service has ALWAYS been fantastic. They currently run a "two can dine" special earlier in the week; $49 includes one shared app, two mains and one shared dessert. An EXCELLENT value and superb food! Favourite dishes include: Pollo Toscano , Vitello Florentio and el-carciope (might be spelling that one wrong...) They have one semi-round table at the very front; good for 3-5 people. One high-top table good for up to 6-8? and rest are tables for two-four that they can put together for more seating. read more
