Balsamic Chicken Salad $14.
Jennifer P.

I had dinner here with my husband and some Yelp friends (it was our second Ottawa's Yelp International Supper Club meeting. Our first was Korean, and we decided to do Italian this time). Via Cibo touts itself as serving "Italian street food." Their menu is basically pizzas, pastas, paninis, and salads. Overall, I felt it was just ok. So the way it works at Via Cibo is you order and pay at the cash register. They give you a number on a stand. You sit down wherever you like, and put your number on the table. When your food is ready, they will bring it to your table. You get your own cutlery and napkins. Staff do come around and take away empty plates when you're done, and they do come by to ask if you are enjoying your meal. So it's a hybrid between full table service and a fast food restaurant. I got the Balsamic Chicken Salad ($14). It was spinach, roasted red peppers, pickled onions, goat cheese, and chicken. I asked for the dressing on the side and was happy to receive it as such. Unfortunately, even before I put on any dressing I noticed that the salad was oily :( I think it was from the oil the chicken was cooked in. The salad was ok. The pickled onions were interesting. They were a bit sweet. The ingredients went well together, and they weren't too stingy with the meat in comparison to other salad ingredients, but overall the salad was smaller than I expected. My husband got the Pollo Pesto Panini ($11) and Tuscan fries ($5). I had some fries. They were topped with grated parmesan cheese. I found the fries too salty and a bit mealy. I generally love fries, but I wasn't a fan of these. My husband was unimpressed with his sandwich. He said it was way too oily/greasy (and his oil/grease tolerance is much higher than mine). It was chicken breast pieces mixed with pesto and vegetables. It looked super oily to me, so I didn't try any :( His sandwich came with a small pile of oily mixed greens too (just lettuce, no other vegetables). They serve gelato from Stella Luna at Via Cibo. They have squares and other desserts too (not sure if made in-house or not). Via Cibo is in the Kanata Centrum. Anyone who's read my review of the Kanata Centrum knows how much I despise driving around there. I tried not to let my disdain of the Kanata Centrum affect my opinion of Via Cibo, but maybe there was some spillover, lol. It was great getting together with fellow Yelpers and I'm glad I gave Via Cibo a try, but I doubt I would return on my own as I found the food just ok and I don't like going to the Kanata Centrum.

I was super excited when I found out that the next Yelp Ottawa Supper Club was going to be a Via Cibo. I spent the following week leading up to this event going through their menu online as well as looking at pictures on their Yelp page trying to narrow down my meal plan for Friday night. I knew right away what I wanted to try; the pizza! Upon walking in (through the exit door, lol), the place was pretty busy, but luckily there was enough seating for our group of eight and we found a nice cozy spot to dig into our food. Like other reviews mentioned, its cafeteria style, you order at the cash, they give you a number, you put it on your table and they bring you the food. Surprisingly that process was well executed, but would recommend ordering everything at once, as the line to order food is unpredictable. There is also a setup along the wall in the dinning area where you can find hot oil, straws, plates & napkins...pretty much the essentials to complete your dinning experience. Now onto the food... We started off with the tuscan fries which I thought was the highlight of my meal, and enjoyed the dipping sauce that it came with, it had some kick. Shortly after, my margherita pizza showed up and my eyes lit up, but unfortunately, the pizza fell short. It was luke warm at best, and was seriously missing some punch to the sauce. There was no tang, no spices/salt, but fell along the lines of just canned tomato sauce. Not even the chili oil that they have could save it. The crust also didn't do it for me, I love thin crust pizza, but it fell flat taste wise. The hubby ordered the carbonara and meatball sub which he enjoyed favouring more towards the meatball sub, but I wont spoil the details as he will be writing his own Yelp review. Overall, the concept is interesting, and offers up something new to the kanata area. I rarely venture out to this area of town so it will be unlikely that I will return.

The bruschetta here is really good!

Although this is a chain of restaurants, this location of Via Cibo is the only one in Ottawa. It is a different in that it's cafeteria style: you come in one door and right away you are facing the order counter. There are chalk boards hanging overhead describing the variety of foods, and all the while you are standing in front of the kitchen on a pathway that leads you to the cash where you order your food. The cashier gives you a number to put on your table, and brings the food to you when it's ready. If you decide to get desert after having eaten the main dish, you have to go through the whole process again, and that can be daunting when the lineup is long. But desert is quite tasty and worth the wait as the Gelato is excellent. As for the food, we ordered appetizers while we waited for everyone to get there: the bruschetta was pretty tasty, and the garlic bread - although it was on sort of flat bread, it was loaded with garlic and super tasty! For my main dish, they allowed me to add meatballs to my pasta. The pasta and sauce was ok (the sauce was a bit bland), but the meatballs were stellar! A bit spicy but oh so tasty! I would go back just for the meatballs. I would probably give this place a 3 1/2 stars, if only I could, but I've really got to validate that: We had our 2nd Yelp Ottawa International Supper Club event here which was a lot of fun!! The company we were with would be a full star just by itself! It was an intimate group of 8, and the ambiance of the restaurant was pretty good in that I could usually hear everybody. It was great to catch up in a casual atmosphere. Overall, we enjoyed it. Via Cibo has a lot of competition in the Italian Food market, but the food is good, and this is a good place to bring your family in an informal space.

Caprese salad with teenie portion of cheese, no bella.

Whew, super disappointed in the cheese to tomato ratio! Taste was there, not my expectation a nice thick piece.

Visited Via Cibo last Sunday with family. We went for a $45 family combo of a salad, 2 pastas, 1 pizza and a dessert.. Food is great and portions are big.. See some of the pics I have uploaded We will definitely visit this place again..

My Carbonara and Meatball Sandwich

Where is the meat? Err...I am mean flavour! Actually Via Cibo does exactly what you'd expect of a pasta, pizza and panini place. Though, the food might cater to a different crowd than me, I found the food to be on the bland side. First let's talk about atmosphere: We had a lovely gathering of yelpers at this great restaurants on a busy Friday night. We enjoyed great conversation while gorging in a massive amount of carbs, we were happy! The atmosphere you'll see is a bustling of families and dates. If you're looking for romantic, this is not your place. If you want quick Italian for a hungry family, I think this is your place. They also have gelato, big win for the kids I saw! Atmosphere was great for us! Let's get to the food, the food was just so-so. We started with the truffle fries which I thought had a lot of flavour, they came out piping hot and were well salted. Maybe they had a bit too much salt, but we were starving so we enjoyed them quite a bit. Since I was a bit hungry I ordered two meals, the carbonara and the meatball sandwich. The carbonara wasn't bad, but I felt it was missing some flavour. I don't eat carbonara much, so it's possible it was spot on and I just don't like carbonara. On the other hand, I enjoyed the meatball sandwich a lot more. It came on some nicely toasted yet soft bread, important for a meatball sandwich as you don't want the meatballs to fall everywhere as you bite. It could have had a bit more flavour, but it was fine. The only complaint I would have, is that is of felt like a Subway sandwich meatball sandwich but at $14. I think it is priced as a higher end restaurant, with fast food experience and food quality. Maybe I just don't see the value as much as a family would. Just keep that in mind when you go. Not bad, not amazing! It's unlikely I'll return mainly because there are better options for what I enjoy in the city of Ottawa. But if you're a family wanting Italian and gelato fast and are in Kanata, this would fill that void!

Custom pasta
Kendra T.

One of my favourite places to get dinner in Kanata! The restaurant it's self is very spacious. Has a good variety of pizza and pastas. I always do the custom option, where you can build your own pasta.

Good food. Had the prosciutto piadina, Margherita pizza, and the polpette (meatballs) All were good quality, and tasted pretty good.

Pizza and egg benedict

We went for lunch for the first time, Olivia, the young lady at the cash, was very nice and pleasant. The food is great, we had the eggs bennedict and the new yorker pizza. The place looks nice and is clean. Overall great experience and we will come back.

Yum! Gorgonzola gnocchi and pollo pesto sandwich!
L M.

Love the cafeteria atmosphere that they have. Everything I've tried has been delicious! My favourites are the Gorgonzola gnocchi and the steak sandwich! You are also able to get takeout, which makes a quick and tasty dinner! Overall, I recommend you try Via Cibo!

White pizza was awesome with olives bruschetta argula.
Michelle W.

Food was awesome. White pizza was different with bruschetta olives and arugula. So glad to have an option for dinner not including heavy unhealthy options. Food is fresh and quick. Pizza can serve 2. Will def go back again !

Parmigana sandwich is a sad wrap. Expected a proper sandwich as Italian Street food. Used to be good here no longer. Try somewhere else

Nice selection of food. Easy to order in or take out. Pretty popular so it can take a bit for your order to be ready but it's worth it.

Pizza Nerds

I've been meaning to try this place for soo long and I finally did! And I wish I had tried it…read moresooner. It might actually be one of my favourite pizzas in the city! The restaurant is cuter inside than I thought. There are some window seats for people-watching on bank st. There are also some hanging lights by the windows. The pizza crust has the perfect crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside texture. It's so good it doesn't even need any dip. I tried both the nerd pizza and the mushroom pizza. The nerd pizza had pickled onions, black pepper molasses bacon, cheese and chili Basil honey. I loved the tangy pickled onions, with the salty-sweet bacon, and the spicy honey. The combination was just perfection. I could use a little more chili though! The mushroom pizza was a white pizza with portobello mushrooms, parm, and truffle oil. The salty parm and the meaty portebello mushrooms were a good combo, but I didn't really taste any truffle oil. I felt like this pizza was good but missing a little something to take it to the next level. Overall, the food was delicious. The drinks are reasonably priced (beer, local kombucha). However, the service was mediocre. I think they only had one or two servers working the entire area on Friday night.

Ordered 2 of their rotating menu pizzas tonight and was not disappointed. I'm not the type to…read moredeviate from my usual order once I find something I like, but I'm glad I did. The pizzas were light, airy and packed a lot of flavour into each bite. Super full now and I regret nothing

I live really close by but for some reason have never tried Georgie's until recently. I got some…read moretakeout for my husband and I to share. I got a Hot Turkey sandwich platter $13.75 and a slice of Donair pizza $4. They sell pizzas by the slice, but they are not displayed so you have to ask them what kinds they have. The day I went, if I remember correctly, they had 4 types: Cheese, Pepperoni, Bacon and Donair. Slices are $4 each or $5 with a can of pop. 2 slices is $8 or $9 with a can of pop, so no discount if you buy more. However, they do have a pickup discount, which is the equivalent amount to the taxes you would pay. So essentially if you pick up, they pay the tax :) The Hot Turkey sandwich platter was really good. It came with fries and coleslaw. I liked that the coleslaw was vinegar based and not mayo based. It was mostly cabbage with a bit of carrot. I enjoyed it. The fries were just regular fries but they were crispy and good. The sandwich had real turkey breast meat in it (can you believe that I once ordered a hot turkey sandwich and it was a deli meat turkey sandwich covered in gravy?!? Obviously not at this restaurant, lol). The bread was the regular white sandwich bread, but what really set this sandwich apart was the delicious peppery gravy. Man, that stuff is really good! The pizza was good too. They put toppings under the cheese here, which is not my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The donair was thick pieces and tasted more like sausage, but it was still good. The sauce has a distinct flavour to it, which I can't pinpoint, but I liked it. The crust was crispy and even though the crust was thicker than I usually like, I still enjoyed it. I liked that the slice came in a cute cardboard box. The platter came in an aluminum container, but the lid was styrofoam. I'm not a fan of styrofoam, I would have preferred a foil-backed cardboard lid. Service was friendly and I got my food pretty quickly. The restaurant is a strip of businesses along Carling Ave just west of Churchill Ave N. There's free parking at the back of the strip. There's a sign and you have to turn in before you actually see the strip of businesses (Georgie's, Sapporo Sushi, and a few other businesses). If you turn into the parking lot after the strip, that one actually belongs to a different strip mall (the one with Markie's Smoked Meat and Mr. Sub). There are signs indicating you can only park there if you are going to a business in that strip mall. Not sure what enforcement is like, but why chance it if there's also free parking in the proper place, right? Since there's a huge median along this part of Carling Ave, you can only access the restaurant if you are driving westbound on Carling. Georgie's has its main entrance on Carling but there's also a back entrance from the parking lot.

Simply put...AWESOME PIZZA…read more I have ordered from here a few times and I'm embarrassed to say I neglected to review each time before now, I was typically so hungry I just jumped right in... alas I digress. I have had a few different types of pizzas here, in the end my favourite is the cheese. Yup, straight cheese. Seems basic, but the flavour is outstanding and the dough ball to keep the box from sticking to the cheese is a classically delicious touch. I really like the flavour combinations of the cheese with the sauce puts many other to shame. If you are in this end of the town, give this place a shot, you won't be disappointed. I'll be back for sure.
