Absolutely loved our experience here and fully worth all the 5 stars. The owner is extremely friendly guy and told us his story on how he started this place while making the delicious croffles. The decor of this place is also very vibrant as you can see from the pictures. He had a steady flow of customers come in and make great conversations with them. A lot of them seemed like repeat customers which is always a good sign! We tried the biscoff croffle and strawberry croffle. Both were delicious but we liked strawberry more. The strawberries were fresh and delicious. I think he mentioned that he switches up the menu. So I can't wait to see what'll be next when we visit Ottawa next. But definitely do visit this place in the heart of vibrant Byward market. Only suggestion is to use to paper plates instead of styrofoam.

Very cute new little dessert place on Sussex! New concept of combining croissant and waffle.. love the combo cause it's waffle but doesn't get soggy since it's a layered croissants dough! the owners were super nice and generous! They got this nice pink wall so Instagram worthy! They are working on a small seating stool area and some coffee to go with the sweet dessert! The only downside is the parking.. but it's worth the stroll

So it for the gram ... shenani-gram while waiting for croffle order

4 s out of 5 for: - this small dessert shop just opened in the trendy section of Sussex Drive; it's a small spot but it's cozy and pretty in pink inside - owned by two young entrepreneurs = support small business - staff is friendly - it can get crowded on there easily - dessert is pricey so share your croffle - take a selfie by their "Love at First Bite" pink flower wall

First Bite is the first in the city to serve this decadent treat. I had the opportunity to try a limited-time only and exclusive flavour of this concoction that starts with the soft and buttery Croffle itself topped with Nutella, whipped cream, Kinder buenos, Ferrero Rocher, strawberry halves and a drizzle of Belgium white chocolate and Nutella - just layers of PURE DECADENCE!! Their menu features a variety of combination of toppings like the Lotus Biscoff, blueberry, Golden Oren and many more! Once inside, you're welcomed by bright pink walls with a wall of pink roses on one side, perfect for those IG worthy shots

I received a Yelp Elite perk and immediately knew this is a place to take my kids to celebrate the end of the week (and Flu shots). However, I also bought some extra ones so I can review this as both an Elite guest and a customer. The shop is perfectly placed not far from the Ottawa sign and close enough to all the market bars. It's not a huge place, so I feel it's more of a walking food or takeout, however, there is a small sitting area (bench). Now let's talk about the start of the evening the Croffle. In one word "AMAZING" in two F**king Amazing. The first thing you will encounter as you walk in is the super nice and friendly staff so you are already in a great mood. Now there are so many tasty options to mix and create, I went with the staff recommendation for the kids (ate every bite, Croffle for dinner it is) and something a bit less sweet for me which was again delicious. If I had a cup of coffee in my hand (they don't sell hot drinks) it would have been heaven. BTW my kid told me on the way back "no more beaver tails for me I want only Croffle. The only advice I can give you is eat it warm.

Wow ! Very impressed by this place , since the moment you walk-in you can smell how tasty the croffle is going to be . I love that the place is very bright, so its awesome for your instagram pics . Now about the croffles, is the first time I heard about this concept and I completely loved it . The mix of chocolate with the sweetness of fresh fruit its amazing . The croffle is also very crunchy, not too hard not too soft just the perfect mix. They are also made fresh on the spot, so you get them warm and ready to eat . I definitely recommend visiting this place, I loved everything about it , very insta-worth it too . Can't wait to be back !

Strawberry Bliss and Nutella cordless ....

Walking down Sussex Dr it's almost easy to overlook First Bite as another Art gallery. But the white exterior of this eatery does stand out and makes you reconsider. After a good walk from the Parliament Hill to the National Gallery of Canada we, a bunch of 4, decided to regain the burnt calories here. At first glance, the interior doesn't seem to have a lot of seating space but they have managed to squeeze in about 4 tables very subtlety in a way that doesn't look too cramped. But it's the decor on the walls that, in my opinion, gives the chic-ness to the interior. I think the signature item on the menu is the Croffle. The sheer idea of a cross between Croissant and Waffle made us order three of those with different toppings obviously. We tried the Strawberry Milk Chocolate, Strawberry White Chocolate and the Biscoff Cookie toppings. Each of them was exquisite! I keep going to Ottawa and this place will definitely be revisited.

The cakes and muffins are moist and tasty, but on the oily/greasy side and very sweet. The cookies are also tasty, but very rich and full of butter, and also very sweet. I know that "real baking" is full of sugar and fat, and this is how most people like it, but I personally prefer reduced-fat and reduced-sugar baking, lol. That being said, I can still appreciate full-fat and full-sugar baked goods, haha. They are a nut-free bakery, so if you are allergic to nuts, you need not worry about eating items here. And their (nut-free) carrot cake is really good! If I recall correctly, they put pineapple in it, yum! I didn't even miss the walnuts. The bakery is pretty and they have lots of ready to go cakes so you can pick one up last minute if you have to. Obviously you can also pre-order if you want something specific, but they do have a good selection of readymade cakes. Staff are friendly. Street parking only.

I was in the mood for a Sfogliatella (lobster tail pastry), so my husband and I went to Little Italy to get one. Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana has been around since 1979, but I had never been there before. They had a large selection of desserts and gelato. We took our pastry to-go, but they have some seating both indoors and on their raised front patio and street-level side patio. The Sfogliatella was $7.49 which is the most I've ever paid for this pastry. Fortunately, it was delicious. Very crispy and flakey on the outside and softer on the inside with a generous amount of cream. I prefer the ricotta cheese filling slightly more, but I like the cream filling too. It was light and airy and not too sweet. Service was efficient and pleasant. The shop has a one way flow, you enter one door and you follow the arrows and exit a different door. The area to wait for service is narrow, so this process prevents congestion and crowding. I like it. Great for the occasional treat, but a bit too spendy for me. (77)

I wouldn't use a term bad as this place is a blessing for Ottawa The good 1. Variety : it's not overwhelming , just enough amount of truffles and breads to satiate your sugar and buttery starch craving .if you are into chocolate you are in for a treat 2. Ice creams : surprisingly three of my friends got icecream a and they were soooo good . So it's consistent 3. Service : quick efficient and nice 4. I got 2 Portuguese egg tarts (Pasteis de Nata) $2.50 each, 2 cannoli $3.50 each and a cream filled horn pastry $3.50. I didn't like that none of the items had prices listed anywhere, so I had to ask how much everything was. The egg tarts were not fresh, as the pastry was all soft and chewy. The filling was sweet, rich and smooth though. I love Portuguese egg tarts for their flakey pastry with that crispiness to them when they are fresh, and I did not get that here. The cannoli fortunately were not soft nor soggy, but rather crunchy, despite being prefilled. The shell was a bit too dense and oily tasting for liking though. However, the filling was tasty. The cream horn was filled with a smooth custard, which I enjoyed, but I didn't really like the dry crumbly pastry. Overall, I enjoyed the fillings of the items I bought, but not the pastry. Service was neutral. I don't think they take credit cards because when I went to pay by credit, the man asked me if I had debit instead. The bakery is co-located with Syrian Kitchen. I saw some falafels and rice on display, as well as various dips and spreads in the fridge. No parking lot. Street parking only.

Now also known as SYRIAN KITCHEN (says on their new business cards)…read more Based on what I have overheard and read, this place is now owned and operated by Syrian families, employing some recent refugees. They have retained the Portuguese name and products from working with the previous co-owner. This is currently the only place you can get Syrian falafel in town. They gave me and my partner each a sample falafel to try - the falafels were flavourful, crispy on the outside and moist inside. I liked it much better than a lot of other falafels in town!!! $0.65 each if you were to buy. Looks like they are made to order, or the pre-made ones are within the hour and fresh. We tried the Syrian falafel wrap ($6) and Beef steak sandwich ($7) and both were delicious. Don't expect the food to come super fast like other shawarma-type places because they don't have an assembly line. For the beef steak sandwich, they sauteed mushrooms and onions along with the beef on their grill until caramelized, which took a while, but it tasted so homey and fresh. Beef was a little tough but the flavour was good. We got a bunch of natas (Portuguese egg tarts) and they were really good. $1.75 each. We also got a bunch of kibbehs (beef croquettes) - which I have just reheated and am eating right now on Day #2 - and they are flavourful and still juicy inside even after reheating. 5/5 would buy again. And of course we got extra Syrian falafels to go....because they're so good and we eat them like cookies (except healthier...I think). Lovely people, homey food at very reasonable prices. Cannot wait to come back again.

Really cool space, definitely would be great for an afternoon tea. They have an outdoor patio, not that it was being used despite the beautiful day. Pastries and food selection is great. The staff is friendly... but slow and easily distracted. The cashier was taking a phone order while several of us were waiting, pretty unacceptable when another staff member should be able to take a call. We ordered a coffee and a mimosa. Well, they had to go back and check to see if they had juice... they did not. I asked for just the bubbly instead, she had to go back and check again. How do they not know or keep things on their menu in stock? Oh well, they had the bubbly so it was okay. For food we ordered a pastry and a croissant sandwich. The biscotti and pastry were delicious. For some reason, they decided to panini press the croissant sandwich. What the heck, who would do that? Why didn't they ask? Tasty sandwich, but completely ruined due to crushing the croissant. We were expecting it to come straight out of the case and at most maybe microwaved to warm it, not just destroyed in a panini press. Cool vibes, nice atmosphere, food is good, tea menu looks amazing. But, the staff don't seem to have a clue to what they are doing.

The almond croissant was mediocre. After being warmed up by staff, it lost any flakey taste delicateness that it may have originally had. The pumpkin latte tasted like it was made with bitter, burnt espresso. There was a nice amount of foam and the aftertaste was milder and more palatable. I just moved to Canada and hoped this cafe, which is full of potential, would become my go to. I was disappointed, but plan to come back to give the lunch menu a try.
