Fresh and made to order! Got the cinnamon sugar with Nutella filling but regretted because the cones with ice cream seems more worth it for your money. Limited seating inside, a small table plus bar seatings. Will have to revisit and try the pistachio cone.

I went in to take a look and ended up buying a salted caramel brownie ($3.25) and a pink cookie with white chocolate chips ($3.65). When you buy anything pink in the shop, 20% of the sales go to Breast Cancer Research (not sure if this is just for the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) or for always). The salted caramel brownie was phenomenal! So rich and buttery and filled with gooey salted caramel and chocolate chips. The cookie was good too, nice and chewy with lots of white chocolate chips, but the salted caramel brownie stole the show, for sure! Everything is baked by them, it is not one of those shops that buys stuff from Costco and resells them, lol, like some other shops in medical buildings. I was served by Esther herself, who is beyond lovely. She told me they recently opened 5 months ago and she's really trying to get the cafe more exposure through social media. She noticed my purse and told me she has the exact same one and brought hers out to show me. Immediately I knew this woman has good taste, lol. The cafe is super cute with a few seats to eat in. It's not too visible from the street, so just look for the medical/office building next to the Westgate Shopping Centre. There's free parking along the front of the building. The parking lot is actually quite large, but many spots are reserved for permit holders, so just look out for the signage. Esther's Cakes N Sweets is a gem. I'm looking forward to trying out other items.

Truth be told, I did not buy the baked goods for myself, I promised my husband that I would treat him to some snacks for accompanying me to sketchy parts of town to run some errands, lol. So I got the items for him ;) He picked out a Chocolate Banana Croissant ($3.50) and a Chocolate Cheesecake ($3.75). The Chocolate Cheesecake was tiny for the price. It was in a small paper muffin liner, and was shorter than the liner. Like it was literally one-and-a-half bites. I didn't have any, because it was so tiny. The hubster said it was good, but it tasted like it either hadn't set yet or was undercooked as it was still runny. The Chocolate Banana Croissant was much better in my opinion and it was a normal size. It was a croissant with real bananas inside and then covered in chocolate. I had a bite and I liked it. They also sell savoury items like ham and cheese croissants, but they ran out when we were there, which disappointed me because I wanted something savoury. Staff were very friendly and courteous. I like supporting small independent businesses, especially during this time (Covid-19 Pandemic), so if I find myself in the area, I will likely pop in to see if they have any savoury items left, or I will try another sweet item. The bakery is on Elgin, so street parking only.

The cakes and muffins are moist and tasty, but on the oily/greasy side and very sweet. The cookies are also tasty, but very rich and full of butter, and also very sweet. I know that "real baking" is full of sugar and fat, and this is how most people like it, but I personally prefer reduced-fat and reduced-sugar baking, lol. That being said, I can still appreciate full-fat and full-sugar baked goods, haha. They are a nut-free bakery, so if you are allergic to nuts, you need not worry about eating items here. And their (nut-free) carrot cake is really good! If I recall correctly, they put pineapple in it, yum! I didn't even miss the walnuts. The bakery is pretty and they have lots of ready to go cakes so you can pick one up last minute if you have to. Obviously you can also pre-order if you want something specific, but they do have a good selection of readymade cakes. Staff are friendly. Street parking only.

I have not shopped there again after an incident a few years ago where I called ahead to reserve a sugar free cake and found when i got home that the cake had moldy berries on it and touch the cake too so it likely was in the display case for 1-2 days. Mom insisted that she did not want any of us eating a cake with mold on it, so an expensive cake was discarded. When I called, they said they had at the time an outside baker that came in once a week to bake the sugar-free cakes, and they freeze it. If a cake is past its best, they should have defrosted another cake since they were selling a supposedly premium product. Customer service by I think the owner's mother or a co-owner was terrible. She offered us a bag of cookies that l seen in the store before and looked kind of stale and remember we have a diabetic in the family! With that experience, we have been getting our cakes elsewhere, either sugar free or regular cakes but smaller ones, so dad would eat a maximum of 2 slices lol

The Long Version: My husband and I popped into Lavender Pastry on a cold snowy day in March to warm up and have a little treat. It opened around Christmas of 2024 in the space that used to be Numetrica, an accounting firm. We've walked passed it many times since then. I'm glad we finally decided to give it a try. My husband got a decaf coffee ($3.99) and a Chocolate Swiss roll slice ($5.19). I got something called a Persian Creamy Puff Pastry ($2.29). My pastry was 2 tiny puff pastry discs with cream piped in the centre. It had a single pomegranate aril placed on the cream with a sprinkling of pistachio dust around the aril. It was very pretty. The puff pastry was soft and not as flaky as I anticipated but it was still good. The cream was light and airy and the entire pastry wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated. It was about the size of a French macaron. I had a taste of my husband's Chocolate Swiss roll slice and it also wasn't too sweet. The cake was soft and fluffy and the cream was light and airy. It was tasty, but I found it on the small side, especially for the price. Good for portion control, I guess, lol. My husband enjoyed his coffee. The bakery/cafe is very cute and cozy inside. It's small with not too much seating though. Staff were pleasant. Street parking only. Review #64 (2025)
