    Half-eaten cake. Yum.

I've previously ordered a lemon cake through Givopoly Ottawa and my recipients have been delighted. So I thought I'd try them for myself this time, for my daughter's birthday. I really appreciate that they are nut-free (hallelujah! nut-free bakeries in the US are rare!) and the many nut-free signs posted in the store demonstrated that they take this allergy seriously. I ordered a Hello Kitty sheet cake (1/2 slab, $55) with pretty simple instructions, some pink icing, Hello Kitty character, chocolate cake. The ordering process was very easy online, and then Nadine called on the phone to confirm my order. The cake was ready at the specified time and looked fantastic! They used a sugar sheet to transfer the image onto the cake. It was very impressive-looking. Considering the fact that it feeds 25 people, I thought it was a reasonable price for the cake. Everyone enjoyed the cake, although in my humble opinion I didn't get as much chocolate flavor as I expected, but I did like that the buttercream icing wasn't overly sweet. Thanks, Cake Shop, for making a special occasion memorable!

The cakes were really, really well designed. Like, it most definitely takes above average talent to make that poutine cake. In fact, we were thinking of getting it for our friend who loves poutine but is now on a diet, but then we realized that cake is just as bad as poutine when you're on a diet. They were really expensive, but I guess understandable. The flavour was pretty sub-par though. While they looked nice, the cake we tried(the rainbow one, by the slice) tasted identical to the slab cake you buy at Loblaws. Also, the service was slow. They served 3 people who came in after us before us. A slice of cake was also pretty pricey at 6$.

The quickest way to find yourself pulled into a bakery is by walking by with a small child. I can't put all the blame on my kid. One, I like cake, too! Two, the ones on display were very cute. I also like cute things. Combined, it was like a sign to waltz in and get a little something to accompany my medium double-double. The decision of which cupcake flavor to buy was solved by the fact that they don't sell them individually. Each six pack contained two of each: vanilla, chocolate and red velvet. The price was a bit daunting : $14 per half dozen. It isn't so bad if you realize that the average price for a cupcake at Superstore is about $2 or $2.50 apiece. I had a red velvet cupcake. The buttercream frosting was sugary and smooth (I don't know if the latter was because it happened to be a hot day and it took us awhile to get home). In contrast, the cake was lightly sweetened in a perfect contrast to the frosting. The cake portion was also nicely moist. Overall, a good treat for people who don't like to aim for sugar shock when they have dessert. It's also a good treat for people with nut allergies, as all goods in the store are nut-free.

Omg heaven in a cup. Strawberry lime cupcake with soft serve vanilla ice cream = cupcake sundae *diesssss

They were so rude on the phone, then the birthday cake I received has animal hairs, and dirty stuff on it. This cost me $50

I was in the mood for a Sfogliatella (lobster tail pastry), so my husband and I went to Little Italy to get one. Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana has been around since 1979, but I had never been there before. They had a large selection of desserts and gelato. We took our pastry to-go, but they have some seating both indoors and on their raised front patio and street-level side patio. The Sfogliatella was $7.49 which is the most I've ever paid for this pastry. Fortunately, it was delicious. Very crispy and flakey on the outside and softer on the inside with a generous amount of cream. I prefer the ricotta cheese filling slightly more, but I like the cream filling too. It was light and airy and not too sweet. Service was efficient and pleasant. The shop has a one way flow, you enter one door and you follow the arrows and exit a different door. The area to wait for service is narrow, so this process prevents congestion and crowding. I like it. Great for the occasional treat, but a bit too spendy for me. (77)

This street has a number of good joints however this was a pleasent surprise to me . They have a wide range of home made chocolate bars , puff pastries , pastries , croissants , cannolis , crème Brûlée and filled donuts . Without wasting much time the good and the anti good . I wouldn't use a term bad as this place is a blessing for Ottawa The good 1. Variety : it's not overwhelming , just enough amount of truffles and breads to satiate your sugar and buttery starch craving .if you are into chocolate you are in for a treat 2. Ice creams : surprisingly three of my friends got icecream a and they were soooo good . So it's consistent 3. Service : quick efficient and nice 4. Patio : cute little patio they also have tables on the side Anti good 1. Coffee - well they are not a coffee shop so it adds up .'illl spend money on coffee on an extra cannoli 2. Eclairs : we have a lot better in Ottawa in Preston and bank Standout dish : pistachio crème brûlée - gave me an orgasm

I got 2 Portuguese egg tarts (Pasteis de Nata) $2.50 each, 2 cannoli $3.50 each and a cream filled horn pastry $3.50. I didn't like that none of the items had prices listed anywhere, so I had to ask how much everything was. The egg tarts were not fresh, as the pastry was all soft and chewy. The filling was sweet, rich and smooth though. I love Portuguese egg tarts for their flakey pastry with that crispiness to them when they are fresh, and I did not get that here. The cannoli fortunately were not soft nor soggy, but rather crunchy, despite being prefilled. The shell was a bit too dense and oily tasting for liking though. However, the filling was tasty. The cream horn was filled with a smooth custard, which I enjoyed, but I didn't really like the dry crumbly pastry. Overall, I enjoyed the fillings of the items I bought, but not the pastry. Service was neutral. I don't think they take credit cards because when I went to pay by credit, the man asked me if I had debit instead. The bakery is co-located with Syrian Kitchen. I saw some falafels and rice on display, as well as various dips and spreads in the fridge. No parking lot. Street parking only.

Now also known as SYRIAN KITCHEN (says on their new business cards)…read more Based on what I have overheard and read, this place is now owned and operated by Syrian families, employing some recent refugees. They have retained the Portuguese name and products from working with the previous co-owner. This is currently the only place you can get Syrian falafel in town. They gave me and my partner each a sample falafel to try - the falafels were flavourful, crispy on the outside and moist inside. I liked it much better than a lot of other falafels in town!!! $0.65 each if you were to buy. Looks like they are made to order, or the pre-made ones are within the hour and fresh. We tried the Syrian falafel wrap ($6) and Beef steak sandwich ($7) and both were delicious. Don't expect the food to come super fast like other shawarma-type places because they don't have an assembly line. For the beef steak sandwich, they sauteed mushrooms and onions along with the beef on their grill until caramelized, which took a while, but it tasted so homey and fresh. Beef was a little tough but the flavour was good. We got a bunch of natas (Portuguese egg tarts) and they were really good. $1.75 each. We also got a bunch of kibbehs (beef croquettes) - which I have just reheated and am eating right now on Day #2 - and they are flavourful and still juicy inside even after reheating. 5/5 would buy again. And of course we got extra Syrian falafels to go....because they're so good and we eat them like cookies (except healthier...I think). Lovely people, homey food at very reasonable prices. Cannot wait to come back again.

Really cool space, definitely would be great for an afternoon tea. They have an outdoor patio, not that it was being used despite the beautiful day. Pastries and food selection is great. The staff is friendly... but slow and easily distracted. The cashier was taking a phone order while several of us were waiting, pretty unacceptable when another staff member should be able to take a call. We ordered a coffee and a mimosa. Well, they had to go back and check to see if they had juice... they did not. I asked for just the bubbly instead, she had to go back and check again. How do they not know or keep things on their menu in stock? Oh well, they had the bubbly so it was okay. For food we ordered a pastry and a croissant sandwich. The biscotti and pastry were delicious. For some reason, they decided to panini press the croissant sandwich. What the heck, who would do that? Why didn't they ask? Tasty sandwich, but completely ruined due to crushing the croissant. We were expecting it to come straight out of the case and at most maybe microwaved to warm it, not just destroyed in a panini press. Cool vibes, nice atmosphere, food is good, tea menu looks amazing. But, the staff don't seem to have a clue to what they are doing.

The almond croissant was mediocre. After being warmed up by staff, it lost any flakey taste delicateness that it may have originally had. The pumpkin latte tasted like it was made with bitter, burnt espresso. There was a nice amount of foam and the aftertaste was milder and more palatable. I just moved to Canada and hoped this cafe, which is full of potential, would become my go to. I was disappointed, but plan to come back to give the lunch menu a try.
