Got a really nice set of dishes for takeout. The homemade lasagna was excellent, fairly rich. The tomato gnocchi also had a good texture, fluffy but not too dense. I particularly liked the saucing on the fusilli genovese. The penne pasquale I wasn't sure what made it more special, but it did the job. The meatballs were fine, though maybe too pricey for just 3 meatballs. The calamari could have used some work; not crispy enough. The chicken limone was delicious, though again maybe a bit overpriced. The chicken parm was excellent, with a good fry on the chicken and nicely pounded meat. I had heard of it.. but not too much about it. I was pleasantly surprised, especially after trying to make a reso by phone.. answering service was... a bit icy and was unable to leave a message.. haha... called back at a better time and made a reso, still then, unconvinced that I had made a good choice. This meet was for a guest out of town that I had not seen in many years and wanted the spot to be good... It WAS! The place at 7pm on a summer night was lit beautifully for being in a strip mall. The patio was full and lively. Lots of parking. Inside was romantically lit with high ceilings, an upper level for dining, music, open kitchen, a wine wall.... larger than I had imagined! Service was great! No regrets on our orders of a shrimp sambucca appy, spaghetti carbonara, and seafood fettuccine. Yummy. Leftovers for me! My dish did need a lot of salt, maybe personal taste but it was 100% unseasoned, even the pasta. Which was not al dente... but to be expected as busy places parboil everything. Chili flakes would have been appreciated or real cheese.. we asked and just got powdered parm. Still... good meals. My friend's carbonara had a lot of bacon and he enjoyed it. Solid but not special. Somehow everything ends up tasting much more bland than you expect based on the menu description and even the way the food looks when it comes to the table. Positives are a lively, fun atmosphere (even late on a Monday night in frigid March when I last visited) and their ability to find a table for you even when it seems super busy. read more

Oh my goodness...the pizza...just get the pizza. I cannot speak for the service as my hubby brought me home a margherita pizza, but it was absolutely amazing. Exactly how I like my pizza's! Got there at 5:30. Wait staff was awesome. The drink and food orders were taken almost instantly. The lasagne o ordered took over an hour to get served. It took so long, I asked the server to bring the other meals. Got charged fill price for my lasagne. Which to be honest with was just okay. Appreantely 'one of the cooks forgot about it in the back of the oven and they'll be having a meeting about it. ' There's better places in Kanata. I would avoid this at all costs. read more

Had lunch today. Ridiculously expensive. Spaghetti and meatballs $21 for the full order. I ordered the half order as suggested because it was lunch and a glass of their White House wine. The spaghetti portion was adequate and tasted fine after a lot of crushed chilli peppers which we were reluctantly served. Why I don't know. The wine was a Pinot Grigio: 6 maybe 7 ounces. Bill: $20.50 for the half order ( a 50 cent savings) and the 6 ounce glass of house wine $16.50. I am used to increased prices at restaurants since Covid but this was over the top. read more

So let's do an honest review of this restaurant. I'll start off with my opinion so you don't have to read the whole thing to find out it's good and it's worth of money but I'm a food snob. Here are a few of my complaints and comments. Let's start with the staff. For me personally, a little overly friendly I know they are just doing their job and it's a long day and a long week and it does become repetitive. It's an Italian restaurant so just relax be yourself. Italians are known for their honesty. Also make an effort to learn to pronounce the menu items properly. It doesn't have to be perfect, but give it a try. It's just irritating to hear Italian words being pronounced like people from New York. Now the food things. Let me start off by saying as an Italian restaurant you acknowledge that as Italians we gave the world the gift of cuisine. As an Italian restaurant, you must be the gatekeepers of tradition. Italian food has been Americanized to death and is taking on a life of its own. We must do our best to preserve the traditions of the Italian food culture. I always start off by examining the menu the ingredients if they show it and the spelling of things like fettuccine. They did not use cream in their carbonara so that's a plus and they spelled everything on the menu correctly. So having said that we do not put oil and balsamic vinegar on the table with bread. It's not a thing it's stupid but whatever. next, never ever allow someone to put parmigiano on seafood. I don't care how much they insist how much they like it. The customer is not always right if you want Parm on your seafood get out you're in the wrong place go to Eastside Mario. Then serving spaghetti with a spoon is an insult to Italians. If you can't eat spaghetti and twirl it on the side of your plate get out you are in the wrong restaurant. It's an Italian restaurant learn how to use it properly. spoons are for soup. None of this is the restaurants fault by the way I'm just ranting about some of the things I saw. As for my meal, the Caprese salad fell short. It wasn't fior di latte mozzarella. The mozzarella was hard and dry. It was very disappointing. I would take it off the menu and not offer it if it's going to be that type of quality. I ordered the lasagna they said was homemade and said there was no ricotta, but there was ricotta. I'm not sure about this one. It seemed like those packaged noodles and the sauce tasted a little Chef Boyardee to me. it was just OK. I ate it. At that point it's Food. Also the espresso machine is not dialled in properly. On the bright side, my crème brûlée was fabulous. I don't know if it was instant or made in the restaurant, but it was good and I'll eat it again. A small little complaint and most Italian restaurants will tell you the same thing you never put sliced sausage in pasta. It's lazy and just wrong. Take it out of the skin and crumble it up into pieces. You get better texture better and better flavor. I can't stress this enough. Ask Mario Capra and he will tell you the same thing. I did have a look around at the other food that came out. It was all presented very well. I would definitely bring a family here or go for a date night. The drinks were great and the dessert selection was good as well. The pricing was very fair for the menu items. I know it's hard for restaurants to keep prices reasonable, but I think it will pay off for these guys in the long run as people will keep going back because the pricing is worth what you get. read more

My experience. The service was bad. The waitress who was responsible for my table ignored us. I flagged down the bus person to get a waitress and the waitress got someone else to serve us. Other tables around us were brought water and bread immediately and received their food before my table. This is such a lovely restaurant. The ambience was lovely - the dim lighting adds a cozy vibe. The service was excellent. We were greeted within a few minutes of arriving and seated. Fratelli used to be so outstanding in past years, but we were disappointed this time around. The wait staff were mediocre in terms of friendliness and they seemed distracted throughout. We only were only checked on once during our meals, and again at the end with our bill. Our orders took a good 50 minutes which was much longer than in our many previous visits over the years, and it wasn't that busy. I reviewed this restaurant yesterday and will do so again now that we have had our dinner and thought about this over night. I will stick with the disappointment regarding our table. However, the manager did make up for it with a great offer. We did sit at the bar. Pasta, salad, dessert, wine and special coffees were all amazing. The lovely young lady that served us was excellent. However with the owner always catering to the couple next us and then moved them to a booth with another couple, which we were told we cannot have on Valentine''s Day, made you feel as if you are not really wanted. Working in this industry for years, I get it, give a little more to your regulars, BUT and this is a big but, keep in mind you would like to create MORE REGULARS. We have eaten around the world and always if the owner, chef or manager is on the floor, they visit every table with a short "HELLO, THANK YOU FOR COMING, HOW IS VERY THING." That's enough to make people feel welcome want to call the place a home away from home. Sorry to say Fratelli's is missing this. AND ONLY THIS. Because the food, the servers, wine, desserts & layout are perfect. FYI: there was a booth that stayed empty from our arrival of 6:30 till we left 8:15pm. Could have easily had us in that booth and out ! OH well. There loss. I will say Ive been here many times over the years for lunch and it is a similar feel. Maybe the owners and managers will read this and decide their new goal is to create more regulars.They defiantly were not sold out. I promise give this place one more shot to get it right. Rude and aggressive. Went in for a quick salad and pizza. Was a little shocked at the $18 Caesar salad price, but because I was sharing it with a pizza and with my husband I said okay. When the bill came we were overcharged. The Caesar salad now cost $19.50 because they put it on two plates. ( Did not ask for this nor was I told of the additional charge.) The pizza was also over charged by $0.80. When I spoke to the manager she got angry snatched the bill out of my hand and told me and my husband to get out and never come back. The total bill was over $75 and we ended up walking out because the rude manager did not want to reduce the bill by $2.00. Both my husband and I are seniors and we have the money to pay however, we don't appreciate being gouged. We have never in our lives been asked to leave a restaurant however, this jack...not only lost money for the restaurant but also lost customers. You cannot run a business like this. Placed a takeout/pickup order. No one called to say that the restaurant cancelled the order because the kitchen inexplicably closed mid day. When we went at the prescribed time to pick up the order, the staff denied that there any orders placed for pickup. Although we had the servers name that took the order. Stopped by for lunch today on a whim. Service was good, but the food leaves something to be desired. Case in point: I ordered the caprese salad, for $12 you would expect heirloom tomatoes, warm mozzarella, and crushed basil. Wrong on all scores. It was served without any seasoning, and with unripe beefsteak tomatoes. The cheese was fridge cold and the basil was ripped off the stem and had not been crushed to release its oils. When I asked for seasoning, the waitress said that it comes like that. I asked for some kosher salt, and was brought table salt. Horrible. The little things matter. We went to Fratelli Restaurant in Kanata to celebrate our daughter's 15th birthday. We know this restaurant for its excellence, but in this special occasion everything was indeed beyond expectations! Awesome! We had the most delightful service ever, food was exquisite as always, and we enjoyed the lovely, charming, and pleasant atmosphere that characterizes this place. Our daughter, her 18 guests!! and us had a fantastic time over there. The staff made them feel like the grown-up teens they are and were nicely treated like well behaved young adults. Kudos to all the staff involved in making this plan come to a perfect fruition, from the booking with the help and guidance of Lauren M and Tanya, all the way through the Chef of course, and the kitchen staff, and our wonderful server Simone, whose kindness, experience, and professionalism managed the event so smoothly that she made us all feel relaxed from beginning to end. I've been a customer here for years. I keep going back and can't stay away! The service is always friendly - they recognize us every time we go in. The food is always hot and delicious. I order a dish that is no longer on the menu, but they always accommodate me. There was one time that my friend ordered the lasagna (which is to die for) and it was a little too well done - but they re-fired the dish and gave us a dessert on the house. This was my first time eating at their new location in the same strip mall. I really like the new two floor set-up compared to the way it used to be. Fairly open concept but still cozy at the same time. The food was just as good as what I remember from the past. I had the Penne Pasquale which has grilled chicken, roasted red peppers and a rose sauce. It was a large portion (but not too big) with lots of flavor. I forgot to drink most of my beer until after my meal as I was enjoying the penne so much. The service was prompt and polite and it made for a pleasant evening meal. Went here last night with a large party ( 16 people) and had a pretty decent time. We were seated quickly, and our server was attentive with asking about any menu questions we had. As large parties are usually a tad overwhelming, especially when one server is looking after the group, I must say they did a great job handling us (especially after a few drinks). I ordered the enzo pizza, which was a large portion. It was a tad flimsy- definitely had to use fork and knife to eat, which i am not normally accustomed to doing, though I may be a tad biased, as I prefer a crispy crust that I can bite into. Beside me was the beef tenderloin, which looked well done. Seemed to be a tad too much sauce on the beef, and it flowed into the frites making them quite soggy, alas the meat made up for it, and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Across was the tortellini, which was a smaller sized portion, and the guest who ordered that dish seemed a tad disappointed with the turnout of it. She ended up using bread to counter the smaller size. She said the taste was good, but nothing above expectations for the price and wait time. Some of our party made modifications to the dishes, which were accommodated to very well. Overall, I think if ( and when) I go back in a much smaller group, I feel this will be a desirable place to have a relaxed, intimate meal. Hopefully it will be sooner than later, as there are many more dishes on the menu to try. read more

What do you do when one of your favourite restaurants serves you a really bad meal? Went to Fratelli tonight and ordered some of their standards...couple of pizzas for the kids, linguine pescatore for my wife and chicken part for me. It wasn't busy but service was pretty slow. The food arrived and the pizzas and linguine were excellent but the chicken parm was cold both the chicken and the pasta. I asked the server to heat it up and she took it back to the kitchen and came back a few min later with a fresh serving of hot pasta but the same cold chicken...I ate the nice hot pasta. I thought the server would take the item off the bill but she didn't. She discounted it by 50%. Overall pretty bad experience for a place that we usually like. Having to send a meal back puts a real damper on the whole experience and they should really try and make it right....not terribly impressed. read more

I invited my girlfriend out to Fratelli since she has never been there before and heard me talk about it so much. We ordered linguini di mari plates, which were seafood pasta plates, and calamaris as starters. The night went fine until she had the sudden urge to throw up. She did not enjoy it the second time I'll give you that. When I emailed them to explain what happened, the manager of the establishment switched to defence mode going on about how her chefs have cooked for 20 years and 25 of the same meals were made that night and no reports of food poisoning! what nerve! well of those 25 how many actually cared to say something if something happened? I cared because I was shocked to receive this rubbish service and on top of that she only offered to give me a gift card for two and didn't even send it, not that I even wanted it to begin with. Fratelli is one of my favourite restaurants in Kanata. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it's always delicious! Some of my favourite things on the menu are the fried zucchini, caprese salad and the pizza. Fratelli has become a staple in my family if we're looking to go out. Highly recommend! read more
