Some years ago in the winter time I remember going to this establishment for lunch , ordering a hamburger it was good.

It's pure greed/ insanity to REFUSE to seat two separate groups of two waiting when 2/3 of the restaurant is empty. You had to be four to sit in those seats... even if they remained empty for the rest of the day!! read more

Meh! I had the reuben and it was just ok but nothing more. There wasn't much to it and it hardly had any sauerkraut on it so there was no tang to it like you normally expect. Typical Russian dressing? Nyet- not even 1000 islands but yet an over abundance of mustard. Their fries that came with it were the best things on the plate. They reminded me of english chips (not to be confused with crisps). My mom ordered a Gyro which I warned her probably wasn't the smartest idea since I didn't see any Gyro spit anywhere but she insisted and then predictably, she starts complaining the meat was like leather etc. I believe she let them know how she felt about it. After arriving in Ottawa and before heading to the ice dragon boat practice run, we stopped by Meadows Diner on Preston Street in Ottawa's Little Italy for some quick food. It was cold outside and I was craving for something heavy and carby so I got their poutine while K got the Reuben Sandwich with salad. Meadows Diner is a small casual diner where there was one lady working behind the counter. We were anxious to get a few bites in before having to arrive at Dows Lake Pavilion to get ready for the practice. Luckily, the food did arrive within 3 minutes or so. Forget your chosen place of worship, this diner is the place to enjoy your weekend breakfast, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The boomer fellow's review is just plain inaccurate. I've enjoyed many meals at Meadows, and I intend to continue to do so as long as I'm in the area. My only complaint is that they aren't open longer, but if the continued quality (and lack of available staff) necessitate the hours of operation, it's a paltry complaint. I cannot recommend the Meat Lovers Poutine highly enough, it's my go-to. read more

No No No. Walking north from the tulips this is the first eatery we saw and being starved we stopped. Grabbed last table for 2; got coffees served right away and ordered...then we waited, waited, starving, waited some more, observed other tables not getting their food. Older lady, middle aged lady, young lady, bald guy cooking, one older guy in back room...so at least 5 people cooking cleaning serving and yet it all seemed just a a clusterF***. There was no organization. And it was a rare sight to actually see food being served. The cook (owner?) would step away from the grill to take someone's money....seems he was the only one authorized to run Interac machine. Waitress comes over just shy of an hour from when we placed our order to tell us that ours was next in the queue. I just dont get what they had been doing for the last hour. Food was meh diner quality. Suggest that the owner shut it down one Sat or Sun and go see how it should be done by going downtown to Zaks. Other thing is institute a "thank you very much, here is your hat" policy by giving people, who are done eating, their bill at their table in order to get them out and free up a table. Don't wait for them to stand up and wait at the cash for their bill. We watched one four some sit for 35 minutes chatting even though there were anywhere from 2 to 6 people standing in the doorway waiting for a table. How rude! read more

Steak and eggs for $12! Steak was nicely seasoned. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Coffee was better than I expected. Service was great. Atmosphere was nicer than most diners I've been to. Next time I will be trying the pancakes! read more

Simple little diner serving straight up eggs, pancakes, toast, potatoes, etc. Luckily we got there early enough to grab a spot seeing the line forming as we were leaving. Meadow's is a bit of an anachronism in the land of the high priced Italian joint, but if you are looking for a cheap breakfast or lunch, this is a good option. It's an oldschool style diner that is filled with regulars and friendly staff. I went with a coworker who seemed to know everyone who worked there by name and they were friendly to everyone, including the people that didn't address them using their first name! For food they have a lunch special for $10.00,today it was a quesadilla that came with fries or salad and a can of pop, which was more than reasonable for something that tasty. Their prices for other stuff are also very good, especially for how tasty it is. I only went there for the first time recently with a coworker but it has been added to my lunch rotation. read more

I love small friendly diners that seem to take you out of a big city and place you in a small town. Meadow's Lunch is one of these places and it especially stands out amongst all the pricey Italian restaurants that surround it on Preston. The prices are extremely reasonable, the staff is very friendly and the clientèle are mainly regulars. I've only had breakfast here, but I was pleased with my meal. For about $5 I got a full two egg breakfast (eggs, toast, hash browns, tea/coffee and bacon/sausage if I wanted it). I also somehow got a large chocolate milk included with the price, but I doubt that's something to always expect. The food isn't exceptional: it's what you normally get at a cheap breakfast joint, but it's the atmosphere I especially enjoy. I'll definitely come back again. read more

After looking at an hour wait at another restaurant, we'd though to give this a try. We didn't have to wait for a table which was probably a clue for what was ahead. We both ordered a standard breakfast. My wife's poached eggs medium, came soft and my over medium, came over hard. Hash browns were served with onions which was nice but otherwise had no seasoning. Sausages were good but the bacon was dry and looked like it had been cooked in an oven 4 hours ago. This place has become my go-to restaurant for great breakfast and lunch. I recently had a garden scramble (which is 3ggs with veggies served along with home fries, toast and coffee/tea), while my friend had the Blue Collar. The Blue Collar is a big meal so be warned: 2 eggs, meats, toast, 2 pancakes and coffee/tea. They usually wait to make the pancakes so you gotta tell them when you want it during your meal. The entire location went through some much-needed decor updates and I have to say it looks good! Despite being a hidden gem, this place gets busy in the mornings so be prepared to wait a bit. I stumbled upon Meadows Lunch while exploring Little Italy the other day. From the outside it doesn't look too promising, but I can assure you the food is excellent! The inside is set up like an old school diner and the staff are extremely pleasant and fun to talk to. My first visit I ordered the BLT for only $5 and it was delicious to say the least. This morning I returned with my sister and father and ordered the 1 egg breakfast. My sausages were a bit bland but the home fries were delicious and my egg was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend Meadows Lunch for a cheap breakfast or lunch! read more

The worst breakfast in years! The server was 10-11 year old boy,, who clearly was trying, but way too young to be serving the public. This might seem cute to some, but there are laws in this country about exploiting child labour, hire a proper server, someone who has experience and needs a job! This kid forgot my pancakes completely, 3X I asked him! When the owner caught the error, he brought them just as we were ready to leave! My son recommended this place for a family brunch! If you value your body, the grease level in this meal alone could hurt you, plus the peppers in in the home fries were burnt! Awful service! Food was nothing special! Charged me $13.00 full price!
