But we probably would have come anyway :) We love this place, great atmosphere and most of all, great service. The owner/host is always so pleasant and nice and remembers his regulars. Waitresses are all very nice and polite! Boyfriend had some breakfast plate and coffee, I had my usual corn dog with fries and salad, and a margarita. Our meals were great. Beans served with his breakfast were well seasoned and delicious. Fries are noticeably freshly made and so tasty - and I'm picky about fries. I guess my only complaint would be my drink - both today and on our previous visit, they seem to have changed their margarita mix or recipe - it tastes different and I liked it better before. We had come here for breakfast on a Monday morning at around 9:00 am. There weren't too many customers dining at that time therefore, we were able to get a large booth in the back of the restaurant which was comfortable for our party of five. The restaurant itself was very well-decorated, with many pieces of memorabilia from the past, along with being adorned with funky colours and chic furniture. We were greeted by a kind server, whom brought us menus, and provided us ample time to decide on what we had wanted. I chose the Queen Benny however, I opted out of the hollandaise sauce. The others in our party had a variety of egg dishes, with breakfast sausages, fries, and chilli. My son had decided on the chicken fingers with fries, while my daughter wanted the pancakes. We were surprised at how large the food items were. The breakfast sausages that came with my mom's meal were huge, along with the pancakes, and home fries. The Queen Benny had delicious pieces of smoked salmon underneath the egg however, the yolk made the bread taste wet, and the home fries were cooked with onion, which I didn't know about until receiving the order. I also would have liked for the home fries to be crunchier, as well as smaller, as they were much too large to take in one bite. We could tell that the food was well-prepared, and homemade. We appreciated the effort that was put into making our dishes look presentable. We also had excellent service throughout our stay, with the server replacing an item that we hadn't wanted, and doing so quite pleasantly might I add. It's been a very long time (8 years, omg, time flies) since the hubs and I have been to King Eddy. We thought it would be fun to bring the kids here while in the market. The interior is much bigger than I remembered and brighter (I think they went over some renos a while back and took over an additional building???) While the inside was cute, and fun with pastel blues and swivel diner chairs at the bar, and the kids would have loved it, we decided to sit on the patio and people watch. Their patio has an awesome view of the market, plus it was such a beautiful day outside. They definitely changed some things on their menu and I just wanted something small and couldn't decide, so go figure, I choose a plate of onion rings to eat for dinner. It was a lot and def great for sharing, but a lot for one person. The kids shared a plate of fries and the hubby had a burger and upgraded his side to a poutine. He can eat a lot and even he thought the portions were pretty generous. Service was to the point and welcoming but not smothering. Was looking for a quick food option and stumbled across The King Eddy. Had never seen it pop up in my travels to Ottawa but it is now a new favorite. It has that family diner feel, where everyone knows everyone and all are welcome. The staff is very attentive and super friendly. Has great lighting, coffee, and just space. My favorite thing is even though it was busy, the sound levels were really good, and not too loud. Now the food. When I travel to Canada, Poutine is a must for me. This is on a Sunday morning for brunch at about 11 am or so with a line of about 5 parties ahead of us The wait staff is fun and personable. They are helpful making recommendations and always got us what we needed as we went thru the meal. I tried the eddy breakfast and my mom got the omlette. All really well prepared and very delicious. We did find the potatoes a little dry but no biggie. They have a large number of tables both outside and in so they do take a good number of walk Ins. This is a very cool spot right in the heart of the Ottawa market. The portions are very large and you will not be left feeling hungry after at night if you went out partying or are hungover I got the chicken and waffles, which had three large pieces of chicken that were very well seasoned. They were a little bit on the salty end, but we're very enjoyable and substantial in terms of a portion. The waffles were delicious and were fluffy. There is a nice selection of drinks available. There are many different, cocktails, wine, beer, mimosas, caesars, etc. They also have espresso based drinks if you want something like an Americano. Although there is a large selection of drinks, do not expect anything fancy. For example, that mimosas were premixed and had more orange juice the liquor for sure. Sangria doesn't have much fruit in it. At the coffee drinks are nothing special. But regardless, it's a nice addition to the tasty food. The vibe of the location feels like Montreal or a trendy spot . It has quite a bit of seating. There are seating available at the bar, booths, and large tables. read more

Legit the best standard breakfast in the byward market area. Reasonably priced , large patio with coverings for each table and super large portions. We had the chicken and waffles and the veggie chilli which comes with eggs, guacamole and garlic rye bread. The flavour of the chilli was spicy and delicious. Very rich. I liked the fact that it wasn't that fake veggie meat often used in veggies chilli but instead more roasted veggies that seems roasted and perfectly spiced. Chicken was perfectly fried. My husband couldn't finish the chicken and waffles but loved each bite. Milkshake was good ( cookies n cream) but admittedly not as great as Zaks across the street ( try the pina colada!) however I can say that the breakfast items here are heads and tales above zaks. Very nice restaurant located at the Bywars market. The hostess was very nice. The beer was nice I had ordered a fish and chips. The fish was really tender inside and crispy on the outside, I loved that, the chips were also good. They have a small patio outside as well, that would be nice during summer time. The chicken club sandwich was also very good, actually one of the best clubs I've had. Would definitely recommend...they also offer brunch. read more

Always wanted to try this establishment and today, while car was getting a brake job & winter tyres put on, I went for a late Brekky and WOW! Not at all what I was expecting...Ordered the 'King Eddy'. The eggs were over-easy and I never had so much yolk flow outta my eggs. I think this place needs to work on hiring more experienced waiters if they expect to serve as many people as they do. We witnessed quite a few accidents and wrong orders all around. It's not the worst thing but it doesn't make for a memorable brunch experience. It's a great restaurant, lots of seating, cool atmosphere and great menu. But the wait time to get things, the cleanliness of the tables and overall restaurant are lacking. Adam and I both got the burger and we waited so long we ordered an entree but we ended up getting the entree after the burgers so that was useless. The burgers were basic and I don't see why I would eat another because it didn't taste any different than other burgers. The milkshake was pretty good though. Incredibly rude waitstaff. We were yelled at by a waitress as soon as we walked in to seat ourselves (we were waiting by the "Please Wait To Be Seated" sign). As soon as we sat down, the waitress was snippy and judgy and did not come by our table for 30 minutes despite us being the only customers in the restaurant. I ordered the King Eddy; a traditional breakfast with different options for meat, eggs etc. After I ordered, the waitress asked me what I wanted in a snippy tone- I repeated myself, as I thought she hadn't heard me. She then screamed at me asking what I wanted, how I wanted my eggs. Food came 30 mins later and was fine. My 1st meal in Ottawa, a cute outdoor and indoor joint that serves up burgers and sandwiches. The signature burger is called "The King eddy" so we had to order it. You can only get your burger cooked one way, pretty much medium well to done, this is a health law in Ontario Canada. The burger comes as two patties and served with cheddar and bacon. You can build your burger anyway you like, I opted to add an egg as well. I wanted to try their famous King eddy sauce but was bummed to find out they were out of it. The burger was OK, a litte dry but not surprised since it's cooked well done. I didn't get that taste of a beefy/meaty flavor. We tried the Quebec poutine fries and maybe it's me, but they were somewhat of a let down. The fries and cheese curds were not the issue, the gravy was, if you ever had a jar of Heinz brown gravy, that's exactly what it tasted like. Since I'm not a big proponent of gravy that tastes like it came from a jar, the poutine fell short for me. The fried chicken and waffles however were good. At first glance the chicken appeared to be over fried, but the meat was moist, tender and flavorful. The waffle was a tad on the dry side. Service was top notch as the servers were engaging and friendly. They had a nice selection of adult beverages, shakes and desserts which I did not partake this time. Cool place, we got great service, had brunch today and coffee was hot and fresh never lacking!! So we show up in Ottawa on Civic Holiday and wonder what that is - and find out that means many places are either on vacation that day (mostly government employees) or starting late. With our luck, it meant mostly starting late and that was no problem. We drove down from Montreal for a quick visit to Ottawa and it was nice - especially Parliament Hill and ByWard Market. The King Eddy was doing a brisk business early and often at its location next to ByWard Market ... and we really liked it. Nice selection of beer - I had an Toronto, Ontario-brewed Steam Whistle Pilsner ... liked it 5 stars worth. For eats we had a fried chicken sandwich (5 star good and rivals Chic-fil-A), a couple of King Eddy burgers (4 stars and perfectly done), and a small Poutine (4 star good with just a bit limp fries, but nice taste). The restaurant was busy and noisy, and a great place to relax and have a beer and burger. Loads of tables, VG service, front and rear entrances, and hooked up to a hotel. While this place can get loud and raucous, it was a fun setting with ambiance akin to a daytime well-lit cowboy bar. Loads of families, they also had a bar area where you could belly up if you didn't want a table or booth, and some tables outside for when the weather co-operates. Airy and full of windows, this is a roomy restaurant. Fun place and good food, try it. read more

The King Eddy is as good as it gets! Perhaps it's because I've been avoiding fried foods for 3 months, or because their secret recipe, but when my friend suggested trying the King Eddy in Ottawa for their fried chicken, I couldn't say no. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles, because I had never had chicken and waffles before. I've seen a few people order chicken and waffles from Sugarbowl in Edmonton and they looked delicious, so I was hoping for the same here. Not only did they look delicious (see my pics), but it tasted so, so good. The chicken was moist, the crust was crunchy! The gravy for the fries was gravy-ee. The waffles were delicious! Fluffy and soft and accompanied with *real* maple syrup. This may not seem like a big deal out east, as it is everywhere, but coming from the west, it is a delicacy and definitely a nice touch. The crispy, saltiness of the chicken paired with the sweet and fluffy waffle drizzled in syrup is a bite made in heaven! I would recommend this place and will absolutely be returning next time I'm in Ottawa. I've already told a few people in person to try it out! read more

A great place to go because there's something for everyone! I went there for the whole earth salad and it was awesome! Truly so fresh and a huge size so very filling! The vinaigrette was just the right amount and really delicious. On the other hand, my partner is more of a meat-eater and really enjoyed their NFC chicken sandwich (the fries that came with were awesome as well). If you go between 3-6pm you can access their happy hour drink menu and they are pretty good value! Really beautiful interior of the restaurant and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Trendy, popular eatery. Was there at lunch and It was so darn LOUD, I could barely stand it. I'd been there a year ago and remember enjoying the food but I didn't do a good job choosing this time (a corn dog and a poutine). The corn dog was a large weenie enrobed in their own batter and it came with a little teeny tiny salad on the side. While I appreciate them taking it up a step further, it was just too greasy. The poutine was just OK. I've had better. Our table had the yogurt and granola and that was wonderful. I saw some fried chicken going by that looked awesome. They've got to be doing something right to get the volume of customers that are coming in. I'll have to try something different next time. Service was good. I came to this restaurant for breakfast on Sun 3 Oct 21. The Morning Glory sandwich was fantastic. The King Eddy breakfast with peameal bacon was also excellent, although the plate size was a little bit on the smaller end of the scale. We also had a French Toast dish as a side order, it came filled with cream, strawberries and blueberries. Last but not least, we had a Reese's Peanut Butter sundae too. All of the above were delicious, and we enjoyed excellent table service from start to finish. Looking forward to another great meal at The King Eddy very soon!!! read more

The only English breakfast item I would order at any all-day breakfast restaurant. Pouched egg at a good consistency, but presentation wise, not so good. With peameal bacon and hollandaise that tastes more like gravy, not my favorite. Using biscuit instead of english muffin makes it a little on a dry side, but gives it a crunch. The home fries was a little disappointing, more of a hard rock crunch than crispy crunch. Cool fact is they serve unique alcoholic shakes and floats. There is also a good selection of local soft drinks and kombucha soda. Not the best, but worth a try. Would be better if there are less flies and maybe AC in the summer. read more

My girlfriend and I came to Ottawa from Toronto for the long weekend. Our first stop was Bywood Market and after a long drive our first activity was to find a place to eat. We noticed this restaurant right away because of how busy it was which was both a good and bad sign. We ordered the fried chicken and waffles to share, which comes with a side of fries and coleslaw. We read other reviews complaining that the chicken was burnt and not fully cooked. I don't know about them but our chicken was delicious. Golden and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Could have done with a little more seasoning or maybe marinade the chicken (buttermilk is a suggestion) but the fries, coleslaw, gravy and maple syrup made up for it. All were absolutely delicious with a special mention to the coleslaw. The only negative was the wait. We decided to sit outside on the patio to eat because the wait for seating inside would have taken 20 minutes. Once we ordered, the wait for our food was about 30 minutes. Worth the wait in my opinion but still a long wait nonetheless. We decided to order a set of pancakes after we finished the waffles. After waiting about 20 minutes our waitress, which was wonderful by the way (shout out to Miriam), said it would have been another 20 minutes. 40 minutes is just too long to wait for pancakes so we just cancelled the order. To King Eddys management and staff, I would consider maybe expanding your kitchen to support the demand or minimizing the menu to be able to produce the high quality food you already make at a faster pace. All in all the food was excellent. They could have easily gotten 4 stars from me but I have no choice but to give a 3 because of the wait time. read more
