    Fried Chicken Bacon Poutine
    Blake M.

Was looking for a quick food option and stumbled across The King Eddy. Had never seen it pop up in my travels to Ottawa but it is now a new favorite. It has that family diner feel, where everyone knows everyone and all are welcome. The staff is very attentive and super friendly. Has great lighting, coffee, and just space. My favorite thing is even though it was busy, the sound levels were really good, and not too loud. Now the food. When I travel to Canada, Poutine is a must for me. This is hands down the best poutine I've ever had with the chicken and bacon added. The chicken alone is a star for any dish. Would give this place more stars if I could!

We came here for brunch. I called ahead since we had some luggage with us and they sat us immediately at the bar and put our stuff against a wall. This is on a Sunday morning for brunch at about 11 am or so with a line of about 5 parties ahead of us The wait staff is fun and personable. They are helpful making recommendations and always got us what we needed as we went thru the meal. I tried the eddy breakfast and my mom got the omlette. All really well prepared and very delicious. We did find the potatoes a little dry but no biggie. They have a large number of tables both outside and in so they do take a good number of walk Ins. It reminded me a little of a 70s malt milkshake space :) I loved the mint chairs and pink accents.

Legit the best standard breakfast in the byward market area. Reasonably priced , large patio with coverings for each table and super large portions. We had the chicken and waffles and the veggie chilli which comes with eggs, guacamole and garlic rye bread. The flavour of the chilli was spicy and delicious. Very rich. I liked the fact that it wasn't that fake veggie meat often used in veggies chilli but instead more roasted veggies that seems roasted and perfectly spiced. Chicken was perfectly fried. My husband couldn't finish the chicken and waffles but loved each bite. Milkshake was good ( cookies n cream) but admittedly not as great as Zaks across the street ( try the pina colada!) however I can say that the breakfast items here are heads and tales above zaks. Highly recommend for a very filling breakfast / brunch !

    Morning Glory (OverEasy Egg)

HANDS DOWN the best breakfast sandwich I've had since my move from GTA! While browsing through UberEats the night before to schedule a breakfast order on a Saturday morning, I landed into King Eddy's menu. MORNING GLORY: I noticed the little caption mentioning it was voted by the Ottawa Magazine, I decided to give it a try. I totally agree with the critiques, it was AMAZING! Except I wish my egg didn't quite explode and leak everywhere, but I guess that's part of the "overeasy egg" selection. Already looking forward to schedule another order for Monday morning. I definitely want to give their lunch a try as well. Highly recommend!

Jeeze I can't even move after their Thanksgiving Eggs Benedict special. Great place. Clean and the staff is friendly and the owners' are all hands on. Definitely a diner vibe but very spacious space. They have a breakfast all day menu too!

vanilla milkshake split into two glasses

Very happy that we stumbled into this spot for breakfast, lots of choices to satisfy different cravings. Most of us went for the classic 2 eggs breakfast and a couple ordered the loco moco. It's definitely an eclectic type of menu. The food came nice, hot and large! Really decent portions for the price and we were all well stuffed. Also ordered the vanilla milkshake which wasn't very special. Though, I did appreciate them splitting it into two glasses. It came to the table looking a bit sad, no whipped cream or cherry on top and for $7, I would skip it. The service was excellent and staff aplenty.

I think this place needs to work on hiring more experienced waiters if they expect to serve as many people as they do. We witnessed quite a few accidents and wrong orders all around. It's not the worst thing but it doesn't make for a memorable brunch experience. It's a great restaurant, lots of seating, cool atmosphere and great menu. But the wait time to get things, the cleanliness of the tables and overall restaurant are lacking. Adam and I both got the burger and we waited so long we ordered an entree but we ended up getting the entree after the burgers so that was useless. The burgers were basic and I don't see why I would eat another because it didn't taste any different than other burgers. The milkshake was pretty good though. The chocolate taste was good and the consistency was great to slurp through a straw.

    The Margareddy

Throughly enjoyed my time at King Eddy! Stopped in for a weekend lunch! It was busy but they were quickly able to sit my husband and I in a shaded booth on their patio! Service was friendly and attentive! I ordered the Margareddy margarita and the patty melt! The margarita was a bit tart for my liking - could have used a bit of sweetness but still good nonetheless. The patty melt was delicious! Juicy, cheesy, toasted perfectly and extremely satisfying! The restaurant has a fun retro vibe too it! I would recommend this spot.

My 1st meal in Ottawa, a cute outdoor and indoor joint that serves up burgers and sandwiches. The signature burger is called "The King eddy" so we had to order it. You can only get your burger cooked one way, pretty much medium well to done, this is a health law in Ontario Canada. The burger comes as two patties and served with cheddar and bacon. You can build your burger anyway you like, I opted to add an egg as well. I wanted to try their famous King eddy sauce but was bummed to find out they were out of it. The burger was OK, a litte dry but not surprised since it's cooked well done. I didn't get that taste of a beefy/meaty flavor. We tried the Quebec poutine fries and maybe it's me, but they were somewhat of a let down. The fries and cheese curds were not the issue, the gravy was, if you ever had a jar of Heinz brown gravy, that's exactly what it tasted like. Since I'm not a big proponent of gravy that tastes like it came from a jar, the poutine fell short for me. The fried chicken and waffles however were good. At first glance the chicken appeared to be over fried, but the meat was moist, tender and flavorful. The waffle was a tad on the dry side. Service was top notch as the servers were engaging and friendly. They had a nice selection of adult beverages, shakes and desserts which I did not partake this time. I would love to come back to give them another try since they had other items on the menu that looked Awesome.

We're like wtf??? I can see this if you the hot new restaurant in town and huge demand, but quite literally there was four 4-seat tables sitting empty and no line-up. In any event, we stayed, sitting in some two-seater jammed in the corner. And then we ordered a breakfast. It's located in an industrial park just off Clyde. So their signage says "home of the bulgogi hoagie." I love beef bulgogi, so I went in with the intentions of getting that, but I discovered that the meat is marinaded not only in sesame oil (which I can eat), but also in sesame seeds (which I can't eat), so I could not experience their bulgogi hoagie :( and had to order something else. I settled on the fish tacos ($8) with a side garden salad (the menu said $4, but I was charged $4.25, and I wasn't going to quibble over a quarter, lol). I got 2 tacos and they were 2 large pieces of pan-fried white fish on top of iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes in a soft flour tortilla. I liked that the sour cream and salsa automatically came on the side because I hate it when places drench food in sour cream and sauces. The tacos were fine, but they lacked oomph. The fish was seasoned and wasn't bland, but there just wasn't any flavourful kick to it. As the expression goes, they weren't anything to write home about. I did appreciate that the fish wasn't oily/greasy though. So anyone who knows me knows that I look upon iceberg lettuce with great disdain. I feel that iceberg lettuce is a cheapy filler lettuce, and I much prefer a real spring/mesclun mix, or arugula, kale and/or spinach. I would even begrudgingly settle for romaine lettuce. So I was really disappointed that the salad that I received was mostly iceberg lettuce (3 simultaneous sad faces!). It did have some cucumbers, tomatoes, pickled beets, and green onions as well, and the vegetables were fresh, but I was still disappointed. I was trying to be healthy, but I should have just gotten the fries, haha. Service was very friendly and efficient. Decor is typical diner. They serve all day breakfast, and with a name like Miss Molly's Breakfast Club, I guess their specialty after the bulgogi hoagie is breakfast. I'd like to return and try their Eggs Benedict. Hopefully I'll be able to bump up my rating by a star or two. They have their own private parking lot with lots of parking spots.

Similarly, in the 'Foodie" world, the eating experience has to have Umami or any other of the 5 tastes. I can't believe the number of Adjectives used to describe food in these times. Sometimes, and I maybe dating myself here, we just want good tasting grub. Should I be calling it 'Comfort Food'? Depends on your definition. For example, food that provides consolation or a feeling of well-being, typically any with a high sugar or other carbohydrate content and associated with childhood (nostalgic or sentimental value) or home cooking. For the record, I grew up in England in the 60's & 70's. Beef drippings on Toast, full English Breakfast with fried (in bacon fat) bread & of course the ubiquitous 'Beans on Toast". To make a long review longer, I was in the Westgate mall/Carling Ave area recently for one of those visits to the Civic that require fasting as of the previous midnight. After my discharge, around NOON 30, I found myself in the parking lot of the Mall and noticed the Marque for Rockin Johnny's Diner. How could I resist. Especially since I was starving. No expectations or previous experience in this establishment to reference. But I was looking for some nostalgic Diner food. Once I received the menu, I found the Liver and Onions. Tender baby beef liver grilled and topped with sauteed onions, bacon & their famous gravy. I chose the fries as a side with corn. One can choose onion rings (why?), mashed potatoes or seasoned rice. I am very picky when it comes to my mash so, generally speaking, I only eat at home. Oh boy was it good. Everything reminded me of my earlier days. The liver was just the way I like it - not burnt but with a crispy sear on it. The bacon (at least 4 strips) covered the whole protein, it was accompanied with the right amount of onions and topped with a rich gravy. Two more items that are paramount - a warm plate so the meal stays hot til you're done and more than a few dabs of HP sauce were provided. Everything was marvelous. Like having an out-of-body experience. The only thing missing was a dinner roll or slice of bread & butter. I paired my meal with a coffee as tea in restaurants is never hot enough. Times have changed as the beverage was almost $4 but it was a bottomless cup. Final bill was a bit pricey for everyday but every once in-a-while a nice treat.
