My mom gave me some money and I went to the Mr. Sub counter and ordered a pizza sub and when the guy asked me what I wanted on it, I said lettuce and he said "you want lettuce on your pizza sub?!?" And I said "yeah, just put it on!" And he mumbled "you're a sassy little girl." Lol. Admittedly, lettuce on a pizza sub is weird, but I liked it back then. Anyway, Mr. Sub is a Canadian chain and it was super popular because it was the only chain selling submarine sandwiches until Subway came along and kind of crushed them :( There aren't many Mr. Subs around anymore. Only 3 here in Ottawa. This one, one at Emvale Acres Shopping Centre and one inside CHEO (the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario). I rarely eat subs these days, but this location is fine, no complaints. The chain is still around though, for which I am happy. They've also come a long way since their days of only offering a few types of subs. They sell meatless Gardien products and they have wraps too now. The pizza sub is still on their menu by the way. One of these days I'll go order one with lettuce ;) This location is not far from my house in a little strip mall with Shish Kabab House, Markie's Smoked Meats and Gabriel Pizza. We had the Greek and Caesar salads which were good, nice size and reasonably priced as well. The shop only has two tables and an outside bench, so pretty small, but perfect for take-out. Staff is friendly, if a bit inexperienced. We'll be back. PS: the lattes were great!

They also have a second location on Canotek, which opened sometime in 2022. Their specialty is paninis, obviously, but they have amazing cronuts! I'm not sure if they bake them themselves or get them from another vendor, but they are delicious. They are a bit spendy at $7.50 but are so good. I love how they are cream filled. Staff are friendly. Looking forward to trying their paninis in the future :) You can park for up to 2 hours in the visitor spots in the parking lot for free. If you park for longer, you have to park in the regular spots and pay for parking.

I asked them to hold the onions, corn and Southwest ranch dressing, so my bowl had the remaining ingredients, which were rice, lettuce, cucumber, pickles, bell peppers, black beans, tzatziki and of course grilled chicken. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. We went in at 9:33 pm and were first told we could only have drinks and not food and as we were going to walk in to sit the person in charge who has been lovely in the past told us last call was at 9:30 and they couldn't serve us. We said yes but it is only 9:33 and she reiterated we were after last call. This from a person who has served us many times after this so called last call. And the place was empty other than staff so if they didn't want anymore customers why didn't they lock the door. We gave always enjoyed what we thought was this little gem of a place but are very sour about this experience and will find another place for after dinner drinks. - Very unsatisfied and disappointed.
