I generally avoid Vietnamese restaurants that specialize in Northern Vietnamese cuisine, because I don't like the taste nor smell of fish sauce, and Northern Vietnamese cuisine is usually heavy on the fish sauce and the fish sauce tends to be more pungent and intense. I realize this is a generalization, but I usually just stick to Southern Vietnamese cuisine to be safer. However, Ha Noi Pho is super popular in Orleans, so I figured I'd give it a try. I had dinner there with my mom and I specifically asked for no fish sauce in my meal. My mom did not make this request and said her pho had an unpleasant fish sauce smell to it :( Mom doesn't like fish sauce either, lol. I got the grilled beef and spring rolls vermicelli $11.95 and my mom got the small pho with rare beef and well-done beef ($8.50). I was amazed at how tender the beef was. It was really flavourful too. It was not as lean as I like, but definitely not as fatty/gristly as some places. The spring rolls were hot and crispy, and filled with carrots, vermicelli and ground meat. I was a bit disappointed that the wrapper was the wheat-based wrappers and not the more traditional rice paper wrappers. However, I was pleased that I got 2 spring rolls, as most places only give you one. My dish came with shredded lettuce, 3 slices of cucumbers and some shredded pickled carrots. Vegetables were fresh. This dish usually comes with fish sauce, so I definitely said "hold the fish sauce!" My mom had pho, and pho usually does not contain fish sauce, so mom didn't make the "no fish sauce" request. Well, surprise! The pho here has fish sauce! Mom was not happy. She was also disappointed with the well-done beef. She thought it was mostly fat. She did like the rare beef though, which was tender and lean. Service was very polite and friendly. The restaurant has funky decor. There are little figurines of women in traditional Vietnamese dress around the restaurant, as well as vases, a large decorative fan, and other knick-knacks. They even have a bicycle and a parasol over the entrance. It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking. If I were to base the rating solely on my food, I would give it 4 stars, but I need to knock off a star due to my mom's dissatisfaction. If you don't like fish sauce, you have been forewarned!!

Great food and friendly service! I don't get why the rating is so low this is probably the best viet food in Orleans. The pho was great and the pad Thai was one of the best I've ever had!

I wish you could smell this! Wonderful aroma of onion cinnamon ginger .. a warm hug on a cold day ! Especially if you've got a Cold.

December 11: Still my GO TO place for pho. Especially if I have a cold. The pho has the best smell! I could just smell it all day! And delicious broth! Staff seem nice also. We always order the number 20; with extra beef A nice, hearty meal on a cold winter day. We come here a couple times a month! Now that I have tried three other pho places in Orleans : ha noi is my top pick. Good aroma, ginger, cinnamon , star anise , onion. Fast service They soak lemon in their water They need to clean the nooks and crannies more, window sil, etc

The place was very steady but we got one of the few remaining tables. The menu has a lot on it and there is another, separate menu for specials. The complimentary herbal tea was nice and hot for a very cold day. Ordered was a pho for me, extra spicy and my friend got a beef and veg dish and they subbed her noodles for rice upon her request and accommodated her peanut allergy. The food was good, also. I ordered us shrimp spring rolls to start, 2 to an order. Very good. $6. The entrees... My broth was nice, albeit mild. Not that clovey taste I've experienced at other places. My pho had shrimp, beef and chicken. It was a house specialty so it only came in a medium size. This was fine as I ordered extra noodles for $2.50 to go and had some at home for dinner tonight. And, it will feed me for lunch one more time tomorrow. The containers were leak proof and the liquid survived the drive home. The staff were unobtrusive yet attentive and kind. Said to be family owned and that everything is homemade. I'll return! I love Vietnamese food and love supporting these places. I will avoid weekends though as I was told people are lined up at the door for seating. Was it the best I have ever had? No but it fit the bill and I'm glad I live close by as there are 100 other dishes I'd like to try.

It was delicious and the portion was pretty generous; you get a lot of beef! I got the Bun Bo Hue ($14) which is a spicy beef noodle soup with lemongrass. The broth was tasty and so flavourful! The portion was pretty substantial too. My boyfriend got the Bun Rieu ($14) which is a crab/tomato/pork broth based noodle soup. I had a taste of the soup and it was also really good! I especially loved that they give you a full variety of herbs to add to the soup noodles, which not all Vietnamese restaurants do these days. Too bad this location is far from me, but I would definitely come back for more!

We were lucky in our timing and managed to sit as we arrived. We always order spring rolls and rice wraps no matter where we go, and these were good. Our table enjoyed a variety of soups from a basic chicken and egg noodle to rare beef rice noodle and two special soups, one based on a traditional broth and the other Tom Yum. The traditional broth was good, flavorful and fragrant. The Tom Yum had just the right amount of heat, but was too much of a good thing for me to really enjoy it fully. The portions were good, quick and delicious. Definitely would visit again!

The service is very friendly and efficient from the moment you enter. On to the food. What I don't like is when the fresh spring rolls are made in advance and are left out until someone orders. The rice paper becomes dry and chewy and that ruins it. Sadly, Chez Lam served them like that, so they can be better. The pho soup was great. There is good flavor and ingredients are fresh. They have all the condiments on the table. I like my soup with more onion shavings and shallots but it was still tasty. I found the service to be extra good and attentive. That was much appreciated. Prices are similar to other Vietnamese restaurants. They accept cash, debit, credit. Location wise: Chez Lam is in a strip mall with a gas station, dollar store, massage therapy clinic, and a few more shops.

Found this place on Yelp and a good star rating and I was happy with the results. It's located at a large strip mall quite a ways away in Barrhaven - hence the name. Grabbed takeout at 8:15pm and it was good. Got 2 orders of spring rolls which were still very crispy when we got back from the 20 min drive. A little on the greasy side but they had fried it up fresh. The house special combo had shrimp, beef, pork and chicken - a decent amount of protein and tasty. A somewhat small restaurant but still had a few tables of patrons at that time. The staff were nice. Plenty of parking.

While parking, I searched the strip mall to find a spot for me to order food. Barrhaven Vietnamese Restaurant popped out among all the other chains. I called in an order for pickup. When I arrived the place was moderately busy, but i was greeted immediately. The restaurant itself is very cute and cozy. I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner. As we were walking out, my children noticed someone eating pho and even requested we come back. I ordered the Vermecelli with chicken and I am so grateful I did. There was so much chicken and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Even the salad was green and fresh, along with cucumber that had been cut into tiny strips. It also came with two fried spring rolls. I prefer regular spring rolls, but they were delicious, very crispy and flakey. I prefer my vermecelli completely mixed, so I added the dressing, shut the takeout box, and shook it up. This made it easier to have noodles, greens, and chicken with every bite. I was too hungry to think to take a photo, but will add some on future visits. Definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

It was good compared to others I've tried but still missing a flavor in the broth. Service was quick. The guy who gave us the menus handed us with a paper to write down our order but didn't speak which was fine because we understood what we had to do. Everything was cooked as we ordered and the vegetable spring rolls were amazing and piping hot when they came out. We couldn't even eat/touch them until our main dishes came out. They were also quick to refill our waters as well. Interestingly enough, the guy who handed us our menus actually finally spoke perfect English when we went to pay. The beef was really tender and flavourful. I did get a fatty and gristley piece though :( but on the most part, the beef was lean. The chicken was lean and a tiny bit dry, but still flavourful a tasty. The shrimp were medium sized and ok. Not that plump nor juicy, but for the price, not surprising. The spring roll was mostly wrapper and too oily for my liking. The rice dish came with fresh cucumbers and pickled radishes and pickled carrots. The vermicelli dish came with shredded lettuce and bean sprouts, which were underneath the vermicelli. It also came with pickled carrots and crushed peanuts. The fresh vegetables were fresh and the picked vegetables had a good sour bite to them. We also got a tub of fish sauce, which neither of us like, but my dad does, so I saved it and gave it to him on the weekend when I went to see my parents. I appreciated that they labelled the fish sauce with a warning to open slowly (with a smiley face, lol). Food is packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for environmental and health reasons. Service was very courteous and efficient. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I returned in 22 minutes and they were just tying up the bag. Perfect timing! Note that the prices on their takeout menu (pictured) are outdated. My dishes were listed as $9.50 each on the menu, but I was charged $11.75, which is still a great deal. Prices have gone up as a result of the Covid Pandemic, so I get it. I would just suggest that they print new takeout menus. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path in Chinatown.
