Had a drink at the bar before dinner and the bartenders are old pros and one of the last few places to do a generous free pour, no jigger. A nice way to start the evening. This is the only steakhouse or restaurant I've found in LA County, that does a true prime-rib dip sandwich, their "Beefeater Dip". Not those things with paper thin slices of overcooked beef, although tasty not a true prime-rib sandwich. I went to college in San Francisco where Haufbrau's were a thing, sadly no more (No German food in sight other than chubby knackwurst) with rather a short selection of quality food served sort of buffet style. There was at least a half a dozen Haufbrau's serving roast turkey, prime rib, corned beef, ham, spaghetti etc. and a selection of sides, mashed and boiled potatoes, turkey dressing, veggie, etc. and great SF sourdough bread. They all had great "French Dip" sandwich's their signature dish, (because of the competition to outcompete) on amazing SF sourdough baguette with true Au Jus. They always had lines around the block particularly at lunch time. In 1971 you could get a hefty French dip, with two sides, mashed potatoes and turkey dressing with gravy and a Coke for 90 cents. Today $30.00 bucks at Tommy's Joynt 55 years later. . Now have lived long enough to tell my story, nothing changes. I can remember my mom telling me when she was high school in 1941, you could buy a hot dog, chips and a coke and entrance to a movie for .25 cents on Fridays, $13.25 without the movie today at Pinks, 84 years later. Just a side note Pink's makes one of the best hamburgers in LA. Go finger, indeed. . The point is, I'm spoiled. A French Dip isn't truly a French Dip unless the beef is thick sliced off a rib roast. Taylors French Dip is the real thing. If anyone knows of a good or better one please let me know. There are somewhat of, not too close, two second places, Tam O'shanters Atwater Village and at Chris & Pits, of the famous bbq sauce, in Downey and Bellflower, but not on par with Taylor's. Checkout Tommy's Joynt on Yelp in San Francisco for the feel of a Frisco Haufbrau, one of the last ones standing. It looks a mess, but in spite of that the food was great. Don't ever get the "Beefeater Dip," if you are not prepared to be unhappy with having anything less, which I guarantee will be your fate. The only thing I don't like about the restaurant is the awful lighting. I feel like I'm in a dungeon, everything feels like a shade of gray and dingy . A hang out for zombies, not flattering to the decor or skin. The place would look a whole nicer if they hired a quality professional lighting designer. It would really bring out the charm of the bygone era design. Plus it would increase their revenue. It's the one thing so many restaurants fail at, and they have no concept of what I'm talking about. 2/1/26 My coworkers & I met up for dinner tonight to celebrate one of near & dear work mate, who has recently retired. This steakhouse serves up delicious & quality food, semi, upscale ambiance & attentive service. Our reservation was for 5:30 & we were promptly seated at a comfortable large booth. Drinks were ordered & warm table bread was brought out with butter. I read mixed reviews for the onion soup but I decided to keep an open mind about it because honestly, I don't think I've ever had onion soup, ever. My colleagues ordered scallops for appetizers which I skipped. I'm not big on steak so ordered fish & chips. Everyone ordered some type of steak. Our server was friendly & accommodating. My onion soup arrived & it was absolutely delicious. I would've preferred it bubbling hot but it was fine--Perfectly savory & a tiny bit sweet from the onions. Our dishes were brought in almost instantaneously. Everyone clamored at how everything tasted delicious & savory good. I tasted the creamed spinach but it was way too rich for my taste. For dessert, we ordered 4 different ones to try: bread pudding, cheesecake, crème brûlée & key lime pie. You can really discern the bourbon taste on the sauce for the bread pudding. My favorite was the crème brûlée (crunchy sugar topping, smooth & creamy crème). The cheesecake was pretty good with blueberries. The key lime pie tasted a bit cloyingly sweet with a bit of tang. It went exceptionally well. We were on that side of town and my Lady said how about we drop in at Taylor's in La Canada Flintridge. I thought yes it was on the way home and we always felt so comfortable there. Also the drinks are a generous pour and we like passing by the tidy bar and quiet patrons chatting away the evening. Now I do love bars. The freindly place that allows one to quench their thirst And allows one to also feel a warm feeling of enjoying the ambience in a cozy area of the bar with people who live in the town as well as people coming from their own town to enjoy this bar it's ambience and the quiet hum of people chatting softly awaiting the real reason they have arrived at this wonderful restaurant , the food. But I must first talk of the two month renovation of the main dinning room. The booths against the walls are still the same warm, red as red can be soft classy leather. Servers are the same crew and some new faces like Bobby who took well care of us all evening. I have seen him before and he once again handled himself well with his freindly service. Before I sat down I looked at the wall behind us with several painted scenes of the restaurant and its fabulous areas surrounding La Canada. The woman has painted the scene in muted colors of excellence in just two months. The wall on the other side maintained its place in Taylor's history with wonderful scenes of the American West. The beautiful glass tapestry overhead in the middle of the room also helped to tie the old and the new overall look as showcasing a comfy historical restaurant and bar, so the main thing about Taylor's is their consistency. Sat on the heated patio with a fire place on a cool night - worked out great! Reservations are not taken but waited less than 30 min. Not a lot of standing room but a few places to sit. Gave Taylor's steakhouse a try, since it's been a staple in the area for quite a while. It was an overall good meal, but probably not somewhere that I would come to that often. The good: - I liked the old school Steakhouse atmosphere. It's what one would expect from a traditional steakhouse. - The food was really good. Steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. We both had the filet with crab that was the Saturday night special, and enjoyed it. - Prices are very reasonable for a steakhouse. Specials were a good value, and the wine list had some reasonable prices. Improvement areas: - Service was fine, but it was nothing special. Our server was not very personable. For some reason, I felt as though she was looking at us like we were much younger than we are. I can't really put my finger on it though. It was almost like we were a nuisance that we had to be served. A really weird thing happened at the end of the meal. The pen must have dropped on the floor when the bill arrived. When she came to pick the bill up, she asked us if we had the pen. I looked around, and didn't see it, but i felt like she wanted me to get under the table to search. Why even ask the customer that? - I would think there would be complementary bread. We were asked if we wanted bread for the table, but then they charge $3 for it. Not expensive at all, but I also didn't enjoy the sour dough bread very much. For $3, why not just make it free and increase menu prices by $.50? 5/5 because the steak is soft, fresh, and thick, and the sauce just made it perfect! But to be honest, my husband and I have learned that we would always want our steak with crust and so we will need to stick with our usual! But I am glad that we tried it! I had the Prime Rib Dinner Cut with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, dinner salad, and a sundae for dessert. My husband had the Prime Rib Taylor's Cut with sautéed mushrooms. We also got escargot and jumbo bacon-wrapped scallops, both were savory and tasted buttery enough. Additionally, the reason why I'd give it a 5, for our server, Mr. Mario, is accommodating, knowledgeable about the food, and makes sure that he attends to his guests promptly. Ambiance is intimate, the bathroom is clean, while parking may be a challenge when it's busy. P.S. I just wanted to share that the bread wasn't warm and the butter was still frozen like it was just taken out of the fridge. Reserved the wine room for a dinner experience for our first time at Taylor's and we had a great experience! We opted for the three course dining experience with salad of your choice, prime rib (with cream spinach and mashed potato sides, creamy horseradish sauce, and au jus), and a vanilla hot fudge sundae to finish off. It was spectacular. The Moscow mule was a great add on to the meal. Our group had our own secluded spot in the wine room (with early booking) and felt like the staff was always making sure we were satisfied. All the staff who took care of us were friendly and the ambiance is a slightly more upscaled vibe. The restaurant offers complimentary valet parking, although there is a small parking lot as well in the back shared with other neighboring restaurants/gym. I would highly recommend this prime rib course, and will be back to try other items on the menu! read more

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the great old school steak house vibe. There are paintings of the surrounding LA area on the wall to make it look like you are looking out of a window. The service was great. We were quickly seated, got drinks and some warm and soft sourdough bread. One of the specials was the rack of lamb with a mint sauce. This dish was amazing. Perfectly cooked and tender meat with an amazing flavor. I also tried the bone in ribeye and it was ok. The ribeye was cooked to order, medium, and came out as expected. It was just lacking a little flavor. The vegetable sides I ordered, asparagus and mixed veggies, were just basic steamed veggies. For dessert I had the key lime pie and it was great. Taylor's is on the pricier side so I expected the steak to be great but it was just good. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend the rack of lamb! read more

Taylor's serves delicious prime rib in a generous cut that is perfect for hungry guests. The au jus is warm and makes the best accompaniment to that hand carved medium rare prime rib. Sister got the Filet chili, which I tasted as well, questioning the Filet verse Chuck, I make filet chili often. Service was better once the "servers" got involved. We had to ask twice for table settings, and refills on soda. Not there fault, but the young family behind us had a young boy that needs better "out to dinner", manners. Pretending to vomit for several minutes was a little much to ignore. I used to come here very often, now for a treat. I will be back again. We unfortunately had the disadvantage of having Chase as our waiter. To start, our dinner has been going on for 3 hours and it's still not done with how slow the service is. They brought food we did not order and he got most of the items wrong. My husband ordered one thing and they brought something different and way more expensive, and when it came to desserts, his order went in one ear and went out the other. Rather than bringing out the food and drinks he would check in every 15 minutes. My father in law had to mention his medical condition in order for him to move faster to bring the salads. Yet still he took his sweet time bringing all the foods out. Overall this was a horrible experience, it left a bad taste in our mouth and we will most likely not be returning. Save your time and energy and go next door to Sakura instead. read more

I had been craving steak, which is not often. I wanted something simple without the fancy shrills and so breaking the bank. My bf mentioned Taylor's for out date night and it looked pretty solid. They had plenty of parking in the lot. I would say dress code is business casual, although I saw a guy with t-shirt and a hat. The inside has a very old school mood with dim lighting. They serve complimentary bread and butter. The bread is I believe sourdough, which was cut in thick slices. Soft and chewy. I do wish the butter was not so cold and hard. It made it difficult to spread on the already soft bread, so you end up eating small chunks of butter. We ordered a bottle of Stags Leap, a Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm not a big wine person or a fan of cabs but my bf said this is a very good one and that I would like it. I will say, it did not disappoint. It did not feel as heavy or rich, but rather a bit smoother and sweeter. Paired very well with the steak. _Taylor's Classic Caesar Salad (Half $9.95 / Full $12.95) I got the half size, which was pretty good size for a starter salad. I was afraid the dressing was going to be heavy handed, but it was the perfect amount. A classic and simple salad. _Filet Mignon ($47.95) We both ordered this is medium rare. It was a bit dry on the edges but luckily as I got to the center, it was perfectly cooked medium rare. Good seasoning. I got the sauteed mushrooms ($2.95) and mashed potatoes ($2.50). The mushrooms were the right amount of saltiness and the mashed potatoes were nicely whipped. I like the small bits of the potato skin. My bf got the asparagus, which was pretty bland. Overall great service and price is very fair. You can't get that kind or price anymore for a steak, especially the side dishes. If you are craving steak, this will do the work. read more

Friday night was packed but luckily the wait was 20 minutes to get seated. Ordered the following: Clam chowder: had a slightly fishy taste. Wasn't the best or freshest clam chowder. There were a few pieces of oyster and needed some pepper flakes. Chilled jumbo prawn cocktail: this is a must order if you like seafood. The prawns are juicy and thicc and really refreshing with the cocktail sauce. Bone in ribeye: flavorful and fatty. Just thinking about it making me drool. Definitely a must get! The best prime rib I've ever had in my life. Granted, most of the prime rib I've ever eaten has been at hotel buffets (where it sits under a heat lamp), but the memorable ones have been at legit spots -- The Four Seasons, The Ritz Carlton, St. Regis, Bellagio and Caesar's Palace. Rarely do I order prime rib at a steakhouse because, ya know, when in Rome...you order STEAK. Still, having had Lawry's, Ruth's Chris, Peter Luger's, Mastros, Steak 48, Houston's and Flemmings prime rib offerings in the past, I'm no stranger to non-buffet versions of this as well. Anyway, whatever. The dinner cut prime rib at Taylor's La Canada is INSANE. It's perfectly cooked, as are the sides, everything is large in portion and no-frills in preparation, and the service is impeccable without being pretentious. Really great experience. Entering from the parking lot entrance, to the bar, there is a not so pleasant odor like mold type odor. (Needs attention) The 14oz prime NY steak was good and prepared medium rare to my liking, the escargot very tasty just a little too oily for me. Scallops were realy good, Sandabs also were very good. I'll start with the good. The drinks (Manhattans and a martini) were tasty and well made. We ordered a filet and a burger which were both enjoyable. Our server and bartender were friendly and accommodating. I've been here before but not for several months. I do not remember being charged for bread. And I don't recall the steak not coming with some kind of side. I had the dinner salad which was lettuce, carrot and two grapes tomatoes (7.95). At the bar my Manhattan was $16.50 and at the table it was $18.50. I don't know why it was different in different locations. I left feeling nickel and dimed. I usually don't leave yelps unless it was a 5 star experience, but I'm disappointed that tonight wasn't so great. I'm 62, so I've eaten at a lot of restaurants. And ordered a lot of martinis. Tonight my bill at Taylor's included something I've never seen before-an extra charge for ordering my martini "up." This is just stealing. If they want to charge more for their martinis, then increase the price. But don't have the waiter confirm i want my martini up, rather than on the rocks (which no one, ever, wants), without telling me about the extra charge, and then put it on my bill. When I go out to dinner, I don't want to go some place where I feel I'm trying to be tricked. Taylor's has become that place. read more

Well firstly the bartender doesn't know any of the drinks on the menu. Expresso martini full of sweet creamer... i left it, it was undrinkable, the lamb i order Medium rare was rare on the top and the rest was WELL DONE... his french martini was a disaster too. I also was never offered any bread at all their bread is usually so good but i didn't even get offered any! I also waited 30 minutes for very over cooked food! I will never be back $150 for over cooked food and a bartender that had no idea how to make any drinks except wine and beer!!! read more

I got so distracted with a business call one night and left without paying, no one said a word until I came back two weeks later! Just the kindest people, a happy place. First of all... I dined here many years ago and absolutely loved it. Decided to try again and was thoroughly disappointed. The food was average. The service was absolutely terrible and the ambiance was lackluster. With respect to the food, the French Onion soup was very good as well as the London Broil appetizer. The filet mignon was subpar, pretty fatty while the martini's were quite good. With that said, I most likely will not return.. too bad, as I love a good steak house! read more
