Yesterday I had such a great experience, and it was all thanks to Melissa and Nancy. From the moment we walked in, they made us feel genuinely welcome. Their friendliness felt natural and sincere, and they both went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of the entire time. They were extremely knowledgeable about both the food and drinks. Every recommendation they gave was spot on, and they took the time to explain and help us decide without ever making us feel rushed. You can tell they really know their take pride in what they do. What stood out the most was how they elevated the whole atmosphere. Their positive attitudes, and ability to connect with us, made the environment feel upbeat and relaxed. Even when it got busy, they handled everything smoothly and still checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Service like that is hard to find, and it truly makes a difference. I had not been back to this place in almost 8 years and decided to give it another try for lunch. The restaurant was mostly empty, so there was no lunch rush at the time. There were 4 of us. We ordered three soups and a salad to start. The salad came out first, the soups arrived second, and the bread was brought out about 15 minutes later--after we had already finished the soups. Entrées were also delayed. I was served a meat lasagna instead of the vegetable lasagna I ordered and was later told they were out of the veggie option, without being asked about a substitute. I then ordered a cheese pizza with tomatoes and basil. After a very long wait, it arrived in a to-go box with hardened cheese. ( I never asked for a to go box!) Once home, I discovered the pizza had no sauce. Overall, the experience involved long waits, incorrect orders, and poor communication, despite the restaurant not being busy. I ordered the pepperoni pizza using a food delivery service app in January. It was alright, kinda oily. Pepperoni was distributed mostly evenly on the pizza. I didn't go inside but it looks quaint. read more

Everytime I've come into this place it takes over 5 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that I'm waiting to pick up an order. Even after up to 2 or 3 employees have noticed I'm standing there yet say nothing. Rarely are employees even out in the front dining area monitoring drinking guests who get carried away and help themselves behind the bar. I work a couple of miles away from this restaurant and didn't know it was there. There is not a lot to choose from but I'm so happy I found Caruso's tucked quietly behind the busy Foothill businesses. I went last week and already have been back again. Came here with my husband and I was honestly really anxious. I don't go out much and was nervous sitting at the bar. Candace the bartender was amazing. Service horrible, however I don't blame the servers because they were working VERY hard. The restaurant was packed and only about three servers in the entire place. Bar and all seating around the bar (about 3 rooms full) - packed but NO bartender. The wait staff has to wait on all tables AND bartend at the same time. Took about 60 minutes for one drink order. Pizza is usually delicious (when we order delivery) but they got the order wrong. Wine was horrible- probably because it's from a box-this is not an opinion this is a fact. This is an Italian restaurant serving boxed wine- unbelievable. There is no one to blame other than the management and the owners. You can't tell me that they don't see all these horrible reviews going back at least a year and still they've done nothing to improve it. I have no respect for any manager that puts their staff through this and doesn't even show up on what are the busiest days and evenings. Hire better management otherwise you don't deserve the business. And by the way, you have no idea how to handle a reservation system. Even so, there are some really good restaurants that don't take reservations and they handle things just fine because they are properly staffed and they know how to treat their customers. Again the servers are not at fault. They are freaking awesome. Manager and owner..... shame on you for treating your staff this way. DO BETTER. read more

Not sure if they have an actual trained, experienced bartender, as the waitress made our drinks. We paid for them, but didn't drink them, and spat them out. The gravy (marinara) is tasteless and watery, and according to my 4 year old who is OBSESSED with meatballs, "these meatballs are very bad. They need to do better next time." I don't ever leave reviews like this for restaurants because these are people's well being... but this food is just plain not good. I live about a mile away, and by the time I got home with my food, it was cold, to the point of needing to be reheated. Who knows how long it was sitting out. We came in at 11:30 on a Sunday - it was pretty quiet which was what we were hoping for since we were catching up and wanted to talk (and hear each other). There was a distinct smell of floor cleaner, and the mop bucket was off to the side but still in the dining room which was not ideal. This review hurts me more than it's going to hurt this place. Sigh. We moved to Tujunga in January 2020 and were so happy to find our favorite pizza spot only 3 blocks from our home. Through the pandemic, we easily ordered almost weekly. As of recently, it seems so much has changed. From the staff, to the ridiculous wait times, it's been incredibly disheartening. I've ordered from here 3 times in the past 2 months. The last 2 times, I was told my pizza would be ready in 30 mins. I arrive 35 mins later and STILL have to wait an additional 20 mins just standing at the front door. WHEN IT ISN'T EVEN BUSY! They're literally forgetting to put my order in. There is no other explanation for it. Tonight I ordered a pizza. I always ask for light cheese and they just don't know what that is anymore. Our pizza was also burnt to a crisp on the bottom. I was barely able to get through a slice. What is going on, seriously? I would call and complain, but I've seen with my own eyes after the many times I've had to wait for my food at the front door, how uninvolved the owner is with this establishment. He doesn't even respond to the bad reviews with any empathy or justification. To the owner: Please find out what's going on in your kitchen, for your customer's and your establishment's sake. I have to break my very personal belief on not leaving a business a bad review ever for the first time. (Please refer to the photos I attached of the conversation I had directly with the owner) Went there for my birthday last night, made a reservation on Sunday for 6:30 on Tuesday. Ill make this brief since no one wants a long review: - Got there on time. Had to wait over 20 minutes once seated to even get my drinks. - The waitress NEVER came back for refills, and I had to get up 3 times to the front of the establishment to ask for refills. - When the food came out 4 / 6 of my family got their food. My father didn't get his food till 15 minutes later. Then the waitress comes out and tells me she "Forgot " my order and has to make it from scratch. Mind you, everyone has eaten at this point. - I wanted the owners number. I called him and at first it seemed like he wanted to make this issue right, but boy was I wrong. He is unprofessional, rude, and dismissive. Please take a look at my text conversations I had with this jerk. I went here for years. I was best friends with one of the waitresses that worked here for years too. Supported them during the pandemic, and then this is the sort of response I get to a horrible experience. What the hell happened to this place?? Used to be pretty good but it is terrible now. Ordered chicken Parm and a salad. The salad was actually very good. The chicken Parm...not so good. it was greasy and over cooked with a slab of sliced cheese tossed on top and was just unacceptable. The house wine was warm and bad at the same time not sure how they managed to serve warm wine, but my hats off to them. Fortunately their bar does a ton of business which hopefully pays the bills, but I can't imagine this place is going to be around much longer unless they make some major changes fast or that bar covers their nut! I am totally bummed here because the area really needs a couple of decent restaraunts and this one used to be exactly that. That would be, used to be. Kinda like ownership and/or management are just burned out and don't care anymore. Kinda sucks to watch what used to be a fairly good place slip into the abyss. Still a nice looking place but get your act together guys, wake up, make some significant changes to your cook staff or your customers will start looking for something else. The upside is that there are other very good places in the area still. Villa Terrazzo, Joselitos and what used to be The Ramp are decent examples of good food, good atmosphere and good locations. Caruso's is a nice, local restaurant. They make good pizza and have a nice little bar area. Portions are nicely sized. The only reason for 3 stars is the salad dressing is kind of watered down and some dishes are short on seasoning or salt and pepper. Caruso's is one of the last traditional sit down restaurants in our area. The service there has always been good and the servers have always been friendly. read more
