Came here for happy hour and loved the food that we had! We had the shigoku oysters that were on special and I loved the light citrusy sauce they came with. Oyster dip was solid and I kept going back for more. Oyster stew was amazing and rivals that of pikes place chowder. Home style clams were alright. The creamy sauce it came with tasted a little too much of wine but the clams were plump and fresh. Service was great and the waiter was extremely knowledgable about the establishment. Stopped in the other day and really wanted some oysters. Ordered two dozen of various kinds. When they arrived at the table, one of the members of my group noticed that cocktail sauce was nowhere to be found. They asked for some, the bartender brought a tiny, almost thimble full, over for her. The bill arrives and there is a $1 charge for the cocktail sauce. We were floored. Spent over $100 on oysters alone and you charge us $1 for cocktail sauce? Really? It's not the dollar amount, it's the principal. What if more people had wanted cocktail sauce too? Is it $1 per order? Unreal. I've been going to Taylor for a long time, and have been okay with paying their higher markup for oysters because the quality is always so good. This experience however left a really bad taste in my mouth. With so many oyster options available in the city, I have to give serious consideration to spending any more of my money with Taylor. read more

We started with the oyster platter which was delicious. The geoduck was an interesting experience with the two cuts- neck and belly I think which has two different flavors. We ordered it with the oil and ikura topping. The uni which was caught fresh the day of was a show stopper. It was creamy and was the freshest uni I ever had. The baked oysters were my favorite oysters- I liked the addition of texture and cheese melted on top. Oh man... this place has amazing reviews which is what brought us here. Sadly, it did not live up to the hype. We came mainly for oysters. Ordered a dozen. We did not opt for the cocktail sauce (they charge you $1 for that... whaat?). Immediately upon watching the server put it down, I knew something was off. They were not as vibrant as fresh oysters normally are (they were darker, a little off looking and slimy looking) . Though it was a small disappointment, I figured it was maybe because of the type of oysters they were? After all this is a place known for oysters?? So with the way I eat oysters... I add a little lemon, and slurp it all up in one gulp. Immediately as the oyster touched my mouth, I knew something was wrong. It was fishy, and definitely did NOT TASTE FRESH. I had to send them back. I just couldn't eat more. I had already swallowed one and it was too much. Waitress told me the oysters were fishy because "that's just they type of oyster they are". Okay... I don't know if she was having a bad day or what, but throughout the whole meal she came off real unenthusiastic and negative. Any now that I'm looking through these reviews, I guess that's a theme here. They charge mandatory 18% (almost 19 because they round) for service. I mean, I get it but like the service here but truly bad. They even charged me that 18% for the bad oysters I sent back!! Anyways, needless to say I spent three hours in the bathroom that night, throwing up and more which I will not mention here, but you get the idea. I will never be back. Since Taylor's was so close to Key Arena, we decided to have HH here before the concert we were attending. The girl shucking oysters greeted us and pointed us in the direction of a table we could occupy right away. We sat down. Poured ourselves some water and waited for the waitress to drop off some menus. Our waitress stopped by after a few minutes and told us we still had time for HH so we immediately looked over the menu and got to ordering. We ordered the baguette with butter, grilled cheese sandwich with salad, half dozen raw oysters, prawn cocktail, smoked oyster dip, and mussels steamed in a red curry broth. The food came out in spurts, but there wasn't too much lag time in-between the dishes. I'm not a fan of raw oysters due to the texture, but for some reason the oysters we had made me a believer. Maybe it was the sauce it came with?? The mussels were divine! The red curry broth was so flavorful and the mussels were tender. The baguette was great to dip into the broth. The dip was smoky, but not too smoky. Paired well with the salty kettle chips. The prawns were huge and tender, but they could of been deveined a bit better. The ones we had were a bit dirty. The least favorite dish of the night was the grilled cheese. It was wayyyy too cheesy with nothing to cut the richness of it. Definitely glad we checked Taylor Shellfish out. When we were out in Seattle we were aware that this oyster bar and several other Taylor locations in Seattle were operated by a shellfish company that's been in the business for decades, but only after we returned to Ohio did I realize how recently this restaurant transition happened. Given how smoothly this first location adjacent to Seattle Center is run, it's hard to believe they've been doing it for only three years. The Taylor folks have the oyster-bar business nailed down, with beautiful preparation and presentation of their products, plus extremely well-informed staff (at least the server who waited on us). The Taylor oyster bar keeps it simple: With the exception of a couple of fish items, pretty much every protein is their local shellfish. Oysters are featured most prominently, not surprisingly, and they were terrific. We went with a "Shucker's Dozen" at $33, which gave us 4 different types. We lived in New Orleans for 11-12 years, where the oysters are plentiful, bigger, and a bit cheaper (pretty sure you can still get a dozen for around 15 bucks), but not nearly this delicious, nor this varied in style. (Although I think some smaller higher-end shellfish outfits have been revving up on the Gulf Coast in this century--we had some more-expensive Mobile Bay oysters in New Orleans that easily eclipsed the standard oyster fare there.) Steamed clams were great, too: The kitchen definitely knew what to do with them. Decor is nice, comfortable, and modern, if somewhat generic. Only reason I don't go to five stars is the pricing. We had some great oysters elsewhere during our stay in Seattle, some even slightly cheaper. You'd think Taylor might be able to bring the prices down slightly, given that they're cutting out the middleman on most of their products. read more

First things first, the Palomas here are incredible! My friends and I shared the geoduck with spicy mango sauce, scallop ceviche and an array of Virginica, Pacific, and fat bastard oysters. The service was lovely, the atmosphere is nice and the food was simply spectacular. Brought my cousins from Bay Area to get some good good oysters. This location is right next to the Key Arena and they Seattle Center area so if you're around and want some oysters, then this is the spot. While visiting Seattle, I wanted to try some fresh Pacific oysters so I decided to swing by this place for dinner. Came by and got a seat by the bar area. First, I ordered the House broil oysters which includes 4 oysters. The oysters were very tasty and I loved the herb butter that they put on them. Of course, 4 oysters can hardly satisfy my hunger so I decided to try the seafood soup. The seafood soup came with Manila clams, mussels, this rich, thick tomato broth and some garden vegetables. I thoroughly enjoyed the soup as well. My only complaint is that the service was a bit lacking. It seemed that they were extremely busy and undermanned. The waiters/waitresses were constantly running around. I took a while after I finished my oysters for any employee to ask me if I wanted anything else. Came here for the oyster happy hour. The happy menu was pretty small but I really just went for the oysters. Got a half dozen off the HH menu for $10.50 which is a pretty good deal. Super fresh.on the regular menu I got the geoduck sashimi which was super crispy fresh. My favorite was the pesto mussel steamers. The mussels were cooked perfectly, pretty much melted in my mouth with minimal chewing required. They were also really easy to get off the shell too which is always great. Came here with the impression of having an out-of-this-world experience, given the high ratings and raging reviews from other Yelpers. Granted, my friends thoroughly enjoyed their oysters from the Shucker's Dozen selection, but they said it wasn't all that worth the price. If we were rich and could just throw $33 around on oysters then I'm sure we'd have given a higher rating though haha! My chowder wasn't anything special; I've definitely had better chowder elsewhere. Of course Pike Place Chowder was better haha so I'd recommend skipping out on Taylor's chowder. I like my oysters the way I like my beers ... fresh, cold, and local ... just like Taylor Shellfish Oyster Bar serves 'em. Sure, the world is your oyster, but you've still got to shuck it, so, why not find a place like this that has them for $1.75 each during Happy Hour (Mon-Fri 4:00 - 6:00)? The rest of the food, drinks, and service didn't match the Oysters in quality, flavor, or freshness, but Taylor Shellfish Oyster Bar remains an a-ok 3-star choice for your favorite raw shellfish aphrodisiac. We sat on the patio and whenever our server remembered us we ordered more food starting with 18 Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell ($31.50 during HH) and a couple tame happy hour draft Chuckanut Pilsners ($5). Unfortunately, the oysters were quickly followed by a bowl of Smoked Oyster Dip that was sour and sad despite being paired with yummy Tim's Cascade Chips ($5 - 1 star). Geoduck is one of my wife's favorite foods. The only one on the Taylor Shellfish menu was Shiso Geoduck ($18 - 2 stars) and it turned out to be just so-so and limited. A more satisfying appetizer was a 4-piece Pacific Prawns Cocktail ($12 - 4 stars) with huge shrimp. A plate of Columbia River Sockeye Salmon Gravlax ($13 - 3 stars) with Creme Fraiche rounded out our meal. While the food is delicious - fresh seafood and bright flavors - the service staff doesn't seem to be "into it". I sat for quite awhile before before being acknowledged. No attempt to connect on a personal level and the bare minimum of politeness. Another table appeared to have some tourists visiting from out of the country...and I felt that their treatment was borderline rude - no one checked back on them and every request the table made seemed like it was such a big ordeal. This place was just the best! We came specifically for the geoduck, after seeing it on Bizarre Foods, but we left with a lot more! We came after work (east coast time, so right around 3) and the place was empty. We sat the bar and ordered a beer each, and the 2 person shellfish platter. We got to try 6 different oysters, shrimp, and of course geoduck! Our bartender/server was so fun and nice! He explained all about the oysters, how to eat them, what to expect, and some funny stories. Everyone else was really nice, asking about our travels and giving advice for places to visit in Seattle. We were also lucky enough to try some of their cute, sweet scallops that they were just able to harvest for the first time in awhile. This is THE place to go to for shellfish. Don't expect a heck of a lot more for food, especially if you don't like seafood. They do what they do best! And they really know their stuff. I love Taylor Shellfish, they truly have some great seafood but the service here was weird. The server and one of the guys working behind the bar were having it out with each other while we were being seated, a food runner brought us the wrong item and was upset with US about it, the food came out at random times, and when we were leaving and said thank you to the guys shucking behind the bar they just stared at us. Honestly such a weird experience and my friend and I felt totally unwelcome. Eating out is getting expensive everywhere and I would like to feel welcome when I go somewhere to spend my money :/ I won't be coming back. read more

Me and my girlfriend decided to go during happy hour because the oysters are a lot cheaper that way. They have a set happy hour menu with a certain oyster of the day. The oysters that day was the Pacifica, which were pretty good! Come to Taylor's during happy hour for the oysters at a discounted price & drinks, but don't come for a full-on meal. You probably won't leave content if you do! The oysters here are super fresh & delicious, but the rest of their menu aren't thing that will satisfy your belly! Lots of small bites but no "main course" offerings. The QA location is very convenient IMO and I would probably opt for this one than the one in Cap Hill. The service here can be hit or miss though. I've had a waitress that misheard our order TWICE. Very disappointed... and questioning why was my plate subpar and bad? Ordered the geoduck and got the end part, brown ends and tiny slivers ... not the part of the neck. Then at the end of my meal, I see a few tables over and they get their order of big pieces of the neck part of the geoduck.... hmm, why? And they had more amount than we did. They separate the shell for you and fill it with a special crab sauce crack the shell on the legs an knuckles. This is served cold but so tender and sweet crab meat. We actually have been up to the Taylor Shelllfish Farm on Chuckanut Drive a few times, so we were excited when we discovered they have restaurants. We started off with drinks and then just went crazy with the menu. The fresh, raw oysters are must - a very impressive selection indeed. The Shiso Geoduck had a texture similar to octopus. The sesame, shiso oil and lemon zest topping complimented it nicely. The Oysters Marco had a nice blend of kale and bacon (who knew?). The Oyster Stew had very small oyster, but the broth was rich..unforturnately it was on the cool side. Would have been nice to be able to warm up on the cold, rainy Seattle night. We finished off with the Steamer Mussels. This was the only dish that we didn't care for. Having Sugar Peas in the broth just didn't work. A few reason the rating wasn't 5 star: 1. It's sooo bright inside. it would be nice if the lights were a little dimmer for a bar and small plate setting. 2. My best friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time last month. We were looking through our list of places to check out recommended by our friends and this place was one of them. We came from the space needle to check it out at night and we were looking for a place to eat on yelp that was opened late that was walking distance from us! Luckily this location wasn't too far from the space needle. We booked it from the space needle so that we can make it with enough time before they close. Their hours don't match what yelp says. We made it with 15-20 minutes till closing (according to what yelp said), it was packed and they seated us. We were both surprised that they even seated us since they were supposably closing in 15-20 minutes, we even had to wait about 5-10 minutes for them to wait for one of the customers to leave. However, we found out depending on the season they have different hours and stay opened till there's no customers. On the door it says the hours are 11:30am-closed. That's totally different from other restaurant especially coming from LA. We are use to them rushing us or subtly trying to kick us out when it's closing or if we come 15-20 minutes till closing sometimes they say they aren't seating anymore so this was different experience for us. But when it's getting close to closing they will only serve fresh oysters and drinks. I would call before going to check if they are getting close to closing because they could close earlier or later than what yelp says. Our waitress Sara and the whole staff was awesome! They were just very nice, welcoming us when we walked in, checking up on us the whole time and not rushing us letting us take our time. Sara gave us recommendations for drinks which were super tasty. I'm not the biggest fan of raw food so she gave us great baked and cooked options! They were super busy from an event at the park they ran out of one of the items I wanted to try but everything we got was all delicious! Not only did she recommend drinks and food but she even took the time to talk to us about how our trip was going and told us about her first experience in Seattle. It was our last night in Seattle so we wanted to go out and check out the night life. She recommended some awesome bars on Capitol Hill for the real Seattle experience lol!
