Came here with my wife and son on Good Friday in the late-afternoon. The restaurant was moderately busy outside on the patio, but the inside was pretty sparse. We were promptly seated, but that was about the only thing that went right at the restaurant.
I took my 15 month year old son to the bathroom to change his diaper, except that there wasn't a freakin diaper changing station. If you open a restaurant in an outdoor shopping area that is super conducive to kids, then you should have baby changing stations in both gender bathrooms. A waitress mentioned there was one in the women's restroom, but I wasn't about to get MeToo'd. My wife went and changed him instead, but com'on this is Austin. There are more than a few gay men who have kids or dads that going to change their kids.
Came back to the table and we ordered; I ordered the carbonara, which is supposed to come with their focaccia bread (which my son was going to eat for his entrée), and added a side salad. My wife ordered a salad with chicken added. And we began our wait. It was around 1:45.
We waited. And waited some more. Looking at my watch. Looked at my phone. Getting pretty damn hungry. Meanwhile, my son is managing not to go ape shit. Probably because the poor kid was starving to death. I start looking around for our waitress, who seems to have disappeared. I see through the outdoor window into the kitchen and see one, maybe two cooks working the line. I am pretty hangry. I see tables all around us getting their pizzas and fritto misto. Nothing for us.
2:15 rolls around. VERY HANGRY NOW. Our waitress runs over and apologizes and says our food is coming out shortly. In a few minutes, she appears with my wife's salad, sans chicken, as well as my carbonara, which I inhale in under 5 minutes. Another waiter comes by and I ask him to find us our waiter; he asks if there is a problem.
Why, as a matter of fact, there is. My wife's salad is chicken-less, which given the time, is pretty interesting. My focaccia is missing as is my side salad. Seriously. Waiter scuttles asks if I still want my salad, given that I have already eaten my entre. I insist that I do and he quickly scuttles away.
Sitting around waiting. Waitress comes out and apologies for some sort of mix-up in the kitchen, i.e. my focaccia wasn't made. It's getting cooked now. Should be just a few more mins. She brings out my wife's chicken, which is essentially a fried chicken cutlet. It's really strange, but we don't care because we are so hungry. My side salad is still missing.
Side salad comes out a few minutes later, and no sign of focaccia. At this point my wife has given up half her salad to my son and he's been sitting for nearly an hour. If you have children, you understand; if you don't, just you wait. He's tearing at the butcher paper used as part of the tablecovering out of boredom and trying to eat it. Legitimately. I eat about four bites of my salad.
My focaccia finally comes out; I eat one piece and then have to take my son to play or he's going to lose his shit, and we don't want to be "those parents...;" while my wife is finishing up my salad, the hostess comes out with some lame excuse that doesn't align with what the waitress says. During the entire conversation, she doesn't even apologize. She never says "hey, I am really sorry for what happened...," but rather just makes up some random excuse about food coming out of the pass too quickly (ironic, because we had to wait 30+ mins), and that food was delivered out of order...some bullshit like that.
We receive our bill, which is discounted. We don't have to pay for my wife's salad, but looking at the receipt, you can see that the waitress didn't even enter the side salad or the focaccia into the computer. Maybe I am wrong, but the receipt is usually an indication of what is keyed into the computer, which is then transmitted to the back of the house to make.
All in all, I will never return to this piece of shithole of a restaurant. I hope you won't either. I hope that so few people go to this place that the restaurant goes out of business because it frankly doesn't deserve to be at the Domain. read more
