Rolled into town late and decided to give it a try. Glad we did! Our son had the kids chicken tenders and they were huge and freshly breaded. We arrived around 6pm, and were taken to 2 tables that were not ready for us to be sat at, and then brought back by the front door where there was a clean table. There were not enough menus for our party of 7, so we shared. It was about 20 minutes before a server greeted us and offered drinks. We were all ready to order at this point. We waited at least another 10 minutes before some of our drinks came out. Our server, Nancy, left us without drinks for some time. Our meals did not come out to our table until 7:20. The food was good. AFTER we were all finished eating, we had to wait another 20-25 minutes for our server to come by so we could ask for checks. We actually had to go to the bar and ask an employee if there was anyone else who could print our checks. we left at 8pm. Great place and highly recommend them if you're driving down 44. My wife and I were overwhelmed with the massive amount of food and at such affordable prices. My wife got the chicken sandwich, which looked like it came from foghorn leghorn and I had the tenderloin that was top notch. The breading on both was tasty and flavorful, and the meat was moist and tender. Each sandwich (with fries) was 8 & 9 bucks respectively. Pulling up on the place, it may not look like much, but they are awesome. Great beer garden in the back and friendly staff and regular patrons. I love the food at Tater Patch. I've been twice and had two different meals. My first was the BBQ pork sandwich and my second was the Rolla Surf and Turf. The restaurant smells of amazingly fresh bbq from the moment you walk in. The BBQ and the wings are great to eat. My husband had the BBQ nacho appetizer and loved it as well. I personally liked the Rolla Surf and Turf better. I love their catfish and the steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. I think the fries are delicious. We haven't had a bad meal here I do now have to schedule my visits here around when they do not have live music. The live music is always too loud for my taste. But we enjoy the food and restaurant enough to just schedule coming back when there isn't live music. I hope to go back soon for a Bingo night. read more

The service was slow, but nice. The restrooms really need cleaned. The food was 80% good. I got a Cobb salad, it was wonderful and fresh. My sister got a chicken fried something... it was not recognizable. It was chewy and the breading was soggy. She got mashed potatoes on the side and loved them! I was so excited to try this place out after my family member's graduation. He had made a big party reservation 3 days ago for 12 people at 6:30 and we even arrived 15 minutes early. Once we checked in, we were denied our reservation and they said we were replaced by a party of 25. Not only was it a waste of time, it was a sucky thing to happen to our family member who just graduated college. They said if we wanted to stay, it would be close to a 2 hour wait. That would mean we would be eating 2 hours after our originally reservation. We felt rushed out by them and while the lady at the front did apologize, it didn't feel genuine and it ruined our happy experience. I don't think they should cancel reservations, even if a bigger party wanted to eat there too. They also could have reached out prior to let us know that they would not be continuing with our reservation. Might as well just cancel doing reservations overall. read more

We ordered the Buffalo chicken baked potato and kids chicken fingers. The potato was smothered in way too much Buffalo sauce so it was tough to eat. I only ate maybe a quarter of it. The kids chicken fingers weren't fried long enough. They were mushy and doughy on the outside, like it was microwaved. Definitely hangover food. Greasy and filling. The staff was friendly but it took almost 10 minutes for anyone to come up to our table to get drinks. Most likely won't go back here. read more

I was in Rolla for training and it was a recommended place for lunch. I had a wrap (was trying to be healthy), and it was good, but nothing to write home about. I should have tried something unhealthy, because it looked really good from what I saw of other people. The service was a bit slow too. Ordered fried mushrooms, the coating (to me) was a flour and pepper dredge for a pork cutlet not mushrooms. Did not care for that. I ordered the favorite potato with shredded pork and there were BIG pieces of fat in the pork I was just very disappointed in the flavor of it all. There were dead flies and fly traps all over the windowsill, and flies we had to keep swatting away. The large table we sat at had one old food in the crack of the table that was pretty gross. This is a place that doesn't know if it's a bar you can take families or a bar for the locals to get loaded. The problem is, neither does the clientele. I would think if you show up before 8:00 you are probably in with the dinner crowd and any later you are in for the drinking crowd. We showed up just before that time and got to see the transition - a sight you don't need with kids in tow. The service was actually very attentive, they were very kind and helpful. Our food didn't come out together, so there were a couple that were nearly done while some folks didn't get served quickly. Orders were delivered 5 to 10 minutes apart. We order some appetizers. If they weren't all prepackaged, they certainly looked and tasted like that quality level, so the mushrooms and onion rings were decent and the potato skins were full of bacon flavor. Not impressed. Got here a little late for the "award winning" breakfast. I was going to get country fried steak and eggs, so I switched to country fried steak dinner. The meat was hot and tasted fine. Sides (mashed potatoes (instant) and slaw were meh. Not horrible but nothing to write home about. Pretty much "dive bar" ambiance. Old and dingy. Bathroom was clean, though. Extra star for that. I should have ordered burger and fries. That looked pretty good at the table next to ours. (Where the small child kept yelling DADDY! DADDY!) Who wouldn't visit at least once with such a cute name? Billed as "Home of the Big Tater," I was indeed served the biggest potato I've ever seen. I chose the Chicken Pot Pie style for only $7.99! and I couldn't even finish it. The Chicken Pot Pie topping was fantastic. Butter and sour cream actually arrives on the side but once I'd finished almost all the topping, the potato had so much flavor infused that I never felt the need to add either. We found the restaurant clean and a bar like atmosphere. The staff was very nice, but food was a tad slow arriving to the table. Nothing wrong with the wait staff or food because we never made it in. We got there around 12:45 for lunch and were told it would be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 1/2 hours. No problem, they were busy so we waited. Three of our group of 5 used to manage bars and restaurants so we understood that. We waited outside because it was packed inside. They were setting up for outdoor music and around 2 they set up a table and started charging a $5 cover. The guy running it kept complaining because they didn't set up earlier and at about 2:40 one of our party asked if we'd be charged a cover and he said yes. She told him that we had been waiting for two hours and weren't told anything about this. After all we were just there for the food. He was rude to her and said it wasn't his problem. As we walked off he said I don't care about her problem so she went back and let him know that was unacceptable. Ownership needs to do a better job of training management and staff on the proper procedure. We were never notified that we were required cover after dozens of people went in ahead of us weren't charged. We will never be back and I would recommend not supporting such a poorly run place. read more
