From the second you walk in, he greets you with a genuine smile that instantly makes you feel welcome. Kai is attentive, accommodating, patient, and always seems one step ahead of what guests need. You can tell he cares about making sure everyone has a great experience. To order food, there is a self-service menu system where you use your own smartphone by scanning a QR code at your table, adding the menu items you want, and submitting the order yourself. During our latest visit, I accidentally ordered the wrong item (100% my mistake). I was expecting to just deal with it, but Kai immediately stepped in and fixed everything without hesitation. It was a busy Friday night and we were able to walk in and get a table for 2. First time dining at Tasty Pot. The menu looked interesting and the decor had good ambiance. They brought us water as son as we sat down. The online menu was pretty easy to use. I made a mistake with my husband's order and they graciously redid his meal. Let me lead with the best part, which was the seating and service. The 3 gentleman waiting tables and delivering orders were on point with their hospitality and within what is in their control. The ambiance was great too and the setting was quite welcoming and home feeling. Now to get to the food. We were very disappointed with it on the whole outside of the white fish, clams, and octopus. We ordered a calamari appetizer which was fully overcooked, recooked, or frozen without being thawed appropriately. The batter was overwhelming with seasoning that almost tried to mask the deep chewiness of the squid itself. We then hoped for more when ordering the lobster and sea food pot (ordered a second lobster alone too). The hot pot came with some pre-cooked items and then a mix of uncooked items. The lobster was overcooked and chewy and the shrimp were overcooked, while the rest was all right. I was anticipating though with the name that the lobster and shrimp would have been the highlight of the dish, and they were not. They had varying new fillet hot soups, and it looked like the only difference was the type of soup they used (all the ingredients were the same). Opted to try the tomato one in mild w/ noodles. Didn't have to wait too long before the food started coming out! Unless you have dietary restrictions, I don't think you could go wrong with any of their choices. My vegetarian friends noted that there weren't many options for them (it looked like the Healthy Veggie Hot Soup was the only suitable option, but there lacked an option to add more protein - the consensus was that MalaTown had many more vegetarian options). Definitely enjoyed the Tomato Fillet Hot Soup! I did find two small bones in my fish, each about an inch long. The sauce was decent but no where near boiling point's sauce flavor. The meat didn't feel sliced and fresh as it broke up in the broth in tiny pieces, indicating that it was frozen again after being thawed or just not good quality. Couldn't get broth refill because since the broth didn't have much flavor, didn't want to reduce it even more.
