These donuts are only okay. I don't see why everyone goes crazy over these donuts. They used to get these all the time for Donut Days at my college. While these donuts are cute and funny, I think they pay too much attention to the decorations and not enough on the donut itself. Whenever I'd try these, the donut was always dry. Maybe it's because they're cake donuts and not yeast donuts. Or maybe it's because the glazing doesn't go around the whole donut it's just poured on top. Also, unless you're the one picking out the donuts, it almost feels like a jelly belly tasting challenge. You think you're going to get a chocolate cream filling and it turns out to be coffee. Sometimes it's not always a good surprise if you don't like certain flavors. Maybe they should include a menu with pictures on boxes of mixed donuts? read more

I love this place! I have picked up a party platter of their mini donuts to bring to events several times, and they are always a hit! I really enjoy the German chocolate cake flavor. I have to say that some of the donuts are a tad on the dry side (most are variations of old fashioned donuts) but the delicious frosting and toppings even it out. Those with comments about 'how bad the area is' have most likely never left the suburbs of CT. Parkville is a nice area of Hartford filled with families. There is a school and a church within one block of this location so I don't think people have much to be worried about at this location. I have driven by Tastease somewhere between 100 and 100,000 times in the past few years and I had never stopped. First, I assumed Tastease was some sort of pornographic bakery (they have one in Boston that totally blindsided me once). Then, when I learned they were a source of great donuts, I just never thought of it at a convenient time. But when a coworker brought some Tastease into the office for a treat, I was sold. Even so, it STILL took me about a month to drag my butt over to New Park Ave... what is with me!? Am I some sort of self-hating donut-eater? I know I've been trying to be healthy lately, but come on, a teeny tiny donut won't throw me off my diet/training plan. However, half-a-baker's-dozen might. Cause, um, that's what I ordered. Well, I ordered a dozen-turned-bakers, to split with companion, figuring they would last me a few days. Then the male-owner says, "have you tried my german chocolate? no? here, try one, each of you" and gave us each a donut. Yum. So then we ordered some more of those, an orange one, a few basic decorated ones, the oreo kind thats chocolate-on-chocolate-on-chocolate, some caramel, a jelly. And we got there at like 1:45 on a Saturday afternoon; hardly the best selection time, but we still managed to get a good variety in. So then I ate one in the car. We split 4 on the couch when we got home, over a glass a milk. Then he showered and I ate another, then I showered and he ate another. Then we went out, got home late night, each had one. Then we split the remaining for breakfast. Now we have none left. And I gotta go back. I think I might give out dozens of Tastease for Christmas this year. How's THAT for holiday spirit? At like $12 for three dozen, it could be a pretty thrifty move. I think it's delicious and brilliant. And it's the thought that counts. read more

I was very sad after leaving this place. Why you ask? Because the cutest and oldest little couple runs this teenie tiney store and they are adorable. I don't know if it will be the same once they are no longer running it. So service wise, they are incredible. They are very sweet and kind and will tell you their story once you come in. Since it was my first time, they heated up a little donut for me to sample and it was delicious. What also can't be beat is their prices! 7 dollars for sixteen individually decorated donuts with different flavors. Are they the best donuts I've ever had? Saw the good reviews so we decided to go. We drove there on Saturday morning, we got there at 8:30 (30 minutes after they open). As we got in we saw the doughnuts, they had about 100 doughnuts and we were the only costumers in the store. We asked to get 3 doughnuts and the women said "we don't have any doughnuts". It was weird and we thought she's joking, but then she actually didn't give us doughnuts. We weren't sure what's going on so we asked if she actuallly mean it because obviously they had doughnuts. She said "no, we don't have doughnuts we sold them" even though it was was in front of us. At this point I told her "can we not get these doughnuts here in front of us?" She said "No I'm going to give it to someone". I told her thank you and we left. In my opinion, a doughnut place should have doughnuts on a Saturday morning 30 minutes after opening, the workers should at least be a little nicer and say these are reserved for whatever reason (assuming that's why she said we dont have any) But this place didn't care or want to appreciate that a costumer came to buy their doughnut and not repeating "we don't have any doughnuts" when there's 100 doughnuts in front of us. read more

Will keep this simple...Hands down the best donut experience in the Hartford area. Best taste. Most inventive (so many varieties). A dozen for $5.65? They could easily move this place to West Hartford, double the price and still have a line out the door... I came at around 10:30am to Tastease. The family, who runs this place, was the wife, Susan, husband, Anthony, and son (didn't really talk to him) sitting outside on a sunny day. What a nice family! They just got back from vacation and re-opened this place after about a month away on vacation. This place has been opened for 8 years, and they seem to run a pretty good shop. I felt very lucky to come in at almost noon to find plenty of tasty, sweet rings that I call donuts on display. Susan, the co-owner, bragged about how they are now being promoted in Belgium and China! That's awesome! I told Susan how much they are getting great reviews from Yelp. Anthony, the co-owner, also bragged about how companies are giving them 5 stars. Now a days, I don't eat much sweet treats, unless they are Twix and Kit Kat bars, so I tried majority of donuts that sounded comforting to me. I bought a baker's dozen of the Strawberry Shortcake, Oreo Cookies and Cream, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate and a few others that had pleasing colors to my eye. This was all at $4.95 and if I bought a 1/2 of dozen it would have been around $2.95. As a complimentary treat, the owner let me sample one of their donuts. I wish I could tell you the name of the donut. All I could remember was advising me to heat this specific one for 6 seconds. And it tasted the way she said it would, like a pancake with maple syrup! How awesome, huh!? This isn't just heaven, because Heaven is just a lobby. This is the Pearly Gates. The Pearly Gates is like V.I.P. down here in earth. And THAT'S the comparison I make of this wonderful place! The co-owners and I had a great chat. What nice people! Honestly! Very warm and sweet..................like their donuts! A customer inquired about gluten-free donuts, and i'm sorry to say Yelpers, they will not be making that any time soon. The oil they use is high quality and expensive, which is why their donuts taste so good! Susan also told me that the Food Network called and interviewed them to do a possible show at their place. That right there shows high credibility and quality of their donuts. But let's not forget.............they also serve sandwiches!!! I haven't tried it yet, because I'm still hooked onto the sandwiches from down the street, but I will have to give them a try sometime. You can also call ahead for your order of donuts and sandwiches. The next thing i'd like to ask is if they could make me a themed cupcake, something for my little one to try for her next birthday. Our donuts look delightful and because of all the wonderful things said about the staff I will forgo a first impression. As the stress level was high by the woman who served us. Phones were ringing there was a small line of 2 people in front of us and it appeared they were a little overwhelmed which carried over slightly. But when we were up we greeted her with a smile and hoped she'd warm up to us. We got 3 doz delightful little treasures to take home with us and were excited with each description that came with the specialty mini's. Now all there is to do is get them home and hope no one steals the one I have in mind to eat first. Next time though I will call my order in ahead of time so I can just stop in and pick it up. Delicious little donuts! These are a great crowd pleaser. They look beautiful and come in lots of unique flavors, like cappuccino and key lime. If I ever have to bring pastry to a party or meeting, these are a go-to. My boyfriend also swears by their bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches, which I haven't tried yet but am looking forward to. Owner has always been very nice to me, don't know what the negative reviews are about. Maybe when you are rude to people, they're not always going to smile and be sweet to you? Just a thought. Oh the elusive Tastease donut... I've lived in the Hartford area for the past 13 years and have tried in vain to actually buy a donut from this shop. Every time it's closed; I was beginning to think that it was a front for illegal activities. Our schedules finally coincided and it was glorious. The donuts are beautifully decorated, inexpensive, and most importantly, delicious. They are more of a cake style donut, so if dense donuts aren't for you, this is not your place. They have had many opportunties to reach out to support the local community without looking for much in return. Take a stop into their store when you are hungry, anytime of day! This is a great little mom & pop (literally) diner/take out place. I bought a square of 36 mini-donuts. I did not specify flavors. You get your donuts in a heavy duty pizza box which perfectly fits thirty-six mini donuts. When you open the box it is like open a present with presents inside. All of them were beautiful and amazing. Presentation was spot on. As for taste, they were good cake style donuts. Some of the flavors were consistent through all of the donuts. I would not hesitate to stop here again to get donuts, if it were on my way. Call ahead, even if you have to leave a message, otherwise you run the chance of not getting any donuts. I drove by and found myself in front of Tastease too late for a sweet snack (not one donut left in the display case) but my disappointment was quickly replaced and fulfilled with a mouth-watering, savory pastrami reuben on rye! I called on a Tuesday and ordered three large boxes of mini donuts for pick up on Saturday at 11:30. They were for my sisters bridal shower on Sunday. I called at 11:25 to tell them I was on my way and the female owner told me that they were all sold out of donuts and that they had written that I was coming the following Saturday. She was very rude and said that there was no way she could remedy that even though they were still open until noon and should/ could have made my donuts. So much for customer service. I found this place when I was looking for a bakery to satisfy a craving for cupcakes- and I'm so glad I did! The owners are so welcoming and explain all the flavors. The donuts are delicious- I seem to give myself a stomachache since I can't choose just 1 (or 3) flavors to try. Great to bring a dozen or two for meetings, everyone loves them. I'm a huge fan of the apple with cream cheese and the heath bar crunch. A true bakers dozen, and coffee comes with a donut- what more could you want?
