Honestly the best doughnuts I've had, which made sense after I learned they're all made-to-order instead of sitting out! They're light and fluffy with just a little crisp on the outside, and absolutely 0 greasy taste/texture. Their blueberry glaze was especially outstanding, but there wasn't a single one in the six-pack that we didn't love. PLUS 2/3 of the flavors are always changing! And they have daily coffee flavors! The doughnut flavors are really unique too (think chocolate pretzel, maple bacon, etc.). Even better, everything they sell/use is sourced from CT. Slight points off for the atmosphere (it's very cute but could use some sound dampening), but let's be real - it's a place designed to pick up your doughnuts and go, not sit and linger, so I'm not dinging it down from the 5-star review it deserves. Good doughnuts, basic toppings, great owner Came here because we knew the owner from a local pizza spot that always looked after us when we would stop by. He decided to branch out and make a tiny donut shop, so we wanted to swing by and give him a try. The shop is small, designed more for your pick up and go crowd. The signage is a little small, so you will need to know where to go to find it. The selection of donuts is akin to specialty cookie shops. They keep a standard selection of doughnuts on demand but also rotate out a few types to keep things fresh. You order your doughnuts with the cashier, and then get to watch your doughnuts get dipped and packed right in front of you. We got a dozen of these little doughnuts. Took our pics then dug in. As a doughnut, they are good. They are a cake doughnut with a little vanilla in the batter to give it a mellow buttery floral flavor note. Not majorly noticeable, but just enough to make it better than just straight up cake. The best bite was the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries with a light whipped cream gives that flavor profile one would expect from a very solid strawberry shortcake. The rest were of varying states of okay for the toppings. The maple bacon was good, the local maple glaze was very maple forward and tasty. The bacon crumbles needed to be cooked more. They were a little too soft and chewy for that style of doughnut. The doughnuts with chocolate syrup needs a better chocolate syrup. Would probably replace with a chocolate drizzle instead. Would hold up better if not eaten immediately. Some of the glazes were not made in house, and were a bit too strong for some of the other toppings on them. They will need to figure out a way to tweak these glazes to not be overpowering. As a destination spot I would expect an elevated product, and this shop is not set up to be elevated just yet. It's set up to be a local morning doughnut place, which is valid but will need to fight to get people to see them. There's some promise to this business idea. They will need to commit to either a boutique tiny doughnut shop or a local pick up and on demand delivery spot. Either one could work, but they need to find their footing first. For those interested in trying this place, it's a good spot for a little sweet treat. Stick to the non-chocolate flavors, get enough to share, and enjoy! read more

What a great local small business!! If you are in the area you definitely need to stop by for a fun unique treat. Located in a newly renovated building the cafe is cute and inviting. These small freshly made doughnuts are fun and creative. With gluten-free, and made-to-order options the staff can really accommodate every palette. Great for families and the college crowd. While the toppings may not be gourmet in quality - they are not trying to be. I am very interested in seeing where this business goes. Recently tried out Dad's Doughs and was happy I did! For coffee, options are very basic/limited, but my iced coffee was very good. The half dozen donuts I picked up was $8.99, which for mini donuts this price is a little high in my opinion, but they were fresh and tasty with a variety of options to choose from, so I was happy with my purchase. The place is pretty small but cozy, the worker who grabbed my order was kind, and I only waited a minute or two. I would definitely go back in the future for a treat! read more

I really wanted to try Dad's Doughs after seeing so many people at UConn talking about it, but my experience was so-so. When I walked in, the owner was talking to the customers in front of me about some mutual friends and continued talking for another 7-8 minutes until finally taking their order. In contrast, he was pretty quick with me. Then, two girls also from UConn came in and he was super warm and friendly with them, asking if it was their first time and giving them the whole overview of how the menu works and how everything is made fresh to order. It made me feel kind of singled out as I wasn't really treated the same way as the people before me or after me. Stopped in to try the new place. They have gluten free options, 2 and like anywhere else they are not good tasting. Have not found a good gluten free donut anywhere. I will continue looking. The donuts are mini size. All cake style, brought back some great memories from my childhood. They have many toppings to chose from. They are fresh made you can watch him put the toppings on each donut. The man was very friendly and explained everything to us. We got a dozen to try many different ones. What makes each one different is the topping, as the donut is the same for all of them. It was a fun experience. The place is very clean. Plenty of parking, has outside eating available. There is a big window to watch them make your donuts. This would be great for a birthday party or baseball game type of food. It is worth the trip to at least try them. 5 stars for super friendly service by Dad and the young man making the donuts. Adorable place and great concept of different combinations of toppings. Since they are small, you can try a few different ones. Coffee was good too! The only thing is that I thought they were a bit pricey for the size especially in an area with lots of college students. A new business, so maybe they're still learning. They have a pretty wide selection of very tiny donuts made with one of those compact automatic machines. Therefore, they're standard cake donuts, maybe a little oilier than similar ones I've had elsewhere. Their thing is the variety available. However, they're pretty expensive. Half a dozen will run you almost $10. On top of that, I didn't notice until I got home that they had botched the order. I'll have to see some changes before I go back. read more

Was driving to UConn when I noticed this new sign in Mansfield Center. I decided to stop and try the new doughnut shop in town. Parking was very easy and the entrance is in the bottom floor of the building. I entered the front and needed to take stairs, there is parking higher up for easier access. There are fresh made mini cake doughnuts. There were many different toppings to try. The doughnuts are pricier, but they are fresh made and have specialty toppings, so compared to other designer doughnuts these are on par. There were other people in line in front of me, but I was greeted warmly when I entered. There is a window to watch the doughnuts being made. There are options for coffee and soda as well as the doughnuts. They have local Hosmer Mountain Soda. There are some tables to sit at and visit or eat inside. The service was good, the doughnuts took a few minutes to make. The drinks would come out rather quickly. Everyone working seemed in good spirits. They were mostly young people working when I went. I purchased "Dad's Dough it Yourself" so I could try some different flavors. I received a dozen doughnuts and 3 glazes, Chocolate, Regular, and Strawberry. I also received 4 different sprinkles. All were in individual sauce containers. I used a knife at home to decorate, if you are ordering this, just ask for a plastic knife to use. The doughnuts were very good and light, they were well cooked. The chocolate glaze was very rich and tasty. The regular glaze was very good. The pink glaze didn't have a strong strawberry flavor. But it was good with the sprinkles. I think next time I will order specific doughnuts, it was fun to decorate them myself this time though. I think these are great for little kids or sharing with people if you don't want huge doughnuts. The 4 stars is because I didn't love the flavor of the strawberry topping on its own. Stopped in for the first time with my family about 10:30 or so on Memorial Day just before the parade. As soon as we walked in, the owner (presumably), who appeared to be alone, was asking another customer if they had placed their order online and upon them saying they hadn't the owner said he was backed up with online orders and there would be at least a 15-20 minute wait while he fulfilled them. That customer left and I stepped up and he asked me the same, and I just confirmed "Online orders only then today?" And he replied, "yes.." and began going into detail about how he had seventeen orders in queue and had to get those done, etc. I told him that we weren't going to be able to wait, and headed out. Not even an apology as we were leaving. So, it's Memorial Day, you are on the parade route, it's an observed day off for most working adults and their families and you are flying solo. I don't pretend to understand the challenges of running a bakery business, but it was disappointing to walk in and not be able to grab a few donuts and some coffee. Then, as if I was interested, to have to hear about your orders in queue. As a guy who has worked in Customer Service the majority if my adult life, I can tell you that customers do not generally care why you can't serve them; they simply want the services you offer in a timely manner. And if for some reason you can't deliver immediate service, acknowledging the failure with a sincere apology is key, along with maybe having some kind of a consolation prize like a discount coupon or something to try and get folks to come back if you are this far behind. The failure here was the lack of help and preparation for in-person walk-in business traffic. We wanted to try a new place but because you couldn't serve us without making us wait for 20 minutes or potentially more to get your prior orders filled, we went to the same old same old DD for reliability and speed. We might have waited a few minutes but I was honestly just put off by the stress level and excuses. I had heard good things about this business' offerings and sadly cannot review the food. I would hope that if we ever decide to risk walk-in again rather than online ordering, which seems to be the preference here, we would encounter a business prepared to handle it. Decided to check out Dad's Doughs the morning after Thanksgiving on the way to go get our Christmas tree. Ordered an assorted dozen donuts and the owner came out and gave us some bonus donuts for checking them out. The donuts themselves: amazing. They were crispy little cake donuts with a moist center and delicious toppings. Did I get any pictures? No. They didn't make it out of the parking lot. The folks working there were all super helpful, and Lucas (the dad in the name) came out and chatted with us and showed off the great artwork. This place is worth a trip! read more
