An electronic technician by trade, John worked for the Bristol Company. He began to roast nuts and sold them at work to supplement the young family's income. In an effort to increase sales, he and Helen began making chocolates in their basement. In addition to chocolate nut clusters, they soon began to make caramels, toffee and creams. The chocolates became so popular that soon the Fascia's basement operation couldn't keep up with the supply and demand. By 1978, they opened their first retail store on Meriden Road. Two years later, John quit his job so he could make chocolate full time. John and & Helen were soon joined by their three young daughters Louise, Lynne and Laurie. In 1985, the business moved to an expanded storefront on Wolcott Street. As business continued to grow, the business would relocate to Lakewood Road in 1990, Thomaston Avenue in 2008, and finally to Chase River Road in 2013. The Fascia Family still runs the business, although John & Helen are now semi-retired. My family and I recently visited Fascia's Chocolates to attend a special "Chocolate Experience". We were escorted into a small room with other attending families. There we were greeted by Company President Carmen Romeo, who happens to be married to Louise Fascia. He quickly informed us, "I may be the President, but my wife and her sister are the real bosses." He gave us all a presentation where he discussed the history of the company as well as chocolate production in general. He gave all attendees samples of the three main types of chocolate (Dark, Milk & White) and discussed the differences. Afterwards, all children were able to make their own chocolate bar with their choice of toppings. My sons both picked rice cereal and Fruity Pebbles. We also got to take a look at what happens in the production area. After the experience, we all went into the retail shop and explored all of the delicious chocolates that Fascia's produces. While I distracted my sons, my wife discreetly purchased some chocolate coins for St. Patrick's Day and chocolate bunnies for Easter. We all had a great experience at Fascia's Chocolates and hope to enjoy their delicious chocolate again!

The Munson's stores are so strategically placed across the state, that no matter where you're coming from or where you live there's a Munson's store close to your proximity. The Glastonbury store is located in Somerset Square. I walked inside, the floors are glistening, the glass is glistening. All of the chocolates are looking scrumptious and delicious. The truffles are separated by milk and dark. There are so many filling options. There's a variety of bark. They will do a chocolate covered banana, which is so tasty. Today I got three boxes and filled them with an assortment of truffles. The girl packaging them for me said "you got it" after each time I made a selection. I am looking forward to giving them to the three recipients tomorrow. Since summer is fast approaching and these are prone to melting, please do not leave them exposed to heat. My experience at Munson's of Glastonbury was nothing short of completely satisfying, from the service to the super tasty chocolate.

He decided to branch out and make a tiny donut shop, so we wanted to swing by and give him a try. The shop is small, designed more for your pick up and go crowd. The signage is a little small, so you will need to know where to go to find it. The selection of donuts is akin to specialty cookie shops. They keep a standard selection of doughnuts on demand but also rotate out a few types to keep things fresh. You order your doughnuts with the cashier, and then get to watch your doughnuts get dipped and packed right in front of you. We got a dozen of these little doughnuts. Took our pics then dug in. As a doughnut, they are good. They are a cake doughnut with a little vanilla in the batter to give it a mellow buttery floral flavor note. Not majorly noticeable, but just enough to make it better than just straight up cake. The best bite was the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries with a light whipped cream gives that flavor profile one would expect from a very solid strawberry shortcake. The rest were of varying states of okay for the toppings. The maple bacon was good, the local maple glaze was very maple forward and tasty. The bacon crumbles needed to be cooked more. They were a little too soft and chewy for that style of doughnut. The doughnuts with chocolate syrup needs a better chocolate syrup. Would probably replace with a chocolate drizzle instead. Would hold up better if not eaten immediately. Some of the glazes were not made in house, and were a bit too strong for some of the other toppings on them. They will need to figure out a way to tweak these glazes to not be overpowering. As a destination spot I would expect an elevated product, and this shop is not set up to be elevated just yet. It's set up to be a local morning doughnut place, which is valid but will need to fight to get people to see them. There's some promise to this business idea. They will need to commit to either a boutique tiny doughnut shop or a local pick up and on demand delivery spot. Either one could work, but they need to find their footing first. For those interested in trying this place, it's a good spot for a little sweet treat. Stick to the non-chocolate flavors, get enough to share, and enjoy!
