I was passing through Brooklyn yesterday when I stumbled across Sadie's Sweet Shop with just a little bit of time to kill. This small shop had a ton of candy that seems to be made by then (I got some rock candy for my wife) and of course the main reason I stopped, ice cream. I ended up getting a two scoop cone with some sort of almond joy scoop as well as the flavour I look for everywhere, Cookie Monster. Both flavours of ice cream were solid and I have zero complaints. This might be the first time I had almond joy ice cream and I thought it was pretty good. Overall, this was a small review for a small ice cream shop. Sadie's Sweet Shop had small town vibes and served simple and tasty ice cream. Can't really ask for much else can you?

The area is very cool. I parked roadside, but the entrance is around that side of the building and there was parking closer to the entrance. Out back, there is a great view of open land, grass and trees. There are a few chairs and benches and it's a peaceful spot to eat your food and let young kids run around. I bought an ice cream flight, two cookies, Silver Queen corn and heirloom tomatoes. I'm primarily reviewing the ice cream side of the business, but I'm factoring the other things in as well. Ice cream is always tasty, but I'd say the ice cream was about average for CT ice cream places making their own ice cream. I ordered a flight of Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Blueberry Cheesecake and Cow Palace. The flight came in a cup, rather than some sort of flat container that would keep the flavors separate. I feel like I had a good chance to try the Chocolate Peanut Butter (which reminded me of a Fudgesicle) and the Mint CC (which was kind of standard). The flavors below the top two, kind of blended into each other by the time I got to them. I picked up some cheesecake flavor and berry flavor and chocolate chips. All good. A highlight was the two cookies (a chocolate chip and a peanut butter chip). The kind person who helped me with my ice cream said she made the cookies that morning. My wife ate most of the cookies, but I tried both and they were fresh and delicious. I used a tomato for a BLT. It was good. The Silver queen corn was also good. Red Barn had a reasonably good selection of in season produce, baked goods such as pies, butter, milk, jarred goods. A good place to shop for stuff like that. Four Stars

We first went through the corn maze, which was really fun, even without kids. Then we went on the tractor hay ride. It's absolutely beautiful property and it was very interesting to hear about their farming practices. We had lunch which was delicious! Seriously get the Thanksgiving Sundae (there's no ice cream in that haha) - or whatever it's called - because it was FABULOUS and they run out fast. I had the Thanksgiving sandwich and it was almost as good as my husband's sundae. Over all a very pleasant afternoon and we'll be back to do it again next year.

On the right side of the building is a country store selling pre-packaged beef, pork, dairy, groceries, and clothing. We did see a pretty good sale on $10 sweatpants! But on this rainy day we stopped for ice cream and picked up two cones for under $10. My wife went with Cricket Crunch (Vanilla ice cream with mint cookies and chocolate chips) and I went with Ayrshire Chip (Strawberry ice cream with chocolate chips). We both thought the ice cream was extraordinary, with a creamy texture, excellent flavors, and yummy chocolate chips. There isn't any seating inside, save for a bench, but there is plenty outside under a tent. Today was raining, so the tent seating was drenched, and we had our cones in the car. The rainy weather and muddy grounds also discouraged us from walking over to the barns to see the animals, which surely are a big hit with visiting children. So, if you' and your loved ones are ice cream nerds like we are, head on over to Connecticut's Quiet Corner and enjoy a sweet experience.

The picnic tables are bussed by guests and there is a covered trash bin nearby for that purpose. I was advised to bring wet wipes and that was a pro-tip. The kids and the adults needed to use those. The napkins at the order counter, although absorbant, just didn't touch the post ice cream stickiness.
