Over the years, the store has evolved from a tiny storefront on Main Street over 40 years ago to its current modern and well laid out location right off Rt 66/6. . It has an excellent children's gift area as well for unique gifts for a newborn.. There's a large clothing section as well as an excellent greeting card offering but it's strength lies in the unique items the store carries for unique gift items . I've never walked out of the store empty handed! If you need a unique gift option for new baby, engagement, wedding or birthdays, the Hoot is well worth the trip. Every holiday season I look forward to the annual gift shop daytrip I take with a friend. It's one of the better gift shops I've been to over the year ( and I've been coming here for over 40!)

The shirts and sweaters had only a few designs (may be only 5) to choose from and the material they were made of did not seem to be of good quality. The magnets were overpriced at $9.99. The items were not organized well. Some shelves were empty. The store was not lit well and looked like it's not being maintained, giving a vibe that they're struggling. Yeah, yeah, some would say that's not part of Scandinavia, but I think "close enough" (and some do consider it so). But I also know a Swede and thought I'd pick up a little something for Christmas. The shop is in the first floor of a house, and it's adorable. There is such a variety of things offered, I can't even begin to list them all. And there was food--in particular this awesome-looking bread with almonds. Sadly, we had way too much left over from Thanksgiving, but we will be back for that bread! The owner is very kind, and she remembers seeing my husband each year when he visits for Christmas baked goods. There is really something for everyone here. It's packed full of books and bookish merch, but so well set, there is plenty of room to explore. There are books in every nook and cranny, sorted by genre, with bookseller recommendations and plenty of signed copies. The booksellers are very knowledgeable and helpful too. If you are looking for a gift for an avid reader, they will definitely be able to help you find the perfect present. This is going to be a permanent stop for me every time I head through Connecticut.
