We've been to the Taste on Main several times. Each time we go it continues to get better and better. Last night was no exception. Our waiter, Evan was amazing. His detail in service was first class. The food was delicious. The menu has so many great options. It was hard to decide. My only disappointment is that its loud inside. The patio is great too but to hot for an early summer dinner. Excellent food and service. The inside was a little stuffy for my liking, but the outside more than made up for it. The food and cocktails were absolutely FANTASTIC! I ended up getting the 8 oz filet mignon with potatoes au gratin, while my mom ordered the short rib with green beans. We had sourdough bread with smoked salmon dip and a half dozen oysters as our starter, and we both really enjoyed the Violet Beauregard cocktail. The weather is one more reason to keep going back here since the weather has cooled off. Sitting on their outdoor patio is so serene and cozy. They also have outdoor fans. And the food is always good. I am a huge fan of their cheese burger and Brussels sprouts. So on this day I got both. Whoever is cooking in their kitchen, they continue to put out flavorful dishes. And the portion sizes lend themselves to leftovers. These leftovers were demolished by the kiddos as they loved the Brussel sprouts! read more

Stopped by for lunch and was out of town. It's in a nice area, nice exterior and interior. It was pricey but decent food and service

Nice atmosphere, good patio with misters to keep you cool (though almost blew me out of my chair...but beat sitting in the heat). Stopped in for happy hour which featured $7 margaritas which we enjoyed. Also had braised beef queso on the happy hour menu. The cheese was very pasty, and left us feeling bloated and a little upset in the stomach. Chips were great, but that cheese put a damper on the experience. Went for brunch on Sunday. Daughter had shrimp/grits - $18 and she got 3 shrimp. Guess that is "upscale" dining. Not the first time I've been disappointed here. Was really excited about this restaurant given that they are owned by same people as Hays City Story, and that place is great. I came back as the first time here with a friend on the treehouse deck was delightful. Today my hubby and I sat inside which was perfect temperature and came with additional checks by the owners? House managers? The only downside to sitting inside was being seated directly next to a boisterous table with a loud talker whose fav word was *ucking. I had the chicken caprese sandwich subbing brussels for fries. Do get the brussels as they are so tasty. My husband enjoyed the smashburger which was "very good". We came here for late lunch and it was not busy, snagged a Princess parking spot in front of the restaurant and was seated right away! Jeff was an attentive & friendly server - he anticipated our needs. He was always one step ahead. Since this was late lunch we just had a few small bites - all of them tasty, Brussels sprouts, sourdough bread with butters, tuna tostaditas and pork belly tostadas! Good lunch spot! If you're traveling in the I-35 corridor and have munchies and wanting more of sit down meal (not that there's anything wrong with the usual fast food gauntlet and/or Buc-ee) then make your way to old town Buda. This restaurant is quaint with a modern vibe-music playing but not too loud, great full bar with many options, and they have an outside patio. You're immediately warmly greeted, seated and the service was efficient and friendly. The menu was varied-they have raw oysters on the half shell but different types of oysters other than from the gulf-that was a bonus for sure. Lobster bisque & lobster rolls were delicious. I recommend this great little gem-I want and will come back as soon as I can. read more

My husband and I came here last Saturday (5/13) initially just for drinks but those were so good we decided to spring for food (even though the prices were a bit off putting for us we figured it was a special occasion so why not). The food here was delicious, the drinks were on point, we sat at the bar so as not to need a reservation and the bartenders were awesome! We had the short ribs, pork belly tostadas and lobster bisque. I know we asked for the brussel sprouts and it just dawned on me as I'm writing this that we never got them which makes me sad because I know we wont be able to go back for some time since the food prices are a bit high (that's not to say the food quality doesn't reflect the high prices though). Also shout out to the waitress who passed by and advised we should use the lime on our tostadas, it made them infinitely more deliscous! My one star deduction is only for a couple "minor" things... one, I wanted to love the lobster bisque but it was a tab bit sour, maybe, like sour cream. I also wish you got more food like a bit more short ribs or two sides instead of just mashed potatoes (even though those paired exquisitely with said short ribs) and more than two tostadas with the pork belly tostada app, especially for the price you are paying for food. Or at least include the $4 bread, that we wanted to try but didn't want to pay extra for, when someone is purchasing an entrée. All and all we would try it again on another special occasion (because of the price point of course) and we would recommend to others! read more

Ambiance - 4 stars. We have eaten inside and on the very nice patio. Service - 5 stars, every time Food - 4 stars. Dinner, Lunch and Brunch menus are very inviting. Good options and the food is good. Not the best in the Austin area but good. I have really liked everything I have tried except the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich. Actually, 3 out of 4 of us had it last week and none of us would order it again. It sounds delicious by menu description but it didn't taste as expected. It was not spicy and it had a BBQ sauce flavor to it and it wasn't good. That aside, I have enjoyed many other items here. Parking can be an issue. It's street parking and so many places have opened up in this Main Street area that it can be difficult to find a spot. This a very welcome and needed upscale restaurant in Buda. read more

Well, we made it. After crushing delays to get Taste on Main open, we made it for dinner. My expectations may have been a little unrealistic. I describe the vibe as: confused. Four of us dropped over $200 for dinner while additional guests sauntered in wearing flip flops, athletic shorts, and a most outstanding Hawaiian shirt. For a cruise, this shirt would have been amazing. However, this is a relatively expensive restaurant. Or, is it? The food was satisfying. Two steaks were good, one over salted though. The brussel sprouts were really good. The service was alright. Had some drinks go dry for a bit. The staff was friendly. I feel like it took a little longer than expected from order to table delivery. One of the oddest items however, is the art somehow curated by Hannibal Lector or Buffalo Bill in the men's restroom. I've seen some things in my days, but this caught me off guard. Everything I've heard about the owners is that they are outstanding people. We REALLY enjoyed this. We were here a couple of weeks ago for after dinner drinks to visit a member of the staff (ask for Luke, he's awesome). Came back to sit on the patio for dinner tonight after it was a long wait at Main St. Pizzeria. Not disappointed. Started with the tuna tostadas - lots of flavor and a great way to start. This place has everything going for it. My mother and I dined here last minute on a Saturday evening and were able to get seated at the bar right away. Our bar tender Eddie was kind, attentive, and gave other great local recommendations to us. The moscato and Malbec wines were lovely paired with our ragu and blackened redfish. Not pictured is the dessert we got, toasted pound cake, was sweet without being too sweet. The French onion soup and Caesar were great starters, not too filling but enough to hold you over while waiting for food. The staff were all lovely, the food was prepared well and came out timely, we weren't rushed when I took a while to finish my wine. This little restaurant in Buda is the Bomb!!! I went to visit a friend and we decided to get a bite, it was around 2:30 PM, kind of off time. The place is cute and traditional. We were seated right away, the place was empty when we got there but filled up as we sat there savoring our food and chatting. Savana was amazing, probably one of the best servers I have ever had, and a wonderful personality to boot. The food was wow wow wow, incroyable!!! For appetizers, we had the Brussels sprouts and guacamole which were delicious, my friend had the shrimp with grits and I had a salad with fried chicken...OMG, we were both like wow. Finally, desert was heavenly, I had a homemade chocolate ice cream with cake bits & melted marshmallow's, so unique and so good I nearly ate the plate. The service was great. There was an issue with our order coming out, and one person missing their entrée. The manager, who was very involved in helping even grab dirty plates, saw the issue and immediately went to the kitchen. He didn't have to even ask us what was wrong. A couple of minutes later he showed up with the entrée, and ensured it was the correct temperature. The cocktails very good, and the bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, and made sure to check on our drinks and water several times. The pasta bolognese, with pappardelle was very good. The pasta was cooked just right, and the sauce was delicious. The chicken friend rib eye was great, especially with the beef fat gravy. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated. Really stellar ambiance. Love that they redid the interior but honored the structure of the space to keep that old feel alive. It was super crowded and it was clear reservations were required but we were dropping in for after dinner cocktails from a different location so jumping on the bar was not too terrible. They had a raw seafood bar with lots of oyster options and some jumbo crab legs. Look like they had a nice outdoor patio space but it was a little too chilly for us to be out there. Taste on Main is now part of our family story. We were in town from California for our daughter and son-in-law's baby shower, and they took us to Taste on Main--their favorite local spot in Buda, Texas. After one dinner, we completely understood why they love it so much. The food is fantastic (don't miss the mac 'n cheese, clams, or Brussels sprouts), the steaks were perfectly cooked, and the desserts--just wow. But what really made the place unforgettable was the staff. Molly was our server the first night, and she's an absolute gem--warm, funny, and she knows the menu like the back of her hand. Her recommendations were spot-on, and we felt so cared for from start to finish. We loved it so much that my wife and I returned the next night--just the two of us--and while Marisa was our official server, Molly spotted us and was so genuinely happy to see us again that the two of them tag-teamed the table, making us feel doubly welcomed and truly special. On the third day, we returned yet again--this time for brunch. Marisa greeted us with the same warmth, and the manager, Emily, came over to introduce herself after hearing about our three-day streak. Her kindness and the way she made us feel like part of the Taste on Main family meant the world to us. We don't give glowing reviews lightly, but this place truly deserves it. We live in the area and appreciate a day night but this did NOT deliver! The past few times I have let the service slip but I really can not continue to let this go unnoticed. I worked as a bartender and in the service industry for many years and now that I'm not it's hard to watch the bare minimum effort not being executed. People sit at your bar top you greet and offer water, not carry on a conversation with the manager. With that said I always walk away feeling like I didn't get served great service bc they don't think I can afford to be there. Remember when Buda was just Buda! Recently gave a "trendy" restaurant a try in area. Very friendly service by the staff, and neat decor. Tables are tight if just for two. Food was better than expected. Pan seared chicken was great. Steak needed an open flame and would have been allot better. Oysters where fresh, not fully shucked so heads up! Was able to get in on our friends anniversary/ valentines reservation. The owners Travis and Tamara have another winner on their hands. They also run the awesome Hays City Store in Driftwood. Taste is exceptional. A little more upscale but well worth the prices and exceptional service. My wife had the Filet I tried the Budabaise which is a great Texas version of West coast Chippino ( which is my all time favorite dish). It did not disappoint. Taste on Main was a great intro back to having date nights with my wife . From the hostess who took our reservation to the wait staff- everyone was lovely and friendly. The ambiance is laid back, relaxed and the weather made things even better. I really wanted to like their drinks but I think someone had a heavy hand on some of the components of the drinks which made them not as enjoyable. My wife left half of her drink which was a little disappointing. Food was good but the presentation did not match the energy of the restaurant and price. Ceviche was dry and was not seasoned. Was later told I could have asked for limes and more of the sauce which we were sparingly given on the dish. The chicken fried steak was ok. The mashed potatoes were great! The bread the lobster roll came in was so yummy! Lobster was well cooked and seasoned. Sadly the fries that come with the lobster roll looked like something out of the bottom of the fry basket at the end of the night at Jack in the box. Again, missed opportunity to make the main dish shine even more. Honestly I think we were just happy to be out and we really wanted to love this place. I really enjoyed the people and the space but the food was ok. Took a picture of our beautiful drinks. Didn't do that for the food. Wish I had.
